Accessing music on two computers

How do I access my music from my Itunes account from another computer. The account started on a PC and now I'd like to open them and put them on my MAC but I can't see my files.
Do I do some sort of Import option or are those files taken out of my account and saved on the PC's harddrive? New User confused and no time to tinker with this.
Thanks,

You can't access your music on iTunes by signing in to it - that is for shopping.
You'll have to:
a. Copy your music from your PC to your Mac & then install iTunes on your Mac and voila!
b. Create a network for your PC and Mac so that files can be shared and no need to have two copies of everything so you can access them on both your PC and Mac. I've never had or done a network before, so I can't help you to set one up.

How do you move all music from two computers into one itunes account?

An "iTunes account" is an online account you use for buying music, like a bank account.  An iTunes collection is the media you see when you open iTunes. Which do you mean?
If it is two computers, it would also help to know where these are located. Are they on the same local network? If they are, try Home Sharing (and you have control of both and you aren't just trying to get music fro your computer to your friend's computer in another state).  If they are not, you'll have to use an external hard drive or flash drive.
Is this on a PC? Your computer information says Windows but you posted this in the iTunes for Mac forum.

  • ITunes music on two computers

We recently acquired a new laptop for my daughter to take to college. If we install iTunes on her laptop and I copy our iTunes music folder over to her machine, can she have access to this same list of purchased music? In otherwords can we have our iTunes music library on two computers at the same time? Would it make a difference if she gets an iPod of her own some day? This is all music we have bought and paid for. Thanks to anyone who can help.

hi dave she will have access to the music, however you will have to 'authorize' the computer to play purchased music, this is set in the 'advanced' menu in itunes.
    regards,

  • Duplicating purchased music on two computers?

I use two computers and sometimes I purchase music from the iTunes Store using one or the other. But, the music I purchased on one computer doesn't show up on the other computer and visa a versa. Is there a method of showing all the music I've purchased on both computers no matter what computer it was originally purchased on?

Downloaded music will only appear on the computer used for the download. To get these files on your other computer you have to physically install the files on the computer (unless you have a shared network storage drive). To move the songs between computers, I would use an USB flash drive, copy the file to this drive and then copy it into iTunes on the other computer (Edit > Add File). Make sure you physically copy the file to the other computer and not just the path to the song on the flash drive. You can then authorize the computer to play these songs. (iTunes allows you to authorize up to five computers to play your purchased music.)
If you'd prefer to import an unprotected file, you can burn the purchased music to a CD and then just rip it into iTunes on your other computer.

  • Manually manage music on two computers with iPhone 4s

For the past few months I have had not issues manually managing my ipod touch on two computers. This is a necessesity as I own a mac laptop but like to listen to audiobooks from my local library which will only download to a PC. With my iPod touch all I had to do was make sure that the manually manage music was turned on and I could put the music from my computer on the device than go and use my friend's pc to put on the audiobooks (WMA Overdrive format). Since getting the iPhone 4S it has been a nightmare to get the same result. I even went so far as to plug it into each computer completely when nothing was on the iphone and turn on manually manage music in each, than put all my music from the mac on it. Only to find that when I opened up itunes in the PC manually manage music was unchecked again. The only way to turn it back on is to sync and erase all my music, thus forcing me to carry around both an ipod and an Iphone, which is more than a little annoying.
    Please help!

Unlike the iPods, including the iPod Touch, iPhones will synch with ONLY ONE iTunes library at a time.  You will NOT be able to manually manage music from 2 computers with your iPhone.

  • Strange sync behavior -- Itunes wants to sync music on two computers!

I use my iphone to keep contacts and calendars synced between my office and home computers, which it does nicely (asking me each time I switch machines whether I want to merge or replace the data--to which I always reply merge).
I thought Itunes was NOT supposed to be able to sync music with more than one computer--that it was supposed to produce a message saying, "The iPhone "xx" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?" And then let me opt out of syncing the music, while still merging the calendar and contacts files. That's exactly what happened with my previous office computer.
Since setting up my new office computer, however, Itunes on both computers WANTS to sync the music on each. That would be fine, if it were syncing my music BETWEEN the two computers (leaving me the same tunes on each computer and on the iphone), but it's not--instead it's alternatively syncing with one and then the other, removing stuff I bought at home every time I sync at the office. If I try to tell the office computer NOT to sync the music, it warns me that that would mean erasing everything on the iphone.
Anyone have any ideas about what's going on here and how I can correct it?
    Thanks!

No, unfortunately you can't sync your music from your iPhone to your computer.
I'd suggest using and external disk to transfer your music from your XP system to your new MBP. You'll just have to authorize your account in iTunes when you first play the songs.
If you have an iPod, you can use that as a disk to transfer the music: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 or you can use any other hard disk.
Once you have the songs on your Mac, just sync. The songs on currently on your iPhone will be replaced with the ones in your iTunes Library, as you stated.

  • Having Purchased Music on two Computers?

