A problem with hyperlinks in my Interactive PDF on smartphones...

I hope someone can help...  I exported both an interactive and for print PDF from inDesign.  When I view the PDFs on my pc the hyperlinks that I've made in the document work perfectly fine.  When I view the PDFs on my smartphone, the hyperlinks don't work.  I've gone through many forums to make sure all my settings were correct and have tried many different things to try to get them to work, but still no luck.  Has anyone come across this issue?  Is there any way to get these hyperlinks to work on a smartphone?

Interactive PDFs on mobile devices are nothing short of a crapshoot.
The readers are hit or miss and the better ones require payment.
I wish I had better news for you but right now, that’s the way it is.

  • Two problems with MP3 files for interactive PDFs

    1. I'm putting in two interview excerpts for an interactive pdf. Last week when I tried to import the first MP3, I got the "cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation" error message. I don't know anything about sound files, so I just tried To MP3 from the App store, which converted my MP3 file to another MP3 file, I guess. The new file worked fine.
I got the second file today and had the same problem. I sent the following urls (http://indesignsecrets.com/forum/general-indesign-topics/how-to-place-an-mp3-file-into-ind esign-cs5-which-was-edited-with-audacity-and-converted-with-switch, http://indesignsecrets.com/forum/general-indesign-topics/no-filter-found-for-requested-ope ration-mp3) I found that seem to describe similar problems to our sound guy at work.He tried lowering the bit rate, but it didn't do any good. So when I got home, I tried To MP3, and it solved the problem again.
Does anybody know why this is happening?
    2. Once I had the first sound file in place, I wanted to replace the small gray box that Acrobat puts in. Bob Levine suggested
    http://indesignsecrets.com/hiding-sound-files-in-an-interactive-pdf.php
which worked great, but I needed some way to control the audio. I tried a variation of Steven Werner's suggestions in
    http://indesignsecrets.com/hiding-sound-files-in-an-interactive-pdf.php
It was working fine, when I had just a play and pause button, but when I added a resume, the play button just stopped working. I tried all sorts of variations, getting rid of the double actions in the buttons, starting new files, new buttons, but the play button just didn't work. In my last test, the play button worked, but only after I had pressed resume. So I am completely stumped.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.
    I'm using InDesign 7.0.4, Mac OSX 10.6.8

OK, I should have thought more  before I answered.
So I see that Media Encounter does import audio files but it only exports video. However, I did a test with making a video file from the MP3, importing that video into InDesign, reducing the video, using the multi-function buttons, and everything worked fine. I got the warning message that the "interactive elements are clipped in ways that PDF files cannot reproduce" but it didn't interfere with playing it back. Still, I feel as if I'm cheating and something is going to come back and haunt me.
The disadvantage is that the video files are larger than the audio.

  • Oracle Text - Problem with filtering binary documents (.doc, .pdf, etc...)

Hi, I have a problem with filtering binary documents (.doc, .pdf, etc...). I use SQL*PLUS for remote access to Oracle 10.2 on Linux and I create table:
    CREATE TABLE test (id NUMBER PRIMARY KEY, text VARCHAR2(100));
    I insert to this table:
    INSERT into test values(1, 'PATH/text1.doc‘);
    INSERT into test values(2,'PATH/text2.doc‘);
    and then:
CREATE INDEX test_index ON test(text) indextype is ctxsys.context
    parameters (’datastore ctxsys.file_datastore
    filter ctxsys.auto_filter’);
Message "Index created" is displayed, but objects: DR$test_index$I, DR$test_index$K, DR$test_index$N, DR$test_index$R and DR$test_index$P are empty => index wasn´t created probably.
I don´t know, where is bug, either bug is somewhere in this code or on the server (wrong installation oracle or constraint privileges). Do you know in what is bug?

