ACR with CS2 using Leopard

I have been using CS2 with Leopard.I upgraded from CS online with a download to CS2. My hard drive crashed. I was sent a link via email thru Adobe to download CS2 again. When I downloaded/installed the program, when opening Bridge the message I got was"The Application could not load Adobe Camera Raw. Use the Adobe Bridge Installer to install the adobe camera raw plug-in. I have 3.7 in the place that Ramo'n mentioned and no where else. What am I doing wrong can it work with out having to go to a lower Operating system?

Kellie,
>Use the Adobe Bridge Installer to install the adobe camera raw plug-in
That error message is incomprehensible. There is no independent "Bridge Installer" and Bridge has absolutely nothing to do with installing the Camera Raw plug.in.
I can't begin to imagine what would generate such a message error, ever.
I hope someone from the ACR Team responds to your post in the Adobe Camera Raw forum. The creator of both Photoshop and Camera Raw, Thomas Knoll, and one of the ACR Engineers, Eric Chan, are very active there, as is Jeff Schewe, who wrote THE book on Camera Raw.
I'm sure no one is ignoring you here, but, as I told you earlier, CS2 is not supported under Leopard. Basically, it it runs fine, if it doesn't, too bad.

When opening the installer, no destination disk appears.
I know many users work with CS2 in Leopard without a glitch.
    Any idea ?

I'm using Adobe Photohsop CS1 and it is working. There are a couple of little glitches, but nothing major. And whenever there is a major system upgrade you can ALWAYS figure there are some things that are going to break, which is why it is a good plan to install a new system on a new drive or second partition. AFAIK the things that don't work and will never work are Photoshop 7 and Elements 2.

  • Use Leopard with my TWO MAC's?

I have two MAC's - a desktop for home and a notebook for travel. I have the same OS X (10.4.11) on both now. I'm not familiar (yet) with OS X 10.5, but can I buy one copy and install it on both of my MAC's?

    Robert,
The EULA for the Leopard 10.5 Retail Package states that it is for one machine only. If you are looking to use Leopard on more than one machine, please consider purchasing the Leopard 10.5 Retail Family Package.

    Will be much appreciated !!
    Thanks.

    >Step 1. Backup existing data using time machine.
Time Machine is nice, but you have very little in terms of ability to verify that your data is all backed up.      I find Time Machine is better for the occasional recovery of previously written data at specific times.  A good backup solution that survives an erase and install (there is no clean install in Mac OS X), is a clone, and preferably TWO clones.    See my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Time Machine can work as good as a clone, and in fact I once had to rely on it because my hard drive died.  Thankfully it did recover everything.   But I had my clone just in case it didn't work.     Now I feel more comfortable since clones allow you to boot themselves, and thus prove all the important system information got saved, and not just the user data.
Clones are also easier to import with the migration assistant.

  • How to open CR2 from XSi with CS2?

I want to know if I would be able to open up RAW files from my Canon Rebel XSi with CS2.
First couldnt even preview the raw images on my computer so I downloaded a codec from Canon and now it shows the preview icons as the pics itself. Then I search and realized I would need ACR in my photoshop. Which apparently I already had. I downloaded 3.7 which is the version for CS2 and replaced it in the file folder it specified. I tried the DNG converter 4.1 at first. Now, this one let me select a folder to convert files from(my sd card in my computer) and it showed all the available files in the folder but when I went to convert them it wouldnt convert any of the files. Then I searched around some more. Downloaded the latest version of DNG and installed it. I tried setting the compatibility for my version. When I select a folder in this version of DNG it shows no available files to convert in my folder.
I just shot my pictures in RAW + jpg(yes the file sizes are quite different, i read a thread talking about corrupt files, so idk) this morning. I dont usually deal in RAW but I had been wanting to try it out for a while now. What I am trying to do is take a picture of a painting I did in a quality(would need to color correct) good enough to print. I figured a RAW image would work best for this.
Is there any way I could get this whole RAW image thing to work in CS2? I use windows vista home edition 64 bit, if that matters at all, which I dont think it should.

    Noel Carboni wrote:
    It's important to note:
The Select Source Folder dialog is for selecting a FOLDER, so you should not expect to see any FILEs in it.  Nobody does.  The DNG Converter works on folders.
This is just the way the DNG Converter works.  Once you've selected the folder, just press the [Convert] button and you'll find it does the job.
    -Noel
Actually, it isn't quite that simple.  On a Windows computer, at least all of the ones I have worked on, the DNG converter will actually see and list the files within the folder.

  • LR 1.1 with CS2?

In the readme file with LR 1.1 it says:
"Adobe applications must be updated with the Camera Raw 4.1 plug-in order to ensure compatibility with Lightroom 1.1 develop module settings. The following products will support the Camera Raw 4.1 plug-in: Photoshop S3, Photoshop Elements 4.01 for Mac, Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0 for Windows:
Do I unserstand correctly that LR1.1 will not work properly with CS2?
    Thanks.

