About QoS configurable thresholds...

Hey,
I was reading through QoS guides and got confused about the threshold things.......
According to document,
you can use following command to configure maximum memory allocation for egress queue.
mls qos queue-set output qset-id threshold queue-id drop-threshold1 drop-threshold2 reserved-threshold maximum-threshold
you can use following command to configure allocated memory for egress queue.
mls qos queue-set output qset-id buffers allocation1 ... allocation4
So now questions:
1. Why queue-set? There will be 4 queue for egress anyway...
2. If queue-set is useful feature, Why no queue-set for ingress?
3. Why multiple thresholds? For ingress, there will be one threshold per queue.
4. When is drop-threshold1 used? When will drop-threshold2 used?
Thanks,
/S

  • Exchange 2013 - The Microsoft Exchange Transport service is rejecting message submissions because the service continues to consume more memory than the configured threshold

Noticed at about noon that no emails had been received all day. Began to investigate and found that the MS Exchange Transport service had been set to deny email submission because it was using too much memory on the server (91%).
The error message makes me think that we may have been getting used by malware or something similar.“The Microsoft Exchange Transport service is rejecting message submissions because the service continues to consume more memory than the
    configured threshold.”
There are also several warning messages that list particular IP addresses and say that a connection from that IP was denied because there were already the maximum number of connections (20).
From what I can tell, all of the IP addresses are from Taiwan.
The time period for which some emails may be missing is from close of business yesterday ( 4/3/2014) through about 12:45 today (4/4/2014).
From the time I spent reading and trying to figure out the error, I think we may need to readjust our throttling policies to prevent this from happening.
The exchange server is currently running at 90%+ CPU and 50%+ memory usage the majority of the time, and I’m not sure how to fix it.
Also, I cannot get into EMS I get a access denied message from the destination computer. (Exchange server) I want to get into there to change the throttling policy back to default, since we disabled it.
    The Error reads:
The WinRM client cannot process the request. The WinRM client tried to use Kerberos authentication mechanism, but the destination computer <Exchange> returned an 'access denied' error. Change the configuration to allow Kerberos authentication
mechanism to be used or specify one of the authentication mechanism supported by the server. (How do I do this?) To use Kerberos, specify the local computer name as the remote destination. (I'm trying to use EMS while logged into the local Exchange server)
Also verify that the client computer and the destination computer are joined to a domain. (Exchange is on our domain, and the computer trying to connect is the same computer) To use basic, specify the local computer name as the remote destination, specify
Basic authentication and provide user mane and password. Possible authentication mechanisms reported by server.

I assumed control of this exchange system already in place and I do not have much experience with exchange 2013 or server 2012. I do know 2008, but that doesn't help very much in this situation.
    Recent changes to the system:
About three days ago we switch our sessions policy to allow many more connections, and I believe this caused the issue. This is what I changed it to:
Made the registry DWORD (32-bit) "Maximum Allowed Sessions Per User" and modified the value to 1000. Location of registry change @ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem
I just changed it to 10 from the 1000. I'm hoping this solves this. So far no.
Also, I am not the best in the shell or command line interfaces. Any help would be wonderful!

    Hi,
Yes, could be hardware performance issue. Try recycle the Transport process and see if the issue persists.

  • Question about QOS

We have a multi site network that is connected together via a managed ATM network The ATM network is our "core" network and we have no control over it. THe question I have is about how QoS would work over the core. We have QoS configured on all of our "Edge" switches at each site. I would figure that traffic going through the core would not adhere to our QoS policy but once the traffic gets to another site I would assume it would start using the QoS qualities that were assigned to the packet. Is this right?

    Yes, you are correct.

  • Question about QoS in Wireless

    Hi,
I've spent some time reading about QoS in Wireless but can't get my head around a few things. QoS is a confusing subject.
In the WLANs -> Edit WLAN you can set a QoS profile, from Bronze to Platinum, as shown in the picture.
    1) Does this level tag ALL traffic on the WLAN to Platinum if the client does not tag the traffic itself to other values? In other words, is Platinum the default level?
    2) I've read that this setting is the maximum level of QoS permitted on the WLAN, in that case I should set it to Platinum if I have VOIP traffic and regular DATA traffic on the same WLAN? For instance Lync/Skype?
    3) How does this relate to AVC profiles? I've prioritized certain apps (lync gets DSCP 46) and down-prioritized others (youtube gets DSCP 10), will the values I've defined be tagged with Platinum since I set the WLAN QoS profile to Platinum? Or will they retain their original value as I defined in AVC Profiles.
    4) Which clients are not WMM compatible? It seems almost all regular computers support WMM.
Can someone confirm the following QoS is true for the wired infrastructure: WLC ports are mls qos trust cos and AP ports are mls qos trust dscp. But what about trunks between switches and the uplink to your ISP? trust dscp?
Will be thankful if someone can shed some light on this.

