Account Hacked, Fraudulent charges, and NO WAY TO ...

Skype,
Over the last two days someone has hacked into my account, sending more
than 1200 SMS messages to people in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and other
parts of Europe. This drained whatever remained in my account, and then
auto-filled 6 times for $25 USD each. I cancelled the charges with Paypal,
but I need to talk to someone at Skype ASAP. You can e-mail me at [E-Mail address removed to retain confidentiality.] with a phone number. Your online customer support is insufficient, and the last thing someone in my position needs is to weed my way through customer
support websites. These charges have not yet been processed through my bank
luckily. I need to know:
- Will you ensure these charges do not go through?
- How did my account get hacked?
- Why was I receiving text messages and phone calls to my personal cell
phone? Was it through Skype to go?
- Will you restore my previous account balance to my skype account? As far
as I can see my account has only been hacked since Sept. 22 or 23. I had
money on the account at that time. Right now I have none.
If you are a Skype customer reading this, here's what it all looked like. The night before last I started getting text messages from all over Europe. 20 to be exact. They were talking about buying and selling cars and bikes. Last night I started getting phone calls and more texts so today I checked with my bank. There were no bank charges yet, but when I looked at Paypal I had 6 $25 auto-refills from Skype. I reported the charges with Paypal and hopefully they have cancelled the charges so they won't go on to my bank account, but I can't reach anyone at Skype, nor do I see any way to easily report security breaches like this.

Hi, reynoldspick,
First things, first: for your safety and protection, please never, ever include personally identifiable information such as an e-mail address or telephone number in posts on a public Community or forum such as this.  Thanks!
If you have not already done so, please change the following account passwords immediately:
Skype account;
PayPal account;
Payment method used to fund your Paypal account.
Further, as a proactive measure, run a full security scan of your computer using your preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware program ensuring you have the latest virus signature files installed.
Here is the link to use to contact Skype Customer Service directly; we here in the Community do not have access to Skype accountholder records.  https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1170/how-can-i-contact-skype-customer-service
Skype offers help and support through ... :
Email - follow the steps below to submit your support request to us by email
Live chat for eligible customers
We don’t currently offer telephone support.
If you are a Skype customer, you can contact Skype Customer Service as follows:
Sign in with your Skype Name and password.
Select the topic you need help with and the problem you are having. Some information is displayed that might help with your problem is displayed.
If the information doesn’t help, click Continue support request.
Select your contact method.
If you chose email, enter your details, describe your problem, and then click Send support request. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.
These charges have not yet been processed through my bank
luckily. I need to know:
- Will you ensure these charges do not go through?
I can not gaurantee this; as noted above, I do not have access to account records.  Whether these charges post through to the payment method which funds your PayPal account is most likely a matter of timing.
- How did my account get hacked?
Most likely your Skype account password was guessed or cracked.  None of us is immune.
- Why was I receiving text messages and phone calls to my personal cell phone? Was it through Skype to go?
Quite honestly, I would have no way of knowing.
- Will you restore my previous account balance to my skype account? As far as I can see my account has only been hacked since Sept. 22 or 23. I had money on the account at that time. Right now I have none.
Reimbursements for fraudulent use of an account are typically returned to the customer's account from which the funds were taken, as such investigations are processed by the payment method.
Please report these incidents to Skype Customer Service, as noted above.
Best regards,
Elaine

  • My Skype account was hacked, PayPal charged, and I...

I woke up this morning to 4 Skype emails saying that "My Skype Credits have been delivered". What Skype credits? I never order any skype credits as I only use the free service. So I check my Skype account, and sure enough there were 4 Skype transactions made after 1am! While I was asleep!
These transactions were for $10 each, with one for $25. I checked my PayPal and bank account, and sure enough the charges are going through. So I attempt to contact Skype, and there's no customer service number. Instead, they refer me to this forum. I've already changed my password, and contacted PayPal. Now I need help from a Skype representative, since this is a case of fraud.

Hi, Corruptiondee, and welcome to the Community,
Please have the information detailed in this FAQ article at hand when you contact Skype Customer Service:  https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10384/why-has-my-credit-debit-card-been-charged-by-skype-when-i-h...
Skype does not use a generic or central e-mail address; nor does Skype host a call-in telephone customer support facility.  Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
Skype is aware people can experience problems reaching their customer service unit and is working to resolve these issues.  If you experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service, try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented. Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also impede reaching an agent.  It may take a few attempts, however people are getting through.
    Regards,
    Elaine

So my credit card has been used to purchase skype credit, and it has shown up on my posted transactions. I called my credit card company and they said they can't do anything until I prove and show that I have communicating back and forth with regarding this specific issue. I cancelled my credit card and got a new one, but how can I show that I've been communicating back and forth with skype when they don't offer any communication outlets besides this forum? They do not offer phone service or email service.

