AC adapter light misguiding

i recently brought a new hp pavillion 15 - e017TX with windows 8 inbuilt. when i switch it off and plug in the adapter after some times it shows white light (which means it is full charged ) and then when i start my laptop it indicates that it is not fully charged and starts charging again and white light also becomes amber.
thanks in advance

  • I had an abrupt powerfailure on my MAcbook. Power went of, the adapter light went of and since than nothing. Can't power up. I suspect a fasilure of the power supply unit. Some advice is welcome

Working hsppy on my macbook suddenly all power fell away. The adapter light went of and since than i have not been able to restart my macbook. I suspect a failure in the powersupply. Heard a little sound like blowing a fuse. Any suggestions?

I suggest you make an appointment at the genius bar at an Apple store and take your Macbook in for a comprehensive diagnosis. This service is free. If repairs are needed you will be given an estimate.

  • Laptop won't turn on - the power adapter light flashes three times? G62 b29SA

I've been replacing the fan in my friend's laptop. I had a problem with the trackpad not working after I put it back together and that problem is not yet resolved but I have another problem preventing me from getting further. Now when I press the on button, the power adapter light (next to the socket for the external power) flashes three times and that's all. It flashes again three times every time I press the power button. It does this even with an external power source plugged in (I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to just stay on constantly when the charger is plugged in but the power source I have is a universal one set to 19 V - it has powered up with this plugged in before but I don't know whether it was taking charge from it). Any advice?
    This question was solved.

I got the charger from my friend and now it boots up just fine. There seem to be many meanings to the three flashes based on my Internet searches but in this case it appears that it's some way of indicating a low battery.

  • AC adapter light

The adapter light turns orange when shut down, but then goes blue once turned off; should i be concerned about this or is this quite normal?
    Cheers,
    Grant-

    Hi Grant,
It's quite normal, mine turns Orange on shutdown and then goes White ( in my case ) about 30 seconds later ( providing the battery is fully charged - if the battery is not fully charged when you shutdown, you will find the LED will stay Orange until the battery charge reaches 100% ).

  • Adapter light GREEN but battery does not charge NEED HELP, PLEASE!

My battery won't charge but the problem is a little different from others I have seen posted. The battery shows 3% charge but the adapter light is green. If the computer adapter is disconnected, the computer shuts down (as we would expect at 3% charge). I used another MacBook Pro cord to plug in and the same thing happens.

I purchased this 15" MacBook Pro (Oct 2006) from a reputable non Apple Apple dealer but f course this problem started a week or so after it was out of their resale warranty. There is nothing to say "check battery" just that it is not charging. It is a trek to ANY apple dealer or reseller and it is hard for me to get there easily so I was hoping someone might have an idea what is wrong and do what I can from home. Could it just be the battery? It seems more like a problem with the adapter connection. OCCASIONALLY, the light on the adapter will flicker on orange/red for a few seconds before going to green.
    THANKS!

The only way to tell if you have a hardware problem is to trek on down to your local AS or AASP for them to run some diagnostic tests. If it turns out to be just the battery, you can purchase directly from them. I am assuming you do not have AppleCare....
Not sure if you can run the same tests at home. Hopefully, you have the right tools. Search through the following "do-it-yourself" sites:

Also do a YouTube search. Loads of Macbook Pro +"how to"+ videos.

  • MacBook Pro 17" power adapter lights orange when NOT plugged into laptop.

My MacBook Pro power adapter lights up orange even though it is not plugged into a device. When I do plug it into my laptop it remains the same and does not charge. Due to this my laptop is now dead. What does this orange light mean?

You should take both your MBP(Macbook Pro) and your power adapter to an Apple Genius bar or an AASP(Authorized Apple Service Provider) for a free evaluation. This is a strange occurance, and it seems that it may be a hardware malfunction.
Make an appointment so you don't have to wait too long.