    1) Does this level tag ALL traffic on the WLAN to Platinum if the client does not tag the traffic itself to other values? In other words, is Platinum the default level?
    NO
    2) I've read that this setting is the maximum level of QoS permitted on the WLAN, in that case I should set it to Platinum if I have VOIP traffic and regular DATA traffic on the same WLAN? For instance Lync/Skype?
Yes, this is max level allowed. you should tag to platinum if you have VOIP clients. i dont think skype sends data with priority voice. not sure about lync.
    3) How does this relate to AVC profiles? I've prioritized certain apps (lync gets DSCP 46) and down-prioritized others (youtube gets DSCP 10), will the values I've defined be tagged with Platinum since I set the WLAN QoS profile to Platinum? Or will they retain their original value as I defined in AVC Profiles.
wlan setting takes precedence over AVC if i recall correctly
    4) Which clients are not WMM compatible? It seems almost all regular computers support WMM.
yes all modern clients are WMM compatible. you need WMM compatibility for 11n/ 11ac rates
Can someone confirm the following QoS is true for the wired infrastructure: WLC ports are mls qos trust cos and AP ports are mls qos trust dscp. But what about trunks between switches and the uplink to your ISP? trust dscp?
trunks are usually trust cos and access ports are usually trust dscp. you need to make sure end to end qos is configured properly.

  • Switchport QoS configuration for WLC

    Hi guys,
I am having a question about switchport QoS configuration for WLC. In the "enterprise mobility deployment guide 4.1", it says we can use both either "mls qos trust cos" or "mls qos trust dscp", depending on the mapping, however looking through Jerome's video tutorial on QoS in youtube, he actually mentioned that we need to keep this value as "mls qos trust cos", and I have also read from somewhere else that since controllers are layer 2 device, we do need to use "mls qos trust cos" on the switchport directly connected to the WLC.
however I did see some configurations using "mls qos trust dscp" on the switchport, which is for 5508 WLC due to some hardware design in the 5508 WLC. so I just want to ask what is the differnece between these two commands when we use them for switchports connected to WLC, and does this command really specific for what controller platform we use or it only depends on code version?
thank you very much for your time and help.

    Hi George,
Thanks for your reply, however I am still a bit confused on the difference between the two commands...
so in the deployment guide it does say we can do either one on the switchports connected to the WLC, so when should we use trust dscp instead of cos?
it sort of make sense when we talk about WLC is a layer 2 device hence we should use cos, but we also have packets marked with dscp values and I think the controller will keep the value without any modification, then that means we can also use trust dscp in order for this mapping to be done correctly, is this correct?
I did see some other people saying that when using turst dscp and did a packet capture, the values cannot be mapped correctly, but there are also cases that this works. expecially with 5508 series controllers, does it really have some hardware features that doing different things than the 4404s and the 2100 series?
but still, in what situation should we trust dscp on switchports connecting to WLC and when should we use trust cos as a best practice? or we should just forget about trust dscp for switchport connecting to WLC?
    Thanks.

The function of each command is perhaps best explained by the Command Reference and Software Configuration Guide for your IOS version.  If you have a question that's unanswered by those, please post another question.  BTW, Cisco also publishes whitepapers that further explain some subjects.  There are a couple on 3750 QoS.
Regarding whether a particular command is necessary would depend on what your QoS policy is attempting to accomplish.

  • Is there any limitation of firmware or hardware for QoS configuration (4400 controller & 1252 AP's)

    Hi Experts,
Before proceeding for adding AP model 1131 and 1252 into my set-up , I need to know whether any limitation of firmware or hardware for QoS configuration in wireless set-up .
    I have 4400 controller and 1130 & 1250 AP models.

    Hi Vinod,
Since you have 4400 controllers, you can run upto WLC 7.0.x code. Refer this for more detail
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html
there is no specific limitation to 1131/1252 AP model as such, everything is WLC software dependent.
From later software 7.4.x,7.6.x,8.x, lots of improvement for QoS configuration & bandwidth control, but since your controller is old hardware, you cannot have those latest features.
here is a reference post on how QoS works in wireless environment

  • QoS Configuration for NME-AIR-WLC

    Hello,
I have a question on the correct QoS configuration for a VoIP deployment. I have followed the steps referenced here but have two questions..
    1) The last recommendation in the list is to set DCA channel sensitivity to High to avoid changes during business hours. I think this should be Low? The manual states "Low—The DCA algorithm is not particularly sensitive to environmental changes."
    2) The recommendation is to trust dscp on AP uplinks and to trust cos on the WLC uplink. However I can't find any configuration guidelines for configuring QoS if the WLC in question is an NME hosted in a 2921.
2a) The link between the switch and the 2921 is an 802.1q trunk so should I trust cos on this link rather than dscp?
2b) What configuration should be on the 2921? Create a policy-map and apply it to the uplink port?
2c) Should there be a service policy assigned to the In1/0 interface for the WLC itself?
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Well I appear to have answered question 2 after I stopped being lazy and did some packet captures.
No configuration required on 2921 as packets captured from In1/0 and Gi0/0 show correct DSCP markings on RTP and SCCP packets.
Would still be interested to know on question 1 though.

