    Good day thehuman0,
Some carriers do not allow you to change your APN settings. See this article -
iOS: About cellular data network settings (viewing or editing the APN) - Apple Support
    Specifically -
To edit the settings, tap each field and enter the details provided by your carrier. The settings should save automatically. Depending on your carrier, you may not be able to edit the cellular data settings.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Can I manage my ATT cellular data account from a website and not from my device?

I have an iPad2 (iOS 7.0.6) with an ATT cellular data plan for 2GB for 30 days.  Received a usage alert that I only have 0.4 GB left for the remaining 11 days in the billing period.  Settings/Cellular Data/Account (after logging in) only gives macro information about the total usage.
Is there a way to get more detail about cellular data usage?  Like broken down between email, streaming music, web surfing, etc?  The website  www.att.com/att/datacalculator lets you make estimates, but is there a way to use this itemized format to see your actual usage?
Also, is there a way to manage my Cellular Data account online without using the iPad (and without having to suffer through a customer support voice menu that probably won't let me talk to a live person)?  I tried going to www.attwireless.com and using my iPad cellular data account login info there, but the site said I couldn't monitor the device from there (I can only use it for our cellphones).  I'm now in a data conservation mindset and am afraid that accessing the cellular data account to modify the data plan is going to swallow all the remaining data for the month.

The AT&T web site may not break it down, but iOS 7 does.  If you go into Settings -> Cellular Data down near the bottom it provides a list of apps and how much cellular data they have used since you last reset your cellular data counters.  For me, I last reset my counters Sept 11, 2013, and since then I have used 19.5GB on my AT&T cellular network.  Below that it gives a list broken down by app and how much data each has used.

I onto want the podcast app to sync when using wifi can I do this?

    Hi, Jmcruzs.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would need clarification on what you mean by software update to provide a better answer.  However, it does sounds like you may have automatic app updates enabled.  Here is a helpful article that will help you adjust these settings.

    Hi DELTADAWN545,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are unable to locate the cellular data settings on your iPad. the cellular data settings should be found under Settings > Cellular Data as described in the attached article. If this option is not there and you are sure this is an iPad Wi-Fi plus Cellular model, please let me know.

  • I have had my IPAD2 for quite a while but haven't activated my cellular data for about a year.  I am now trying to activate and when I go to cellular data, turn it on and try to tap view account i just get a message that says "connection to server lost".

I have had my IPAD2 for quite a while but haven't activated my cellular data for about a year.  I am now trying to activate and when I go to cellular data, turn it on and try to tap view account i just get a message that says "connection to server lost".  I could swear the last time I used cellular data you would see the signal in the upper left corner and I only see "no service" there, I am in a location where I know I should have service.  Is there something I should do to my IPAD?  I tried resetting, I tried clearing cookies and history in Safari (after reading a post n these discussions).  I don't know what to do next. My IOS version is 6.1.3.  I did go into Network from the general tab and I see it says "SIM not provisioned".    HELP and Thank you in advance.

    Hello Theresa818,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the cellular data will not activate for some reason on the iPad.
I found this article that will help you resolve this issue here, named iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular Models): Troubleshooting a cellular data connection, found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4249
Check for a carrier settings update.
    Update your iPad.
Toggle the Cellular Data setting off and on under Settings > Cellular Data.
    Restart your iPad.
Tap Settings > General > About. Locate the Carrier entry and make sure that your carrier is correct.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Cellular Data > SIM PIN.
Make sure you're in an area of good coverage. If the cellular data connection works in another area, contact your carrier to report the original affected area.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPad as new.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, contact your carrier, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
I know you may have done one or two of the steps here, so you can skip those.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2?  My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old.

Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2?  My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old. It;s been working perfectly up until now.  I have no problem on my home WIFI, or through personal hotspot working through my iPhone 5.
I have worked with AT&T, replaced the SIM card with a new one, and done a backup/restore to factory settings, all with the same result that when I turn Cellular
Data on, with or without Enable LTE, it goes into "searching" mode, or reports "no service".  My iPhone 5 works perfectly on iOS 8.1.2, on Cellular.  I've browsed the blogs and have tried Apple's suggested fix, all to no result.
Oddly enough, every once in a while I do get connected to the network for a short ime (minutes), but it always returns to "searching".
I've filed a report with Apple, along with a request that they contact me, but no results yet.
    Help? (and thank you).