  • MacBook (late 2010) won't turn on. Power adapter is working when I attached it to another MacBook. Adapter light is very faint on my 2010 but normal on other MacBook! Help!!

My MacBook(late 2010) wont come on & it's not the power adapter because it works on older MacBook! When plugged into my Mac the adapter light is VERY VERY faint though! I tried resetting the  but it didn't work! please help!!

You should try resetting the SMC first and if that doesn't help you should probably take it in for service. It may be as simple as a bad battery or could also be a failed MagSafe circuit.
    To resetthe SMC
Newer Mac portables with a battery you don't remove
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Please give a once-and-for-all rundown of power cord/adapter light colors!

I have read conflicting accounts of what colors the little light ring that hooks into the side of my G4 should be when it is charging, charged, and in danger/bad mode... Will someone PLEASE just give me the definitive list? What does green mean? What does orange (amber?) mean? How about red?
    Thanks!

Red or blinking/flashing (any color) means you have some sort of hardware problem that needs to be resolved. No light at all when it's connected to your Powerbook means your AC adapter has shut down because of noise in the AC power supply, or if you've already reset the adapter by unplugging it from the wall outlet for a minute or so and then plugged it back in again, and the light still doesn't come on, your DC-In card is bad.

  • Adapter light stays on even after removing from MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro. I noticed something odd last night. When I remove the adapter from the MacBook Pro (you know, the magnetic end that attaches to the MacBook Pro), the light on the adapter still stays green/on. I actually have to unplug the adapter from the wall outlet to make the light turn off. This never happened before.
Has anyone seen this before? Any advice?
    Thanks.

I think that the light is controlled by the middle pin in the connector. Check it very carefully with a magnifying glass to see if any of the pins are bent or if there is any metalic dust in there.

  • Power adapter light is dim, new power adapter no light at all

My power adapter went dim and wouldn't charge. I bought a new adaptor and this one doesn't light up at all. Any ideas? tried different outlets that have worked for other electonics. Did I just buy a second adaptor coincindentally?

  • Power adapter light not working

The other day the LED light was stuck on green, even when laptop was not fully charged and even when I pulled it out of the computer!
Now, the light doesn't come on at all and it doesn't seem to be charging the computer. The battery indicator on the screen is showing that it is connected, but when I unplug the power adapter, the battery is not charged.
I've tried blowing out any dust/debris, and making sure all of the prongs are properly functioning. Any other advice?

Stop by an Apple Store, if you can, and test using a different AC adapter. If that works, your adapter is faulty. If it doesn't, your computer probably is.

  • AC adapter light not working

When charging my Macbook Pro sometimes the indicator LED light doesn't come on at all.  Everytime I checked when the LED isn't working the computer still charges, but I am not sure if when I leave it sometimes if it is charging correctly since the LED doesn't work periodically.  I am also wondering if this is an issue with the adapter, rather then the actual computer port.  If it is the computer port I don't feel comfortable with sending it out for repairs if its just a small issue.  I guess what I am trying to see is if anyone else has experienced this issue.  I would much rather go to the apple store and recieve a new adapter, and if the issue persists I can send it in for repairs.  Please if anyone has experience with the same trouble I have had let me know.  Thank you in advance.
    -Andrew

May be the adapter is not working properly.
Take the MBP and MagSafe/Power Adapter to the Apple store  for evaluation.

  • Adapter light stays on all the time...

My battery stopped charging on my MacBook a couple of weeks ago and since then it's had it's DC Inboard replaced, logic board replaced and battery replaced.
When I first got home with it last night the adapter was not working - just showed that it was plugged in but not charging - dh has a MBP and my adapter didn't work with his either and his power cord worked fine on my computer.
Today - tried my adapter again and it worked - but light stayed green even when it was charging - unplugged from my computer and the light stayed on, unplugged from the wall and the light still stayed on for a bit. Plugged it in again, didn't work at all. Plugged it in again with three prong into wall and it worked - is charging with amber light on right now however, when I unplug it from my computer the amber light just stays on. Also - my battery is 100% and the amber light did not change to green, said that it was still charging?
Am I making any sense at all? Do I need to get a new adapter or what the heck is going on now???
Thanks for any help you can offer.

