Access Connection 5.2 loss of wwan

Hi All
To fix a connection issue on my x301 running XP, I have today nstalled the latest Access connection 5.2. However after installing this I get a failure message at startup:
"The system contains incompatible Wireless Wan drivers. To access wireless wan functionality please get latest drivers and install them on your system"
However my system has the latest WWan driver which on the download site for AC 5.2 is listed as:
Wireless WAN (Vodafone and AT&T - HSDPA) 1.0.1046.215
Which corresponds to my driver, now the GPS and WWAN does not work. I have tried to uninstall and re install the WWAN driver but without luck. Any body out there having same problem and perhaps a fix?
regards

Hello,
here´s  the same problem. It´is not a X-Series, but AC problem.
It seems that AC 5.20 need a newer wwan driver which isn´t availiable a the support page til now.

  • Access connection loses WWAN settings when rebooting

After upgrade to version 5.31, Access connection loses my wwan location profile when rebooting.  It will revert to a profile named Mobile broadband. I can then edit this profile, but it will be lost when robotting next time.
I am using the Erricson wwan modem.
    Any ideas ?
    /MF

    Hi,
    try to make following:
    - delete all WWAN profiles in AC profile list
    - delete the WWAN driver
    * reboot
    - install the WWAN driver back
    * reboot
-create the WWAN profile, that you need and reboot again, so that you just verify, that the profile is saved.
Btw: in the past I had this same issue and you would not believe, but it was caused by the fact, that I have used old version of Power Management dirver and Power Manager.
By my previous issue was the fix following:
    - delete AC
    - delete WWAN
    - install:
    1) Power Maangement driver
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4GXPEG
    2) Lenovo System interface driver

    4) Power Manager
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70601
    5) Wifi driver (optional, because I have used the old version of this driver)
    6) WWAN driver
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70000
    7) Access Connection
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67283
The installation order was the root cause in my case.
I would advice to use the latest versions from the Lenovo.com site, as if you are using one app with new and one with old version, then it might cause trouble.
Let me know, if that made any change.

  • Loss of wireless radio control via Fn+F5 - without Access Connections

    Hi everyone,
I run Windows XP on my X41. I do not have Access Connections installed, and I do not wish to install it. I have recently updated my wireless drivers, and have since lost the ability to control the power settings via Fn+F5. When I press Fn+F5, the following is displayed:
Change Power Settings of Wireless Radios
Unable to change power state of 802.11 Wireless Radio.
Update the driver for the wireless adapter.
I have removed and re-installed the hotkey, wifi and power management software, to no avail.
    Any help would be welcome.
Also, can anyone explain what the different utilities that come with the Intel PROSet achieve? Specifically, WMI support.
    Thanks in advance.
X41 1.5GB RAM (Looking for a cheap 1.8" SSD or CF solution)

Hi, in my experience you need the ProSet portion of the Wireless driver installed to activate the Fn+F5 functionality. Installing the ProSet provides the AEGIS protocol for the wireless card.
If you check in the Properties of the Wireless card (through Control Panel>>Network Connections and right click the wireless connection) you should see the AEGIS protocol in the item list of the 'General' tab. If the protocol is not present try running the ProSet install of the wireless driver, and check the protocol is present, and this should fix the problem of Fn+F5.
    Hope this helps.

  • Access Connections / WLAN / Win7 x64 / 5300 AGN / connection loss

    Hi there,
I'm experiencing some Problems with Access Connections. Most of the time I'm using my T500 with a dockin station and a wired network. No problems so far. But when i undock it and start using WLAN its only a matter of time until it looses Connection. Something about 5mins. Access Connections states its connected and the signal strength is perfect, but the small Network manager Icon from Windows says its not. And in fact, i can't ping the access point or my gateway. ipconfig shows the correct ip configuration, but there is no connection any more (access connection still claims to have a perfect connection).
When I disconnect via Access Connections and try to reconnect it fails. Not completely but obtaining a new IP from the DHCP-Server fails. So my Nic is configureg with 169.x..x.x (aka crap)
Restarting AcPrfMgrSvc and AcSvc did the trick for about 5min, then I had the same problem again.
Looks like Access Connections and Windows aren't "best friends".
The 5min problem seems to be caused  by some power saving function, but I don't want to disable them.
Win7 x64 is a fresh installation ( btw. to get all the needed drivers is a nightmare!)
Anybody knows this problem? Any fix from lenovo?
    Would be nice!
    Kind regards

Yes basically you have to disallow Windows to turn off the device automatically.
Because Access Connection doesn't replace Network and sharing center but works in addition with it, there is some settings have to be modified in windows.
If not allowing windows to turn off the device is not enough to solve your problem, you can gon in access connections>tools>global settings and untick allow the wireless LAN radio to be turned off when inactive.
With your comparision with an hybrid car, if your not allowed to switch to save fuel and you can't fix it you have to choices don't use it or use fuel.