Hello razmee209.  Thank you for your response.  I spent the better part of yesterday working with Apple Support.  They tried their best, to include backing up photos to my HP laptop, backing up the iPad to iCloud, then resetting the iPad in total.  Same problem.  I restored from the cloud to recover my apps, same problem.
AT&T installed a new sim card - same problem.  I spent time with AT&T Support yesterday, too.  In both cases, (Apple and AT&T) the support techs who worked with me were extremely polite, courteous and helpful to the best of their abilities, but I think the problem lies deeper, and nobody at Apple is admitting they have a problem with iOS 8, that I'm aware of.
I didn't have this issue before I upgraded to iOS 8.1.2.
Everything else with the iPad works fine:  WIFI, Personal Hotspot, email, all my apps, etc.
In browsing the web for this issue I see that many other folks have the same problem.  I filed a report with Apple this morning, requesting that they contact me, but no word yet.  I was going to go to iPhone 6, and had been considering the iPad Air 2, but I see reports of this problem with those units as well.
At this point I don't think I'll be spending any more money with Apple, at least not till this issue is resolved.
Thanks again for your response and suggestions.

  • HT3529 I am confused about messaging. Shouldn't I be able to send and receive messages with cellular data off?  I can usually send the message, but often do not receive messages until I either have wifi or turn cellular on.

I am confused about messaging. Shouldn't I be able to send and receive messages with cellular data off and without wifi? I can send the message but often do not receive messages from others, iPhone or other, until  I turn on cellular or wifi.

Depends on the type of Message.
SMS messages will send and receive with data off.  and while you can guarantee you send using SMS you cannot guarantee that whoever replies to you does also. They may be replying thorugh iMessage if they are using iPhones.
However Android should be sending through SMS.
You can turn off iMessage if you want to, though people with limtied SMS text messaging in their plans may not appreciate it, and stop messaging you.

  • About disable the cellular data function

Hi everyone, I get a big problem...
I have just come back to HK after my holiday. I'm really sure that I had turned off the cellular data function when I left HK.
However, I was really surprised  when I received the bill. There is a big charge for data roaming. I have contact my mobile phone company and he replied that it is impossible to completely turn off the cellular data function of the iPhone. iPhone will get updating some data, such as weather automatically.
    is it true??
    Thx for your help!!!!

    Hi,
This topic interests me.  Can I just confirm that navigating to Settings>General>Mobile Data and turning:
    1) Mobile Data
    2) Enable 3G
    3) Data Roaming
to "Off" will not entirely prevent access to cellular data networks?  What if you navigated a step further to >Mobile Data Networks and simply deleted all entries, or replaced existing entries with garbage?

  • Why do I have mysterious cellular data usage (Verizon) every 6 hours on all 3 of my iphone 5's?

I have recently uncovered mysterious cellular usage on three different iPhones. I am a Verizon customer and discovered this by examining the cellular data use logs. What I found are a long series of mysterious data usage logs. I have visited the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store 3 times now to log notes and discuss the issue. It is being escalated.
    The characterstics are as follows:
All my family phones have the appropriate IOS and hardware updates (verified by the GeniusBar at my local Apple Store).
This is occuring across three phones, which happen to all be iphone 5. Two are 5 and the other a new 5s. We do have one iphone 4 in the family but the issue (so far as I can tell), is not happening on it.
One iphone 5 has IOS 7, the other IOS 6. The new 5s has of course IOS 7.
Mysterious data use happens even while connected to wifi.
Each mysterious data use log entry is exactly 6 hours apart. For example: 2:18 AM, 8:18 AM, 2:18 PM, 8:18 PM, 2:18 AM ... etc. It cycles AM and PM, same times, for a day to many days until some condition causes it to change (evolve).
The times evolve. One day it could be cycling through at one time series, then it changes to another time sequence and continues until the next condition.
The data usage is anywhere from a few K to many MB. The largest I've seen is over 100 MB.
The logs clearly show these usages are not due to human interaction. It is a program.
If cellular connection is used frequently (by the owner), the pattern is hard to pick out. Luckily, my family member is very good about only using wifi whenever possible, so these mysterious use patterns are easy to pick out.
Verizon allows access to 90 days worth of data logs, so I downloaded and analyzed them. This has been happening for at least 90 days. I have found 298 instances of mysterious use out of 500 total connections to cellular. A total of 3.5 GB of mysterious cellular data has been recorded as used in that 90 days by this phone alone. Only .6 GB of the total cellular data use is legitimate, meaning by the person.
This issue is occuring across three different phones. Two are iPhone 5, and the third is a recently purchased iPhone 5s. The 5s I have not touched beyone the basic startup. I have left it alone on a desk for 3 days, and looking at the logs, the mysterious data use in the same pattern is occuring.
So ... I am speaking to both sides, Verizon and Apple to get answers. Verizon puts their wall up at data usage. It doesn't matter how it is being used, you simply need to pay for it. Yes, the evidence I have gathered is getting closer to someting on Verizon's end.
Before pressing in that direction, I am hoping someone reading this may recognize this issue as a possible iPhone 5 issue ... OR ... you, right now, go look at your data usage logs available through your carrier's web account, and see if you can pick out a pattern of mysterious use. Look especially at the early morning instances when you are most likely sleeping.
I am hoping this is a simple issue that has a quick resolution. I'm looking for the "ooohhh, I see that now ..." But I am starting to think this might be much bigger, but the fact is, most customers rarely or never look at their data usage details, much less discover mysterious use patterns.
The final interesting (maybe frightening part) thing about all this is that I discovered while talking to Verizon ... they do not divulge which direction the data is going. This goes for any use, mysterious or legitimate. Is cellular data coming to your phone, or leaving it? Is something pulling data from your phone? We know that it is possible to build malware apps, but the catch with my issue is that it is also happening on a brand new iphone 5s with nothing downloaded to it.
    Thanks for your time

