Accessing a printer through WRT54GL?

I have a WRT54GL that is working fine. I have a desktop running XP connected to a port on the back of the WRT54GL for internet access.  I have a laptop running Vista which can access the internet wirelessly via the WRT54GL. All works well.  I have a printer that has been a dedicated connection to the desktop but I would like to be able to share access to the printer with the laptop over the wireless connection.  Can the WRT54GL be used to do this by connecting the printer to one of the ports on the back? Help!
Thanks.
wtridley

You didn't mention what printer you have, but if it's not network capable (no network interface port) then no, you can't do this without additional hardware.  If it is network capable, then it could be as easy as plugging it into the router and adding it as a network printer on your computers.
You could just share the printer through the desktop.  Only drawback is that you'll have to keep the desktop on to print.

  • Cannot access Canon printer through PC running Windows XP

    Hi all,
New MacBook owner here. Loving the experience, although ran into my first problem last night: through a student purchase, received a new Canon Pixma i3500 with the MacBook. Prints lovely photos, but I was hoping to set it up like my other printer -- plugged into my desktop, which runs Windows XP, and shared wirelessly through there. After all, it seems silly to get a laptop and then be tethered to a cable for certain functions.
Here's a breakdown of my problem:
    1. The printer works fine on XP, although the XP photo printing process is abysmal, and not as fluid as iPhoto. I want to avoid it.
    2. The printer works fine when plugged into the MacBook. Driver is recognized, printer is properly identified, iPhoto printing process is smooth.
    3. The printer DOES NOT WORK fine when plugged into the PC, but printing from the MacBook. I can find the shared printer and even add it to my available printers, but cannot find the proper driver. It is not one of the listed drivers that came with OS X 10.5.4. It also will not let find/selected the drivers I installed through the printer's included CD. To be brief: I can add the printer, but not the driver. When I try using other drivers (either the PostScript or other available Pixma drivers), the printing doesn't work properly.
Right now, the temporary fix is to just suck it up and plug it into the MacBook. But again, I'd like to avoid that long-term since I'd like to work wirelessly. It seems silly to me that the printer works fine when plugged in, but not when shared, considering both computers have the proper drivers.
Any help would be appreciated. I looked into CUPS, but the documentation did not have the Canon Pixma i3500 as one of the supporter printers.

I don't have Aperture but with iPhoto, when you select to print a photo, you should see the view as shown below.
Then when you press the Print button at the bottom center of the iPhoto pane, you will get the standard Apple print dialog. Here you can select the Quality & Media menu for the MP990.
Note that to see the Q&M menu, you may need to press the Show Details button to see the additional print settings, as shown below.

  • Wifi network and iphone accessing to printer

Hi, I have a wifi network (non mac) at home onto which is related a HP printer.
Can I access the printer through my Iphone, say to print a pdf file received via e-mail that I oppened on my mobile device for example ?

Not really, no. The iPhone does not have printer drivers, so you cannot print documents, etc., from it. With an HP printer with Wi-Fi, you can print photos (only photos, not documents) using an App from HP:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=299531647&mt=8
Also, note that you can take a screenshot on your iPhone (quick press of home and sleep/wake buttons), which is saved as a photo, and that can be printed using the above app. But, you are limited to one iPhone screen per printout.

  • Accessing Printer through SNMP in powershell???

    Hi,
I want to access the printer's toner level etc. information. I have installed the service on my Windows 7 both SNMP and Traps.
What I can not find out is that how do I access the printer using SNMP. What provider to install and how in WMI or through Powershell. What is the name of the name of the snapin? where is it located? how do I import it using import-module or how do I add
its provider in the wmi so that I get access to the cmdlets of it.
Your help is appreciated and thanks in advance !
    Look forward to your solutions.

There is no support for SNMP in PowerShell.   SNMP support for a printer comes from the printer vendor.

  • F110 printing through a separate printer

    Hi Guys,
How to set up F110 check prints through a different printer other than the local printer. Also does anyone knows how to install drivers in in SAP server so that users can slect different printers. I know its a basis issue. There is no Basis resource available at this time.
    Regards
    Madhu

    Hi Kappy,
Ok, so I've looked into the matter further, and here is what I've found:
Firstly, I think I was wrong when I said earlier that the connection to the printer is ipp. Basically, I plugged into the ethernet port for the main office network (bypassing the router), and I could access a web interface for the printer at
    http://printerhostname.local
This web interface gives an IP address. So I started the Printer Setup Utility and tried to add the printer using the given IP address under 'IP Printer.' When I did this I was able to find the printer (the right model number showed up), and add it to my printer list. However when I tried to send print jobs it didn't work! However, when plugged in directly via ethernet, the printer shows up under 'Bonjour' printers. When I selected this printer, I could send print jobs without any problems. What I take from this is that the printer is not actually setup with IP printing; does that seem like a reasonable conclusion?
About connecting the router to the ethernet port for the main office network, I'm actually connected directly via an ethernet cable, however I'm plugged into the WAN port (I access the internet through the main office network). Is it important that the connection is through the WAN port and not one of the four LAN ports? Sorry if I was unclear about the whole setup earlier.
Thanks again - I really appreciate the help,