The following is an excerpt from the 10g online documentation. Note the items that I have put in bold.
    "FILE_DATASTORE
The FILE_DATASTORE type is used for text stored in files accessed through the local file system.
    Note:
FILE_DATASTORE may not work with certain types of remote mounted file systems.
    FILE_DATASTORE has the following attribute(s):
    Table 2-4 FILE_DATASTORE Attributes
    Attribute Attribute Value
    path path1:path2:pathn
    path
Specify the full directory path name of the files stored externally in a file system. When you specify the full directory path as such, you need only include file names in your text column.
You can specify multiple paths for path, with each path separated by a colon (:) on UNIX and semicolon(;) on Windows. File names are stored in the text column in the text table.
If you do not specify a path for external files with this attribute, Oracle Text requires that the path be included in the file names stored in the text column.
    PATH Attribute Limitations
The PATH attribute has the following limitations:
If you specify a PATH attribute, you can only use a simple filename in the indexed column. You cannot combine the PATH attribute with a path as part of the filename. If the files exist in multiple folders or directories, you must leave the PATH attribute unset, and include the full file name, with PATH, in the indexed column.
On Windows systems, the files must be located on a local drive. They cannot be on a remote drive, whether the remote drive is mapped to a local drive letter."
With accessible paths and files, you get something like:

  • Hi guys. i have some problem with a link from a pdf on-line,when i click on it,the page adds a "%" at the and of the link and says "page not found" because of it

Hi guys. i have some problem with a link from a pdf on-line,when i click on it,the page adds a "%" at the and of the link and says "page not found" because of it.
This happens only when a load my pdf file on my server, because if i click on the link when the file is on my iPad, the page opens without problem.
    Any help please?
    thanx

the % sign is often used when there's a space in a name. HTML doesn't like spaces so it fills them with % or %20
try, on the end of that link, see if there's a space built into the page or the link when the page was made
On the web address you may be able to 'backspace' at the end and erase that space to get the address, but whomever made the page possibly put a mistake in the link

  • Error with buttons in an interactive PDF with "go to URL" action applied

Hello, I am having an issue with buttons in an interactive PDF, specifically buttons that have a “go to URL” action applied to them. Most of the buttons in the document work fine and link out correctly however, some of the linked buttons InDesign is adding spaces to the end of the url, which the browser interprets as “%20” and breaks the link i.e. (http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/indesign_reference.pdf%20). The added space effects multiple buttons in my document seemingly randomly, potential Bug? When the added space is deleted from the URL via the Button and Forms Panel’s URL field it is re-added by InDesign upon deselecting the button. Obviously the links can be updated in acrobat after export, but this is tedious and time consuming. Any help that can be provided would be much appreciated. Thanks!

But I have InDesign documents with sometimes 60-100 buttons in them. Previously I had to do nothing other save out of InDesign as an interactive PDF - perfect, with no editing in Acrobat at all apart from for a couple of document javascripts. It also applies to any interactive element. Buttons that are used for “show/hide” with others to create reveals and builds etc. Buttons that link to other pages within the document.
InDesign allows master page interactive buttons… make once use many times, Acrobat allows individual and painstaking editing of however many pages and buttons there are in the document, sometimes hundreds.
The solution is, until Adobe do a decent job of DC to revert to Pro XI and pretend its never happened.

  • Problem with Hyperlinks - Creating Interactive PDF from an In-design Book

Im working on producing a Interactive PDF from an In-design Book which consists of 9 Indesign Documents.
The problem I am having is with Navigation when I export the pdf
When I export out to 'Interactive' pdf the hyperlinks DONT link to other documents
When I export out to 'print' pdf the hyperlinks DO link to other documents but the buttons to 'Go to next page' no longer work
    Cheers,
    Jamie

Thanks for the reply. I got the IT to upgrade to 5.5 and it now works. Rather an annoying bug for CS5 though

  • Problems with hyperlink when converting .docx to .pdf using Word 2010

I have a Word 2010 .docx document that has a link to a web site in it. The link works fine in Word, but does not work after the conversion to PDF. I am using the Acrobat add on in Word to create the PDF.
There is a pound sign ( # ) in the Word doc hyperlink and it is being changed to a percent sign ( % ) during the conversion to PDF. Any suggestions?

