Access points wont accept clients on 2.4 GhZ

Hi
We are having some Issue with some Access Points are dropping clients on 2.4 GhZ radio, the radio is if you SSH to the Access Point "Dot11Radio0 is up, line protocol is up".
Our setup is 2 x Wism2 controller (7.5), a CPI (1.4), and around 750 Access points of various types (1121, 1131, 1142, 2602).
If we reset the Access Point from CPI it comes up and it will again accept clients on 2.4 GhZ for a random time period, sometimes it works for some hours, sometimes for a couple of days, total random.
The once we have seen the problem on is as I know 1142:
Software Version
7.5.102.0
Boot Version
12.4.23.0
AP Model
AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9
IOS Version
15.2(4)JA1$
Hope to get help finding a solution.
Best regards
Jørgen

If you have a high density deployment, you might want to look at your RRM. What is the power set to on the AP's. If the power is set too low, that can cause clients not to see or be able to join an access point. If this is the case, you need to set the min tx power level for the 2.4ghz radio which is under the wireless tab in the 802.11bgn TPC.
If you have an issue with a certain AP model, it might be a bug, but you didn't mention what model AP is was happening to.

  • LWAPP Access point wont advertise SSID's

I have a 4402 WLC and LWAPP AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9  connected to it.
I have been wrestling with the config for sometime now.
I have a laptop right next to it that wont see the SSIDs I have configured being broadcast.
I have no idea why but I do have the following errors in the log.

I notice the first error related to the GW IP, but I am not sure where this is specified and why it is mismatched.
I also dont know what the second error means either about the wrong VLAN.
    Please can anyone help!
    Many thanks,

Ok I now understand why I am not seeing any SSID's
I am actually troubleshooting this remotely and have a laptop sat next to the AP. The laptop has a hard wired connection that when connected disables the Wireless adpater. Its a HP nc6400 laptop. I am not sure if it is a laptop setting or a GPO.
So the not seeing the SSID is fixed.
When I shutdown the switchport for the laptop. I did see the laptop pick up a DHCP address in the wireless scope I configured.
However this actually only worked once which was wierd.
I solved the gateway mismatch by actually putting the correct gateway address into ap-manager interface.
But I am still left with the message

  • Certificate between Access point and Wireless client

    Hi;
is there anyway to configure a certificate between the wireless AP and clients to secure my username and the password.
    my setup is WLC5508/AP1142/ACS5.4
I need the client to trust  the certifcate before entering the UN/PW

    Hello,
As per your query i can suggest you the following solution-
LAP authorization can be performed in two ways:
Using the Internal Authorization list on the WLC
Using the MAC address database on an AAA server
The behaviors of the LAPs differ based on the certificate used:
LAPs with SSCs—The WLC will only use the Internal Authorization list and will not forward a request to a RADIUS server for these LAPs.
LAPs with MICs—WLC can use either the Internal Authorization list configured on the WLC or use a RADIUS server to authorize the LAPs
This document discusses LAP authorization using both the Internal Authorization list and the AAA server.

  • How the Access Point distinguishe the client's CW??

    Hi all
according to the figur i attached, we know that when a wireless client want to send traffic to the AP (in upstream direction), this client must select back-off time between 0 and CWmin. the Client's CWmin is given by the AP via the beacon frame.
Now if we have 3 clients as shown in the figure, and they want to send different traffic, how AP distinguishe which station want to send voice, which station want to send data and which station want to send video.??? on another meaning, does the AP give all clients the same CWmin in order for them to transmit traffic to the AP???
    Please help
    Thank you

    Naoufl:
You can not have different type of services on same WLAN. Each WLAN will have it's own services.
There should be one WLAN for data, one separate WLAN for voice and a third one for Video.
When a client tries to connect to data WLAN it uses data CW timers. the same for the others.
Clients connected to same WLAN can not use different CW timers. They will always use same timers if they are connected to same WLAN.
This is why you need to separate different services under different WLANs.
    Hope this is helping.

