ABAP Courses in the ACM Professional Development Centre

The Association for Computing Machinery offers four ABAP courses in their Professional Development Centre (http://pd.acm.org/netg_listing.cfm).  See the section "SAP Development & Reporting."
"ABAP Web Application Server Development"
"ABAP 6.10 Overview"
"ABAP Reporting 6.10"
"ABAP Objects 6.10 Overview "
If you have tried these courses, what did you think of them?

Use of the Professional Development Centre requires membership in the ACM.  Therefore you are correct, you must pay for ACM membership to access the courses.
Let me know what you think when you are done.  I had the opposite reaction to the "ABAP 6.10 Overview" course.  It seems the Overview is well named and that is gives a nice high level introduction to ABAP, but that it is not detailed enough to get someone programming new ABAP without additional materials or training.

  • The Performance of Developer Server ??

    Hi:
    In August, Rajs asked: Is WebForms only for Intranet and NOT
    Internet?
    Now, I need urgently answers and details for this question, the
    situation is same in my work. Rajs wrote:
    I have deployed a Developer 6.0 application on the web

    On a 128 MBPs Internet line The time to access www.yahoo.com was
    around 5 seconds. The time taken to download the Employee
    Details Applet was around 6 minutes. This is certainly not
    acceptable.
    I want to prove that Developer WebForms is also deployable and
    can be used on the Internet as well as the Intranet. I was sadly
    disappointed.
    I have not tweaked any parameters on the Application Server. So
    it is possible I am missing something.Can anybody please comment on this?

    Accessing external Databases with RFC-based middleware is Ok, but the best performance you usually get by accessing the external database directly from within the SAP ABAP server with the "DB multiconnect" feature. This allows ABAP programs to read and write to others than the primary database. ABAP knowledge is of cause required.
    SAP has several products that use this feature and that may already fit your needs, e.g. BI (also known as BW) and SCM (also known as APO).

  • Advantages of Webdynpro ABAP Over Displaying The Traditional Way in SAP GUI

    Hi,
    I am new to web dynpro ABAP and therefore have a very basic question.
    Assume that a customer wants to implement SAP EEC 6.0.
    What is the advantage for the customer and developer to develop and display all custom objects using web dynpro abap and displaying on the web as against developing and displaying in the SAP GUI?
    Is it possible to do a BDC using Web Dynpro ABAP?
    Inputs would be much appreciated.
    Cheers,

  • ABAP Stack and the Enterprise Portal

    If you install the Java and ABAP stack with the portal can you do full ABAP development on the portal?
    I want to create a RFC that writes data to a ZTABLE  - on the portal.
    I would then send the data from the ZTABLE using a RFC connection between the portal and my backend system.
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Hello Patrick,
    yes you can do ABAP development on an ABAP-Stack of the portal Server.
    I also use the "ABAP Stack" for Mobile-Infrastructure.
    Creating a Z-Table and executing RFC's is no problem.
    I think you will only use the ABAP-Stack for Customer-Development,so you only need to install the Basis Components and Plug-Ins on the ABAP-Stack.

  • SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.02 SP6 64-bit Developer Version

    When I downloaded the "SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.02 SP6 64-bit Developer Version" I only got the Trial Version, so I have a license (from sap.com/minisap) that will expire. Where can I get the Developer Version license?

    The trial version is for you to test and evaluate the software. It will expire after 120 (30+90) days. I donu2019t think you can get a permanent license.

  • SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit - Developer Edition

    Hi,
    I'm using SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit - Developer Edition on which I have installed the License Key (using http://www.sap.com/minisap page). On this system I'm trying to install the BI Content 7.04, but I have some problems because I still get "no valid maintenance certificate found for system".
    Is it possible to install the package on the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit ? What do I have to do to install this package?
    I have installed the maintenance license (using SLICENSE). The is from http://www.sap.com/minisap page. After installing the new license, the status it is a green square which indicate that the licenses it is OK.
    After installing the maintenance licenses do I need to do something ?

