A possible fix for adobe reader icons on windows 2000 with SP4

*This is not a problem! I am posting here because I have received help from some other part of this problem and I have read in other places where people have problems with making the pdf icon appear.*
If the icons won't show after installing adobe reader 9 on your computer, then there is a possible fix you guys can try. Right click on 'Start' for explorer or click on 'My Computer'.
Click Tools > Folder Options > File Types (tab)
Try to find the pdf extension in that long list of extensions.
Below the 'Change...' button, it should read 'Restore' (i'm not sure about this). Click on it once so that it should now read 'Advanced'.
The restore function is to restore the icons to those files which have lost their identities, so to speak.

No issues when setting back as per you instruction below.
Thank you very much.
Why would I have such an experience in the first place?
Rgds,
Dave

This yields many results.  I did not look at them all, but the most promising one was that a potential Windows Update was still running in the background, e.g. updating .NET Framework or Visual C++ runtime.  Once the Windows Update was complete, the user could successfully install Adobe Reader.
Can you check with the Task Manager (Processes tab) if some updates are going on (e.g. presence of MSIEXEC or such).

  • Possible fix for Adobe PDF plug ins (Safari & Print) on Snow Leopard

I think I just discovered a "fix" for the Adobe PDF problem, as well as for some other miscelanious problems with Snow Leopard applications. I found the fix for the plug in from PDF on Adobe's website. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50983.html
Following these directions (changing the option from 64-bit, to 32-bit when the application loads), seems to have cured the plug-in for PDF from Adobe and loads the plug in properly.
There is a link, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/512/cpsid_51248.html for changing the settings similarly for Automator to fix the "save as PDF" in Print.
I've also applied this "suggested fix" to Mail and Address Book, to see if it remedies some of the continued glitching and crashes on my iMac, even after the latest update (10.6.1). No problems with my PBG4, as it's not Snow Leopard nor Intel.
    Hope this solution is useful.

  • Changing the installation path for Adobe Reader X under Windows XP

I installed Adobe Reader on an external drive called G:\
Now I do not have this G:\ drive anymore and I want to install Adobe Reader X on my main drive : C:\ but when I download the software there is no possibility to select a new path.  Adobe Reader X automatically tries to install itself on the G:\ drive and fails with the comment : G:\ Drive is no longer valid.
How can I force the installation on my C:\ drive in the Progam Files ?

I have had no luck with this solution.  All that happens is that the WINDOWS INSTALLER window open itself...  Any idea ?  I am at a lost here !!!  Thanks
Firstly go to control panel -> Add Remove Programs and check if there is any entry for Reader X. If it is present, uninstall it by clicking on uninstall button (it gets highlighted when you select reader X entry in Add Remove Programs). Let the uninstallation complete. Download Reader from adobe site  http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise  on to your local machine. Install then using command line  msiexec /i  INSTALLDIR="Location to Install" /qb

  • Adobe Reader 5.0/Windows 2000 Help

We are currently using Windows XP and Adobe Reader 8.0 and are sending, by CD, PDF files to another company who uses Adobe Reader 5.0 and Windows 2000.
The company we're sending the files to cannot open the PDF files due to an 'incompatible file format'.
Why is this? And what should I do, or tell them, to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

A possible cause for this are "xref streams" (and "object streams"),
    introduced in PDF 1.5.
Reader 5 handles PDF versions up to 1.4. If the PDFs you have use "xref
streams", then older readers won't be able to open them at all. [There also
exist "hybrid ref PDFs", that can be opened with older readers but with
reduced capabilities.] If you can put such a PDF somewhere publicly
available and post a link here, I can take a look to see if it's this case.
All that you can do is convert these PDFs to 1.4 or an earlyer version. I
think Acrobat 6 and later (the full version, not the Reader) can do this.
They will be larger, as the "xref/object streams" produce better
compression, but compatible with older readers.

  • [How-To] Possible Fixes For Disortions + Missing Icons

    Hi There
I just finished watching the webcast, and decided to download the new iTunes and after installing it...I experienced what most of you had experienced as well. Disortions on ALL music playback (with an external Creative Sound Card AND with the built in sound card and notebook speakers).
Here are some methods to fix these issues manually:
    1) Icon Problems
Go to your My Computer >> Local "C" Drive >> Program Files >> iTunes >> right click on the iTunes.exe and click create shortcut >> the new shortcut has the new icon image on it >> rename it to just iTunes (optional) >> drag it to your desktop and you're fine
    2) Sound Disortions
Open Up QuickTime >> Edit >> Preferences >> QuickTime Preferences >> Audio >> Sound Out:
    Rate: 441.kHz
    Size: 16 Bit
Click Apply (Don't bother trying to play a song in iTunes yet, it will sound the same) Once applied, click Okay, then quit QuickTime.
Once you have exitted QuickTime, Exit iTunes as well and ensure that both have been exitted properly. Close all active programs / including FireFox and then open up iTunes and try playing a song.
I am not an expert at this, I just happened to read othere members posts and followed the fixes and it worked for me.
The features including Gapless Playback all work for me and it is running smoothly for me now.
    Have a nice day!

