How to find and install the Portal Development Kit (PDK) for SAP Enterprise
Hi ,
I have the following question regarding thePortal Development Kit (PDK) for SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0. We have Enterprise Portal 6.0 up and running.
1> How Do I find whether we already have this inported in the EP environment: I have admin and super admin role and trying to find '*java' in the Role. But didn't find one. Does that mean we don't have this imported already?
2> I have tried to Find out the PDK( which is also a Business Content) in SDN in the Portal Business content link (https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/contentportfolio.sdn) , but haven't found. Where from I download this business content?
3> What are the special steps that need to be taken to import this and make it working?
Thanks
ArunabhaHi Arunabha,
1. Note that the search is case sensitive. Therefore you should search for java and Java.
2. Download from: https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/downloaditem.sdn?res=/html/PDK60_download.htm
3. Deploy with SDM: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/22/a7663bb3808c1fe10000000a114084/content.htm
Hope that helps,

New User - What's the difference Portal Builder and PDK Developer Kit?
I am a bit confused. I have been working with Portal Builder creating some pages. I have currently run across the topic of PDK Developer Kit. How is this different than Portal Builder or is it? Is the PDK download for personal PCs or for the server? What does PDK provide that Builder doesn't?
Thanks.Hi,
The Oracle Portal Developer Kit (PDK) is a very important & useful component of Oracle Portal. It helps developers ( like me ) to easily convert existing applications into powerful Portlets. It also helps us to get some "context" information from the Portal & take decisions based on it.
You can comfortably use the Portal Builder with the supplied Portlets & develop business solutions - however, at some point, you will notice that you will be working within a confined box. If you need to think "outside-the-box", you will defenitely need to have a look at PDK.
I have shown you the tip of the Iceberg - I would encourage you to download & explore the powerful capabilites of Oracle PDK.

Links needed for portal development on oracle10g appserver using Jdevelope
hi,
i'm relatively new to portals so wud like to hav sum knowledge of doing basing request & response stuff using jsp's as my UI while developing portlets using Jdeveloper.
If anyone could come up with tutorials about portal development on Jdeveloper.
i'm using oracle 10g AS app server(release 10.1.4) with oracle jdeveloper( version 10.1.2.0.0 build 1811).
wud like inputs on wsrp & jsr-168 compliant portletsHi,
You could try starting with the Portal Developers Guide - http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/portal.1014/b14135/toc.htm
You should also find alot of useful info on the Portal Development page on OTN - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/portlet_development_10g1014.html
Cheers,

Sandhya Rani.ImmadiHi Sandhya,
Welcome the EP community. Great to see that you are starting early (just after college). The links for portal development are as follows:
1. To begin with EP there are vairous courses at the following link (from Beginner to Advanced)
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/elearning?rid=/webcontent/uuid/4b0c105e-0501-0010-bcb0-92478a4b2a17
2. Web Dynpro: Java based portal development is done using this tool(Infact it is picking up quite fast). The link contains tutorials for creating applicatios. Just the right thing for getting you started without boring you with too much theory:
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/011be490-0201-0010-2f90-91e872e9490c
3. For HTMLB (HTML for Business), the language used for the portal development:
http://www.sapdesignguild.org./resources/htmlb_guidance/getting_started.html
The following links will get you started in Portal Development. Also I would advice that you have a good understanding on Java/J2EE. If you are new to it and want to get a quick & good understanding on Java/J2EE, I would suggest you go read Head First Series of Java books (Head First Java, Head First Servlet & JSP and Head First EJB).Really useful books, stresses only on the concepts and nothing more.
Also start visiting forums adn weblogs at SDN, there is a lot of stuff happening out here.
Hope this will help you. Let me know if you have any more queries.
Thanks & Regards

Is enterprise portal development non-j2ee development?
HI,
IT is mentioned here at
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/56/c8633e0084e946e10000000a114084/content.htm
" Non-J2EE Java applications (J2EE Engine libraries, WebDynpro applications, Enterprise Portal applications, standalone Java applications, and so on) "
Are the enterprise portal applications non- j2ee? can someone please clarify this to me..
Thank youThat's true.
Enterprise Portal applications are developed from Portal Development Kit (PDK). There are Java and .NET versions of Enterprise Portal applications. Java-based Portal application involves HTMLB, JSP, and DynPage (JspDynPage), which is not purely J2EE.
A J2EE application involves the Web (JSP, Servlets) and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB).
Hope it makes sense,

