About 1Z0-051 & 1Z0-052 11g

Is there a waiting period for taking the second part of the administrative certified associate exam 1Z0-052?
Should it be taken right away or immediately after 1Z0-052?

1Z0-052 isn't really the 'second' part of the certification.  It is generally taken second, but that's not a requirement.  The order you take the tests in is completely arbitrary.  Most people take 051 first and 052 second, but that's not required.  I talk about that in my blog here:
Oracle Certification Prep: What Order Should I take Oracle Certification Exams In?
That said, I'm going to have to disagree with John (something I don't do often).  Unless you are really comfortable with the material for both exams, I would not recommend taking them both in one day.  John is an extremely knowledgeable DBA and splitting his concentration between two exams is not a problem.  For that matter, I originally became an Oracle OCP when I worked for Oracle's Support team. They had Prometric create a lab in the building where we worked for a day.  Since they were only going to be there the one day, I took all four of the tests required at the time for the 7.3 certification -- two before lunch and two after.  Again, though, I was very familiar with the information being tested.
If you are not 100% confident of your mastery of the material, I think that you will have a greater chance of success if the tests are separated by at least a day or two so that you can focus all of your concentration on one at a time. The overlap between 051 and 052 is not very significant and 052 is generally considered to be the more difficult of the two exams. It is more important that you take enough time preparing for it that you are comfortable with the information than taking it as soon as possible after passing 051.

  • Does 1Z0-001 fit the requirement of 11g DB OCP requirement (1Z0-051)?

    Dear Sir:
Hi, I would like to ask 3 questions about the certification requirement of 11g DB OCP.
Please advice me what do I have to do to prepare the OCP exam, thanks a lot in advance.
    Q1:
Does 1Z0-001 fit the requirement of 11g DB OCP requirement (pass 1Z0-001 = pass 1Z0-051)?
    AFAIK, 11g DB OCP requires passing 3 exams: 1Z0-051 (SQL), 1Z0-052 (AW1), 1Z0-053 (AW2) and finishing a hand-on course at least.
I have passed the 1Z0-001 (Introduction to SQL ans PL/SQL) many years ago.
After searching the discussion in the community, I've found 2 relative:
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2526631  It said :"1Z0-001 will satisfy the SQL requirement."
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2467872 It said : "I can confirm that the 001 exam will fulfill the SQL exam requirement if it was passed before it retired."
I was confused on that. Please help me to clear it.
Do I have to prepare the exam 1Z0-051 since I have passed 1Z0-001 (an retired exam)?
    Q2:
Please confirm that finishing the SSC (Self-Study Course) DOES NOT apply the "hand-on course requirement ".
It still need to pay more money for an instructor-led (face-to-face) course, right?
    Q3:
Can I just finish ONE course "Oracle 11g Database Administrator Workshop II" from an Oracle authorized education center to fit the " hand-on course requirement " ?
Sorry I have to ask this because the budget consideration.
    Thank you very much!

A1 -- Yes, if you passed 1Z0-001, you do not need to take 1Z0-051.  When courses are retired, it simply means they are no longer given to *new* students.  Anyone who passed them still retains credit for having done so.
A2 -- Self Study CDs do not count for the hands-in requirement.  On the approved courses page of OU, it specifically states: "Self Study CD-Rom and Knowledge Center courses are excellent study and reference tools but DO NOT meet the Hands-on Requirement for certification."
A3 -- Only one course is required for the 11G OCP.  That one is on the approved list and so will be acceptable if the vendor is authorized by OU.

