• Blue wallpaper showing on 2012 Macbook Pro

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro 15" running the latest Mountain Lion software. Today, when I turned it on, the wallpaper was a blank blue colour (normally it uses a folder of my custom images). I had to go into system preferences to recheck the boxes. I then added another desktop, and that came up with a blank blue wallpaper, which I then had to go into system preferences to fix.
This has only happened after the latest mountain lion update, which makes me wonder if it is something to do with that.
Any help with either fixing the issue or any reseting that needs to be done would be verymuh appreciated

No, you'll have to contact Adobe if you want to upgrade to CS5.5. sig just gave you the link to teh Roaring Apps website that lists comapatible software for use with Lion and Mountain Lion. If I were you, I would just go ahead and update to CS6 - or begin using Adobe's Creative Cloud. Since I had purchased a qualifying product (CS6 Design and Web Premium) I was eligible to subscribe to Creatiev Cloud for only $30 per month. Even at $50 per month, it's a great deal - all of the Adobe software you'd ever need for about 1/3 or less of your cable bill.
Good luck - check out the free one month trial of Creatiev Cloud - http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html.

• Light Blue wallpaper always... I cant change it

I am getting this blank blue wallpaper and i dont know how to change it...I try to change it but it wont work, i dont know what to do.
Thanks,

Your profile indicates that your OS is 10.8.1. If that is the case, update to the current level, !0.8.2. Perhaps that may solve the problem.
If that does not work, go in the user LIBRARY>PREFERENCES and trash 'com.apple.desktop.plist'.
Ciao.

• How to recover classic Aqua Blue wallpaper after Lion clean install?

When I did a clean install of Lion I lost my lovely classic Aqua Blue (originally Tiger?) wallpaper.
An upgrade on a different Mac kept my original wallpaper.
How do I download and install that simple Aqua Blue one?
Thanks.

Try this: (1) On your Mac mount the disk in the Time Capsule (probably called "Data"). (2) In the "Data" volume locate and mount the "sparsebundle" image that contains the "old" backups. (3) Click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose from the pop-up menu the option to "Browse Other Time Machine Disks". That should give you access to the old files.

• Encore won't create 5min simple blu ray video

I can't figure it out. I have a simple 4-5 minute video I worked with in Premiere and all I want to do is put it on a blu ray disc with no menu. It really doesn't get more simple than this. Using adobe dynamic link I'm able to create the build as an image. I burned it to a disc and it won't play. So I tried opening up the image using VLC media player and it won't open. Also I tried exporting the movie from Premiere as an MPEG2 and then importing it into Encore and same problem. Is the video too short? I've never had this problem.

Hi,
thanks for all the replies especially Stan for trying to replicate the problem! Here are some screen shots of what's on the disc:
Above: disc show the title of the movie
Above: Two folders on the disc
Above: Files inside BDMV
To answer Ann's question, Yes it is a BD disk and yes it is a BD project
Thanks!

• Retina Mac Reverting to Blue Wallpaper

I've Google to no end and the bottom line turns out to be reformat. I've tried editing the symbolic link, renaming the wallpaper in the system folder, etc. but upon reboot no matter what wallpaper I change it to, it reverts to just plain blue. The last thing I did on it before this problem occured was full screen iTunes and set my own wallpaper from within safari (right click Use as desktop Picture). The full screen iTunes bit may be the culprit upon a google result I found. Does anyone know a definiative solution to this issue? Just google '10.7.4 wallpaper' to see the countless others with this issue.

Managed to solve this by deleting two system files and rebooting. I made a script here:
echo "This will erase com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.lockfile in ~/Library/Preferences"
echo "Please enter your root password:"
su
cd ~/Library/Preferences
rm com.apple.desktop.plist
rm com.apple.desktop.plist.lockfile
echo "Files deleted successfully, please reboot"
Just put this in text edit then save as FixWallpaper.sh, then double click it. You can re-run it if it reoccurs.
A temporary fix is to do a "killall Dock" as well.

• Dock Gone, MultiTouch Gone, Blue Wallpaper?

