A new podcast bug in iTunes 6

After completely removing iTunes 5.0.1, QuickTime, and iPod updater I installed the new iTunes 6 and QuickTime 7.0.3 package. Everything seems to work as before: My library is intact, I can rip CDs, play songs, update my iPod nano And Outlook sync is still not available if I'm not an administrator
However, there is a new problem downloading podcasts to the iPod. I have the "update: only unplayed episodes" option set, which worked under 5.0.1. But now, iTunes insists on downloading all podcast episodes, whether played or not, unless I clear the check box for each episode.
Not a severe problem but it seems like a strange thing to break.

About six months ago my library exceeded the capacity of my 40GB iPod, so I started using the "Only sync checked songs" option in my iPod syncing setup.
I'm also a big podcast junkie. I've got my podcast settings set so that only unplayed episodes get synced over to my iPod.
Up until iTunes 6.0 (yes, I ran 5.0 and 5.1), the played/unplayed status seemed to override the "Only sync checked songs" option. I only had to worry about marking the podcasts I didn't want with "Mark as played" from the right click menu.
Imagine my surprise when, this morning, I slid my iPod into the dock and expected it to auto-sync as before. Sadly, I got the dreaded message that my iPod had exceeded the size of my library. I had only added the two free downloads, otherwise my library was exactly the same from 5.1 to 6.0.
The only solution I found was to uncheck the podcasts I had already listened to, even tho they had already been marked as played. After unchecking, my iPod once again resumed normal auto-sync behavior.
Since I made only minimal library changes from 5.1 to 6.0, this must be a change of behavior on the part of iTunes. For the worse, IMO.

• Can't see any new podcasts/apps in iTunes 11.2.1

I'm running iTunes on an iMac, OS X 10.7.5. For several weeks, I have been unable to see or subscribe to any new podcasts in the itunes store, period. Previously I could see a new podcast, but could not see its individual episodes. I can still see podcasts I have already subscribed to and am able to download episodes. I can also see music, music, and iTunes U contend, but apparently not all TV shows. Anyone else having this problem and know a solution?
Have not seen this particular problem posted yet.

Ok, I just updated to Mavericks 10.9.3, in hopes that this would do something, but I'm still having the same problem. Has anyone else run into this? Really frustrated!!

• Why can't I see new podcast episodes in iTunes?

I only subscribe to a couple of podcasts but have several where I pick-and-choose from new episodes to download and then listen to on my iPod.
Under past versions of iTunes I would simply right-click on a podcast in my iTunes Podcasts folder, select "Show all episodes" or something similar, and the latest episodes would appear at the top and I could pick and choose which ones to download. However, under the new version, I don't see that option anymore. All my podcasts seemed to have stopped at approximately September 24, 2013. I can hit "show old episodes" and it reveals ones older than that but I can't see the ones added since. Deleting all podcasts and then downloading a new episode from the store doesn't help either.
What am I missing? I don't want to subscribe to the podcasts and download episodes that don't interest me. The only workaround I have found is to just go to the iTunes store, search for the podcast, and then download new episodes from there but that seems unnecessarily cumbersome when in the past I could just use a couple mouseclicks or less to see what was new. I feel like I must be missing something obvious...

Carolyn's response is of no help.
Do I understand correctly that the feature where you could see the available podcasts in your podcast list is now gone? Thge only way to see a podcast you are not subscribed to is to go to the iTunes store? That s**ks! The iTunes store is slow; it displays images I don't want to see, and it is tedious. Can someone recommend a good Android phone and tablet...

• The new Podcast storefront in iTunes... i don't like it

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but the podcasts storefront for iTunes have change. There is no more animation section, there is no more staff pick or newest section. There are only highlights and featured podcast.
I'm pretty deceived by this. This will kill the smaller podcasts. Right now, almost 75% of the featured stuff out there comes from the big networks and corporates.
hmmm.... I don't like this...

• Weird new graphical bug in ITunes...

Check this out...
Click here for a more close up view. As you can see, the music listing part of ITunes bleeds over the top menus. Weird.
This bug is occurring regardless of whether the window is maximized or not. And yes, this bug persists after a restart.
Not much more to say - how do I fix this? =p

Hi, James.
The first thing that comes to mind is that you have installed a plug-in that is causing this unusual behavior.
If that's the case, have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base and let us know if it solves your problem.

