ABAP Documentation Generation, Javadoc-like

Hello everyone,
I've got one topic to discuss that I do not find very much information about on SCN. It's about documentation. and I don't mean SAP documentation like help.sap.com, but the documentation about the software we (=developers) are producing by writing ABAP-code. That thing that we tend to neglect.
So is there any tool that is similar to [Javadoc|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javadoc], something like a ABAP Documentation Generator? A tool that generates a code-based documentation out of the source-code comments? As far as I know, there is no such functionality in the ABAP workbench. The only community project I found was ABAP Docs, but that seems to be inactive and is not even accessibly online.
How do you document your software? Do you use external tools, anything that is integrated into the SAP system? Or is it a completely segregated solution like we use in my company (Word)? What strategies do you use to create Architecture Documentation, Technical Documentation and End User Documentation?
It seems to me that there are lots of software solutions that can create modern documentation including different formats, layout templates, guidelines etc. But I haven't found anything related to ABAP development. Maybe the best example is Wikipedias [Comparison of documentation generators|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_documentation_generators]. Just search for ABAP.
I am looking forward to read about your experiences in documenting ABAP software!

Surprisingly (more or less) the list has no entry for a tool that supports ABAP, that was my point.
In the [Language support|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_documentation_generators#Language_support] table there is an Any With Comments column. Looking at the examples for [Natural Docs|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_Docs] and [ROBODoc|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROBODoc], they might work for ABAP too. YMMV
Hope this helps,
Rossen

  • ABAP Documentation Template

    Dear all,
We're going to standardize the ABAP documentaion format. Current ABAP documentation template at SE38 Documentation is as follows:
    Purpose
    Integration
    Prerequsite
    Features
    Selection
    Standard_Variant
    Output
    Activities
    Example
However, we would like to create our own documentation template, such as Prog_ID, Programmer, Responsible_BY, etc.
How to modify the default documentation template? We've tried SE61 but don't know where to start at.
    Regards,
    Thomas

Yes, we know that we can create custom heading. But we would like to get the template loaded when programmer type in the documentation. So they don't need to type the custom heading again.
We just found that using SE61 with document class "General Text" and Name "TEMPLATE_RE" stores the ABAP documentation template.
Any one familiar with SE61 changes? Any tips or suggestion on modifying setting there?

  • Possible to view graphics in ABAP documentation without printing?

I have uploaded a bitmap to the document server and included it in the documentation of my component (an interface, in this case), for which the ABAP workbench generates the statement
BITMAP 'BO_VSAB' OBJECT GRAPHICS ID BMAP TYPE BCOL DPI 300
The picture is displayed in the print preview, and also prints alright.  I'd prefer to see it without printing, though, while simply viewing the documentation online. Is there a trick to achieve that, for example by using a different form than the standard S_DOCU_SHOW, or whatever?
    -- Sebastian

Quite honestly, so far I've never seen any ABAP documentation with images. I kind of doubt it is feasible because the thingy that displays documentation most likely doesn't have any capability of displaying graphics. I'm guessing there is simply no container or screen element for that.
I'm affraid you'll have to create your own screen to achieve this.

  • Problems in ABAP Proxy Generation

    Hi All,
I tried to generate an ABAP proxy for outbound message interface "Interface_ABC", which is under software component "DEF".
In our development system, I had successfully created ordinary function modules and structures under the package "/XYZ/UVW" using the prefix "/XYZ/".
When I began the proxy generation, the system asked me to specify the package and prefix. So I specified the package to be "/XYZ/UVW" and prefix to be "/XYZ/".
Then a warning window pops up. It reads "Package /XYZ/UVW does not belong to DEF". I clicked "OK". The "Create Proxy" screen shows up. Then I clicked the "Save" button. This time an error window pops up. It reads "Cannot extend package /XYZ/UVW". The action is thus cancelled by the system.
Does anybody know what is the reason for this problem and how to solve it?
    Best Regards
    Jerome

Please check the properties of the package in which you are tyring to save the PROXY.
In your case it looks like the property PACKAGE NOT EXTENDABLE is switched on. Once you uncheck you should be able to save the proxy in that package.
    Regards,
    Ravi

  • Javadoc like tool for PL SQL

    Hi ,
Is there any document generator tool for PL/SQL.
    Thanks in advance.