  • Differences between 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053 and 11g OCP

    Hi All
    I have a small dilemma
For Christmas I was given a copy of OCA/OCP Oracle Database 11g All-in-One Exam Guide with CD-ROM: Exams 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053 (Osborne Oracle Press Series) [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Database-All-Guide-CD-ROM/dp/0071629181/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262090730&sr=1-5|http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Database-All-Guide-CD-ROM/dp/0071629181/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262090730&sr=1-5]
As you will see in the book title it covers 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053
About a year ago I attended the following courses
    TT - Oracle D/B 10g Program PL/SQL-QA-IQ
    TT - Oracle PL/SQL - GK
TT - Oracle 10g Intro to SQL
I have been meaning to get round to taking my exams and OCA qualification is no problem as I can take 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 using the above book and the knowledge I gained on the course (even though the course was 10g).
But my question surrounds 11g OCP and how it requires instructor led training - now I have done my 10g course but I guess this wont count as an instructor led course for 11g OCP.
If not then im going to need to take the route of 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 to get OCP and 1Z0-050 to upgrade to 11g
So I would ask how safe I would be learning the above mentioned book and taking the 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 exams. I understand there is no accurate answer as it is subjective but if 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053 (11g) knowledge covers 1Z0-042 and 1Z0-043 (10g) knowledge then there should be no problem, right?
I really dont want to have to take the book back or purchase another.
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

RobYour'e thinking sensibly about this. Well done. And the hands on course needs to be considered carefully and I often say this can be deciding factor in planning.
IMHO there is at least 80% commonality between the topics for 1z0-042 AND 1Z0-052 .... and probably similar for 1z0-043 and 1z0-053 whoug I've never directly checked this and there may be a greater divergence there.
Be aware some topics in 1z0-050 will not be covered in the books you have as far as I am aware.
One option you have not considered is taking exams in this order ..... this will give you 10g OCP and 11g OCP. This is wha I did .... but it mainly occured that for me way as the 1z0-053 was fairly delayed into production and I wanted the certificates I could have as soon as possilble .... ie 10gDBAOCP and 11gDBAOCA. I actually did the 1z1-053 beta for my 11g DBA OCP ... cheaper than 1z0-050 as I already had 11g DBA OCA.
    1z0-051 1z0-042 1z0-052 1z0-043 1z0-053.
I know you dont want to buy another book, but the 10g ones from Sybex (and associated CDROM's) give a slightly different viewpoint (though they are for 10gR1 and are not updated for 10gR2 topics). IMHO the sybex books can ometimes go a little over the top in some areas. But all these books can contain some errors ... however they do provide an extra set of practice questions. However it is an option for you.
Its worth registering your 10g course as a hands on course as soon as reasonably possible to ensure there are no issues with it (I assume you have attended the course from Oracle University).
Anyway these are my thoughts. But you know your own circumstances and are responsible for your own decisions. Good Luck.

  • Passed 1Z0-051 -- is the score final?

    Hi All,
I'm pursuing 'Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate' certification. Just finished ONLINE '1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I'. After exam, I get a summary containing e.g. 'Passing Score 60%' and my actual score, which is 'Pass (67.3%)'.
According to what one can see on the official Oracle website describing 'Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I', 'Passing score subject to change'. How it relates to me? If I got an information after the exam confirming that I passed, could I believe that I really passed, or rather shoud wait for some kind of additional confirmation, as 'Passing score subject to change'?
    Just a little confusion.

    My understanding is:
Your score is final, you have taken an exam where the pass mark for the questions given to you was 60% and you have exceeded that.
    Congratulations and well done!
So I believe your pass is forever (unless one were found to have cheated or have violated a non discloure agreement, in which case one could have the pass voided for that)
Oracle reserves the right at a future time to change the pass mark ar a future time if it is more appropriate, probably due to questions in the exam question pool being harder or easier.
I expect this provision on the website is to avoid someone complaining that they looked on the website before the exam and seen a passmark as 60%,
yet when they came to take it they found they had a exam with a passmark of 62% and they might feel they had a grounds for complaint.
The publishing of a guide pass mark on the oracle website is generally useful when comparing with the exam topics in determining whether to study for or preparedness to take an exam,
but it should be only one indicator; my personal opinion is to aim to study to be able to have a shot at all questions. From memory 1z0-147 Program with PL/SQL has a pass mark of 77% or so,
1z0-402 Enterprise Linux Fundamental of about 57%. To get the grade in the former the examiner is probably trying to ensure accurate understanding of specified exam topics, in the latter
the object might be not to worry so much if the examinee did not understand some of broader width of that exam topics as well. In addition beta testing would have determined a lot of people
were finding it hard to achieve on 1z0-402.