I will report the bug. I had read about some other problems with .docx files so I saved the .docx to .doc and then converted but I got the same results.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Problem with hyperlink to a file

    Hello!
I have created an interactive pdf that is intended to be our interactive Table of Contents for our server. The files listed in the table of contents are linked to the files that are on the server. I thought that hyperlinks to files directed the file to open in its native application? If this is in fact the case, then I'm not sure what I am doing wrong because my files are opening with Chrome/Internet Explorer/Firefox. I would really like these files to open with their native application, so if anyone can offer some help that would be awesome!
    Thank you :-)

It should work, though Indesign can not create hyperlinks in PDFs that link to actual files (action "Open file"), but only link to web adresses starting with file: protocol handler.
Means, if you export your PDF from Indesign, no matter if Print or Interactive, and then open in Acrobat and check the hyperlink properties, it says "Open hyperlink". If you click it, it is handled depending on you system settings. In your case, files open in browser. In my case (tried with linking PDF to PDF), it worked as expected.
But you could edit the link in Acrobat to "Open file" and voila - it works. Problem is, it is annoyingly cumbersome to edit every link in Acrobat.
I just tried to avoid hyperlinks to files in my documents.

  • Button problems when including a video. (interactive PDF)

I am having issues when exporting my interactive PDF from In-design. On a specific page with a video included, the buttons with actions to next and previous page do not seem transition to the next page like they do throughout the rest of the PDF. It barely responds at all, if I click it over and over it sometimes goes to the next page but its not a smooth transition. I am using the latest adobe acrobat pro to view the PDF. If anyone has an answer to this problem it was be a massive help.
    Cheers
    Kyle

There´s something you can do, but you will need Acrobat for that.
That dotted line is a preference element called Focus Rectangle, you can hide it manually in Preferences > Forms > Show Focus Rectangle (Uncheck) or you can add one line of javascript to document level or for instance page 1 (if you change it in your preferences, only you will see the effect naturally), so javascript method is probably better in your case.
If you want to add that javasctript to page 1, simply open thumbnails panel, select page 1 thumb and choose Page Properties from panel menu. Go to Actions tab and choose Run Javascript and click Add. Then paste....
    app.focusRect = false;
....to Javascript editor and click OK (few times, until you are back in page view). No your user will run that javascript command everytime he/she opens the page 1 and hides that dotted Focus Rectangle....

  • How do I play FC swf with animation & video inside interactive pdf?

Hello...good people! I want to create an interactive PDF using a published FC swf (offline view version) with flv video and animation. The problem I'm having is with video playback inside the pdf. EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS EXCEPT VIDEO! It's as if Acrobat is not reading the asset folder (where the video file is located) created by FC. All animations work and even the video control (skin) appears! Just....no....video!
When I RUN PROJECT (inside browser), everything works perfectly!
As a matter of fact, I am able to create damn-near-the-same SWF (with flv video playback and animation) inside InDesign CS5 (hint hint!) using the animation and media panel and Export> SWF command (and again everything works perfectly!)
In case you want to know how I do it, here's how it works....
    1. Drag-and-drop your SWF created in InDesign into Acrobat 9 Pro or Pro Extended.
    2. When the INSERT FLASH dialogue box appears, check SHOW ADVANCED OPTIONS. Click the RESOURCES tab. Click the ADD DIRECTORY button. Then, locate the asset folder (with flv/f4v video) associated with your SWF. Click OK.
    3. And bam!!...the SWF (video playback and animation) should appear and play as soon as the dialogue box closes.
But remember...this is with InDesign CS5! How do I do this with FC? Why does everything work BUT the video playback when I follow these same steps after publishing from FC? WHAT AM I MISSING OR DOING WRONG?!!! I know I can do a lot more with FC and I want to see the same awesomeness of FC interactivity in my PDF as I see in my browser!!! If InDesign can do it, I know there's a way FC can!!!! Now....a little help please!
    Thanks,
    Big Waddy

    Hi,
Interesting application for the Fc output.  I tried this out and it seems to work fine.  Here are the steps I went through.
Created the fxp file and output the result
    Created the pdf
From inside Acrobat Pro, I selected the Multimedia > Flash Tool and then chose the area in the document where I wanted to place the Fc output
I chose the Main.swf for placement
    Acrobat Pro places the file
I saved the pdf and then opened the file in the browser
A play button appears and works when pressed
Not sure what would happen when placed on a server.  Expect that you would need to keep all the files in the correct path/relationship to each other.
    Hope this helps.