Who can provide a link about advanced configuration of Java.util.logging?

Want to implement configurable handler attributes. For each handler has its own attribute set. I tried to implement a few handlers that extend FileHandler (actually the handlers do nothing, just for distingusih purpose), and put the customized handler attributes in configuration file and use logManager.readConfiguration() to load the configuration, somehow it does not work, but if I change the handler to standard handler like FileHander in configuration file, it works.

I have few questions about QOS
    1) Can qos policy only be applied at incoming frame/packets or it can also be applied at outgoing frames?
2)Is it correct that qos policy for incoming frames , will decide the queue the frames be at placed ingress port?
    3) Is it correct that qos policy for outgoing frames, decides the queue the frames be placed at egress port?
    4) Is it possible to trust the Cos/dscp in frame/packet and have qos policy for outgoing frames ?
    5) Scenario:
When f0/1 is in trunk mode:
    sw1(config)# int f0/1
    sw1(cofig-if)mls qos trust dscp
when switch receives the frame, will it drive the cos value from dscp-cos map and place the frame in appropiate queue?
When f0/1 is not access mode:
When a switch receives the frame , Would switch drive the cos value from DScp-cos map even though the port is in access mode and place the frame in appropiate queue at ingress port?

  • QOS configuration for Wireless voice over IP

HI, I've been asked to install approx 5 wireless phones on a network that consists of the following:-
    1 x 4006 core switch
    8 x 3550 Access switches
6 x 1100 AP's (that are connected to the Access switches.
My question is this - does anyone have a basic QoS configuration that I can place onto the LAN infrastructure (Core/Access switches).
    Kind Regards

Should refer to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_implementation_design_guide_book09186a00802a029a.html. Also Cat 4K should have Sup2+ or higher to support voice.

  • SRW Series QoS configuration for VoIP

    Hello Cisco experts,
I have SRW224G4 switch in an office connected to the internet through port1, Asterisk server through port 9, Internal computers through ports 16-24.
Currently, voice is cutting in the inbound direction when computer users are using Internet. I am trying to make some QoS configuration in which remote IAX2 phone, which uses UDP port 4569, will not be affected by Internet usage made by internal computers.
I have logged in to the switch management webpage, I found a section for (QoS), but I need some help in specifying which parameter should I configure.
Internet connection speed is 1mbps DL / 512kbps UL. I can configure Asterisk to mark packest with some TOS if required.

One way to do it would be to configure Asterisk to assign a DSCP value of 46 to voice packets.
    Then on the SRW224G4, use:
CoS Settings tab / QoS mode: Basic
Basic tab / Trust mode: DSCP
That would give priority to voice packets inside your network.
    Possible problems:
your ISP will most likely clear DSCP markings on packets going out of the network
rare case: your ISP might charge you more for packets marked with DSCP 46 (not likely on an ADSL connection)
bottleneck will be the ADSL router, so if possible, you should implement QoS based on DSCP on that device
if some PC based software uses DSCP markings, it'll get priority also
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    Tamas

    Hi,all
I have a question about JSTL configure. I' m learning jsp ,but i don't know how can i use the JSTL under the tomcat5.0 and jdk1.5 in the windows os.
I have installed the Tomcat 5.0 and jdk1.5 in the windows sys right, copyed the standard.jar and the jstl.jar to my working forlder'WEB-INF/lib forlder, and copyed the 15 .ltd file to the WEB-INF forlder. And i have configure the web.xml file .
    But JSTL did not worked.
I come from china,is a new. Who can help me,giving me some advises?

Make sure that you have the version 1.1 of jstl. Go to [url http://jakarta.apache.org/site/downloads/downloads_taglibs.html] this jakarta page and click on the jstl 1.1 taglibs.
Copy the jstl.jar and standard.jar onto WEB-INF/lib of your web application.
You neednt copy the tlds seperately. The server will pick up the tlds from the jar files. Neither need you have to have web.xml entries.
Specify that your web application complies to servlet 2.4 standards. Note Tomcat 5.x and above implements the servlet 2.4 spec.
Also your web.xml should have the following declaration
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee"
