A215 Satelite. Plugged in headphones. Now no sound at all

I had sound for years. Today I plugged in headphones for the first time. Seems like I heard a faint static. However, no other sound.
I unplugged the earphones, and now my internal speakers do not produce any sound, except when I reboot. I hear 2 or 3 popping sounds before my laptop even loads windows.
I have disabled/ re-enabled onboard sound, tried plugging/unplugging earhone jack repeatedly, updated to latest Realtek drivers, and updated BIOS to version 2.0. I have also taken battery and ac power out, then held power button 30+ seconds. Still no sound except for pops.
Anyone have any ideas?

Yea. I definitely checked that. Can't find anything muted or out of the ordinary.

  • TA24826 After plugging in an external speaker, now no sound at all anywhere

I plugged in an external speaker and it never worked. When I went back to using the internal speakers, they stopped workig. What to do?

Could be the Jack inards never closed, insert it afain & jiggle a bit.
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • ZxR Plugged in Headphones to ACM - Now No Speaker Sound!

    It never ends!
I plugged in my Sennheiser 350 headphones into the ACM to see how they would sound. My Klipsch Pro-Media 2.1 speakers are now silent. I unplugged the headphones and the speakers are still silent. I rebooted the computer, checked the Control panel (Sound Blaster and Windows), checked the Volume Control...everything I can think of. The control panels show activity when I'm playing sounds but I hear nothing.
I plugged the headphones back in and the volume is weak even when the ACM knob is turned all the way up.
I have no idea what's going on.
    This sucks.

The "issue" you posted is not really an issue. It is simply a fact of how the product works. I used the Xonar Phoebus and it worked in exactly the same manner.
Think of it as using a microphone that has a mute toggle switch on its length. If you flick the analog switch, the mic no longer provides input for the sound card, the sound card's software control panel for the microphone does not mute itself.
Thanks for the info. My third post was written while you were writing yours.
I was so focused on the ACM I did not try plugging the headphones into the jack on my speakers. The speakers auto-muted and when I unplugged the phones the sound to the speakers was restored. So this is all a misunderstanding on my part.
Not sure why the sound I mentioned previously was skewed but resetting to default cleared that up.

  • Headphones are plugged into mini iPad but sound still coming from speakers

When I was given this as a gift for Christmas, headphones worked great. Now it doesn't matter if headphones are plugged in or not the sound still comes out of the speakers. I made sure the headphones were in correctly and I've even plugged in different headphones. Is anyone having this problem?
Do I need to take it back?

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be on here saying they tried many different headphones and not getting it fixed if they didn't push it in all the way.  Have you tried resetting your iPad and trying again? To reset it, press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake button till you see the Apple on the screen and the iPad will reset.  After doing that, try again.

  • When I plug my headphones in the my laptop I still have sound from my speakers and headphones

Hello, I'm having trouble with the sound on
my laptop and it's only just started to happen.
When I plug my headphones in the my laptop my speakers don't get muted, So I
have sound from my speakers and headphones at the same time.
I've reinstalled the drivers and this didn't work, So I'll hoping you can help me.
HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC, Product number A8M62EA Windows 7 64-bit

Here's the trick (and it's been verified on 3 other Win 7 systems):
    1) R click on your speaker icon, select 'Recording Devices' (if you have the sounds dialog up, it's the 2nd tab 'Recording')
    2) R click in the white space, be sure that BOTH "show disabled devices" AND "show disconnected devices" are checked.
    3) **Now this step is going to take a little bit of thought for each computer being used: on my laptop (HP Elitebook) I get a device "Stereo Mix", ENABLE this device.
    4) Click on Properties, go to the tab 'Listen'
    5) Check the box "Listen to this device", also change the drop-down box below "Playback through this device" to be your second audio device
-- To verify that you've done this correctly, go back to the Sound dialog tab Playback, you should now see both of your audio devices showing the little green graphs moving.
Here are the specific settings that I have on my laptop, maybe this will help with your settings:
    Speakers- GN9350 (Default Communications Device)
Speakers- SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio (Default Device)
Stereo Mix- 'Listen' feature points this  device to my GN9350 headset.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Sound stops working, 3 seconds after plugging in headphones

I have a strange issue on my phone where the sound stops working after about 3 seconds (consistently), after plugging in headphones.
I have the latest software update and I don't have any special sound modifying apps. No software I've installed ruined this, it has worked fine before, until about two weeks ago. I've also dust-cleaned the headphone jack.
Without headphones, the sound works great.
Here's an example of what happens
    1. I start a video on YouTube / play a song / start a call with someone / start a game
    2. The sound works well, nothing is strange at all
    3. I plug in my headphones
    4. The sound now works in the headphones
    5. About 3 seconds later, the sound stops working completely, in all the cases above
    6. The sound never returns, until I unplug my headphones
I'm clueless as to what could be causing this. Does anyone have any idea?