  • Access Connections issues

I am very frustrated with my machine, I ordered and received a L512 Thinkpad with no troubles, but the internet connectivity is not functioning properly and it is making me anxious for the future, as I need this laptop to participate in my Grad School's online live synchronous classes that begin Jan 13th.
the Network Access does not seem to function correctly at all.  It will say it is connected to the internet at my home, but suddenly quit loading anything, despite still showing status as "connected", and won't do anything internet-related until i disconnect and reconnect.
other times it won't connect at all, saying my BIOS radio is off, despite the button on the front right being "on" and having never modified anything about this myself.
my girlfriend has an HP laptop and sits right next to me and hers works fine, other computers in the house work fine, it is not a network problem, it is a problem with my machine.
other times the internet will be working but the access connection status will have the red x and say disconnected.  then eventually it will have a lapse and not work until i disconnect and reconnect.
i bought this computer to do my online synchronous classes for grad school.  if it keeps dropping off the internet, this will be unacceptable for my needs of class participation.
all of the support online and in the thinkvantage have not helped.  i ran all the tests in the thinkvantage under diagnostics, and when it is connected it says everything works great, but then when it unexpectedly drops the internet, it gives me no help on why or how to fix it.
i am at a loss, and am thinking of trying to return the machine and go with something else, but as i've taken it out of the original box, and have read the general discussion forum threads on returns and customer service, i'm quite afraid to even attempt that process
the whole experience makes me want to cry.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
try to disable firewall and Antivir. Sounds like this might change the sitation.
The fact, that this is present also without Access Connection is not that much surpricing, as AC is mainly using the Windows network manager, so this is more like a nice GUI for network management with advanced functionality.
Anyway, try to focus more on the Windows even log to see, what might be wrong.
Also I would try to start command line and run following command:
    ping www.google.com -t
And let it run. Once the issue will be there, check if there really is a netowrk connectivity in this command line (if it pings, then you are still online, if not, you are off)
    Cheers

  • Access Connections 5.20 VERY VERY SLOW, produces errors...

I just installed the latest version of Access Connections, 5.20, on my T400, and whenever I open it to do ANYTHING, it pegs the processor and responds extremely slowly (I'm talking 5 to 10 seconds to respond to a mouse click).
Also, after I installed it, I got the message: "The system contains incompatible wireless wan drivers"
What  the heck is Lenovo doing out there?  A bright shiny new version of Access Connections, and it makes my laptop even less usable than before!
    Anyone having this problem?
    - Tim

Yes, please wait with updating AC cause the needed driver aren´t online till now.
Reverting back to AC 5.12 should reactivate WWAN function.

  • Access Connections and Group Policy generated network profiles

    Hello,
We are in the middle of rolling out 3500 T400 machines and are having fits with Access Connections 5.02. We have a default in-house Preferred Wireless Network Profile that is created on each machine via Group Policy. This works fine with AC and everything does what is supposed to do when our users are in our buildings. When our users go offsite, we have nothing but fits with AC and trying to set up any other WAN connections.
If users set up a new network connection, we are asking them to set it up thru AC. We have had them try using both the "Use Windows to Configure Wireless Network" as well as "IEEE 802.1X Authentication". Once the network connection is set up, for some, the wireless will work for a short period (a week or so) and then will no longer detect network connections.  The user nor the client site has made any changes to the wireless configuration.
Others will have a stable connection wirelessly until they connect over VPN – VPN will drop in a few minutes after connection.  They can then sometimes reconnect after a reboot; but the instability is a constant problem.
It seems to me that the problem could all be traced back to GP enforcement, which occurs every 8 hours when connected to our network. If a user is offline for several days, then connects up to check email or transfer time or whatever, then they are kicked off. If a user connects via VPN, they are kicked off within minutes - again potentially traceable to GP enforcement.
Has anyone else dealt with this scenario of Preferred Wireless Network policies and Access Connections?
    Thanks!

Try going back to AC 4.52, which solved the problems i was having with AC5.02 (freezes, BSOD, loss of wireless connections when coming out of standby, GUI problems) on Vista Home Premium.  Scroll down for prevous versions of AC5.02 here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67283
I do not use a VPN system so AC4.52 may not help your 3500 Thinkpads.
Lenovo (Mark_Lenovo) knows there are problems with AC5.02 for the last three (or more ) months and have stated that AC 5.1 will solve the problems, but it has not been released as far as I know. There are many threads on AC5.02 on this forum and also on thinkpads.com
the Lenovo Blog site also has an update on AC5.02 ;under "Design Matters" on how they selected the graphics for wireless connections - the responses there offer some suggestions to fix the problems.