    Hi,
I would suggest we try the registry key mentioned in this
article (Method 4) to configure Outlook to allow the connection to the mismatched domain name, and see if it works:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<var>xx</var>.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover\RedirectServers
Let me know if this doesn't work.

YOu need to be clear about the products you are using, so we can help you. In particular there is no trial of Adobe Reader, it is free and keeps running. Sounds like you are using some versions of Acrobat - which?
YOu must properly uninstall the trial, don't just delete files or you may get a mess impossible to recover.

  • Is it possible to put adobe reader on my website for pdf file users ?

Is it possible to put adobe reader on my website for pdf file users ?

The point is that, like all licensed software, you need permission to redistribute it in any form. So the question is: is that permission granted? If you can find anywhere that grants it that's fine.
Adobe used to give out such permission back in the days of Reader 1, 2, 3... but I believe it was long ago removed. There is a strong reason to do this today: third party redistributors aren't likely to be hot on updating to new versions etc. There is a more cynical view: Adobe would also lose such benefits as it might get from offering dubious "extras" with the download. Finally, and strongly - if anyone can distribute it, these days who can tell who has the real product and who has a malware impersonator?

  • My desktop is covered with Adobe Reader icons. Why? How to get rid of them?

For some reason, my desktop recently become infested with Abobe Acrobat icons. I did nothing. one day I turned on my computer and of the maybe 100 icons on my desktop were changed to the Acrobat icons (or at least something that looks very much like it). The programs that they are connected to all still work.
So this is something that came along from the web (apparently) and switched in new icons for many of the programs on my desktop. Or what else I do not know.
The issue is how can I change all of these icons back to the images that they have been since the programs were installed or the file was stored on my desktop?
I actually saw the transition occur. All of a sudden my desktop flickered and 60 or 70 of the 160 icons on it were for Adobe Reader and, in fact,  look exactly like the Adobe Readr icons I see now on this web page!!@!!

  • Acrobat Standard 6.0 Set as Default Viewer, but Browser is looking for Adobe Reader 8 or 9

    All,
I use Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 for viewing and creating PDF's.  Just a couple of days ago, I tried opening a patent document I found on Google.  The browser displayed the following error:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.  Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
So I looked for an update for Adobe Reader and downloaded Adobe Reader 9.1.2.
The next PDF document that I opened came up in Adobe Reader....NOT Adobe Acrobat.  The installation must have changed the default viewer.  So I right-clicked on the PDF file icon and selected OPEN WITH Adobe Acrobat.  I clicked the checkbox to "Always open with this program..."  This seems to have fixed the default viewer problem, as PDF files now open with Adobe Acrobat Standard...just the way I want things to work.
I still have the problem of not being able to open many documents within a browser...I think because the browser is looking to open the PDF files in Adobe Reader 9.1.2, NOT Acrobat 6.0.  But Adobe Acrobat is now the default viewer.
Does Acrobat function independently of Reader?  Or is Reader a module that is required for Acrobat to function properly?  Whatever the case may be, can somebody suggest a fix for this problem?
    Thanks,
    Neal
    [email address deleted by host]

They do not require each other for running as mentioned. There are some modules in common and that is where you run into problems. There are issues with the parts that remain resident also. I would suggest you follow the other advice you have been given. Unfortunately, there are some PDFs that may not open correctly in AA6. You may have run into some of those.

  • Possible fix for errors 11503 and 50

Here's a possible fix for Error 11503 and for error 50.
It worked for me and hopefully it will work for you.
I believe this error is caused by the incomplete downloading of either an update to an app. In my case it was caused by closing the lid on my laptop when I was downloading app updates on a very slow internet connection in a hotel.
Anyway, here is what I did that fixed it completely.
    Close iTunes.
    Go to this folder : /iTunes/Mobile Applications/Downloads
You'll find tmp files there. Drag them out of this folder to a temporary folder on your desktop. The Downloads folder should now be empty.
    Restart iTunes.
    All should be fine.
If it is, delete the desktop folder with all the temp files.
If it's not, then I can't help further, but that's what worked for me.

Several possible causes from the info you gave
Battery level low - recharge it for at least 4 hours till the full charge sign displays (2 prong icon instead of lightning icon).
Time to Reset the iPod - Press the Menu and center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then let go of the buttons.
your hardisk is starting to give problems, hence the skipping and some song refuse to play. - Do a disk diagnostic - follow this post by tt2.
         https://discussions.apple.com/message/17028567#17028567
If you have updated any sofware application in Windows, then follow this Apple support procedure
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539
Most likely you have to do all, as the iPod hardisk filesystem would have been corrupted, or else the iPod Reset would bring it to normal operation.
    Good Luck!

