ACR 5.3 RC -  how to regress to 5.2?

One question I always have for a beta is how to go back to the previous version should that be desired. This for acr was fairly straightforward when the install effort was copying a new Camera Raw.8bi file into the correct common files plug-in folder. I would move the previous 8bi file to a backup location and copy in the new one. Regressing was a simple procedure replacing the newer 8bi with the previous one.
With 5.3 I see that there are now two files in the plug-in folder: the expected Camera Raw 8bi plus a CustomHooks.dll file. If I should want to go back to 5.2, would I restore the 5.2 Camera Raw.8bi file and erase the dll? If I then wanted to return to 5.3, would it be sufficient to replace the 5.2 8bi with the newer one and restore the dll file?

Hi Robert,
You can delete the CustomHooks file. It's left over by the installer, and is not a functioning part of the plugin. I hope we can fix that for the final release.
In general you should be able to switch between the 5.2 and 5.3 plugins simply by replacing the 8bi file with a backup copy of the 5.2 or 5.3 8bi file you have saved. If you manually go back to 5.2, I suspect that the 5.3 installer will refuse to re-install 5.3 again (at least this is the case on Macintosh).
Thanks for the feedback,
David Franzen

How to regress from iTunes 7 to iTunes 6.0.5
    1. Make sure you have a copy of the iTunes 6.0.5 installer. If you no longer have one, download it here:
    http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=11622&cat=1&platform =osx&method=sa/iTunesSetup.exe
    2. Shut down iTunes 7 if it is running
    3. Uninstall iTunes 7 via the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
    4. Go to your iTunes MUSIC folder (usually C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes). You will see two files called "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Music Library". These belong to iTunes 7, DELETE them.
NOTE: Take care not to confuse this with the iTunes INSTALLATION folder, which is usually C:\Program Files\iTunes.
    5. You will also see a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries". Look inside, there may be several copies depending upon your upgrade history with names like "iTunes Library 2006-09-12". Take the most recent one (the last one used by iTunes 6) and COPY it up to the folder C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes. Now RENAME this file back to simply "iTunes Library".
NOTE: To copy a file in Windows, right-click the file and choose "Copy". Now go to the folder you wish to copy to, right-click in the empty folder space and choose "Paste".
NOTE: To rename a file in Windows, select the file and press F2. Now type the name you want and press ENTER.
After this is done, your iTunes MUSIC folder (C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes) should contain the following objects:
    a) The file "iTunes Library" that you just copied there and renamed
    b) The folder "Previous iTunes Libraries"
    c) The folder "iTunes Music"
    6. Now reinstall iTunes 6. All your playlists and ratings will appear as if nothing had happened. And, your Shuffle will work once more.

I just want to bump this and say thank you soooo much.
I upgraded to itunes 7 today (I have an ipod mini) and everything was fine except I couldn't upload anything my ipod...sooo frustrating, so when I saw this I followed your steps and voila, I can upload music again!
Thank you...and apple should really check the programs before letting people upgrade...also if the newer pogams don't work for the older devices, they should make a note so people don't make that change.

very awesome, its nice to have working itunes again,

You are welcome. There is a lot of noise here, I thought I would add something purely technical.
One quick addition: The correct extension for the file "iTunes Library" is .ITL. If you have Windows set NOT to "Hide extensions for known file types" you will see this extention, e.g. "iTunes Library.itl".
Be careful when renaming this file to retain the .itl extension. If you do erase it, put it back so iTunes can recognize it.

  • Olympus E-P1(ORF) RAWs Handling Error in  ACR 5.5. How do I uninstall?

RAW images (ORF) from the Olympus E-P1 appear to be processed correctly in ACR 5.5 but highlights are full of small magenta and black specs that are then transferred in to the final processed image. I've attached an image (its a crop of larger image) below as illustration of the problem.
Also, how do I uninstall ACR 5.5 now I've discovered it's not gonna do the job, yet? Cheers.