KT sessions for portal development
Hi,
What are KT sessions? Are they something like online learning courses? Where can I find KT sessions to learn about portal development?
Thanks in advanceSailaja,
KT sessions is a very generic term.
KT sessions are generally referred to as a Knowledge Trasfer sessions. They might happen in a scenario were
1. Somebody who has worked on the latest technologies, might want to enable the rest of the team to learn about it via a KT session.
2. It might happen in an organization when you are leaving the current role or job so that the person replacing you has knowledge of what you have worked on and what is to be done.
I guess you are looking at learning sessions rather than KT sessions.
SAP has its own training sessions held.
http://www.sap.com/services/education/index.epx
Although I would suggest you to first have a look at this before you enroll for a course with SAP or a local instltute(in your city).

How to get tutorials of Archive Development Kit (ADK) and ArchiveLink
Hello experts
I need to implement archiving and I have read about Archive Development Kit (ADK) and ArchiveLink, but my question is that
how can i downloadn the software : Archive Development Kit (ADK) in order to do my achiving in the correct way in SAP.
thanks a lotThis helps me SOMEWHAT.
The mentioned package gives me System.Windows.Interactivity for net 4.5.
But I also need Microsoft.Expression.Interactions and Microsoft.Expression.Drawing which USED to be in the Blend SDK. Why not any more?
I did find the right Drawing and I managed to install it (http://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.Expression.Drawing).
That leaves me with finding the right Interactions. Then I got to the very frustrating aspect of NuGet I have seen before.
I DO find a package description on the NuGet site, which COULD be right (it does not state a .net version there, nor on the project site). http://www.nuget.org/packages/XperiAndri.Expression.Interactions
But it is NOT findable in the NuGet management tool. (Which has a pretty murky find functionality anyway.)
And it also does NOT install by the Nuget Management Console using the direct command mentioned on the NuGet site. It responds with "Unable to find package".
WTF?
Now the only option seems to be to download the source code from GitHub and compile it myself. But what am I getting anyway? I just might try that.
I am astounded that a seemingly important framework like Prism is left on its own and is no longer properly supported. -
Help about running Java Card developement Kit Demo
I am following the Java Card development kit step by step. I have set all environments but I could not run the demo at all. D:\JAVACARD\SAMPLES\SRC\DEMO>
if I type "jcwde jcwde.app" at the demo directory, it tells me that, jcwde is not an intenal or batch file command. when I copied the jcwde.bat from bin directory to demo directory, it run but a lot of erros.
I will be glad if somebody can help to overcome this initial and very important steps in my adventure to smart card.
ThanksThanks everybody for their contribution and suggestion. I have been able to make the demo works apart from demo1 which still give problems.
if I type jcwde jcwde.app, it gives me the following errors.

Attn: Installing the Sample Applications from the ifs Development Kit
There are a number of problems with the sample Applications included in the
Developer's kit. These need to manually fixed in order to get the demos to work.
#1: Solaris Only
The install of the iFS Development Kit, replaces the existing adk.jar with a new
one containing some additional classes. Unfortunately the install process does not
set the correct privileges on the new version of adk.jar. Please ensure that the
file $ORACLE_HOME/ifs/lib/adk.jar is world readable.
Bug # 1304730
This issue will be resolved on the next drop of the Oracle Internet File System
development kit.
#2: Generic
There is a problem with the way in which the login.jsp establishes a connection to
the repository. The current code makes incorrect assumptions about the name of the
iFS Service and the schema password.
The following changes are required.
In order to connect to the repository 4 pieces of information are required.
1. The iFS User Name
2. The iFS User's password
3. The properties file to be used
4. The database password of the user who owns the iFS Schema
The Login.jsp needs to be altered so that it requests these four arguments before
attempting to establish a connection to the repository.
(The current version only requests username and password).
All four arguments need to be provided as arguments to the login method on the
underlying JavaBean that the JSP invokes when it want to open a connection
to the repository.