    I dont know about the developer version which sap has shared but after the application of maintainence certificate you need to install that add on using saint.Thanks.

    Hi,
    if you're in the US, you can explicitly ask for any course to be schduled for any of these BFC courses here:
    [https://www.sap.com/usa/services/education/request.epx|https://www.sap.com/usa/services/education/request.epx].
    You can then request for a schedule for any of the courses in the BFC Curriculum (to be found here:
    http://www.sap.com/services/education/catalog/businessobjectstraining/epm/curriculum.epx?context=%5b%5bBOBJ_FPM_FC%5d%5d%7c)
    I hope this helps,

    There should be a National Instruments Software in the Programs and Features.  You can uninstall NI products with that.

  • ModuleData.getPrincipalData returns null in the adapter module development

    Hi gurus,
    i am doing a test on the adapter module development following an article written by William Li:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f0ac06cf-6ee2-2c10-df98-e17430ca5949?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true
    my problem is after the EJB has been deployed, it seems that the return of inputModuleData.getPrincipalData() is always null which makes the program can not get the xml payload from the framework.
    the main process of the example has been simplified like this:
         public ModuleData process(ModuleContext moduleContext, ModuleData inputModuleData) throws ModuleException {
              Object           obj = null;
              try {
              obj = inputModuleData.getPrincipalData();
              Message     msg1 = (Message) obj;
                    XMLPayload xmlpayload = msg1.getDocument();}
              catch (Exception e) {
                   ModuleException me = new ModuleException(e);
                   throw me;
              return inputModuleData;
    after deployed, i get the following error in the adapter monitor of RWB: (my JNDI is testtest)
    17.02.2012 17:13:44.643 Information Send binary file  "test8.xml" from FTP server "10.18.48.150:/encrypt_test/", size 206 bytes with QoS EO

    whereas if the code has been changed like this:
         public ModuleData process(ModuleContext moduleContext, ModuleData inputModuleData) throws ModuleException {
              Object           obj = null;
              try {
                   obj = inputModuleData.getPrincipalData();
                   Message     msg1 = (Message) obj;
                   if (obj != null )
                        XMLPayload xmlpayload = msg1.getDocument();
              catch (Exception e) {
                   ModuleException me = new ModuleException(e);
                   throw me;
              return inputModuleData;
    the file can be read by the file adapter.
    i just quite confused that why the return of the getPrincipalData() is null? where is the problem? thanks
    Edited by: Stephen Xue on Feb 17, 2012 5:22 AM

    I'm gonna reply to myself here. I changed the processing sequence of the adapter modules in the  in the FileSender channel so that my module comes first then CallSapAdapter. Then getPrincipalData() contains the message.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • Use of ABAP expression in the Send Mail Header and Text

    Hi Workflow Gurus,
    I have a requirement wherein I have to inform the Manager of a user that his/her request for leave availment has been approved. However, we need to show the users name for the Manager to easily identify the user.
    Now, I checked the send mail step and it is possible to insert an expression, but the available expressions are confined within the containers available. Hence, we only have the user id of the workflow initiator.
    Is there a way to place a code in the send mail expression which will determine the user's employee name given the user id as opposed to having to create an FM and a method to determine the users name? Or is the only recourse to develop and fm and a method to determine these details in the background and pass it to the containers for extraction?
    Regards,

    If you don't have for example the employee name in the available container elements, you need to add it and do the necessary coding/development for it. Classically employee or user data has been retrieved by using a certain standard background task to get the user/employee object based on the user ID. This will require an additional background step but no coding since the task includes the coding already.
    It is anyhow possible to try to get the data for example with functional methods by using container operations  in the workflow (or it is also possible to do this in binding too) - but then you need to develop a functional method(s). In other words you can use a functional method for example in your binding or in a container operation. Check for example Jocelyn Dart's blog about functional methods. Anyhow, how well the functional methods will work depends on the SAP system version.

    Karri