  • Always duplex printing when printing through cups server

I have about 6 printers which people normally accesses through a cups server running on a Linux box.
We have always printed through the cups server from the Macs we have - and this has always worked great (they get auto-detected as shared printers and so on).
But a few months ago something changed on the Macs - they can now ONLY print duplex - nomatter what i tell them to do in the print dialog. When printing first to a postscript file and then sending the postscript file to the printer (via terminal/lpr) everything gets printing correctly - but when using the printing dialog it always prints duplex.
When printing to the printers directly (many different models) everything works - but going through the cups server - only duplex.
All our Linux machines prints both duplex and simplex as they should, so the cups server isn't the problem.
Has anybody else had this problem?
      Other OS

    Armin,
You need to do the following to make the duplex printing work for postscript in Oracle Reports.
You need a printer with duplex option and an appropriate PPD file.
You also need the Unix tool sed to filter the output file.
The problem is that duplexing is enabled in the job level set up of the PostScript document but gets reset in the page set up because paper size and printer tray information is generated for every page. The workaround would be to write a script, which removes page level set-up information for the paper size and printer tray set up commands. As a side effect of this - it is no longer possible to switch the printer tray between pages.
Write a sed script file called 'duplexsed' with the following three lines. This
    /^%%BeginPageSetup/,$ {
    /^%%BeginFeature/,/^%%EndFeature/d
Copy the file to an appropriate directory, for example $ORACLE_HOME/bin.
    Set the environment variable TK_PRINT:
    TK_PRINT="sed -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/duplexsed | lpr -l -s -P'%n' -#'%c'"
    export TK_PRINT
Note that the print command is different for the various kinds of Unix.
You may need to refer your installation guide and make changes to the lpr command
    Thanks

  • Trying to find a way to add multiple google acounts to e printer through the cloud. c310a Photosmart

My wife and I have 2 separate Google Chrome cr48 laptops. In order to print we have to print through google cloud which is why I purchased this c310a. After registering her account to the printer, I try to register mine and get an error saying already registered to another acount. I would hope this printer can handle more than one google cloud account, because it would increase the practicality for buisnesses.

Hi timshep. If you have already 'shared' your printer in Google Cloud Print, and not getting the results you are looking for, maybe I misread your question.
Let me clarify. Google Cloud Print is only set up one time. After that, once the printer is shared by that 'master' Google' account with all of the other 'Google Accounts' that you want to be able to cloud print from will simply be able to access it, without adding the printer the same way the Master account set it up.
Now if I am way off base on what you are doing, here are some other questions that come to mind.
Are you trying to have multiple Google "Cloud" accounts listed in the HP Eprint App under the 'Cloud' option?
Or perhaps you specifically talking about Google CloudPrint App?
    8. How do I use the Google Cloud Print app for Android? (Talks about multiple accounts)

  • Setup restrictions to the printer through the embaded network adapter

I've recently prochesed an HP Officejet Pro K8600dn printer.
I've connected the printer to the internet through the embaded network adapter and it worked perfectly. Howerver, the printer can be freely used by anyone in my network so i'm wondering if there's a way to block certain ip's or to configure any of that in the printer?
Also, the EWS server that came with the printer works perfectly and i can access it through my web browser. I cannot find anything about configuring allowed or blocked ip's.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Not likely this printer is going to have that kind of security features.  You'd be looking at something like a logon feature or Kerberos Authentication (which requires a dedicated server).  This is just a simple open port that allows anything on the network to access the printer as long as it talks the right printer language.
That being said, the router configuration is a whole different animal.  With the printer set up with a static IP, your router might allow you to restrict traffic to that address.  You would need to check your router configuration or contact their support staff for assistance.

  • Help on printing through Output Server

It seems that when I print from test presentment to PDF or to the local printer through my Output Designer, I get two pages printing out which is correct. When I compile and run the .dat file through Adobe Central server, I am having the same .dat file print out 5 pages with blanks on the second and 4rth page. I have the job setup with two tasks called PGCNTGET and PGCNTSET. I would assume if my test presentment to PDF and local printer are printing correctly, it should print correctly through the server. I did remove the PGCNTGET and PGCNTSET tasks from the job and only used JFMERGe and in that scenario it does print correctly but of course without page numbering. Can you please suggest on how to debug this in Central since I am not as familiar with Central Server.

