ACR thinks Nikon D40X images are 6144 x 4113

When I open my NEF files in ACR it says they are much higher resolution than they really are: 6144 x 4113. Then when I open them to edit in CS3 that size is carried over. ACR thinks my sensor is 25 mp!
But when I open them in Lightroom they are correctly sized: 3872 x 2592, and that size is carried over into CS3 when I open them in CS3 from LR.
This behavior started with a fairly recent ACR update -- I'm not sure exactly when.
This is in Windows, latest version of RAW, CS3, LR.

Aha, You are right. I don't recall doing that and didn't realize you could pick a resolution there -- thought it was just for choosing the color space.

  • ACR 4.1 Issue - Lightroom Issue with Nikon D40x Raw Files

    I am running Windows Vista and CS3 and am trying to process Nikon D40x raw files (NEFs) using ACR 4.1. The images come up properly in Bridge. However, when I try to add metadata using a metadata template, I get the error: "There was an error writing metadata to DSC_130.NEF." When I try to rotate an image in Bridge, I get the same error. If I try to do a Batch Rename, the name does not change. If I double-click on the image, it opens properly in ACR and the image can be rotated in ACR, and it then appears rotated in Bridge.
    I also tried importing the D40x images in Lightroom. The following error appeared: "Problem Importing Files. The following files were not imported. The files appear to be unsupported or damaged."

    Jeff,
    I installed camera raw.8bi (size is 10,187kb)in
    c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
    I'm beginning to think this is a Windows Vista issue. I just installed ACR 4.1 on my XP laptop and it works fine. For both the Vista machine and the laptop, my raw files are on an external drive. If I move the raw files on the Vista machine from the external drive to the c: drive, there is no problem. I'm exploring whether there is some permissions issue in Vista that is not allowing me to write to the raw files if they are on an external drive. Ain't new operating systems just great fun!
    Thanks!

  • NEF (nikon RAW) files are becoming Desaturated while 'viewing in Bridge'/'opening in ACR'..HELP!

    i use
    1)Nikon D80
    2)Adobe bridge to get the images from the camera
    3)ACR to retouch the the photo a lil bit.
    i set 'Saturation +2' and 'contrast +2' in My camera.
    I get very nice vivid tone in my images IN MY CAMERA LCD
    but recently my life is in jeopardy
    i dont know why but my NEF files are not that nice when i open them up in bridge.
    I wasn't sure where it went wrong.
    So i shot RAW+JPEG so that i get the JPEG from the camera.
    and My JPEGs are perfectly OK.
    lets give you guys a look what i am talking about::
    this came from the camera as JPEG
    and this came from the SAME camera as RAW (i saved it without any modification from ACR)
    WHY? AnD WHAT IS THE SOLUTION??
    EXTRA INFO YOU MAY NEED ::
    my JPEG says sRGB
    and my NEFs says Untagged
    and in my camera setting i used sRGB...which is 'MODE3A' in my D80
    And now i have some important pictures in my camera
    Very important.
    Is there any way to save them?(except working in ACR)

    First off, the only camera settings that have any direct impact on the raw files is ISO and F stop/shutter speed. All other camera adjustments to the image are merely metadata adjustments used by the camera or camera software to process the image. Camera Raw doesn't use any of those settings at all. So, if you are shooting raw intended for processing in Camera Raw, you would do well to not use camera adjustments to the images.
    As far as matching the basic default camera LCD, that's a function of knowing how to use the DNG Profiles for either Camera Raw 4.6 or 5.5. There are specific profiles intended to render certain camera makers "looks". If you wish, you can either modify your camera's "Default" in Camera Raw or use Presets to apply settings in Camera Raw or Bridge.

  • My ACR will not recognize Nikon RAW images

    I had a friend take our family photos today and she used her Nikon d600 (rather than my Canon 5D MkII--she didn't want to use a camera than she didn't know how to use, understandably!). She gave me her SD card so that I could transfer the images to my computer and then do my own editing, etc. However, her Nikon (NEF) files are not being recognized by my ACR. What do I need to do? Is there a download? An update? A plugin? I'm totally unfamiliar with this problem.  PLEASE HELP!! (I have ACR version 5.7.0.213 and CS4.)