  • Is there a 64 bit install for Adobe Reader?

    Hello,
I want to make a note that I did a search on the form, using the following text
"Is there a 64 bit install for adobe reader?"
And I did not find my answer.  That is why I'm posting this as a question.
So, with that out of the way....
I am getting ready to build a new computer for myself, and will be running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.  Before I begin, I want to make sure I have all of my software that I want installed, and I am doing research on each program to see if there is a 64 bit version that can be installed.  What I would like to do is have as many as my programs that I install be 64 bit as possible.  I know that not every program will be 64 bit, but I did want to get as many of them as possible to be 64 bit applications.
As I do want a PDF reader on my computer, and I have used Adobe Reader for years, I started looking on the web site to download the current version.  However, I did not see any place that I could download a 64 bit version of Adobe Reader.
That is why I'm here asking.  Is there a 64 bit version of Adobe Reader that I can download?  If so, where is it on the web site?
This does lead me to a follow up question.  Is there a 64 bit version of the Flash Player, as well as the Shockwave player?  If so, where can I download them from as well.
    Thanks in advance,

Again, I think you need to check the Microsoft web page, as I was able to find 64 bit versions of IE8 for download.
The URL to access the page is
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-8
From that page, I am able to select a 64 bit version of IE 8 for the following Operating Systems
      -- Windows XP 64 Bit
      -- Windows Vista 64 Bit
      -- Windows Server 2003 64 Bit
      -- Windows Server 2008 64 Bit
Windows 7 is not listed as an option as it already comes with IE8 installed by default.
Looks to me that Microsoft has already released a 64 bit version of IE8.
In fact, I went ahead and downloaded IE8 for Windows 2003 Server x64 bit, and looked at the details of the file.  Each microsoft download has a digital signature associated with them, showing a date and time of when the exe was built.
According to what is shown below, IE8 for Windows Server 2003 has been around since Sunday, March 08, 2009.
So, what has adobe been doing since March of 2009?  IE8 has been 64 bit for well over 2 years now (it will be 3 in March of 2012). While I know that it does take time to develop new applications, I don't think it would take 3 years for Adobe to come up with a 64 bit version of Reader that could have been built under the 64 bit platform.

  • FOUND A FIX FOR ADOBE FLASH PLAYER 11.9.900.152

I have Windows 7, 64bit and Internet Explorer 11 installed.  I found the fix for Adobe Flash Player after 2 days of doing everything.  I thought that the fix should be something very easy and it was.  I spent 2 full days doing all kinds of ridiculous things, i.e. uninstalling, reinstalling, restore computer, deactiving XActive, reactivating, changing stuff under internet options, etc.  The problem was Internet Explorer 11 update caused Adobe Flash Player not to work or recognize the flash player, or installing a new router caused it not to work.  Websites kept displaying messages to download Adobe Flash Player when I already did.  There appeared to be a conflict where some videos played and other did not.  Youtube did not work anymore.  All the problems that other people posted under these forums happened to me.  I could not play the games I was playing before, etc.  Anyway, I am NOT a tech person and understand little and almost gave up when by accident I found the fix and EVERYTHING works without rebooting anything, uninstalling or reinstalling etc. as all the people in the forums posted.  Everything was so complicated!!
THE FIX:  Go to Goodgle Chrome browser.  If you don't have it, download it.  The Adobe Flash Player is included in this browser.  Anyway, at the very top RIGHT HAND SIDE there are lines in a square formation.  Click on that and go to SETTINGS.  Go to very bottom and click on SHOW ADVANCED SETTINGS.  SCROLL DOWN TO THE VERY BOTTOM and click on RESET BROWSER SETTINGS.  After I did that, EVERYTHING WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! Youtube worked, my game worked in BOTH GOOGLE CHROME AND INTERNET EXPLORER 11.  It was like a miracle and  a simple fix.
I hope I can save some people ALOT of aggravation and frustration.  Adobe should have this fix displayed PROMINENTLY EVERYWHERE if it is indeed this simple.  Let me know if this helps.  All I know is that I had the same issues as everyone else in the forums and now it is all fixed.  I have very limited knowledge, almost none.  It just seemed that something was blocking the videos from coming up.

Thanks Mike.  I'm not sure what I'm doing but I also re-downloaded the flash player and I got YouTube videos to play again.  I have IE11 that I tried to uninstall (it won't let me) so I had to use a restore point, so videos I noticed in yahoo.ca can't play but I read lots of people having issues with this.  But, by using a restore point, and re-downloading the flash player (a couple of time until it took), I got Youtube and my game back on IE11.  I plan to use Chrome Google though after this experience as everything works there