    ****,
I have a Toshiba laptop, running WinXP, I use for work and a Dell XPS desktop, running WinXP, I use at home.
All of my purchased music is on the desktop. Is there an easy way to export my library to the laptop? I would like both computers to have the identical library.
    Thanks

The simplest thing to do would be to network the two computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. Here are a few links that may help you out:

  • Transferring Music With Two Computers/Libraries

I have two computers with music on them, latest 7.7 iTunes software for the 3G on both. I went on one put the music and videos on it no problem and I use the manually manage music so there is no syncing. On my other computer I plug it in, it loads up, then hit manually manage music, then it says "Erase and Sync" or Cancel. So I have to erase my music to put on the new stuff. How can I get around this?

I am having the same problem. It is really annoying considering that both iTunes libraries that I am trying to use are linked to my Apple ID. This whole syncing thing really does annoy me. Why should I have to sync my whole library when I just want to add one or two tracks?

  • How to Best Share Music Between Two Computers

My wife and I have two computers with two different iTunes libraries. We'd like to share music. What's the most time efficient way to authorize our respective computers for each other's songs?
I think I could go to the various folders in the file system on my wife's computer, copy each song I want, and store it in a new folder on my own computer. But this seems really time consuming for 500 songs. Is there a faster way, like importing directly from her library after I've enabled it to share?
    Thanks.

Unless both computers are on all the time then each computer will need its own copy of any music in the iTunes library. An external neetwork drive may be a good option. Set both computers' iTunes to store music there then the files will be available to both at any time. If that is not an option then you will need to continue copying files from one machine to the other.

  • Sharing music on two computers with one external drive

I'm a Mac. My wife is a PC. If we both link to an external drive and put all of our music on there, can we both access it from our own separate iTunes accounts via file sharing? Will she be able to put music I've downloaded on her iPod? Will I be able to do the same? So far she hasn't downloaded any of her own music onto her computer so if she were to remove her current iTunes from her computer and reload it using my account name, would we both be able to have full access to music both imported and downloaded from both computers? Sorry for the questions on top of questions, but while there are a lot of other posts and articles similar to this one, I haven't found what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Yes, sorry for piling on. 1st question: Would having her remove iTunes on her PC and reload it under my account name to be able to access my iTunes library on an external drive work?

  • How to access files from two computers on a network, one wired and one wireless?

I cannot seem to access one computer from the other.  I have marked files for sharing, and both show the same work group.  How do I make sure both computers are installed on the router?

Make sure that both computers can access the Internet through the router.
If your router has a setting for "AP isolation", verify that it is set to "disabled".
As long as you do the two things mentioned above, your router does not put up any barrier to file sharing.   So then the problem is not a router problem, it is a Windows problem, or a firewall problem.
To check for firewall problem, first, make sure you can ping each computer from the other - if you cannot, then temporarily turn off your software firewall, including Windows Firewall, and see if that helps.
If you still have problems after the firewall is off, then your problem is likely a Windows problem.   Make sure "file and printer sharing" is enabled on all your wireless adapters and ethernet cards.   If you continue to have problems, then usually the Windows support website has the best info on how to further proceed with fixing this type of problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Movies and Music on Two Computers

Recently, I got a new computer, but I still want to keep all the movies and music from my old iTunes on my ipod. Unfortunately, itunes prevents me from putting two movies on my ipod from two different computers. I find this extremely unfair seeing as how I purchased all the movies myself. Is there any way I can fix this?
I was also wondering if there was a way to make all my music from my old computer that i've bought show up on my new computer

No. That explains how to set up to manually sync so that you can put content on ipod from two different computers:
    From the article:
"When in manual mode, to add songs or playlists drag them from iTunes to the iPod icon in the sidebar."
    and
"If you want to keep the music library on iPod, but copy songs or playlists from the music library on the second computer, click Cancel to this dialog box, and then set iPod to manual mode."
    Your other question:
""I was also wondering if there was a way to make all my music from my old computer that i've bought show up on my new computer "
Not unless you have moved it there. Itunes does not keep up with your purchased music for you. Once you purchase it, it is you responsibility to keep up with it - just like a cd you purchase from the store. You can copy the music from one hard drive to the other.

  • Syncing iPhone music with Two computers is not happening

I had the iPod touch and sold it in anticipation of the iPhone. On the iTouch you could sync it perfectly with two machines even three or four.
My beef is that the music libraries can't be read or added to from more than one computer. I work in a recording studio and am always adding songs from different computers and this feature is crucial. What I always loved doing was plugging in my phone to my home computer and listening to my days work through its speakers. This is very frustrating as every time i want to add a song from home i have to erase all my songs on the iPhone. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK!
Does anyone know a work around for this?

I'm having this problem with purchased ringtones. Unaware of the fact that you can only sync iPhone from only one computer, I purchased several ringtones on another of our authorized computers (same account) while I was literally in another state. When I tried to add them to my iPhone, I got the message telling me my existing iPhone ringtones would be deleted/replaced if I proceeded, so I didn't. Now I have purchased ringtones sitting on a computer that can't be used on the only iPhone I own. This seems an irrational policy.
Since there is only one purpose for ringtones, you should be able to 'add' them to your iPhone when purchased on any of your authorized computers - you have paid for them after all. Is there a way to export them from one authorized computer to another (the one you normally use to sync your iPhone)?