• New podcast subscription in iTunes store.

the podcast that I submitted to the iTunes store got approved a couple of days ago and just started being displayed in it today. The information in the website for iTunes to pull in the image is correct and was in there when I submitted the podcast. When I submitted the podcast it pulled in the image right away, however the podcast image is not being pulled in when I view it in the store. I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it might take iTunes to pull in the image. the url information from from iTunes is http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/midwestern-baptist-college/id414279294

The image is correctly referenced in your feed, but it always takes a few days before it appears - and even longer before the image in the Search results appears (which is smaller but drawn from the same tag in the feed). Recently a lot of people have been complaining that their images hadn't appeared after several weeks, so it rather looks as if there's been some sort of problem. One of them did post that his had turned up, so maybe things are improving - but you may still find it takes some time. I'm afraid there's nothing you can do except wait.

• IOS 5 has introduced new Podcast bug, resuming playback

I use the standard Apple earphones to listen to podcasts, and I almost always trigger playback by pressing the button on the earphones which resumes playback of whatever you were last playing, for me normally the last podcast.
This used to work fine until the iOS 5 upgrade, and now when i click that button on the earphones, the podcast starts to play but it goes garbled, skips around a bit, plays ormally intermittently for a few seconds then garbles again. This goes on. Even if you pause and resume again. I have to terminate the Music app and start it again to get it working normally again.
Anyone else experiencing this?

OK - My wife has an iPhone 4 (NOT S) but and has iOS 5.01 installed, but the lyrics DO change on her phone - we just tried. She however is still on iTunes 10.5.0 not 10.5.1 and she does not have iTunes Match.
So since someone on another forum indicates that this is happening on their iPhone 4, it must be a problem with iTunes 10.5.1 or else something to do with iTunes Match on the computer (not that I only have iTunes Match on my comuter - I do NOT have it on my iPhone 4S - I am hard syncing), or the combination.
So if are you using iTuns 10.5.1 and / or iTunes Match on you computer, can you test this? BTW - I'm on Windows 7.

• New podcast updating bug?

I have a new problem.
Once I listen to all the shows of a podcast on my iPhone, no new ones automatically sync.
I go to Devices>iPhone and then to the Podcasts tab, and under the Podcast list, the podcast I had been syncing is UNCHECKED! I can check that box again and hit Apply to make new shows move onto my iPhone.
I'm saying that the new version of iTunes has a bug where once you listen to all the shows of a podcast, it automatically de-selects future syncing.
Is anyone else having this problem?

RevMichael wrote:
Actually, my problem is that the new podcasts won't sync to my IPOD! Any ideas on that. They show on my list on I-Tunes, but when I sync music the podcasts don't sync in.
That's because Podcasts are not music (as far as iTunes is concerned). To Sync Podcasts, you need to check the appropriate fields on the Podcast pane, which you can find when you connect your iPod to iTunes.
Once connected, click on the device and then look for the Podcasts pane/tab.

• I purchased a new computer and transferred itunes, but can't get the podcasts I downloaded after the transfer to sync to my nano

I purchased a new computer and transferred itunes to it but now can't get podcasts downloaded after the transfer to sync with device.

So you have these podcasts downloaded and stored in your iTunes library is that correct? However, they will not sync with the device? Are these video or audio podcasts?
How is your Nano currently configured to sync podcasts? You can check this by viewing the iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes. To view this tab, plug your iPod in and select it from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes to bring yourself to the Summary tab that now shows to the right. Look for the Podcasts tab along the top and select it. Here you can configure how and what Podcasts are synced.
If you do happen to make any changes from under this tab, be sure to hit the Apply button to sync the updated changes to the Nano.

• Is there a way to change the order in which iTunes searches for new podcasts?

When I tell iTunes to update podcasts, it searches for them in the order that I have subscribed to them. However, most of my favorite podcasts I've started listening to only very recently, so on a day with a large number of new podcasts I have to wait for a few minutes before iTunes even detects and places them on the "downloading" queue. The sheer number of podcasts I am subscribed to makes unsubscribing from all and then resubscribing in a more optimal order thoroughly unpleasant. Is there a way I can reorder the priority queue for checking for new podcasts, so that I can click 'refresh,' grab my favorites right away, put them on my iPod Shuffle, and the leave the rest to download?

I'm not sure, but I think the change was using the font "Segoe UI" instead of "Tahoma", and maybe, Lucida Grande.
I haven't tried it, but I assume you can edit the fonts, which are specified in (basically) a text file (at least, for iTunes 10).
Make a backup of the file before you edit anything (or you can repair/reinstall if you mess it up). See the following post for some more info:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12226047#12226047
You'll want to edit the "font", not the "xp-font". I can't tell you what fonts will work.