Is anyone currently using NaturalDocs for PL/SQL documentation?
    http://www.naturaldocs.org/
It seems to be about the only project out there that is still being maintained and expanded. The downside is that NaturalDocs does not currently read javadoc-type comments for PL/SQL code (looks like a long while before it will), rather you need use the NaturalDoc-style of comments.
However the resulting documentation is quite nice looking (compared to pldoc):
    http://www.naturaldocs.org/documentation/html/files/NaturalDocs-.html
Some larger projects such as OpenLayers use this:
    http://dev.openlayers.org/releases/OpenLayers-2.7/doc/apidocs/files/OpenLayers-js.html
but nothing I could find anywhere actually showed PL/SQL code in the documentation.
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Poor documentation on JavaDoc

I've been messing with JavaDoc for hours, and I'm not getting far with it. When I look at the J2SDK API, there is lots documented in the JavaDoc. However, when I make my javadoc comments and generate my javadocs, there are things missing. Some stuff works, but not others. For example, I can comment a method, and that shows up in the javadoc. However, I cannot comment the class and get that to show up, like the version info, copyright statement, etc.
I know you just have to have the right tags, and in the right order I guess, but the JavaDoc Tool Homepage stinks. If anyone can give me an example of a java source file that uses ALL of the important JavaDoc tags, the duke dollars are yours.
The JavaDoc tool homepage shows some stuff, and explains, but there are no examples, please help.

The @author, @version and @see tags all require arguments.
That's why you're not seeing anything in the output.

           * the right and bottom edges compared to filling a figure that is
           * bounded by that same rectangle.
           * Also, drawing a horizontal line along the same y coordinate as
           * the baseline of a line of text will draw the line entirely below
           * the text except for any descenders.
           * Both of these properties are due to the pen hanging down and to
           * the right from the path that it traverses.

  • Error in ABAP Proxy generation?

    hai pals,
my intention is to push the data from XI to SAPBWSEM system throgh an ABAP PROXY.
but , here i got an error which i already mentioned in the forum, that is " no connection to integration builder(only local data visible) ".
i went to the integration engine configuration in "SXMB_ADM" transaction in SAPBWSEM server.
in sxmb_adm transaction ,the system ask for the "specific configuration data-catagory" like TUNNING , MONITOR,RUNTIME,TRACELOG,DEBUG and RFCADAPTER.
im little bit confused in choosing the "catagory of configuration data".so can u pls help me in this error.
    with cheers.
    rajesh

Did you create the RFC Destinations LCRSAPRFC and SAPSLDAPI to point your SLD ? If not do that.
Then create RFC Dest INTEGRATION_DIRECTORY_HMI type H. Look at your XI box and make these 3 RFC Dests.
Then use the following thread to fix your IFR_ADDRESS
    Values for table SPROXSET

  • ABAP Proxy Generation

    Hi All,
I trying to create the ABAP Proxy(OUTBOUND)
I have created the message interface in XI and created outbound proxy in R/3 by using SPROXY Tcode.
Created the ZProgram by calling class.
and completed the Configuration steps in integration builder like (Receiver determination, Interface determination, Receiver Agreement and Receiver communication channel).
When I trying to execute Zprogram in R/3 it is giving "Proxy creation do not transport" and I did not see any message in SXMB_MONI in XI and R/3 too.
Is there any thing needs to be created in XI or R/3.
any help how to trace this..
    Thanks
    M

    HEY MURALI,
In short : these are development steps for ur proxy :
    1. generate the proxy based on a package of 4 layer strucutre.
    2. After generating the proxy , activate it.
    3. i will always test my proxy , at this level so that i can see its working and no issues w.rt. calling from z-program
    4. i will now go and check the working of z-program and activate and execute it. you can also check if the earlier steps were successful , w.r.t debugging ur program.
    5. Also check the settings/ configurations if anything missing.
    Hope this helps

  • ABAP Proxy Generation: SLDCheck works - Connection test does not

    Hello,
for purpose of proxy generation we would like to connect a r/3 system (6.20) to our XI 3.0.
We have one central SLD. The R/3 is registered there as technical system. We have maintained RFCs LCRSAPRFC and SAPSLDAPI (also created the service on j2ee visal admin). Both work. In transaction sldapicust the connection data is maintained. In table sproxset the three entries for address,  password and user are done.
In exchange profile everything seems to be configured well.
Using transaction SLDCHECK it shows everything allright (all points are green).
In transaction sproxy it shows only local data. Doing the connection test , it warns that only in sproxset the address is maintained. Obviously it has no connection to exchange profile but it doesnt even take the address maintained in sproxset which is the right one.
So did we forget some configuration.
Another strange thing is that if you select Goto->Integration Builder a complete false address is called. How can we change this address?
Maybe this has something to do with our connection problem.
    Anyone with a hint?
    Martin

    Hi Werner,
In TC-SPROXY, when you click Goto->ConnnectioTest, it will display a list of checklist (4 points will be listed) for connecting to the Integration Builder. Does your configuration satisfy all of them?
The IntegrationBuilder (IB) address are stored in exchange profile parameters and sproxy will use it to connect to IB.
    Thanks,
    Sasi