I've tried that, but it doesn't work
It seems like a software/firmware issue, since the 3 seconds of working is 100% the same every time

    Michael,
Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &
    Best regards,

  • TS1205 I try to turn up the sound and nothing shows up on the screen like when I play music nothing comes out of the speaker if I plug my headphones in it works but if I take them out no sound comes out

No sound is coming out of the built in iPhone speaker I try turning it up and nothing shows up on the screen if I plug my headphones in and try to turn it up it will show headphones in Middle of me turning it up or down but if I unplug them and try it doesn't work

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".

  • Sound on my iPhone 4 , turns really low when I plug in my headphones or a device then turns back to normal when I plug the headphones/device back out , tried turning off , using the troubleshoot turn off and shouting at it please help

The sound on my iPhone is perfect until I plug in speakers or headphones
Then the sound halves and won't turn all the way up, when I do turn it up the
Sound just switches off till I turn it back down low to wear it works ,
When I unplug headphones/device sound returns to normal

Normally, an iPhone will remember what you had your volume set to right before you unplugged your headphones last and set the volume back to that when you plug them in again. Do you have a habit of tuning your volume down before unplugging?

My balance sounds horrible when is at the center ... it only happen when I plug my Headphones... if I move the balance to the left/right i have a mono sound in my headphones left/right

I too am experiencing this issue after upgrading to Mavericks. Headphone audio balance seems to always stick to the far right. When moved to the center, it still only outputs sound to the right side. I have to constantly adjust the setting a little to the left of center for both sides to output sound equally.

I am getting no sound on my macbook pro. The sound does not play when I plug in headphones either.  I have tried making it louder quieter, restarting my computer, HELP!

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
    3. If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Reboot and test.
    9. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    10. Reset the NVRAM.
    11. Reset the SMC.
    12. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
    13. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

when i make calls, all i can hear is static, and when i plug in headphones or turn the speaker on, it still doesnt work. but facetime, music, an apps sound still work. help? iphone 5

    Hello Delaney1130,
It sounds like you are getting static on both the receiver and the speaker when you make a call. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve the issue named:
iPhone: Troubleshooting issues making or receiving calls
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS3406
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
    Check your phone settings:
Check your Do Not Disturb settings: Tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
Check for any blocked phone numbers: Tap Settings > Phone > Blocked.
See if Call Forwarding is turned on: Tap Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding.
Ensure that your software is up to date:
Check for a carrier settings update.
Check for an iOS software update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
If the iPhone has a SIM card, reseat the SIM card.
If the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s is on the Verizon network, dial *228 from the iPhone and select option 2 to update the Preferred Roaming List (PRL). The PRL determines the cellular towers the phone uses for cellular service, selecting those with the best signal strength.
Reset the network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Try to make or receive calls in another location.
Attempt to isolate to one network band:
If you're having the issue on LTE, disable LTE, if possible, and try again.
If you're having the issue on 3G/4G, disable 3G/4G, if possible, and try again.
Contact the carrier to check the following:
Your account is properly configured to use the specific iPhone that has the issue.
There are no localized service outages.
    Your account doesn't have a billing-related block.
Your calls don't have errors on the carrier system.
    Restore the phone as new.
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, go to an Apple Retail Store, carrier, Apple Authorized Reseller, or contact AppleCare to send the phone in for service.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • I've updated my ipad to iso7 now the sound is distorted through the speaker and headphones, it is unusable! Is anyone else having this problem?

I've updated my ipad to iso7 now the sound is distorted through the speaker and headphones, it is unusable! I wouldn't dare to update my iphone. Is anyone else having this problem? Can't seem to find any fixes online?

    A reset should fix it:
Double click the Home button. Slide up with one finger on ALL your apps to close them.
Then, Press the Sleep/Wake button + Home button and hold 15 seconds or until you see the Apple logo.
This will reset your device without erasing data, apps or settings.

  • When I plug in headphones no sound through headphones,  but can hear music through ipod.

I plug in my headphones and no sound comes through the headphones, but can hear music from the ipod. Anyone  have any solutions?

If you truly own an iPod classic, I'm not exactly sure how music can be heard playing from it, since it doesn't have an external speaker.
Have you tried a hard reset yet?  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
It might not hurt to try a different set of headphones as well.
The last resort is to restore the iPod to factory settings via iTunes and if the issue still persists, it's likely a hardware problem with the headphone jack.