Can you please provide an example .ORF file that exhibits the issue? That
would help me to figure out what's going wrong. You can use YouSendIt.com

  • ACR 4.4 Profiles, how to set them as standard

    Hello All,
With Lr 1.4.1, and the new ACR camera profiles, how do I make LR use them on all the new images that I am importing. Since updating .4.1 every image that I import uses the older profile (4.2?) Any how, I had read that after you update to .4.1 that every image imported after that would automatically use the new profile....
How do I make this happen?
I understand that it will not be automatic on images pre-existing in LR prior to .4.1...
    Thanks

By default if an image has _NOT_ had settings applied, the new 4.4 profile WILL be used for new settings. But I'm pretty sure any image already in Lightroom will need to have the 4.4 profile newly set. An easy way to do this for existing images is to do a new Develop Preset changing _ONLY_ the Calibrate section (after selecting the 4.4 profile in an image in Develop).
Then you can select all in the Library and apply the 4.4 preset to all raw images (it's not applicable for non-raw files).
Then, to make sure the 4.4 profile is used for all new imports from your camera, you should take an image from each of your cameras, select Develop and without altering the rest of the parameters (you want to start FROM the current default) change the Calibrate drop down to the 4.4 profile and then save that as the new default for your camera/cameras...

  • Smart Object - How do I keep ACR from changing workflow options?

Open image in Photoshop as a Smart Object from Lightroom.
Double-click to change the RAW characteristics.
When I return to Photoshop, my image has been changed...  Color space is changed, bit depth is changed, size is changed........
I believe I know WHAT is doing it - the Workflow Options in ACR are set.  HOW DO I TURN THEM OFF?
I can't find a reset, and I can't get it to stop messing with the image.  I've SPECIFICALLY UNCLICKED the "Resize to Fit", but
it STILL takes my 2600x3300 pixel image and returns it as 1824x2321 pixels.......
Where and how do I reset this thing?

I ABSOLUTELY agree......  That's exactly, I believe, how it's SUPPOSED to work.
    Except that mine didn't.
    I opened a 12.2 MP RAW file.
And made absolutely no changes to the workflow uptions at the time of opening.
But instead of "Image Sizing" saying "Default 12.2 MP", it said "3.6MP"
    Resize was turned OFF
Width was 2321 px and height was 1824 px, BOTH GRAYED OUT.
Upon leaving ACR, I had a 2321x1824 file.
Eventually, after wasting another hour screwing around with it, I finally blew away all of Bridge AND the preferences and all that,
and rebooted since the %$#)(*& Adobe CC thing wouldn't figure out there was no more Bridge, and resintalled...........
Now, when I open a file in there, at LEAST it knows it's 12.2MP.
It STILL wants to change the Space to sRGB, which I NEVER use from here, and the Depth to 8-bit, which again, I never use in ACR,
but I can set those back to what they should be...
So, in this case, by using a large enough bludgeon, I appear to have gotten around the problem.  Now I'm just waiting to see how soon it screws up again.

  • Color Management Discrepencies Between Bridge, ACR & Photoshop

Hi - I've had a color management issue I can't wrap my head around which is similar to this infamous thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3235601#3235601
I'm hoping with a little more information provided I can get this figured out. The basic problem is that Bridge displays images markedly differently than either ACR or Photoshop. The most common issue is as follows:
With the external monitor as the primary display (and the laptop monitor as a secondary), I start Bridge. Photos will seem to be in the correct gamut for a moment, but it almost immediately desaturates them as if switching gamuts. Opening the image in ACR or Photoshop shows the correct color. See the below:
(Note: on my wide-gamut monitor, there's no clipping on the ACR version - that's how it should look)
There are various permuations to this problem depending on which monitor I have on when I start Bridge, but the above is my general workflow.
    Some background:
Lenovo ThinkPad T430s w/ integrated Intel HD4000 graphics
ASUS ProArt Series PA246Q (Wide Gamut)
Photoshop CS6 (using 16-bit ProPhotoRGB as the standard workspace)
    Datacolor Spyder4 calibrating both monitors
    My settings:
I know there are a bunch of variables, but does anybody see any glaring issues which might explain my problem?
    Thanks!