  • Contents of 1z0-051 exam in all-in-one book?

    Hello everyone,
I am new at this community and I am thinking off doing de OCA exam. For this reason I have recently bought the "oca/ocp oracle database 11g all-in-one exam guide" but I don't know which part refers to de SQL Fundamentals (1z0-051). It is possble to know what chapters refers to each exam 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053 ? Maybe it is a foolish question but I have been looking for the answer unsuccessfully for hours.
Thank you very much in advance,

It is really important to find the authorative source for the exam topics:
    Goto:
    http://certification.oracle.com
.... and look up those exams and their associated topics there. Exam topics can sometimes change after books are published, so it is important to double check on Oracle's Website.
I've not looked at that combined guide myself, but the first part will realate to the SQL topics of 1z0-051. The switch to the database archecture of part 2 should be obvious. The chapters tend to align well with the topics on the exam website.
Edited by: bigdelboy on 20-Dec-2012 06:42 re: but the first part will realate to the SQL topics of 1z0-051 .... okay I can see from Matthews answer below it doesn't ... well teaches me not to guess!

  • 1z0-051: SQL Fundamentals objective inquiry

    Hi,
first of all I wish if this is the right way/ forum to ask. If not, please accept my apologies, in advance.
I'm preparing for 1z0-051 Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals 1 exam. My main refrence is :
OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) Complete Exam Preparation-John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass , from Oracle Press.
I could find in the book a reference for the objective of the Using DDL Statements to Create and Manage Tables:
    Describe how schema objects work.
Any help with that objective, please???
    Thank you

Hell AHS, I just answered your question in the other topic you opened. The info provided in the link Markus Waldorf gave you is too detailed. You don't need to know about CLUSTER, DIMENSION, EXTERNAL PROCEDURES, etc etc.
I passed the exam not so long ago and the book is enough (along with 5 years using Oracle almost everyday in my case).
    Cheers,

Online exams are non-proctored, which means that you can take them at your convenience any time, anywhere. Pre-registration is not required. You register when you are ready to take the exam.
Online exams are closed-book exams --- books, course materials and notes are not allowed. You should prepare for them fully and rely on your own mastery of the material.
Candidates who take the online exams are subject to the Oracle Fraudulent Activity policy and must agree to the Oracle Candidate Agreement (presented at the beginning of the exam). You should never have someone take the exam for you. You should never test under a name other than your own, and/or test using more than one name or Prometric Testing ID.

  • Could I take 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-047 together?

Hi, I am currently planning to take a Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate. At first, I plan to take the path of 1Z0-047 + 1Z0-144 which leads to this certification, because the 1Z0-047 itself is also leading to another cert (Oracle SQL Expert cert). So if I take this path, I would end up with two certifications (Oracle SQL Expert cert and PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate)
However, people keep on telling me that 1Z0-047 is very difficult, saying that 1Z0-051 is much easier if I want to guarantee a PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate.
So, is it possible that I take all three exams (1Z0-051, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-144)? I am thinking that taking 1Z0-051 as a kind of "practice" because it is an online exam and the exam scope looks easy to me. Also I have some budgets allocated to me so I don't mind spend a little bit extra money to Oracle exams.
I'm just wondering whether two of them (051, 047) are mutually exclusive in the exam policy or something.

So, is it possible that I take all three exams (1Z0-051, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-144)?Yes, you may take both 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-047. In fact, I would highly recommend taking 1Z0-051 before taking 1Z0-047. You have heard correctly, 047 is a much more difficult exam and requires a considerably higher level of SQL experience/knowledge. If you look at the study topics for both tests, you'll see that 1Z0-047 includes essentially all of the topics from 1Z0-051, and has another thirty-some topics in addition. Studying for 1Z0-051 is in itself preparation for taking the expert test. I discuss the two exams in an article here:

There are no specifically exam focused books for these exams now or in the pipeline as far as I am aware. (This is the cause in fact for the majority of oracle certification examinations that are available).

This has been discsussed previously on the forum.

The Oracle Documentation itself is in fact quite good, and sometimes IMHO better than the books!
