  • IMessage and FaceTime not working on Mac Pro and message stating to contact Support came on

iMessage and FaceTime not working on Mac Pro and a message stating to contact Support came on with a verification code.  It was working on 8/29 but stopped on 8/30.  When I called support to even speak with anyone they wanted $19.  I don't want to pay $19 for an Apple problem.  I cleared my key chain, also reset my apple ID password but still not working.  Works fine on my iPhone.

There is no official public documentation of that error message as far as I know, but according to reports, it can mean (at least sometimes) that the same Apple ID is being used with the iTunes Store or one of the other Apple content stores, and the payment method is invalid. Sign in to the store and review your account. You do not, of course, have to provide any billing information to set up an account to use only with iMessage, as it's a free service.
Otherwise, do what the error message tells you to do. According to reports, you won't be charged for the call if you select "Apple ID" as the product you need support for, and cite the customer code in the alert as the "validation code" to the support representative.

  • IMessage and FaceTime not working, Urgent Help please!!!

    Hi guys,
Need help urgently, my iMessage and FaceTime are both not working on my Macbook Pro.
The iMessage gives giving this message "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.", while FaceTime just simply cannot login.
    Please help!!!

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
Sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your Apple devices. Log out and log back in. Try again to sign in.
    Step 3
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 4
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 5
Take the steps suggested in this support article. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If the box marked SOCKS Proxy is checked, uncheck it. You don’t need to change any other settings in the window. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
The result may be that you can't connect to the Internet at all. Revert the change if that happens, or if iMessage still doesn't work. Remember that you must Apply any changes you make in the preference pane before they take effect.
    Step 7
    Select from the menu bar
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane.
    Step 8
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name. Log out and log back in.
    Step 9
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 10
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you start up, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound outputand Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. After testing, restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
If iMessage worked in safe mode, but still doesn't work when you restart in "normal" mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 11
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.apsd.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 12
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 13
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
    Step 14
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 15
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support. When you set up a support call, select "Apple ID" as the product you need help with, not the hardware model. That way, if you're not under AppleCare, you may be able to talk your way out of being charged for the call.

  • IMessage and Facetime not working in 8.3 (iPad 3 Wifi)

After updating to iOS 8.3 iMessage and Facetime is no longer working. iMessage receives messages now and then but is extremely unresponsive, often crashes, and usually only the last message shows. Some of the older ones show at times, but most seems gone. The Messages and Facetime tab in Settings also are extremely unresponsive..takes about half a minute to open. Usually, but not always, I'm told to log on with my Apple ID, which it won't do.
I tried calling my iPad with Facetime. Nothing. Half an hour later it suddenly rang once...
Apps closed, iPad restarted several times to no avail.

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
What I would suggest doing is signing out of both services and then rebooting your iPad.
    iMessage
Settings --> Messages --> Sign Out
    FaceTime
Settings --> FaceTime --> Sign Out
Once your iPad has finished rebooting than sign back into iMessage and FaceTime.
As a side question, are you using Apple's 2 Step Verification for your Apple ID? This is a setting you manually have to turn on so chances are, if you didn't turn it on than you don't have 2 Step Verification.

  • IMessages and FaceTime not working on MacBook Pro

I've a MacBook pro, I was using FaceTime and iMessages lately but recently I couldn't sign in. Everytime I try to sign in, I get an error message saying "The server encountered an error processing registration, please try again later".
P.S: Both iMessages and FaceTime are working on my iPhone with same account.