    You need at least Adobe Camera Raw 7.2 and only Photoshop CS6 has it.
    If upgrading to CS6 or the CC is out of the question, then you will be converting the D600 raws to dng format to open in ACR 5.7

  • Aperture 2 Thinks Referenced Images are Offline with Network Home Directory

    Aperture thinks my Home directory is offline, but it's not. My Home directory is on a Mac OS X Server on the LAN (i.e., not on the machine in front of me that I run Aperture 2 on). I'm able to import images from my Nikon D200 in RAW/NEF format using Aperture 2, and write them to my Network Home directory (again, on the Mac OS X Server across the LAN) with no problem. Images are added to Aperture Library as REFERENCED images. Actual image files and Aperture Library are within the Pictures folder in my Network Home directory (on the OS X Server across the LAN). Previews and images show up fine initially. However, after importing and quitting, the next launch of Aperture 2 shows those same imported/referenced images as being offline (i.e., alias badge with red strike-thru). No way to get Aperture 2 to recognize that these image files are really ONLINE, not off.
    Tried to re-establish the link from Aperture to each image file using File->Manage Referenced Images..., but that corrupted something. Image becomes red slate with "Unsupported Image Format" message, and image preview goes blank/gray on next Aperture 2 launch.
    Previous version of Aperture (v1.5.?) did not have this problem.

    Thanks for the replies (in triplicate! from grommet). More information:
    REFERENCED images that were imported earlier (using Aperture v1.5.x) show up ON-LINE in Aperture 2 (i.e., all is OK with the earlier images; referenced image badge has no red strike-thru).
    The images that were imported more recently--all with Aperture 2--continue to show the referenced image badge with the red strike-thru, indicating Aperture thinks they're OFF-LINE (even though they're not). This makes it impossible to edit or use any of the more recent images that were imported with Aperture 2.
    Here's the kicker: the more recent images imported with Aperture 2 and indicated as being OFF-LINE are stored in the SAME general file location as the earlier images that were imported with Aperture v1.5.x and are indicated as being ON-LINE!
    My Home Directory is on a Mac OS X Server across the LAN.
    Aperture Library is at: ~/Pictures/
    Earlier images are at: ~/Pictures/Digital Photos/Roll-000001/1999-05-26-0001.NEF
    Recent images are at: ~/Pictures/Digital Photos/Roll-000107/2008-04-17-0001.NEF
    Clearly a bug with Aperture 2. I've filed feedback with Apple. Hope to heck this bug is not overlooked in next incremental release. I'm stuck/dead in the water without a fix.

  • How will Aperture treat Nikon raw images which have been enhanced using Capture NX2 software?  Some are cropped and "developed" and some have been enhanced using the control point technology.  I have NIK sw as a plug-in in aperture.

    Actually, there is a Nik/Nikon connection — but I am pretty sure it is irrelevant to the OP's question. The connection is that Capture NX2 was written as a joint venture between Nikon and Nik. (The name similarity is a coincidence.)
    Capture NX2 is a cool program that incorporates the features of Nik's Viveza and Nikon's Raw processing engine, along with some other powerful image adjustment features. It provides, like Aperture, a losses workflow. Unlike Aperture, the adjustments (Edit Steps in C-NX terminology) are saved in the original NEF file along with the un-altered raw data. Multiple versions can be saved in a single NEF.

  • JPanel Multipe Images are cutoff (layout problem I think)

    I am adding images (custom JPanel: Entity class) to a JPanel but the images are getting cut off. I was originally trying BorderLayout but that only worked for one image and adding others added image cut-off the first or completely removed the original image all together. So I switched to other layouts and the closest I could get was BoxLayout however that adds a very large cut-off which is not acceptable either.
    So basically; How can I add images (from a custom JComponent) to a custom JPanel without bad effects such as the one present in the code.