I have a 2.4 GHz Unibody Macbook. The other day, I bumped it a bit hard and it turned itself off. When I tried to start it up again, it basically relayed symptoms of the HD failing. I read a few different things, and was ready to replace the HD, but I decided to try taking everything out and putting it back in. (HD, RAM). Once I did this, The unit started up telling me one of my RAMs was not seated correctly with the beeps. I tried several times, and it appears I am down to one 2GHz stick of RAM from two of them. I then started up my MacBook and this time it started up fine. However, a few things are wrong. My wallpaper has been turned into just a light blue background, which I cannot change in System Preferences. My dock has disappeared, which I also can't see through system preferences. I am unable to use any of my multi touch gestures on the track pad. I am not sure if this is an issue with my preferences, or if I should just reinstall Snow Leopard? I have a backup of everything, and am typing this from said MacBook. I just can't access my dock, and do a lot of small things. Does anyone have any suggestions? Restarting has not helped either.
Thanks in advance.

My dock is gone, my wallpaper is blue, and nothing I do changes anything. I repaired disk permissions, and nothing happened.

• Simple XMonad Wallpaper

There was a cool haskell background in the screenshot thread, and I decided to make essentially the same thing except with a XMonad logo.
I made the background the specific color #161616 to match with my xmobar and terminal colors. If anyone wants a different background color or color scheme in general, just go ahead and ask. Its not too difficult to change.
Heres a pic of it on my desk:

opothehippo wrote:@SpeedVin: The problem with resizing in gimp (or photoshop for that matter, which I'm using) is that nearly all images created in gimp are raster graphics. That means that resizing them beyond there original size/resolution will create pixelation. The solution is to use vector graphics, which requires additional software. Inkscape is a great free editor available on linux (or windows, but I prefer adobe illustrator). Check out this link for more info on vector/raster graphics.
Thanks for advice I will try to work with Inkscape , but I have two questions.
1.When I try change the size of my file/wall created in gimp (raster graphics) and save the queality of image is only a little better , then that's mean I have to draw my new image in Inkscape (vector graphcips)?
2.Do you know how to save image as jpg or png I tryed option:
Export as bitmap
But I can't set this as wallpaper.
Thanks
1. Yes, you have to recreate the image using inkscape only. I know that in Adobe Illustrator they have a live trace tool to convert Raster to Vector graphics, but thats overpriced mac/windows only software you dont want. If you want to use that arch logo in your drawing (which I assume you do) you can download a .svg file of it. .svg is the Standard Vector Graphics format. Anything in that format is a Vector graphic and can be scaled to any size without a loss in quality. Once you have your vector arch logo in inkspace, then you can start making you creation. If your in to designing graphics, then inkscape is definitely worth learning. Check out Help>Tutorials for a list of tutorials to start learning inkscape.
2. I dont think you can export it as a jpg, but I think a png will work (png is better IMO). This webpage suggests it is under the Export command, but I honestly dont know.
m_l wrote:Can you please redo bribin33's using solid black background? Also I think the one you made for brisbin33 will look even better with the XMonad logo a bit transparent, like what Taters did with the Haskell logo. I think whenever using the background brisbin33 provided, the foreground would look nicer transparent like I stated before. IMHO Now that I look at the logo you made for brisbin33 looks much better than the one with original XMonad colors. It's just that brisbin33 logo just fits better with the xmobar colors.
This is brisbin33's wallpaper with the logo opacity lowered to 70%.
I also made a version with the original xmonad color's, yet slightly transparent.
And a version using brisbin33's suggested colors with a black background.
m_l wrote:Out of these I like the second one, but the XMonad logo is just a bit big. If you could fit the XMonad logo in between the top part and until the slit near the middle, I think that would look nice but using brisbin33's logo.
Like so?
I think it looks a bit better like this:
Keep in mind that once I get the technical aspects of this right, I can change colors and add borders, or use the background pattern.

• The Archer: a simple-ish wallpaper

Made in GIMP, with the Archer logo resized in Inkscape. This is my first take on this, so I'm happy to hear suggestions or critiques. Ideally, I'd like to touch it up and post an updated version.

• Blue screen on Z10 during start up

Hi all,
I'm experiencing some issues with my sister's Z10. What I think has happened is that I was updating OS when it ran out of battery (yeah I know, but some friend took the charger to charge her phone and I didn't notice it...), and now the phone starts (Blackberry logo, blue logo loading) but shows a blue wallpaper without any apps on it, no actions possible.
So I've tried to wipe it through my computer, as it's recognizing the phone when I'm plugging it, but I'm always getting an error message stating that the phone steup is not finished and that I need to disconnect it to finish the setup. **bleep**, that's what I'm trying to do smartass! I've tried it through the BB link software and throufh internet explorer but I'm always getting error messages and I don't know what else I could do.
To make things easier the phone was bought in Dominic Republic and I'm french trying to unsimlock my phone and my sister's (my works fine, despite some unwanted reboots).
Help me please!
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I would try one of the autoloaders that has been leaked for upgrading the OS on the Z10.
The process is simple. Download the OS and unzip it using 7zip or similar. I think it downloads in a .rar format.
Close Link and plug in the device. Then run the .exe file that was extracted using the previous step. It should take about 5 minutes to load the OS.