No problem, thanks for the help! On my PC, screen capture using the Prnt Scrn button must be pasted into a program or taken/saved using the snipping tool. Either way the result appears to be untagged.
Here are a few more examples if you get a chance to look in the future. I'm making sure the proper profiles are embedded correctly (you can confirm in both Photoshop [lower left] and Bridge [upper right]):
Primary, wide-gamut monitor (sample includes embedded profile) - Viewing PSD w/ embedded ProPhoto RGB:
Secondary, laptop monitor (sample includes embedded profile) - Viewing PSD w/ embedded ProPhoto RGB:
Primary, wide-gamut monitor (sample includes embedded profile) - Viewing WhackedRGB Sample w/ embedded profile:
Secondary, laptop monitor (sample includes embedded profile) - Viewing WhackedRGB Sample w/ embedded profile:
Primary, wide-gamut monitor (sample includes embedded profile) - Viewing Sample Lowrez ProPhotoRGB w/ embedded profile:
Secondary, laptop monitor (sample includes embedded profile) - Viewing Sample Lowrez ProPhotoRGB w/ embedded profile:
So the WhackedRGB sample looks ok and the ProPhotoRGB samples look ok here, but it doesn't look like the WhackedRGB or ProPhoto samples have anything outside the sRGB range.
Note what happens when I edit the WhackedRGB and ProPhoto samples simply by adding colors on the extremes of the gamut...
Primary, wide-gamut monitor (sample includes embedded profile) - Viewing WhackedRGB Sample w/ embedded profile EDITED with gamut extremes:
Primary, wide-gamut monitor (sample includes embedded profile) - Viewing Sample Lowrez ProPhotoRGB w/ embedded profile EDITED with gamut extremes:
The issue is back - the colors are very different! At this point, it's probably a bug, right...?
    Thanks again!

  • Converted raw (or .dng) will not open in ACR?

OK, now that I've gotten sort-of over the hurdle of synching all the pieces associated with a smart object, I've hit the NEXT hurdle (SOs appear to be the usual double-edged sword - kinda handy in a way but rife with pitfalls and hurdles)...
I open a .NEF in Bridge, go into ACR and open the file as a Smart Object in Photoshop.  Double-click the layer icon and I'm back in ACR, just like all the demos and seminars I've watched.  But, take the SAME .NEF in Bridge and open it as a standard image in Photoshop, then CONVERT it to a smart object, double-click the layer icon and all I get is a .psd and NOT jump into ACR.  It does exactly the same thing with a .dng file And from Lightroom OR ACR...
I found an entry from a discussion (not in here, I couldn't find anything about this in here) about CS3 (yes 3), where a user had this problem and was told it's because the original image was opened as a rasterized image, NOT as a Smart Object from ACR...  Which isn't making sense to me 'cause who cares what it was way back when, it's NOW a Smart Object and should be treated like one no matter HOW it got there...
Is there some preference or setting or something I need to change in Photoshop so this will work as expected is is there really some restriction about exactly HOW the Smart Object got created?  And if so, is there some paragraph is big, bold letters in the documentation that makes it really clear to the uninformed that you MUST open it as a Smart Object or it won't work?
And yes, I KNOW that in ACR I can set it so it defaults to opening as a Smart Object, but like many other PS users I normally use Lightroom and I haven't seen any such default.  Which means it's REALLY easy to forget to go down to the Open as Smart Object and instead just hit Open in Photoshop...

Listen, buddy, no one has any obligation to answer your questions here in this user to user forum.  Lose the attitude.
I'll repeat the answer anyway, as you apparently are unable to read replies carefully.

…CAN I take an image that was opened in Photoshop as a "standard" image, then converted to a smart object and edit it in ACR?  If yes, HOW?
No, ABSOLUTELY NOT !  You cannot. Period. That's what I said in post #2 of this thread.
ACR will only open and edit Smart Objects that contain raw data.  Any image opened in Photoshop —not as a Smart Öbject—is already cooked and contains no raw data any more. Additionally, ACR can edit JPEGs and TIFFs if you set your preferences accordingly, but with much less latitude and functionality than a raw file.
What's more, the cooked Smart Object 's now in the cooked PSB format (a variation of PSD that can handle much larger files than PSD can) so there's no way on Earth ACR can open it.