    You got a bit of a concurrency time bomb on your hands with those Entity threads of yours. Your Entity class also inadvertently overrides Component#getX() and Component#getY() to return where the image is painted within the component. That can't be good. I'm also not sure how your Entity class is functionally different from a simple JLabel with an ImageIcon and a (20,20,20,20) empty border.
    But as for your immediate problem: 1) Use FlowLayout for your Graphics panel, 2) Include a revalidate() call after you set the preferred size in the run() method of your Entity class 3) Don't override Component#getX() and Component#getY() in your Entity class and 4) Add the GraphicsPanel to the frame before, not after, you make the frame visible.

  • Nikon D40x Lightroom Problem

    I have also posted this message in the ACR and Bridge Forums:

    I think from my reading at Adobe that there is to be an update to LR very soon, (not V1.1!) that will update the ACR engine in LR to handle the D40X.

  • Color - Shine - background column of panels, contour line of tools and image area in Camera RAW

    Is there any way to change - obscure - the brightness of the column trim panels and the outline of the image area in Camera Raw?.
    In ACR 8.4 can change the brightness of the background image area - as in Ps - but can not find how to do the rest, and the truth is that it is a problem, since the image is darker than actual because of the brightness of the surrounding areas. Ideally there would be neutral gray .....
    If you see an image in Bridge, having selected dark backgrounds for both the preview area and the various windows - thumbnails , metadata, folders , etc. - , as if we see in Ps with the same type of configuration (something Ps presents with dark background both in the area of image and layered windows , settings , menus, tools, etc ....) , we will see the picture clearer than in ACR , ie , if we develop a RAW file in ACR, especially if you have dark areas - eg night photographs - , end up leaving it more clear what is right, because of the contrast - glare - with the brightness of the area surrounding the image window , but I can not check until we go to Photoshop or return to Bridge.
    So .... Is there any way to write the ACR window looking like Bridge or Photoshop ?. Is there a way to darken those areas (as there is in Bridge or Photoshop)?
    If not, is something that developers should think about going ACR implemented with an update .....
    (Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question ..... If not, I pray you tell me where to)
    Thank you very much and kind regards

    It took a long time to bring a dark UI to Photoshop & Bridge...sparked in part by Lightroom's dark UI. But, dealing with custom UI in plug-ins is a slightly different problem...I would like to see a dark UI as well. But it boils down to feature triage...given X number of engineer hours per version, what features are top most in the must haves...the elves on ACR are always working on new things. Hopefully a UI revamp (not just dark UI but also configurable panels and some other niceties) will rise to the top of the list.
    One advantage of the new CC subscription model is that new features don't have to wait till some arbitrary major version number. New things can get added as they get done. Hopefully this will free up the ACR engineers to do some cool new things, sooner rather than later!

  • CS3 ACR and Nikon Profiles

    I recently installed CS3 on an older Dell workstation (ca 2005 or so) to enable the use of the Epson scanner on XP Sp3. I also want the user of that computer to access CS3 to at least learn fundamentals. CS3 shows 10.0.1, ACR 4.6.0.30. All I can see in Calibration is 3.6 and 4.6, not even Adobe Standard. I have not had this happen on previous installations on XP and I am stumped. This isn't a big problem, the scanner doesn't use them, but certainly, she should have access to those profiles.
    There are two versions of View NX on that machine which she has been using but I have that on my own machine (Win 7) with no apparent interference.
    So, what am I missing?
    I should add that the Nikon cameras are D80 and D90, both supported by 4.6

    While ACR 4.6 can (if I recall correctly) use DNG profiles, I don't think they were installed with ACR, I think they were (and are now) installed with the free DNG Converter. The current shipping version is 6.6 which should run in XP. Install that and you should then have the DNG profiles.

  • Nikon D40x (10.2 MP)

    Does anyone know how the Nikon D40x (10.2 Megapixels) is?  I really want a camera that's good outdoors at night, and my camera has been a disappointment.