  • Discoverer Plus - Problem with Page Orientation when printing pdf's

    Hi,
When printing pdf's in Disco Plus I have a problem:
My workbooks are a mixture of landscape and portrait pages.
I am printing the entire workbook and then using cutepdf to produce a pdf.
If I print to paper I get the correct landscape/portrait settings.
If I print to pdf then landscape pages appear vertically when I view on screen so that the text is running from bottom to top of the page.
So it is picking up th portrait/landscape settings from the individual worksheets but cutepdf has not realised that the pages are landscape so they appear on the screen vertically.
This was not a problem on discoverer desktop so I am confident that this is not a problem with cutepdf.
    Any thoughts?
    Justin

    Thanks 2257648922,
    Version details are as follows:
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.3)
Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.55.26)
    Discoverer Model - 10.1.2.55.26
    Discoverer Server - 10.1.2.55.26
    End User Layer - 5.1.1.0.0.0

So I assume that means my version doesn't have the bug you mention.

  • Problem with colors when print to pdf in FM9

    Hi,
we have some problems with printing colors to pdf with FM9.
The FM document contains (1) eps file with a green box and (2) a rectangle created with FM graphic tools, filled with the same green color values (91/0/60/44)
In FrameMaker the two colors really looks different, but so what, in the PDF both colors (eps) and rectangle got the same correct green color.
Ok, the were different in creation, so they were CMYK and RGB, but your print shop could manage that.
    Now in FM 9:
    (1) If I do a "save as PDF"  and switch OFF "convert CMYK to RGB" the resulting PDF is the same as from FM8 (correct)
    (2) If I print to PDF via distiller and define the job options to "convert all colors to CMYK" the resulting rectangle green is very  different from the eps green.
I tried different job options, the best result was "convert all colors to CMYK", other options just very more ugly.
Does someone of you know a solution for your problem? Help is very appreciated. I could send example files if necessary.
    Thanks in advance.

    PK-ulm wrote:
But we want to use the print option, using the distiller.
    Pia,
this last sentence needs some explanation, I think. Why do you want to use the print option?
Using the print option, you still go the same route as FrameMaker Win always did, which is using the RGB-only Windows postscript driver. Now, with FM9, you have the option to get CMYK colors directly to PDF, as defined, without any color conversion. And it *does* work, as long as you restrict your documents to either CMYK colors or spot colors coming from the FM libraries.
So, again: why do you want to use the print option?
On a sidenote: I'm not sure if I interpret your username correctly, but if you are able to understand German, you'll find some in-depth color tests made with FM9 here: http://www.hilfdirselbst.ch/foren/FM_9_und_Farben_in_PDFs____getestet_P387800.html

  • Problems with special characters displaying in PDF when exported.

I have a very frustrating question. I've never had any problems with font and pdfs before switching to the operating system for Mac. Of course, they have Helvetica Neue pre-installed as a system font. The problem is, Bold doesn't work and is not an option. I've tried using Helvetica Neue (TT) but special character and punctuation disappear completely.
    See below:
    MЧnica PОrez
Unfortunately, that is supposed to say Monica Perez. There are supposed to be marks above the "o" and "e". Can anyone help me?

Try copying your T1 Helvetica Neue font into the Applications/Indesign/Fonts folder. This will give you the complete family in Indesign overriding the system TT.

  • Problem with selecting text in a PDF document

I'm having a problem with Acrobat 9 and Reader 9.  PDF document that has copying and selecting permissions granted, when I highlight text for copying, some of it gets highlighted and some doesn't.  Put the same document on several computers in the office, same issue.  It's the document, but I can't figure out what the deal is.
We need to copy large portions of this into a new tech manual.
    Can someone help

Without further information, my first reaction is to think that the texts that you cannot copy are included as images.