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • Can not view cellular data account any more (email address does not match)

On iPad, was originally able to go into Settings > Cellular Data > View Account and view the account info. Now cannot. If try using correct email address and password, get message that account or password are incorrect. If try entering just the email address and clicking "forgot password", get "the email address you entered does not match the email address on file for this device".
But the 3G cellular is still working.
Don't know if related, but this problem began after the reports of the 100,000 iPads/users hack. Leads me to wonder if I got hacked.... or more likely if the system/database that "View Account" normally accesses is offline or being reworked by AT&T.
Any suggestions? Best AT&T contact via Internet? By phone #? By local AT&T store? Via Apple? Use iTunes to reset to factory defaults and start over (risk loss of unlimited plan?)?.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the replies, I just had the same problem yesterday and it was a misspelled e-mail address, BUT, it did take me three calls to AT&T and more than two and a half hours. The first person didn't even know what I was talking about and gave me a number for iPad support which turned out to be Apple's, so... no help. The second person told me they were there only to solve iPhone problems until I read her your posts, then she tried and tried until the call was cut off (this is AT&T after all). But the third person finally understood, even though it took her almost an hour to get to their iPad support department (she told me it was busy all the time) not before trying with their "technical department" also. I just can't believe that Apple sells millions of these things and AT&T can't supply a direct phone number for this department, or doesn't even train their personnel.

I can not send email from my iPad .  Have been using it for over a year, all of a sudden I can only receive email.  I have a wifi connection in my home and have a A T &T cellular data plan?

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.

  • When I try to disable cellular data in the settings for my apps it will toggle fine, but once I exit and go back in to the cellular settings its back on again all by itself.

I have had a problem with my iphone 4s for some time now but I have just been so busy to try and fix it. When I try to disable cellular data in the settings for my apps it will toggle fine, but once I exit and go back in to the cellular settings its back on again all by itself. However, even though it says the data is on, I can’t use the data when I don’t have wifi. I tried restoring my phone a few times and the last time I did that, it wouldn’t turn my service on so I had to talk with a Verizon agent for a long time trying to fix it and finally they simply sent me another phone. I thought hey new phone, this part will be fixed. However, I got my service to work but it’s still the same problem with the cellular data. I have just left it alone and not worried about it, but it’s still not fixed and thought I could ask on here if anyone had any ideas. It has something to do with the apps actually installed on the iphone. Apps like the mail, safari, settings, itunes apps, etc. All my other apps turn on and off just fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

Read the User's Guide... it covers how to backup and sync the device as designed.

  • Can't connect to cellular data on my iphone 4s

So here's a description of the issues I've been having over the last several months. I cannot connect to or use my cellular data when not connected to wifi. Example: I will be out at the store or on my way to work and I will try to search google but I will get a page that says "unable to connect. Please check internet connection". Take in mind that at the top of my screen I will have 2-4 bars with 4G when this appears.  I have also tried safari with the same results. I usually have no issues connecting to wifi but I can almost never use my cellular data because it says it can't connect. I have checked all settings on my phone. I have truobleshooted all and everything possible with my service provider and also with Apple and no one can seem to figure out why I'm having this issue.  I have even restored my phone twice with no resolution. Note: this issue did not begin until after the 7.0.4 update, since then my phone has been a complete nightmare. I do have the current software updated and always do so that's not the issue either. I'm convinced that this has something to do with the software update from 7.0.4 because that's when all this crap began. Also, if I am talking on my phone and it's plugged in it shocks me. I have noted this issue with Apple also and they have done nothing. My phone is no longer under warranty, actually November was when my year warranty expired.  The only thing they have said is that it is possibly a hardware issue and recommended I replace  my phone, which I will have to pay $199.00 out of my pocket to do. I'm really irritated about this. I'm also convinced that the issue may very well be a hardware problem (according to Apple) but this hardware problem is due to their software that damaged it. I feel like they should replace it for free. I've noticed that anytime anyone has an issue apple can't fix they immediately blame it on the hardware then make you buy a new phone. Any advice on what else might be causing these issues?