  • 11b client and 11g Access Point

Can 11g Access Point support 11b client ?
    i have a Access Point AIR-AP1231G-E-K9.
Users with a 11g client adaptor is able to login successfully, but users with 11b client adaptor is not able to login.
How should i configure that AP so that 11b client can login as well ?
Should i downgrade my access point back to pure 11b ?

    Hi
11b users should be able to log in, as this AP supports both 11b and 11g at the same time.
    Please try this:
    Under interface dot11Radio0, configure:
    speed default.
This should set data rates to factory default settings allowing both 802.11b and 802.11g client devices to associate to the access point’s 802.11g radio.

  • Clients and Access points?

Hello everyone! I have a specific question?
You can configure the controller to clients so that they can connect to certain access points. For example, we have 4 access points and 5 clients. Clients 1, 3, 4 can be connected to the APs 1, 3, but can not connect to the APs 2, 4. And clients 2, 5 can be connected to the APs 1, 2, 3, but can not connect to the AP 4.
And is it possible to carry out the same operations with SSIDs? For example SSID 1 see clients 1, 2, but don't see clients 3, 4, 5. And SSID 2 see clients 3, 4, 5, but don't see clients 1, 2.
    Or that is not practicable?

Why this approach. What is the business need. You can broadcast different SSIDs on different Aps via ap groups.

  • Setting time on 1130AG series Access Point

I noticed on one of my clients AP's which is an 1130AG series that it had a setting for SNTP. I was a little surprised that it did not have the capability to use regular NTP.
The SNTP servers configured for the AP were two Cisco routers.
Is this a common configuration? Is there a way to upgrade so that the AP's can use NTP?
The current code on the AP is 12.3(8)JA.
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    The commands for this changed from NTP to SNTP somewhere in the 12.2.x releases, so "older" AP IOS's did support NTP. Here is some info for 12.3.(4)JA;
Managing the System Time and Date
You can manage the system time and date on the wireless device automatically, using the Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP), or manually, by setting the time and date on the wireless device.
Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) is a simplified, client-only version of NTP. SNTP can only receive the time from NTP servers; it cannot be used to provide time services to other systems. SNTP typically provides time within 100 milliseconds of the accurate time, but it does not provide the complex filtering and statistical mechanisms of NTP.
You can configure SNTP to request and accept packets from configured servers or to accept NTP broadcast packets from any source. When multiple sources are sending NTP packets, the server with the best stratum is selected.
If multiple servers are at the same stratum, a configured server is preferred over a broadcast server. If multiple servers pass both tests, the first one to send a time packet is selected. SNTP will only choose a new server if it stops receiving packets from the currently selected server, or if a better server (according to the above criteria) is discovered.
    Configuring SNTP
SNTP is disabled by default. To enable SNTP on the access point, use one or both of these commands in global configuration mode:
    sntp server {address | hostname}
    [version number]
Configures SNTP to request NTP packets from an NTP server.
    sntp broadcast client
Configures SNTP to accept NTP packets from any NTP broadcast server
Enter the sntp server command once for each NTP server. The NTP servers must be configured to respond to the SNTP messages from the access point.
If you enter both the sntp server command and the sntp broadcast client command, the access point will accept time from a broadcast server but prefers time from a configured server, assuming the strata are equal. To display information about SNTP, use the show sntp EXEC command.
    Hope this helps!

  • N+1 & OfficeExtend Access Points

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there so I thought I'd ask you guys.
Is N+1 supported with OfficeExtend Access Point (OEAP) 600 clients supported?
I want to implement it on the following
    2* 8510 WLC's
    release 7.5

On any AP that joins the WLC including the OEAP 600, you can specify the access points high availability. That is the definition of N+1, specifying the primary, secondary and or tertiary wlc's.
I also just verified this on our lab network with OEAP 600's.