  • Account hacked - fraudulent credit card?

My husband received 7 emails saying they were from Itunes. Each was saying he'd purchase a $10 Itunes giftcard for me. When he logged into his Itunes account, his name and email were correct but the address had been changed and so had the credit card. Our card was gone and it listed a Mastercard. We do not have a Mastercard. We thought one of a few things may be going on. The emails contained links to sites with a virus or to get our personal info or someone was using our Itunes account (but not our credit card?) or someone has a Mastercard in my husbands name. Has anyone had something like this happen to them? We've emailed Apple because they won't deal with this type of issue on the phone. No response yet.

I've not heard of this specific circumstance, and it's pretty strange. It may be that someone stole a credit card number, managed to crack your iTunes Store account, and used it to get iTunes prepaid cards that they could use or sell. But that's just a guess.
If your husband hasn't done so already, he should make note of the bogus credit card information (all information he can find; a screen shot of the the information would also be a good idea), then remove it and change his iTunes Store password, making sure the password is something that's not easy to guess or find via an Internet search (names of children and pets are not a good idea, for instance).
Unless the intruder charged something to your bank account or drained a credit balance your husband had in his iTunes Store account, there's probably nothing else that the iTunes Store will suggest, since you won't have been impacted financially, though they may disable the account due to the hack.
    Regards.

  • Account HACKED, identity fraud, and no help

Hello I was recently informed that one of my contacts on Skype had their account compromised (April 19th). Their name was changed to "Ray Morgan" and their birthday was changed to "June 12, 1960" as well as their place of residence changed to "New York, USA" and their picture too. Then I had noticed something strange going on with my OWN account. I can no longer log in, and when I try to reset my password, it says to contact Customer Service.
I have filled out the Account Verification form three times already, have offered ALL of my information, including my name, date of birth, all my contacts, my billing address.. basically everything I can possibly give, and still no response. I am just getting the same email over and over again.
ANOTHER note. My contact whose account was initially compromised is a family member of mine, and I had created her account, however I do not remember the email used to create the account. The Skype representative who I spoke to over chat said that it does NOT matter, because Skype has other ways of verifying an account. This is extremely frustrating and quite frankly, scary.
Last night, our camera had randomly turned on on the laptop, without talking with anybody. When I quit Skype (as it just runs in the background), the light went off. I believe somebody was accessing my camera. I don't know what further steps to take, I believe somebody is spying and hacking on me. Why doesn't Skype help, this is ALL on you. My billing information is on my account.

    Hello,
Our escalation team reports as follows:
" I have viewed the customer’s community post and pulled up the Skype account that is associated with the e-mail address below. The Skype account associated with the customer’s e-mail address provided does not contain any stored payment details, nor is the account blocked. No record of any account take over on the user name is present, and the password was recently changed on April 19th 2015.
If the customer is referring to a different skype name that is associated with a different e-mail address (Which I suspect is the case in this circumstance) I would be happy to help with the issue by providing whatever guidance I can. However, we cannot support account recovery via live chat or phone call for security and privacy purposes. Because the information required for account verification contains sensitive information, verification can only take place over e-mail through the form that was provided previously. If the customer has filled out the form for account verification/recovery, I will be able to see the information that she filled out and compare that to her account information to hopefully give her back access to the account. If the information provided does not match the account information the account will remain blocked.
If there are other accounts that have been compromised the account owner should contact support and create their own request for recovery. "

  • ITunes account hacked.  Charges made to my account

My iTunes account was hacked & someone downloaded about $100 of music, of which about $50 was charged to my credit card. I put a fraud freeze to my credit card and iTunes says I owe them money. How can I get all this taken off of my iTunes acount?

Same thing happened to me last week. 1st I couldn't access the itunes store as it wouldn't take my log-in info. Then I noticed that somehow my account reverted back to my old info with my old email (@twcny.rr.com) so I used my ols log-info & password & sure enough all of the info from a year ago was on my account. I changed it back to reflect my current email address. Then my bank notifies me of several charges on my credit card for iTunes purchases. Funny thing was the charges were on a card that is NOT currently registered on my itunes account...but the card may have been registered to my account over a year ago before I changed cards. I can download NEW apps but when I attempt to download any of the free upgrades to my existing apps I receive a message saying I cannot access the iTunes store. Apple finally admitted to me that my account has been compromised but tells me I have 2 accounts & one of them (with an email address of [email protected]) is registered in China. They tell me all of my apps have been purchased on that account, which is completly untrue. You see, I only have one iTunes account. Someone obviously was able to hack my account & set up another one. I just don't undetstand how all of my apps could show as being purchased on the other account. Honestly, I think Apple is avoiding the issue. I haven't had any problems w/the iTunes store until last week...and I've been purchasing apps since August 2008! Let me know how things work out & I'll do the same. Good luck!