  • Add ACR settings section to Metadata viewer

I was looking for some night shots the other day. There are so many photo organizers but I know of none that let one select night versus day shots (no seasons of the year too)...
I thought that maybe it could be work around by selecting photos with specific WB setting. But there is no WB data in the Metadata Browser. Hmm.
There is also no WB field in the metadata panel - no EXIF WB, no Lightroom-edited WB either. So it's impossible to search for specific WB value string.
I would like to see both EXIF WB and the whole Camera Raw metadata section added to available metadata in Lightroom. This way one would be able to e.g. search for photos having Color noise reduction slider setting set to 25. Maybe it would be useful to be able to search for value ranges as well (any photo with Color NR of 25 and more).
P.S. This whole WB quest was to find photos with WB of 2000 to support the feature request of extending available WB range below 2000 in ACR.
    Regards
    m.

How about Keywording for this? Can be done now without waiting for a potential change to LR.
Out of current range WB has been previously requested here, for a long time.

First of all, where can I find the list of forum discussions? All I have been able to see is a list of questions. I'd like to know where this post ends up so I can monitor the answers if any.
Regarding my current version of CS6/ACR (version 7?), how long will it be supported for new camera and lens profiles. Not likely I will ever be able to afford the ultimate $600/year for apps I will never use, but I may very likely buy a new camera. Am I stuck with Lightroom for RAW conversions?

  • DPP Settings to ACR

Hello I have a Canon EOS 60D in DPP the image looks fantastic but when i transfer it to ACR the colors and everything look completely different is there a profiloe or something that can get these two programs images to look the same?

    Well...no.
You can try using a different DNG Profile (in the Camera Calibration panel) to get different color rendering but the bottom line is that what the camera or DPP thinks is optimal in a raw file has no bearing on what ACR thinks is optimal. A raw file is raw and is expected to be adjusted to taste. There is no "correct" rendering...Canon has it's own interpretation of what Canon thinks your raw file should look like and it really isn't any more "correct" (nor incorrect) that what ACR thinks it should look like. Learn how to use ACR's controls and how to adjust your image to your taste. And the odds are it won't be what either Canon nor Adobe thinks your image should look like at "Default".

  • ACR 4.1 & Photoshop Elements 4.0 (Mac)

When I try to use ACR 4.1 with my Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Mac I get a
message that says Photoshop doesn't recognize this type of file. The file is a Nikon NEF and it works fine with ACR 3.7.
Also, the notes say ACR 4.1 won't work in versions earlier than Photoshop Elements 4.01 for Mac. When I run the updater it says my version (4.0) is up to date. Where and what is PSE 4.01? If that's what I need to make ACR 4.1 work how do I get PSE 4.01?

Support for the Nikon D50 was added in Camera Raw 3.2. So it should work with 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 or 3.7. Which version of Camera Raw do you have installed now? You may need to manually download and install Camera Raw 3.7. You can find it at
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3591
To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0:
    1. Exit Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge
    2. Open the Finder
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home folder).
    4. Navigate to:
    (Please read directory carefully)
    Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats
    5. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in,
Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.

  • How to import a List of picture Numbers into Bridge

    Hi Bridge Forum ,

    it´s a text file.
i can copy and paste the numbers in the search window to find the pictures in the

But is there a way to import the complete list of numbers, so the pictures are listed at once ?
Or is there a script that enables bridge to read the list of numbers.

But is there a way to import the complete list of numbers, so the pictures are listed at once ?

To my knowledge there is no way to add this file in one time to the find command and I have very less knowledge about scripting. If you know how to use and create theme your goal could be to create one your own but the time and effort is far more then just rate or label the wanted files.
For example, You can have bridge pointed to the folder with all the files, if you have nested subfolder select the main folder and choose select items from subfolders in the view menu, this shows you all the files of the main folder in the content panel.
Select a sort order that corresponds with your list.
Scroll through the files and the ones you need you can either add one star or a label to it. When done select one star or the chosen label and you will only see the files you need.
really a piece of cake and take you no more then 5 minutes... :-0
I´ve seen that bridge comes with a colaborationtool but i didn´t realize this before and now

Not sure what you mean with collaboration tool but think you mean the option to reach PS functions via the Tools menu and select batch or photomerge?
This has bin there from the first edition as I try to recall and is very, very useful as there are many other tools in Bridge that will provide you a fast workflow.
I would advice you to buy (and read) the book Real World Camera Raw by Jeff Schewe and Bruce Fraser. There are editions for CS2, CS3, CS4 and CS5. It is written in very understandable language and you will find almost everything there is to know about ACR and Bridge and how to create perfectly and fast workflows