• How can I set iTunes to check for new podcasts at a specific time of day?

Hi guys,
Anybody know a work around for this? I thought it was just a matter of clicking the refresh button at the time I want iTunes to look for new podcasts, but it doesn't seem to be the case...
I want iTunes to look for new podcasts at 2 am every day. So, at 2 am, I clicked the refresh button in the Podcasts section in iTunes. It would then say, in the settings, that iTunes last checked for podcasts at 2 am and will look again at 2 am the next day. Awesome, not. Every single time I try this, iTunes always resets itself and decides to look for podcasts at 2:49 pm. I can't work it out.
So, if anyone has a solution, I would love to hear it! I'm on the latest version. 9.0.2. Thanks for reading.
Regards,
Daniel

I'm looking for the solution to this issue too. Once or twice, a full system restart has seemed to solve the problem temporarily but it slips back to an afternoon refresh after a few days.
Seems like it would be simple for Apple to allow us to specify a time of day for refreshes in the preferences section.

• New podcasts won't sync w/iTunes 7

After upgrading to v.7, any of my new podcasts that have been downloaded (BTW, there's no longer an "Update" button -- wonder why that is) are greyed out and unchecked. I can't check the little box, nor play them in iTunes. When I sync my iPod, they don't download to the iPod, yet they've definitely downloaded to my computer.
What the heck does it mean when a podcast/file is greyed out & unchecked & unresponsive?

In iTunes, go to the Store menu and Deauthorize your computer. Play one of your purchased songs. When prompted enter your Apple ID and password. Now resync the songs.

• How long should it take for a new podcast episode to show up in iTunes?

Greetings, I have a podcast listed in iTunes and it showed up fine after they listed it. However, about 6 hours ago I uploaded a new episode (number 2 - woohoo) and it's not showing up in iTunes yet. Obviously when I fired up iTunes it downloaded it for me as I was subscribed but if you search for my podcast under iTunes podcasts it only shows one episode.
The podcast is Duel Boot Radio, hosted on libsyn (http://duelbootradio.libsyn.com/) and the iTunes listing is at http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=121788608&s=143 441
Yes, if anyone does listen, we have a ways to go on our sound quality, etc.
Anyway, is this normal for this type of delay before a new show appears in iTunes?
mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hi Scott.
Some people are reporting problems with getting new episodes listed. Here are a couple of things to try:
- Make sure you have the
tag in the
tag
- Include the tags

in the
tag
- After you've uploaded your new .xml file with the updated info, PING the iTunes server with
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=xxxxxxxx where xxxxxxxx is your ID number
You can also use the html address like this:
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?feedURL=http://www.YOURADDRESS.org/YOURFILE.xml
- And lastly, once you have downloaded the new episode in iTunes, PLAY it all the way to the end (you can jump to the end) so the date played shows. I believe this sends something back to the iTMS, and sometimes it helps to update.
Hope this is helpful.

• New Podcast Episode Not Updating in iTunes

Hello Apple Community,
My name is Sara Simms, I have recently started a new DJ podcast series called Flight. My new episode has not updated yet in the iTunes store (its been over three days since I uploaded it)
My podcast episodes are hosted here:
http://sarasimms.blogspot.ca
My Feedburner URL is:
feed://feeds.feedburner.com/sarasimmsflightofficialpodcast
I also uploaded new artwork via Feedburner, in the 'Podcast' section of iTunes I see the artwork has updated.
However, in the iTunes store itself, the new artwork is not displayed. Here is the link to my iTunes podcast:
http://bit.ly/VM8tcF
I just pinged Feedburner, hopefully this helps to update everything.
Could anyone else please let me know if there's anything else I should check/change to make sure my podcast episodes are updating?
Thank you in advance!
Best wishes,
Sara Simms

Your second episode has a media file referenced at http://sarasimms.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/flight_episode_two
This works when the URL is entered in a browser, but at the URL has no extension (.mp3) iTunes does not see it as being a media file and thus does not display the episode. You need to give a full URL including the extension, as you have done for your first episode.
You are mixing episodes with and without media files - there are a lot of earlier episodes which don't have media files - these won't show in iTunes. If blogger limits the number of episodes shown in the feed, these will count towards that limit which could result in episodes not showing in iTunes once you have added enough episodes to trigger the limit.