• Blu-ray creation on Mac? Surely so....

I'll try to ask this in a very straight forward way - I'm not looking for any step by step instructions, just general advice, and links to any other appropriate and knowledgeable sites or articles will be greatly appreciated.
I'm using a recent, fast 27 in iMac (March 2010), core i7 processor with 8 gigs of ram, OSX 10.6.5. Currently having great success with CS4 versions of PPro and Encore, having good luck burning SD DVDs. Am shooting 720p footage with a Canon T2i, and have been able to produce nice looking down-sampled DVDs (thanks to reading other forum discussions on here on the topic, with a great link to an excellent tutorial specific to CS4 PPro.)
I just bought the CS5 upgrade to everything, but honestly am a little hesitant to install it just yet. I've been offered a "dirt simple" (I know - famous last words) video job for a client and think I should probably stay with a workflow that I know works. They only want a <10 min DVD that will continuously loop on a small LCD-TV at the back of a trade show booth - so my widescreen DVD process, down from 720p HD, works fine, even better than I expected.
But it makes me want to try to produce true Blu-rays disks, especially since I'm so impressed with what Canon DSLRs can shoot, and PPro handles the format so easily - I understand it does an even better job in CS5.
So here finally is my question(s) - I'm looking for an external Blu-ray burner that will connect to this iMac via Firewire, and can be written to by the Mac version of Encore, CS5. Surely this is all possible - right?? I've seen lots of internal units intended mainly for windows, and I think one possibly discontinued internal for Mac Pros.
So - is there such a beast - an external Firewire burner for Mac? And - will Encore CS5 for Mac be able to produce a simple Blu-ray disk (a simple menu with buttons, no extra features or 3d or anything extravagant)? And is Toast a better or lesser option? I do fully realize that OSX cannot play a Blu-ray disk, so I know I'll need a true Blu-ray player hooked up to an HDTV.
THANKS for any advice!

Any external Blu-ray burner should work on Mac. Talk to these people:
http://www.macsales.com/
I bought two external and two internal drives from them for my company's Macs. No drivers included or needed.
Regards,

• Blu-Ray disc freezes for half a second between chapters

I'm brand new to using Adobe for video editing. I just finished my first Encore CS6 project, it's been quite a learning experience. I have a 40 minute video with 18 chapters that I edited in Premiere Pro and exported for Blu-Ray as a single sequence. Encore still insisted on transcoding it, it was irritating to have to wait but it worked. I created a simple blu-ray menu with a chapter index with 10 items per page created from a chapter playlist. The first play is the first page of the menu, and each chapter plays sequentially. There are no end actions on any of the chapters, they are intended to play sequentially starting from any chapter selected in the menu. Encore said I have an oprhan timeline, but I don't see how, since it's my only time line and each chapter points to it.
I built a Blu-Ray disc and it works great except for a half a second freeze in audio and video as it plays through each chapter point. I built a DVD from the same project and it does not have this issue but its video is jerky during movement such as a scene where I'm panning the camera to follow an actor.
The export settings from permiere were:
1920x1080, 29.97 fps, upper
VBR, 2 pass, Target 25.00 Mbps, Max 30.00 Mbps
PCM, 48 kHz, Stereo
I found several threads that seemed to be similar to these issues going all the way back to Encore CS4, but I haven't found any solutions.
So to sumarize:
I have four issues in order of importance:
1. Blu-Ray freezing briefly as it plays through chapter points
2. DVD has jerky video in higher motion scenes
3. Transcoding what should already be Blu-Ray ready video
4. Orphaned timeline that doesn't seem to affect anything
Any suggestions?

I wanted to test a possible issue with the freezes, but never got to it. Sorry you did not get any responses.
The bluray should not freeze as you go through chapter points on a timeline. The fact that the timeline is an orphan is curious. You might post a screenshot of your flowchart.
What version of Premeire are you using to create the exported files?