  • WRE54G as an Access Point?

i wonder, can you use WRE54G V3 as an Access point. have several here. and if i set up several at once to repeat each others signal, the speed will be decreased (right?) so if i configure it as i usually do, give it static ip, and add a nettwork cable at the front. it will become a access point right?
have a job setting up 8 of them. so it would be nice to know if its possible. or else i have to buy new ones instead of using the ones we have laying around here. couldnt seem to find any info about it. ((could be that i didnt search well enough.))

i will try testing it out anyway, had a friend who told me that if i set them up as explained above, and add them in different channels(so they wont disturb each others signals) it would work. but, he isn't a range expander expert. though he knows allot about access points. wont hurt trying anyway.
thanks for the reply. if it doesn't work, i will buy access points instead.

  • Securing Aironet 350 Access Point

    Hello -
My small network is operating correctly using the Aironet 350 Access Point and multiple clients. However, the setup is not secure.
How is it possible to secure access to our AP?
Specifically: I would like to establish a WEP key, as some devices (i.e. pocket-pc's) do not support more advanced security schemes.
    Thanks,

Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) authentication, also called 802.1x authentication, provides dynamic WEP keys to wireless users. Dynamic WEP keys are more secure than static, or unchanging, WEP keys.
For more details on configuring both types of WEP refer the following document,

  • SSH Version Supported by Access Points

    Hi,
I'm hoping this is an easy question...so apologies if it appears facile, but I can't find a definitive answer in any Cisco docs I've looked through.
When access points are used with a WLC, its possible to allow the access points to accept SSH connections (Under the advanced tab of the AP config).
My question is this: which version of SSH will be used when SSH sessions are created to the AP? (SSH v2?)
All of the data sheets etc. talk about SSH support, but give now version details.
    Thanks in advance.
    Nigel.

    Hi Nigel,
Scott is right (as usual )
Just to confirm, I accessed a CAPWAP AP and looked at the #sh derived-config and this was the only SSH output shown, with SSH enabled on the AP:
    ip ssh version 2
So, it looks like only SSH2 is allowed. Just to let you know the code ver was 7.0.116.0

  • Turning wrt54g into a access point

Need to know how to turn a wrt54g v8 into a access point and to connect to a a existing network.

If you want to turn your WRT54G into a wireless access point for wireless clients then follow these instructions.
If you want to turn your WRT54G into a wireless bridge (connecting two separated wireds LAN through a wireless link) or a wireless repeater (extending the wireless coverage of an other access point) this is not possible. Linksys WRTs do not connect to other access points with stock firmware.
You can try to install 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt. dd-wrt adds bridging and repeating capabilities.

  • Single access point with multiple ssids and single channel possible?

    Hi everybody.
    I have this silly question.
Let say we have three vlans, vlan1,2,3  and they are mapped to wlans as follows:
    Vlan 1  ssid1
    Vlan 2 ssid2
    Vlan3 ssid 3
                      AP --------trunk------Switchted network.
Our Ap  has mobile devices in three wlans, i.e ssid1ssid2 and ssid3
Since AP uses half duplex mode,  mobile devices need positive ack from ap  before they can send data,  therefore once channel let say channel 3( assuming 802.11b is used) can be shared by all mobile devices in three wlans.
    Is  my understanding correct?
Thanks and have a great weekend.

    Hii ,
Yes ,that is pretty much possible as suggested by other experts on board. Depending on your access point you will have 1 (2.4 GHz) or  both 2.4 & 5GHz radios.
You can configure multiple SSIDs (up to 16 ) known as MBSSID mode in autonomous environment. In Controller based architecture you can configure up to 512 WLAN (SSID) and transmit any 16 of them per AP (using AP group feature). However , it is recommended to keep multiple SSID count below 8 as for each SSID separate beacon will be sent on air which consumes more air time.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

  • Accept client according to their RSSI power in standalone access point

I want to only allow users that are near access point with high RSSI power and force other users with low RSSI power to connect to other nearest AP to them
I am using standalone AP 1130g

You can changed the data rates but that's global. You can disable the lower data rates on a given access point that only allows devices that can associate at 48mbps or 54mbps. If you want.
Here is a link that explains the data rates in an autonomous AP.