  • Fix for imessage and facetime not working in iOS5

I HAVE THE SOLUTION - It's worth shouting about!
will work on itouch as well
Upgraded 3 devices to IOS5. iphone 4, iPad 2 and iTouch (4th Gen). iMessage activates but during sending message it get stuck at 90%, Facetime stopped working on all 3 devices! All connected through a home network  No luck with any of the suggestions on the internet as to the cause of the problems.
Took iphone and iTouch to work, connected on the open Wi-Fi there and hey presto both iMessage and Facetime started working!  What the ****?  Brought the devices home and they continued to work on my home network.  Still no luck with the iPad 2 sending to either of the other devices or connecting on Facetime.
It struck me that there appeared to be an issue with the activation process ( even though it said activation successful at home).  The most likely cause is the DNS server not passing the data through correctly.
I checked my DNS setting on my router and they were set to Open DNS (208.67.222.220), maybe using Google Public DNS would work?  But I didn’t need to mess with the router settings, the DNS on the apple device overrides the router setting. I set the Pad DNS (in Wi-Fi settings) to the Google DNS and straight away a mass of “stuck” test messages came through and I could also send iMessages.  Facetime also started working! Yippee! Success!  I reset the DNS back to its original value after I finished and it still works ok ( this is optional as Google DNS is good to use as default).
So here’s the fix.... it’s so simple!!
Settings > WiFi > find the active wifi network ( the one with the tick)
Click the blue arrow> find the DNS entry ( 4th item down), note it’s value.
In the DNS field – type in 8.8.8.8
Click the “home button” and then try iMessage and Facetime.
(it’s up to you if .want to set the DNS back to it’s old value)

Your solution works like magic! Thank you very much!

  • IMessage and FaceTime not working for over a day now - iPad2

I updated my iPad 2 to ios 6 on the 27th, everything worked fine on the 28th but my iMessage and FaceTime stopped working since the 29th. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? I have practically tried everything but nothing seems to work. I am so frustrated. Is it my iPad's problem or is it Apple's? I would appreciate any suggestion and help. Thanks.

    Hey ericcase777,

  • Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime not working and giving repeating popups

So I have recently found my lost iPad after about a year and when I turn it on, it's giving me never ending popups for my iMessage and FaceTime apple ID, which says is incorrect. i now have an iPhone 5c whose email I switched because my old one (aka the one my iPad is set up to) got disabled. On my phone, my iTunes/App Store and iMessage/FaceTime Apple ID is my new email but my iCloud is still the same. I decided to reset my Apple ID through my iCloud though I typed in my new email since I thought it'd change it. Now, my iMessage is messed up where I can't text my friends in other countries (though I can with my friends in the same country though it's not as an SMS), my iMessage won't activate, I'm not sure if my friend can even see the messages, and I don't know what to do.
If it helps any, I deleted my iPad from my iCloud for backup storage space. Also, I don't know if I'm posting this in the right area as I'm mainly talking about my iPhone 5c but it also has to do with my iPad mini
Also, I just tried signing into my old Apple ID in iCloud on my phone with my new password and it worked and my old one didnt

Set up Facetime with your new Apple ID: tap Settings > Facetime > Apple ID > Sign out. Later log in with your latest Apple ID.
Set up iMessage with new Apple ID: tap Settings >Messages > Send & Receive > tap the Apple ID to sign out > later, sign in with your new Apple ID.

  • IMessage and FaceTime not working with phone number.

    Hi guys,
I've had this issue for days. My iMessage had been linked with my email. So I sign out of "my Apple ID" to enable me select my phone number as my preferred option for use. Unfortunately, I have my former phone number (which does not exist anymore) in grey and not my present phone number. So I'm stuck with my old contact and my email address for iMessage and FaceTime. I have tried toggling iMessage off and on, it keeps me on "waiting for activation" mode, deducts some airtime for SMS charge but still goes back to "iMessage unsuccessful".
Guys what can I do to link my active phone number to my iMessage and FaceTime.

    Hello Walidou,
I've gone through the text, thanks. But it doesn't give me a solution still. It says if after waiting for activation for 24hours it doesn't still work, then contact apple support. You see it still brings me back here.
Infact, as I'm writing this my airtime is still being deducted as SMS is being automatically sent to some random number like "+447537410257"

  • Imessages and facetime not working on ipad 3 mini since update to 8.3

brand new ipad 3 mini i-messages and facetime was working until update to IOS 8.3. can anyone help. I've restored ipad and set up as new but still same.

If none of this suggestions help, you are in the same boat a bunch of us are in! We all have newish devices (mostly iPad mini 3) and suddenly can't get into FaceTime or Messages. There's no slider and the sign in just dumps us back to sign in or gives a network error message.
If that's what's happening, it's probably an AppleID problem. Mine isn't working for FaceTime or Messages on any iPad, but my friend's works on mine. If you go to page 18, you will see what we've tried after 8.2 upgrade

  • New phone - iMessage and Facetime not working with number?