#3. Making the BaseRendererClass available to the Protocol Servers
Note this step is not required if you have the 1.0.8.3 patch set installed.
Install the BaseRenderer Class. The BaseRenderer class is delivered in the jar file
ifsdevkit.jar and can be used to simplify the task of creating a custom renderer.
Unfortunately the jar file containing this class is not referenced in any of the Classpaths
used by the iFS protocol servers. This means that they will not be able to load any
customer renderers that extend BaseRenderer. In order to make BaseRenderer available
to the Protocol Servers it need to be placed in the appropriate directory under
<ORACLE_HOME>/ifs/custom_classes.
Extract the class from the ifsdevkit.jar.
ifsdevkit.jar is located in <ORACLE_HOME>/ifs/lib after the devkit has been installed.
jar -xvf ifsdevkit.jar
extracted: META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
extracted: BaseRenderer.class
Create the following directory heirachy in <ORACLE_HOME>/ifs/custom classes
oracle/ifs/server/renderers
Copy <ORACLE_HOME>/ifs/lib/BaseRenderer.class to
<ORACLE_HOME/ifs/custom_classes/oracle/ifs/server/renderers
That should do it.

one of problem is that I think DEV schema is Created when we install RCU , I've Created UCM and PORTAL schema through RCU .. But mistalenly I've Removed the DEV schema as well
and facing the below problem
I’ve Created DEV , UCM and PORTAL schema from RCU. and Then try to install UCM ,when schema password screen appear for LOGIN and Create weblogic domain , It tell me INCORRECT PASSWORD, SO , I’ve DROP these 3 schema using RCU , during DROP schema, different errors appeared , and I’ve DELETED the middle ware\rcu_Home folder and Unzip the rcu.rar fresh file to the same directory
NOW
when I RUN rcu.bat and selected CREATE SCHEMA then RCU WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO CREATE SCHEMA FOR PORTAL , DEV , UCM ..and also they appear in combo box to select
BUT I’ve ALREADY DROP THAT
I think it only droped not DELETED
tell me the sqlplus commands fro DELETE schema. and also tell if it is DANGEROUS to delete some schema(example DEV schema) as I’m developing portal via WEB CENTER -Jdeveloper(integrated weblogic) , Xe , RCU, UCM )

I think I cant develop satisfactory app in hours if any I can tell me that HOW TO IMPLEMENT THAT SPECIFIC Requirement AND FEATURE .. its easy I think ..and I will InshaALLAH .. its do or die for me
Sir in 1 day I can finalize and develop UI ..(JSF pages and this bindings and template )
for its Content I was Started UCM and then I stuck ,
I Basically need to provide JSF Pages and portlets for Users (Student groups - Project Supervisors - Project Coordinator )
I have to create Users and their Pages(Project Coordinator - Project Supervisor and STUDENT Group's)
1)Project Coordinator is the Head Who Allocated Project Supervisors to the Student Group in response to Messages(sent from the portlet at home page)from the students that desire to make group and want desire supervisor . in response to this message the Supervisor can Reply and ASK FOR MEETING and the the coordinator has the authority to ALLOCATE
2)Project Coordinator Create PLAN (1 year Plan) in tabular form (for example Project Group Supervisor and Its STUDENT GROUP has to Deliver 20 MILESTONE Deliverable throughout the year(Project group Supervisor can Divide Each MILESTONE into TASK and SUB TASKS...and Student Group has to Upload )
Supervisor can give the task to student group and student group has to upload /Submit the required Deliverable /(task file ) supervisor within the given period MARK THIS TASK AS AN OK AND GIVE ANOTHER TASK OR ASK FOR METING
in this way We achieve/provide
Provide Central Repository for the Whole Software Projects that are Valuable ..
ALSO DOCUMENT TRACEABILITY is achieved
Workflow management (Task given and submission and meetings and attendance etc)
This Functionality plus Basic ADF and WebCenter built in Functionality can also improve Collaboration and Productivity and Performance
I've very less time AND willing to work.... waiting for Help and suggestions -