The problem was the adapter itself - got it replaced and have had no problems!

  • Power adapter light goes out & battery kicks in + random shutdowns

    Hi,
there's a few weird things going on the last couple of weeks.....i'm wondering if any of them could have to do with the 10.4.9 update that i installed and really screwed up my mac.....it took an hour+ on apple tech support to do the re install because it would not load after i did that update.
so here's the screwy things that have been happening:
sometimes the light on the power adapter just goes off and the battery kicks in - i'm wondering why it does that........and sometimes the power light goes off the computer just shuts down at the same time really fast.......like in less than a second.....i'll wait a little bit and start up again and it'll happen again........but sometimes it'll fine for quite a while and then boom.......it shuts down again.
also, sometimes it's sleeping and when i pop the top the light on the adapter cord goes out.
also, the sleep light is not on when i am using it but goes on when i put it to sleep
i contacted apple (no apple care and past the 90 phone support) and they are sending a new power adapter cord.....the guy at tech didn't know if this was a hard drive issue (which means i could send it back and get it fixed for free cuz of warranty) so we're trying a new cord first and see what happens.
has this happened to anyone? my mac pro is about 5 months old....
    thanks,
    itsmesunny

    Hi,
actually the cord came today........and the other part - the square white thing with the cord connection to the mac with the magnet...... is coming separately - i found out after calling them and asking them where the rest of it was (he said maybe it was from a different warehouse was why they weren't together).......is that the "magsafe" that you're referring to?
when that comes i hope that when i hook it up it fixes the problem......i'm using my oldie but goodie ibook now until it's working ok....
the guy did not ask me to reset the smc.........i guess cuz i don't have apple care or tech support now that's all he was willing to do - send me a free power adapter and see if that works first - he said it was $49 to do anything else but if it was determined to be a hard drive issue then it would be free and refunded to me and i could send it back.
you know i think it depends on who you talk to......sometimes they help me even if i don't have the tech support.
so anyway when i get the adapter i'll hook it up and see if it's a go...
    thanks,
    itsmesunny
PS apple is quick - both times i've sent stuff to them i have gotten it back almost immediately. i talked to the guy yesterday and it was here today....can't beat that!

  • Adapter Light Always Red, Battery Charge Never Gets Past 99%

    Hi.
My 2007 MacBook Pro's adapter is now showing only the orange/red light and never getting green. Also, the taskbar never shows 100% battery charge when the adapter is plugged in, but it does when you first remove the adapter.
My battery life is pretty short nowadays (never more than 45 to 60 minutes) and it's getting pretty hot near where the adapter connects. My fans seem to be running a lot more than usual, too.
    Any ideas?

    Do non-OEM batteries exist?
"Third-party" may be the better-understood term (I get "OEM" but others may not). Yes, there are some out there. However, one key item makes me nervous about them.
Other World Computing (OWC) sells an amazing number of Mac add-ons and replacement parts. It's my personal experience that they give excellent service after the sale, standing behind what they sell. OWC carries third-party batteries for Mac portables going back to the G3 Wallstreet, but they do not list any MBP batteries. This makes me think that they don't have confidence in what's out there.
Here is a site listing third-party MBP batteries (scroll down a bit):
    http://www.global-batteries.com/index.php/cPath/1_12/sort/2a/page/1
Note that the prices aren't much less that what Apple charges, especially for the 17: model. I ordered a battery for a Wallstreet PowerBook from that vendor and it was identical to an Apple-branded battery yin every way except the sticker on it. It was a good battery, but I have no way of knowing if their MBP batteries are from the same vendor as the Wallstreet batteries.