  • Account Hacked -- Unauthorized Charges, Help Nonex...

My account has been hacked and unauthorized charges have been made. My 'registered email' address has been changed as well by the hacker ("Registered email address successfully changed. We've updated your registered email address to *edited for privacy* so I'm unable to to login to even change my password. Skype offers no email address or phone number to call for support, even though my account that has been hacked / taken-over is a premium account. Just to get to this forum page was mind boggling and very confusing. I also learned that Skype does not even offer the option to close or cancel a current Skype account (to potentially prevent further charges). I'd rather not post any personal information at this point, therefore please tell me how to ask for legitiamte help from Skype.

  • Account hacked; rescue address and security questions changed

what recourse do i have to fix this? i haven't used my account in ages, since i moved away from iphone. i just signed back in to update my mac, and all my info has been changed. what can i do and where do i start? the rescue address is changed and so are my security questions.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Account Hacked and Suspended and "Restricted"

My account was hacked and someone charged several hundred dollars to my PayPal account.  Skype quickly remedied the fraudulent charges, and I have changed the passwords of both Skype and PayPal.  But now my account is "restricted" and I cannot add money to make calls.  Can someone help me to get the account unrestricted?  Thanks

Hi, faizanbajwa, and welcome to the Community,
Generally speaking, we do not have access to Skype acount records here in the Community; you must contact Skype Customer Service directly.  You may even need to set up a new account in order to recover your old account, if you cannot use your old account at this time.
Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
As you know you wish to contact Customer Service, skip past Step 2 of the instruction where you will be presented with FAQ articles and other information, which may prove helpful, and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request.
I would also recommend changing your e-mail account password as well as that of any saved payment method that you had on file.  If you employ a third-party payment processor such as PayPal or Moneybookers, change those account passwords as well as proactive measures.
Further, run you preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware software using the most recent virus signature files to ensure your computer did not get infected.
    Best regards,
    Elaine

  • FRAUDULENT CHARGE ON MY CARD

I just discovered a fraudulent charge on my debit card for MYR 375.90 from Best Buy. I have NEVER shopped at Best Buy or used this card for ANY online purchase whatsoever. I have blocked my card since and lodged a complaint with the Bank and filed a police report as well, all of which I can gladly provide you the proofs.
I don't have any other info from the bank as this transaction was just done at 2.29pm today. All I know is, the amount is MYR 375.90, an unauthorised fraudulent charge, and the card was in my possesion at the time of the transaction, so someone hacked into my details!!!
Please look into this and refund my money NOW!!!! This is a debit card, I am not going to wait for 90 days turnaround for you to refund my stolen money!!!!!!

    Dear kimmieV,
I have never had any personal experiences with possible fraudulent charges before but I imagine it is a scary thing. I am very sorry to about this!
To facilitate the quickest resolution, I recommend you contact your financial institution to dispute the charge and report that your card was used without your permission. They will open an investigation and contact Best Buy directly for any related information to the charge. We are happy to comply with their investigation
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I sincerely hope you are able to rectify this in a timely fashion. Thank you for reaching out!

  • Account hacked and credit card charged!!!

I received today 3 emails from Skype. one about Skype Manager, one about Auto-Recharge and a last one about an order for 10 euro that has been made with my credit card. In my account info I fount a strange primary email address @ 163.com [hyperlink removed] and in skype manager setting there is an administrator with username [redacted to protect privacy] and me as a fellow member. The problem is that my credit card has already been charged with 10 euro but I cant see the transaction in my Purchase history page. I can see it only as last purchase of payment method but when I click on "Download this as printable invoice" the "Oops, something went wrong..." page appears. Please help!!

  • Account Hacked and paypal charged.

I recently tried to log in to my skype account, finding out that it got suspended a month ago after it got hacked, I just managed to get control back of  my account however for the short time the account had been hacked it is showing that a russian calling package was charged to my account via my paypal. however my paypal has no record of any charges from skype and also calls had been made from my skype account to landlines in Russia and all my emails from skype are now in Russian. I want to find out more details about these charges and what actually was accessed on my skype account and how they managed to log in. And also how to change the emails language back to english.
    Cheers.

I think you may need to contact customer service regarding your concern.  However, I think they don't give refunds, or provide specific information in some cases.
