A2109 HDMI resolution

I just got a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable and a HDMI-DVI adapter. I've hook the tablet up to two different monitors and I'm getting the same result: The resolution being output is 640x480. One of the monitors is 1280x1024 and the other is 1600x900. I though, at the very least, the 1280x1024 monitor would get the same display with gaps on the top and bottom, as it matches the tablet's display resolution. I reupgraded to JB to see if it worked better there, but it's the same. Is there a way to force a resolution?

I beleive you are both partially correct. I tried this cable on a 1080p capable TV with HDMI, and only got 720p output, unless I played a 1080p video with MXPlayer and had the 'force 1080p mode for videos' option enabled in the OS settings. I then tried it with a 1080p capable monitor with the DVI adapter, and got the same output. It's worth noting that the monitor also had HDMI input, and it acted the same.
It seems these lower-resolution monitors do not have the capability of reporting their resolutions to the tablet, so it drops to the lowest resolution in can output. HDMI and DVI carry the same signals, except for audio being absent from DVI.
Now, I understand that the display on the tablet is, more-or-less, 720p, but the processor being as powerful as it is, why isn't it outputting 1080p in the launcher or in any apps?

Just bought a new Mac Mini. I hooked it up to the mini-dvi to dvi cable. I then connected that dvi-to-hdmi and hooked it up to my 42" LG TV. I started configuring it for HDMI resolution. It chops the border of the screen off.
I called Apple and they told me it would only work in 1024x768 resolution. It does work fine like that. But I have an HDMI TV that works fine with my AppleTV. I can't believe that the MacMini would have difficulty.
Are there any ways of fixing this to use 720p? Is there a 3rd Party app or something I can use or just hand-jam some settings somewhere? Thanks.

There are lots of posts in this section that will help you. It would be best if you read them yourself. A couple of suggestions, however:
Do a search on "overscan", that will help you see the entire finder and menus.
Do a search on "SwitchResX", which may be your last resort if there's nothing you can do in your TV menu system.

Macbook Pro 15" Retina Windows 7 HDMI Resolution issue

I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15" with Retina display running bootcamp with Windows 7.
I have connected the Macbook to an external HP w2448hc display using HDMI interface.
When booting to OS X 10.9.4, the resolution of the external display is set to 1920x1200 and it looks fine. See picture below:
However, when booting to Windows 7 the resolution on the external display looks lower (although shows up as 1920x1200):
I have another PC which I have connected to the same display with HDMI and the resolution also shows up as 1920x1200. However, in this case the resolution indeed looks as the correct one:
Although not seen very well from the screen shots, both the PC and the Macbook Pro (with Windows 7) show the same resolution in the settings, but the desktop and icons under Macbook Pro (bootcamp) look bigger and with smaller resolution.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

I managed to fix this resolution issue by lowering the color depth to 16bit for the external display. Not exactly sure why was this necessary, maybe for some reason Windows cannot allocate enough video memory for both displays?

Thunderbolt to HDMI resolution on Samsung monitor

I recently got a Kanex iAdapt Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and an Amazon HDMI cable to hook up my MBP to a Samsung notebook.
I am getting a picture on my monitor (I saw on the boards that the most commom problem was not getting any picture at all), it's just not setup right. The resolution looks weird and it's really hard on the eyes.
I've tried all resolutions System Preferences give me (1080p, 1080i, 1600x900, 1344x1008, etc) and it's still not looking right.
Does anybody know what might help this issue?
Ps.: The monitor I'm using is the Samsung SyncMaster P2270HN

I'm having a similar problem with a client's mid 2011 17" MBP i7 with thunderbolt connection and a Samsung P2770FH.
I'm using a mini-display-to-HDMI cable to go from the thunderbolt port on the 2011 17" MBP to the HDMI input on the back of the monitor. The monitor works fine in 720p, but in 1080i it is blurry and in 1080p the bottom 2/3 of the screen flickers and goes all snowy every few seconds.
The weird thing is my 2009 15" MBP Intel Core 2 Duo with a Mini-Display port works just fine in 1080p. Everything is clear and crispy just that way you would expect. So it isn't the monitor, and it isn't the cable. It sounds like it is at best a driver issue with sending a Display-port signal via a Thunderbolt port, but at worst it could be that there needs to be a new controller for the Thunderbolt port hardware.
Here's a post about it in more detail. It talks about the Apple Thunderbolt Display not the MBP, but I think the reason for the trouble could be the same. I don't know, I have to do more research on the topic.