    Hi fowkeska,
    The Nikon D40X DSLR camera is a good camera, and you should be able to take pretty good photographs outdoors at night. Keep in mind that nighttime photography is one of the most challenging types of photography there is. The reason for this is that cameras rely on light to be able to capture images, and the less light there is the more difficult it will be to capture a successful image. If you want to take nighttime photographs using the available natural light, you are going to need a tripod almost all of the time. The use of a tripod will allow you to use much slower shutter speeds without getting blurred images. At slow shutter speeds just the act of pressing the shutter button can shake the camera enough to blur your images, and because of this it would also be a good idea to get a remote release for your camera.
    Another problem that shows up in long-time exposures on digital cameras is digital noise, and I will say that higher end DSLR cameras will give you much better results than the Nikon D40X. The Nikon D40X is the entry level Nikon DSLR, and if you can afford a more advanced DSLR I would say buy it. You are on the right track when considering to purchase a DSLR camera for nighttime photography, because Point and Shoot cameras are just not made to take quality nighttime photographs. I hope this helps out!

    Hi Jdentremont,
    Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
    the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
    deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
    To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
    You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

    I have about 5,000 images in a Folder.  How can I determine which images are NOT in a Collection?

    Create a smart collection with criteria "collection" and "does not contain"; and also with criterion Folder contains (or folder contains all)
    That works if you are thinking about a specific named collection.
    If you are interested in finding photos that are not in ANY collection, the usual trick is "collection" "does not contain" "a e i o u y"

  • Error message when uploading book for printing. All images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large to upload? What size is required and how do I reduce size in Aperture?

    I receive an error message when I upload my book for printing. Not sure what the problem is. All my images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large as it takes about 15minutes to upload to Apple. How do I reduce the size of the image in Aperture?

    Hi Leonie,
    Thanks for your reply.
    Error message below. The preview is fine . I can discount the first 2messages as its a new computer so plenty of disk space and upload doesn't seem to be interrupted. I have uploaded to iphoto before. have tried to upload 3times with the same error message. I had to photo my slides with a Kaiser Baas photo maker , which apparently doesn't scan but takes photos in megapixels of the slides. I am wondering now if the format is incompatible though they are jpg files or the colour type wrong. The image files are  around 1-3 mb each and  72 ppi. I think  I will now scan them properly with a scanner to 300dpi anyway to improve quality.
    Apple  talks about image files not being too big for uploading but gives no sizing of what too big is?
    Error message
    1. Upload Error. Loss of connection or file corruption during order upload may cause an incomplete order. Resubmitting your order usually resolves this issue.
    2. Low Disk Space. If your computer is running on low disk space, your files may be assembled incorrectly. Create more space by deleting unused files.
    3. Unreadable PDF file or image files. Files are sometimes assembled incorrectly due to CMYK or Grayscale color space. Use the RGB color space for best results.

  • Sometimes, some images are not shown...

    Hi!
    Out applet shows (or loads?) all images correctly, but sometimes, one or more images are not shown (or loaded?). What can it be?

    I am having a similar problem so maybe someone can help me too.
    I find that my images load correctly most of the time, but once in a while (say 1 in 4 attempts), some of them dont load. The reliability of this is much better now that I have moved the images out of the jar, but its still not right
    I also find that sometimes the classes do not load. I get classdef.not.found for a file that really should be there. I can see that the jar containing it has been downloaded to the temp dir. I have been clearing my cache out manually for now between every attempt.
    I am not sure what code to show. I dont think its necessarily a problem with images since classes dont always load either, but here is the code for loading images anyway.
            MediaTracker tracker = new MediaTracker(applet);
            for (int i = 0; i < img.length; i++) {
              img[i] = applet.getImage(urlCodeBase, imagePath + images);
    tracker.addImage(img[i], i);
    tracker.waitForID(i);
    if (tracker.isErrorAny()) {
    System.err.println("Error loading image " + images[i]);
    My web content is being delivered by 3rd party hardware which might be rather slow - its hard to tell. My entire web content is approx 200KB. Results are the same using IE or Mozilla.
    Any ideas would be a great help!