  • Access Connections 5 and up issues

    Hi,
For years our organization has been using Access Connections 4.52 flawlessly.  Recently we purchased a boat load of R500 notebooks.  At this point, we were forced to upgrade to version 5.20 as 4.52 will not recognize the wireless card.
With 4.52, when a client would boot up wireless and attempt to login to our network , Access Connections would pop up, then attempt the login only AFTER it has connected to the network.  With 5.20, 5.33 and 5.50, this function seems to work ok until I sysprep the image.
After I sysprep our image, this is what happens:  User boots up wireless and attempts to login to our network....gets and error stating "OURDOMAIN is not available"....15 seconds later Access Connections wakes up and connects to the wireless network.  Now, here is the really dumb part.  I can resolve the issue on my image by opening Access Connections > Location Profiles > Select Profile > Edit > OK.   Access Connections will now behave properly, until I sysprep.
Is there any solution out there for this?  Or even better, is there a way I can make 4.52 work on a newer model.  4.52 did not have this issue.
    Thanks
    Rosy

    Hi,
I cannot see it being fair, to blaim Access Connection for situation, that is clearly not caused by Access Connection.
In the past I was working with multiple corporate images, which I of course had to create, which included syspreping the image. And I can tell you, that sysprepping a 100% working image is always, and I really mean ALLWAYS screwing up some part of the image. If you have been doing images for longer time, then surelly you will be agreed with me.
If you are not, then you have not created enough images manually (I mean starting with the times of RIS, going through WDS, IUB, SCCM .... ).
So much for understanding, where to look when you are looking for the root cause.
So Access Connection is a tool, that depends on other applications and driver. Almost the same as by all other TVT applicaitons. For Access Connection it's highly important, that it's installed in following order together with other tools/drivers:
    1) Power Managerment driver
    2) Power Manager
    3) System Interface driver
    4) Hotkey utility/driver
    5) LAN Driver
    6) WLAN driver
    7) WWAN driver
    8) Access Connection
It's highly important, that this order is kept.
So back to the imaging, here is what might happen, when you sysprep the image:
    - you sysprep it, where some parts (usually ini files) are remoted from the dirver installed on the machine.
    - of course you configure the sysprep to load up all the drivers depending on the HW, or some input from the client
    - this will load everything back and inclusiv all the drivers
    ISSUE:
    - WLAN, driver is installed/inicialized after Access Conenction was present in the image
    - by syspreping some of the above menitoned applications from Lenovo are taken as drivers and therefore, they are re-installed only after sysprep kicks-in
I'm pretty sure, that you know, how you install you image and by some points you might not be agreed with what I'm writing, but I was working with the informations, that I could find in your description.
I think more description on the sysprep, or the imaging tool and structure might help me imagine, what is goin on.
BTW: I just remembered, that by olders versions of AC 2.x and 3.x when such issue was present, like also LAN was not detected and all this happened after I installed a corporate image, then my fix for the image was quite simple:
Reinstall all the above drivers + apps in the order as you can see it in here .
    Cheers

  • Access Connections Upgrade/Verizon Aircard 5750 No Longer Usable

I have a Verizon 5750 which has always worked really well and has never had any configuration problems. I used the Verizon software to connect to the wwan.
I tried making a profile for it in Access Connections, but it doesn't connect. I am not entirely sure I have the connection setup correctly though, and I can't find the instructions to create the rofile beyond the fact that I can do so.
Verizon isn't of any help because the error is a "Windows error".
My company doesn't support these connections as such.
While it is true an error 720 is a Windows error, I think that either the card needs to be reactivated, or I am missing a setting somewhere that is not readily apparent.
I would get another card, but I suspect from what I am seeing on the web that I would still have the same problem.
Does anyone know the fix for this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Actually, I don't blame you. Being in an IT support organization myself I can well understand that there is no way any one team is going to cover everything.
It just so happens that in this case I can tell you what the fix is, figuring out the RC is actually the hardest part of this problem. I can give you my setup and what fixed the problem in my case.
Software: AT&T Global Dialer - ThinkVantage Connections 4.2
    Windows: XP SP-2
Hardware: T60 with standard 11a/b/g Wireless Lan Mini PCI Express Adapter
Original Problem: Mandatory corporate push upgrade of ThinkVantage Connections caused various problems with AT&T Dialer and network connectivity overall. General Windows Errors include Error 6 and Error 720 indicating that the adapters are not binding.
Real Problem: AT&T Dialer was uninstalled. (Rumor has it that the uninstaller for AT&T Dialer may not always complete an uninstall cleanly) If the program does not uninstall "right" it will corrupt the RAS files.
I searched the web and found the information and download that fixed my problem. There is an obscure MS Windows Utility named RAS Repair (rarepair.exe).
Here is the link I found points to the utility:
    http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/windows-xp-network/2711/Trying-to-locate-the-program-rarepai...
I ran the file and it fixed my problem immediately with no periphial impacts to programs etc.
Will this fix all 720 or 6 errors? I don't know, and obviously I take no responsibility I am only saying that it fixed my problem.