[Solved] A75A-G35 gives no video signal over HDMI, resolution over DVI limited

Hello community,
following problem: I have been using my A75A-G35 board with an A4-3400 Llano APU, the APU has been connected to a 19" BenQ FP91GP monitor via a DVI cable. I got its maximum resolution of 1280x1024 with no issues.
Now I have purchased a 24" Dell U2415 monitor with a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 and wanted to connect it to my computer. However, I got stuck:
1. I get no signal whatsoever using the HDMI output and a HDMI>HDMI cable. I have tested a different computer and connected it to the Dell with the same cable successfully, so the cable and the monitor should be fine.
edit: Disregard the following as the problem with the DVI cable appears also with the other computer. The problem is therefore just the fact that the HDMI output of the board doesn't work!
2. I get a signal with a DVI>DVI cable + DVI>HDMI adapter. I can access the BIOS, the boot manager and see the boot screen, however once the desktop should be displayed the screens turns black and the monitor keeps switching to standby and back on again, the screen staying black all the time, however. But before installing the driver package (for chipset and video, downloaded from the MSI website), I could see the desktop with a resolution of 800x600. Also, if I boot into safe mode, I can see the desktop and increase the resolution up to 1280x1024. Higher resolutions up to 1600x1200 are available, however selecting any of them results in severe screen flickering.
3. If I boot my Linux install, I have almost the same behaviour. I see the boot messages but then the screen turns black when the desktop should appear. However, if I connect the old BenQ monitor to the VGA port, I get a signal on both screens, however both screens have the resolution 1280x1024 and I cannot increase the resolution of the Dell, because if I try to, the screen turns black again. Lower resolutions than 1280x1024 are possible, though. Note that the "second monitor trick" does only work with Linux, with Windows I get only a black screen on both monitors.
As a side note, the DVI cable I'm using is a DVI-D single link, so the maximum resolution it supports is actually exactly the resolution of the Dell, 1920x1200.

when you said your problem and the symptoms I thought that board sounded familiar as alot of people when it first came out that we had to explain that to them so I had a look and yes it had the jumpers to switch ports for its digital display display signal to be routed to another port so i thought that was the cause!

Macbookpro dvi-hdmi resolution

I have a dvi to hdmi connection and I connect it to my tv, now the picture only takes a small bit of my actual laptop screen. the tv is 1920x1020, so i set it to that on the laptop and the macbook as its usual size but as I said the tv only picks up a small area of my macbook screen.
can anyone help?
also, how can i set the screen not to sleep or dim when i am running a program that i dont necessarily have to touch to operate.

The MacBook Pro is connected to a Sony Bravia KDL-40S2000's "PC IN" port.
Here are more details:
If I use a DVI-to-HDMI connection, OS X identifies the display as "KDL-40S2000" and I get the following resolutions:
1920 x 1080 (1080i but with black side borders)
1280 x 720 (720p, perfect fit)
However with an HDMI connection, the picture quality is overly sharp. I can see jaggies and occasional artifacts in movies. Some letters on the desktop are not that readable. This leads me to believe that this TV is not ready for a DVI-to-HDMI connection. (HDMI to HDMI connection from my Samsung DVD player is fantastic though.)
Now, if I use a DVI-to-RGB connection (thanks to the adapter included with the MBP plus an old monitor's cable), OS X identifies the display as "Sony TV" and I get the following resolution:
1360x768
It's a perfect fit. The picture quality is perfect. Screen fonts and other graphical elements have perfect edges and very readable. In other words, my TV has become this huge LCD monitor.
So at least for this Sony-Apple pair, analog quality is much, much better and is the recommended connection.

DVI, HDMI resolutions supported in MBP

What should I look for when buying new LCD monitor/tv to connect to MBP? Uncertain about resolutions supported. I have ATI Mobility Radeon X1600. I am looking at Samsung with 1080p, 1920x1200. Will this work and do I use DVI or HDMI connections?

Where possible I'd go with an HDMI connection, as long as your Samsung does true 1080p resolution 1920x1200 will be fine (and is supported). ((Some things advertised as HD aren't truly 1080))

Satellite L850/0C9 and HDMI resolutions

Hi all.
Ive recently purchased a L850/0C9 and I can't get the HDMI to output at 1360x768 which is my panels native resolution.
Using a vga cable I can output to 1360x768 just not with HDMI
Any ideas?

From my understanding not all resolution might be supported by graphic card or graphic chip so this might be one of the reasons
If display driver cause this, then an update should be performed.

Setting default HDMI resolution on 22bw

I'm using a pavlillion 22bw as a montior for a Blackmagic Atem 1 Television Studio Switcher. I'm connecting my 22bw via an HDMI cable. Trouble is, When I turn on the ATEM, the image is larger than the the screen. An error pops up that says "Input Signal Larger thans screen Reccomended resolution is 1920 by 1080 60hz.
My atem error pop up says my current resolution is H=34khz V=60hz.
How can make this monitor's hdmi input default to 1920 X 1080 pr stop over-scanning or something?
I've tried everything..

R9 280X Max HDMI Resolution?

I have ordered an MSI R9 280X GAMING 3G card to run a 4K TV as a monitor at 3840x2160. I thought all of the R9 280X cards were able to output this 4K 3840x2160 resolution on the HDMI port. But, based on the specifications list on MSI's website for this card the max resolution is 2560x1600. Which is correct?

In addition to whst Zyriab said, I would ask whether you are using the extended desktop mode or mirroring. Mirroring almost always involves compromising the resolution of one screen or the other.