I had a 4s and recently got a 5s, and now iMessage on my Mac only has my email as an option. My phone number is the same. I searched around for a solution, and one involved signing out and back into both iMessage and Facetime on my Mac, so I did, and now Facetime has the same problem. I really do not want to log into my Apple ID in iMessages on my phone because I tried that a few days ago and had all kinds of problems with sending and receiving messages. Currently, my phone is sending and receiving with my phone number, which is checked but also grayed out in Settings. I am running OS X 10.8.3. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like you did the first part of the following. Thus it seems yo have to try the second parts evenought you do not want o signout on the iPhone
Phone number missing on OS X
If your phone number isn't listed on your Mac, follow these steps:
Update to the latest version of OS X on your Mac.
Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you're using on your iPhone.
Sign out of your Apple ID at these locations on your Mac:
Messages > Preferences > Accounts tab. Click iMessage in the left column, then click Sign Out.
FaceTime > Preferences. Select your Apple ID, then click Sign Out.
Close FaceTime and Messages on your Mac.
Open FaceTime and Messages, then sign in to your Apple ID in Preferences.
If your phone number still isn't listed on your Mac, follow these steps:
Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign out of your Apple ID on your Mac at the following locations:
Messages > Preferences > Accounts tab. Click iMessage in the left column, then click Sign Out.
FaceTime > Preferences. Select your Apple ID, then click Sign Out.
Close FaceTime and Messages on your Mac.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and also in Settings > FaceTime.
Open FaceTime and iMessage, then sign in to your Apple ID in Preferences.

  • IMessages and Facetime not working on my iMAC

    Hi,
My imessages and facetime suddenly stopped working. Every time I send a message, an exclamation mark in red appears and asks me to try again.  Equally, when I use facetime, it just says "call failed".
No problems with my iphone though.
Have signed in and out, rebooted etc.
    Created a new appleID...same thing.
    Help?

Is your phone connected to the same network, or is it using the cellular network?

  • TS4268 IMessage and FaceTime not working on iPod touch

Hey, so I got this iPod fifth generation three days ago. I have been iMessaging and facetiming a couple of my friends and it was working great up until yesterday morning. I have tried several other suggestions off the apple help site but none have worked and I don't want to have to restart my iPod because I will lose the information that I already have. My Internet is working great because I am on it right now. If anybody has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

    Have you tried:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    Can you receive them?
Have you tried when connected to another network?
What exactly happens when you try? Error message?

  • IMessage and Facetime Not Working - Cannot Log Into Apple ID.

    Hello,
Some background: iMessage and Facetime are not working. Both applications are saying that I am not typing in the correct password for my Apple ID. Needless to say, the applications are wrong and I am using the correct password.
    Some background:
    1) This is an iPhone 5.
    2) It is running iOS 6.0.2.
    3) I am on Verizon.
    4) I am located in the continental US.
    5) I have a full e-mail address for my Apple ID username.
    6) iMessage and Facetime are both working on my iPad, using the same login information.
    7) All other applications that use Apple ID, such as the App Store, are not having this type of log in issue.
    8) This issue occurs regardless of whether I am connected to wi-fi or just the mobile carrier, or both.
Troubleshooting I have tried to fix this issue:
    1) I have changed my Apple ID password. This did not work.
    2) I have changed my Apple ID username/email. This did not work.
    3) I have played around with Date/Time setting changes. This did not work.
    4) I have reset all settings. This did not work.
    5) I have tried hard restarts of the phone. This did not work.
    6) I have performed a restore from backup of the phone. This did not work.
    7) I have performed a full factory restore of the phone. This did not work.
Apple Support is at a total loss on how to fix this. I have now had multiple frustrating phone support sessions with them with zero results. If you do some searching, it appears there is no way that anyone knows of to fix this issue once all the troubleshooting I have listed above has failed. People have had to acquire brand new phones in order for these applications to work again.
    Obviously this is unacceptable.
There are a lot of smart people on these forums fixing tech issues like this. Anyone have any input?

randers4, thank you for the suggestions.
    1) I have contacted Verizon and they are not blocking "premium" or 3rd party text messages.
    2) The Apple ID login issue occurs regardless of wi-fi network location, or even if I am not on wi-fi at all. Router settings are irrelevant to this problem.
    3) I have already played around extensively with date and time settings. This did not fix any issues.
Any other suggestions? I had another call with Apple support and they are of the opinion that I may need to have the phone totally replaced, which is unacceptable unless it is free of charge.