  • Problems with Ericsson F3507g card - does anyone understand Access Connections log files?

I am having big problems getting an f3507g mobile broadband card working on a T500 running XP Pro.
Have had problems with several machines all supplied in the same batch and it turns out that the BIOS needs to be reset to defaults post installation of the card for it to be properly recognised by the OS.
Anyway, all machines are now fixed with the exception of one....
Everything looks okay on the surface - the F3507g card is showing under Device Manager, just to be sure I've reinstalled Access Connections and loaded drivers for the card.  I know that the driver install was successful because it pinged up with the standard driver install success message - 'Windows found new hardware...' about half a dozen times immediately following the install.  Having done the driver install I attempted connection and the CA Internet Security Suite Firewall popped up asking whether I wanted to accept the device as a 'Safe' device - clicked yes to that.
    However, attempting connection never works
I've tried enabling logging and the log file produced together with a fault report is here.
I have tried the SIM card under test in another machine and it works. I have also swapped the HDD out of another identical brand new machine and it works with the hardware including the Ericsson card - so the issue has to be software related...
I could reimage but the user will loose some graphic design application software which is very difficult to reinstall.
Hope someone that understands Access Connections WWAN debug log files or has had a similar experience might be able to point me in the right direction...
    Many thanks

    @ Deadloss,
have you checked the power settings in the cards properties? Not that windows is turning it off?
Are you using a factory image or your own custom image, I'm thinking that maybe a reimage might help ??
    @ schm1tty,
T-Mobile SIMs work fine, what problems are you having? Maybe you could start a new thread so as not to hijack this one.

  • Fn+F5 without Access Connections?

Is any way to have working Fn+F5 shortcut (manage wireless and radios) without Access Connection application? I've removed AC and after that my Fn+F5 doesn't work. I've reinstalled Hotkey Features Integration but without success. Please help.
    happy x220 user

Well, what you need for hotkeys to work is also the power manager driver, not power manager, just the power manager driver.  Why not run System Update and let it install the hotkeys.  It'll automatically install the power manager driver also.
What I was getting at before is I think that you need the AC for the WWAN card to even work.  WirelessLAN and bluetooth will work without it, but I think that WWAN won't.

  • Latest access connections

I just updated to the latest access connections, and is it just me or is the green color of the 3 bar status indicator in the system tray much fainter than it was before. it almost looks like I have no signal, but if I looked really closely it's very light green. same deal with the signal strength color in the wireless connection status window.
please make it a darker green!

Question has to be why Lenovo changes already working and uninsteresting things like that instead of just fixing the MANY bugs that AC still has. With every new AC version they fix a few bugs and therefore introduce some new ones or regress some old ones.
Take my WWAN for example. Since the new WWAN cards from SonyEricsson etc are being sold, there is no more support for Sierra Wireless MC8775 built in my not-really-old-X300 and so on. The driver is horribly outdated, buggy and you are very lucky if you can properly connect at least for a short while.
I can only repeat: LENOVO, LISTEN, FIX and ONLY FIX. If EVERYTHING WORKS, think about GUI "improvements" like changing colors. A startup-time of more than 10 seconds to open a window or an already running program like AC is NOT ACCEPTABLE anyway. Press FN+F5andnothing happens for the next 10 seconds is an absolutely NO GO.

  • Vista SP2 and Access connections requiring manual reconnect

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem after the installation of Windows Vista SP2 on my Vista Business. After a reboot, I must always manually 1) disconnect the WLAN connection and then 2) reconnect to establish a working WLAN connection and to gain access to Internet. Before I disconnect, the WLAN connection is alive, but I cannot access any websites. Everything worked just fine before installation of SP2.
I'm running Access connections version 4.42 on Thinkpad R61. I've read that someone has had a similar problem with wired LAN and with newer version of Access connections: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasp/thread/17ba267e-0bb1-4621-b81f-04afa0d806...