I've never used the PGCNT agents but debugging with Central requires that you set the "verbosity" for the agent(s) to
    i trace
mode. This can be done using
    b Central Control
on the server - which you may not have access to,
    b or
it can be specified as an option for the task. If the task is defined in the job management database to include the
    b @OtherJobTokens
parameter then it can be done using the
    b ^job
line in the .dat file. For the print agent (JFMERGE) it is done with the
    b -v
option (-v0 sets trace mode). If it is done using Central Control, then verbosity for the Print Agent would be set to
    b -10
(don't forget to set it back to the current setting). The agent will then put all of its trace messages in the log file (usually jfserver.log) and you will need to get that file from the server (it is plain text). Note that there are some bogus messages and others are difficult to understand but it might point you in the right direction.

  • Printers added and shared without access to printer properties - Server 2012

On a Server 2012 domain controller, without the Print Management role installed, I have added a network printer through ‘Control Panel’ > ’Devices and Printers’, shared it through group policy, and the domain
member computers are able to print to the shared printer. But the printer never showed up in ‘Devices and Printers’ folder on the server.
The problem comes in since there is no way to edit the settings of the printer. The print queue for the printer does show up in Device Manager. I right-click the printer and select ‘Properties’, open the ‘Settings’ tab, and follow the link that
states, “Please go to the Devices and Printers folder to manage your printer”.
But this just opens up the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder which, does show/contain my printers.
If you are asking why the Print Management role is not used, It is because this system is self-contained and the most minimal features are installed on all computers for security compliance reasons. Therefore we typically just install the printers
on the domain controllers (via Devices and Printers) and then share them via Group Policy to the small number of workstations on the segregated network.
Did the ability to bypass installation of a Print Management role, and still edit printer settings, change for Server 2012? (We were able to do this with Server 2008R2. However, I can’t find any specific Microsoft documentation describing the change.)
So to try to fix this issue on the affected system (from my explanation above), I installed the Print Management role but the printers I created in ‘Control Panel’
don’t show up in Print Management. I still have no way to access the printer settings. Do I have to reinstall the printers? How do I remove the old printers? Do I just remove the ‘Print queues’ from Device Manager?
I tried to replicate my issue on a test system domain controller, built with very similar installation scripts as the affected system above was. I added a printer via ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Devices and Printers’, shared them, and they do not show up. However,
when I then install the Print Management role, the printers I created in ‘Control Panel’
now show up in Print Management. This is different than my affected system above.
If anyone could provide any insight on why this is happening it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Dan

Most likely this is a security setting on the print shares. When you open Devices and Printers, the security token for BUILTIN accounts is not passed to the Explorer process so launching this User Interface as administrator does not contain the ADMIN security
token. If you have removed the Everyone group from the printer security, then the printer can disappear in this UI.  For printer admin tasks you should use the tools provided by the print team Printmanagement.msc.
Adding the Print Role opens the spooler RPC endpoint ( which you can also do by sharing a printer ) and adds the tools.
Can you just add the tools without installing the Role?

  • Trying to print through Linksys router

    Hey there,
I'm trying to get a co-worker's Macbook to print through the Linksys router we have set up in the office, but it's proving to be more difficult than I imagined.
I've located the printer through System Preferences, and strangely enough she DOES have Internet access (browser, mail, etc), however printing doesn't want to work for some reason.
Has anyone had experience networking Macs with Linksys routers? And if so, how can we get the Macbook to print through it?
    Any advice is very appreciated.

hey, i did have the same problem for a while, i had a linksys router setup through a print server. if your printing through a print server, make sure that it has a static IP address and then just put in the information in the printers folder.
if your not using a print server, try enabling windows sharing, printer sharing and personal file sharing in system preferences > sharing folder.

Someone outside of my home network is printing through my wireless network. I have an HPb210e. How do Iadjust the printer settings to stop this?
    Thank you

Are you using the printer as a standalone device or is it associated with an wireless access point?
Follow the instructions on this document to change the security type to WPA if you have it set up using WEP. Change the network key as well.
WEP is the currrently weakest security type available. It is very easy for anyone who is so inclined,  to crack it and get your passphrase.

  • Can Connect to Printer through ethernet network cable, but not through Time Capsule connected to ethernet

I am a lone Mac user in a very large, unsympathetic institution.  If I plug my MacBook Air into the ethernet cable in my office directly, I can print through the office printer.  If I plug the ethernet cable into a Time Capsule and connect my Air to the capsule wirelessly I cannot print to the office printer.  I can access the internet, so I know it isn't a problem with any of the hardware or the wireless connection.
Is it possible that the network, because of Time Capsule, shuffles me into a different subnet than the printer?  Why would it do this?  How would it know?  Is there any kind of fix possible?  (I use the Thunderbolt port to connect my Air to a monitor, so I can't use it to connect to an ethernet cable).
    Thanks.

If they are the same IP range.. then you are on a bridged TC.. if they are different. Then you are on router mode TC and should bridge it.