HDMI Resolution Reverts to Auto on Power Cycle

Hi All,
I've been setting up 3 Apple TVs where I need to set the resolution of the devices to 720p @ 50Hz. This works fine, until I power cycle the unit, at which point it reverts to Auto and due to EDID sets the resolution to 1080p which is giving me problems with the HDMI over Cat5 baluns I am using over long distance. This happens on all of the 3 units.
All 3 of the units are running the latest software, and I am not sure how to resolve this. Does anyone have any ideas? Sorry if this has been asked before, I had a search and couldn't find anything.

[SOLVED] HDMI resolution and Radeon HD 4250

I am a noob to Arch. Iam sorry in advance for my ignorance. I have searched for a week on the wiki and forums and then gone back and re-read everything I have found. The answer is still eluding me. I am trying to connect my laptop to my tv through hdmi. I figured out the sound on my own, that was easy. I can't however get the native resolution for the tv. I have used xrandr and cvt as in the wiki. I have messed with a xorg.conf yet because it seems a bit confusing, but again, I'm a noob. Coming from ubuntu and that unity thing that just, well, anyway.
basically this is what i have done:
cvt 1366 768
xrandr --newmode "1368x768_60.00" 85.25 1368 1440 1576 1784 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode HDMI-0 1366x768
xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 1366x768
and I get format not supported on my tv screen and yet that is the native resolution on the tv.

So I solved this myself last night, however, it seems I was so caught up in trying to get the native resolution of my tv detected I did not realize that my sound is still not fuctional (I had it working in gnome 3, but i decided to switch to kde and kmix recognizes that there is hdmi but includes no channels for control of the volmue). so any way...
i solution to getting 1366x768 resolution through hdmi is: apparently 1366x768 is not a recognized mode which is why cvt gives the modeline for 1368x768; however, I 1360x768 is recognized (which I think is a fair comprimize). It looks decent on my setup anyway. So for anyone who actually has their hdmi sound working here is the solution:
$ cvt 1360 768
# 1360x768 59.80 Hz (CVT) hsync: 47.72 kHz; pclk: 84.75 MHz
Modeline "1360x768_60.00" 84.75 1360 1432 1568 1776 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync
then take the modeline and create a new mode using xrandr as such:
$ xrandr --newmode "1360x768_60.00" 84.75 1360 1432 1568 1776 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync
then add the newcode to HDMI-0 as such making sure you replace "0" in HDMI-0 with the number of the HDMI port you are planning to use:
$xrandr --addmode HDMI-0 1360x768_60.00
then change your output to this resolution via:
xrandr --output HDMi-0 --mode 1360x768_60.00
If anyone knows who to get the proper channels in kmix to control hdmi sound please let me know. Otherwise I am going to switch vga and headphone out jack for now. Thanks.

Add firmware update to increase resolution to 4K

I would like to see a new firmware update that would increase my WDTV Live HUB's HDMI resolution to 4K and update codecs by adding new H.265 codec for HD and 4K/UHD resolutions.

Won't happen. HEVC support can not be added by way of a firmware upgrade.

Satellite A660-1FM - Max. screen resolution of external monitor

Hi All,
This may be (probably) an easy questions to answer but I have a Satellite A660-1FM and want to use it with my Samsung Syncmaster (forgotten model) external screen. I grabbed an HDMI->DVI-D adapter, and all is well, but here is my question:
The toshiba specs page for my laptop (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A660-1FM/1096013/toshibaShop/false/) shows an external resolution capability of:
Max Resolution : 2,048 x 1,536
Max Refresh Rate : 100 Hz
Non-interlaced resolution with max refresh rate : 1,920 x 1,200
But I get what I call standard HDMI resolution (not surprising I guess) when connected HDMI->DVI-D to my external monitor. I have previously run this monitor on my desktop at much high resolutions than 1080P, so the monitor is capable.
Just wondered what I'm missing here, or is it a case of the graphics card spec is higher than is possible to output from the laptop ?

As to native resolution of the external monitor - unsure how to find this - but it was running a with a lot higher res when it was connected to my old desktop (which has died and been replaced by this laptop)
R/E the adapter - My Samsung Syncmaster monitor has a DVI-D cable sticking out the back of it, so I needed to connect that to my laptop - either vga-> DVI-D or HDMI-DVI-D to make use of it.
The external monitor is currently running at 1680 x 1050 using the laptop HDMI output -> HDMI-DVI-D adapater -> external monitor.
Before my desktop died, using the same external monitor I was running at 1680 x (guessing a bit here) 2048 ish (really sure I had a greater y res, this 1050 lark is really squishy).. in any case, the Y resolution was much much much better than 1050.
But, according to the specification for this laptop, it can output 2048 x 1536 to an external device (How, the HDMI and VGA outptu cannot go that high right ?)
So, I'm trying to figure out how to get the resolution on the laptop spec onto my external monitior, which has more than handled this resolution before my old gaming desktop died.