• Blu Ray playback skipping even when not burned to disk (CS6)

I'm using encore to create a simple blu ray disc image from 5 separate video files each with 2 audio tracks (stereo and 5.1). all the encoding is being done via media encoder using the H.264-blu ray presets and compressor for the surround sound so encore is just assembling the iso. Once this is done it skips and hangs in every video even when played back through the computer without being burnt to disc (just mounted for testing). Watching the data rate it is jumping all over the place and when it hangs it often drops to 0 or less than 5Mbp/s
Am i missing a step or encoding it incorrectly or is this a common bug? I've been through a stack of discs working on this problem and any help would be appreciated as I need to deliver our films on DVD and Blu Ray imminently.
Cheers
Rich

ok about to do that now - just noticed that my timeline is displaying upside down and in greyscale in the monitor - now I'm really starting to think Encore is paying up!!

• Problems with blu-ray pop-up menus

I made the mistake of tacking this question/problem onto another similar post, so here it is again for some:
I got this error message near the end of the disc build:
Blu-ray Error: "fatal error". Code: "6", Note: "Graphics buffer underflows.
- Failed to multiplex with maximum IG PTS: 54900000 (in 90kHz).
The blu-ray project I am working on is an 87 min live concert with about 8 other much shorter timelines. The main menu has 6 buttons with a motion background. There are few submenus as well, but the problem came when I started making pop-up menus for the various timelines.
This is the first project where I really had to explore the possibliltes and limitations of Encore's pop-up menus. I burned a test disc with just a basic pop-up menu to see how the menu's opacity would look over the final video. All the video assets were set to to transcode "Automatically". All audio assets are blu-ray compliant Surround ac3's or 16-bit stereo WAV's so could be left as "Don't Transcode". This disc burned perfectly.
I then went through the pretty involved process of making a final version of the main pop-up menus. The main concert's pop-up menu has 5 pages (including page 0). There are specific pop-up menus for other timelines, but those have no more than 2 pages. None of the menus have more than 10 buttons.
I tried to burn the disc, and it came back with the error above. After reading some other posts, I thought it was worth a try to delete the AuthorScriptHDMVSessions folder before starting a new burn since it was already filled with files from my test burn. That didn't help.
Any insight or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

After countless tests and research, I finally have a successfully burned blu-ray with WORKING multi-page pop-up menus (that I am happy with). Thank you to all the people who gave theoretical guidance and suggestions in emails and other posts. There has been no shortage of oddities and obstacles to overcome when just trying to make a simple blu-ray. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to accurately pinpoint what was causing the original error message. The project just needed to get done.
The main pop-up menu has 4 pages, with 13 buttons on each page. Only about 5 - 9 of the "buttons" on each page are actual buttons that link anywhere. The other buttons on each page only serve as the remaining pieces of the menu's background and cannot be accessed on the final disc. Totally ridiculous way to make the backgrounds for pop-up menus, but it works.
Some of the other things I learned regarding pop-up menus + Encore misc:
1. If at all possible, totally create a menu .psd BEFORE bringing it into an Encore project. Make the button order in the .psd what you want it to end up being in the end (bottom layer is button 1). If you start editing and saving order after it has been brought in, Encore will almost always revert it back to some strange (possibly original) button order. You will spend all your time re-routing button navigation and changing their numbers, only to find out later that Encore has changed it all back without notice.
2. As many people state, it is best to have Encore do as little thinking as possible. All of my button groups originally had Text Layers within them with some fx applied. I merged each text layer down into that button's background layer to essentially rasterize the text with the fx applied. Each (+) button group therefore only had a higlight layer and a background layer. After doing this for all the buttons, the .psd file size was greatly reduced. Naturally I saved a copy before going through the merging process in case I ever had to go back and edit the text.
3. Originally the background for the pop-up menus were made from a rectangle cut-out of the background of the main menu. This was the width of the frame and around 1/5 of the height. I had changed the opacity to around 60%, and cut up the pieces to go with their respective buttons. For the final disc, I just made a shape with the Rounded Rectangle Tool, and filled it with a solid colour. It is probably only about half the size of the original pop-up menu's background. I changed its opacity as well, but then merged it with a blank layer so Encore didn't have to think about the opacity setting.
4. I encoded all the video elements BEFORE they were brought into the project. There are some issues with the way the file sizes are interpretted by Encore, but I won't trust it to encode anything again.
5. For some reason Encore wants to transcode 16-bit, 48.0 kHz .aiff files when making a blu-ray, but 16-bit, 48.0 kHz .wav files do NOT need trancoding (for both dvds and blu-rays).