I Agree. it is a strategic decision on the part of Adobe. They want
people to move on to CS3, and without the incentive of ACR 4.1, there
might be little reason to do so for many people.
Personally I consider CS3 a 'skip generation' of Photoshop... a worthy
upgrade if you are still on CS, but not if you are on CS2. But as a
photographer, CS3 adds very little in terms of functionality.
So yes, I think that requiring CS3 to use ACR 4.1 is strategic rather
    than technical.
"Feels slimy?" Not really. ACR 4.1 is an upgrade that by this time
should be revenue positive for Adobe.
    [email protected] wrote:
    > Edward, is it just my suspicious or is it that ACR 3.7 doesn't understand LR 1.1 adjustments instead. ACR is just a plug in that feeds bitmap data to CS2. So seems to me that the incompatibility is designed into ACR not CS2 and is therefore arbitrary rather than technical. Its a not so subtle push to encourage an upgrade to CS3.

  • Can't change all files to open with CS2 with CS3 installed

I have InDesign CS2 and CS3 installed on my macbook (10.5). CS3 is buggy to the point where its unusable, but I need it installed because once in awhile I receive files saved in that format.
I wanted to change, through any Get Info window, all Indesign files to Open With CS2 instead of CS3. Problem is, whenever I hit "apply to all files" the OS just instantly changes the program back to CS3.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Let me be a bit clearer.
When I installed CS3, it switched the "Open With" program association of all my CS2 files to CS3. This means the icons for all my CS2 files changed to CS3 icons. And when I double click on my CS2 files, they open in CS3, even if I already have CS2 open. If I have CS2 open, the system just starts opening CS3.
Worse yet, upon installing CS3, all of my CS2 files were CHANGED to CS3 files (looking under "kind" in the "info" windows.
I had thought I could just change all INDD files to asssociate with CS2, but when I go to "Get Info" on a file (CS2 or 3, doesn't matter which), and change the "Open with" to CS2, and hit "Change All", the "Open With" Just changes right back to CS3. Augh.
For now, I just use the "Open" dialogue in CS2 or drag and drop the files. Pain in the rear. So I thought I'd post here.
And though I don't want this to be a discussion of whether CS3 is buggy or not, I'll just say that my system was plagued by the CS3/Leopard NavSvcs and Hide bugs, (only a problem in Mac OS 10.5), both of which have been recognized by Apple and Adobe, as well as thoroughly blogged about by Tim Cole and MacFixit, and countless others.
My favorite is this from the InDesign 5.0.2 Readme file:
This update does not address recently identified issues running Adobe InDesign CS3 on Mac OS
X Leopard (v10.5.1). Known issues include the following:
Users are unable to hide InDesign CS3 using the cmd+h keyboard shortcut.
InDesign CS3 may unexpectedly quit when using the Place, Save, Save As or Export
commands using either the OS or Adobe dialog boxes.
Unfortunately, there are no workarounds for these known issues.
Yes, that's right. I'm one of those lucky folks who's experiencing the known bug where InDesign CS3 crashes when you try to open or save a file. I'm not a troll, I just simply can't use it! Haha.

  • CS2 on Leopard?

I've upgraded to OS X 10.5.6. Will CS2 run on Leopard?
Pleeease don't say, "try it and find out." I'm having to do this on a new internal hard drive after Bad Things happened to my old startup disk, so I'll need to deactivate CS2 on the old disk before I can activate it on the new one. I don't want to be left hanging in limbo.

    What computer are you using?
if its one that will run Tiger stay with Tiger. CS2 is not supported in Leopard. It works for some and not for others. If you are using a Macintel it will run in Rosetta which is PowerPC emulation. This will add another level of frustration and problems.
If you are set on using Leopard it would be best to upgrade to CS4 If you do it now you will miss the tiered pricing that will soon be implemented save yourself $200

  • What's wrong with networking since Leopard?

    Hi,
I'm with Mac since years. I was a PC User once and spent hours with all kinds of network troubles. What convinced me with Mac right in the beginning was easy networking: It just worked!
But since Leopard things got worse: I have several MBP's, iMacs, Airport Extreme's and Airport Express's at different places which I installed, and I face the same problems at EVERY place:
    - I can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility, ...
    - Sometimes only two Macs are allowed to connect to one AExtreme
    - Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
    - After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
    - Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
    - connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
Now I know about networking, about configuration, I've done this for years. Whatever I do, problems disappear and appear again, at different times, at different places with different hardware.
What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.

What's wrong with networking since Leopard?
on my network and many i have setup there have been no problems with leopard. However there are always teething problems with new operating systems. Thankfully with leopard only a tiny percentage of users experience technical difficulties.
can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility,
is it set to use WPA/WPA2
Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
sometimes my macbook pro takes a while to show up any networks if there are lots in the area this is because it is scanning them all.
After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
What kind of router are you using? What happens if you powercycle the router?
    # Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
    # connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
Have you tried resetting your AE to default. reinstalling its firmware or checking for a firmware update?
Have you tried changing hte wireless channel your networ is broadcasting on?
What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.
Did you upgrade install your leopard installation or did you do clean (erase) installations?
Have you tried created new network locations?

  • Can I use Leopard Server for a few things without a static IP/DNS mapping?

Caveat: I'm pretty capable at setting up and running macs, but not a crack server admin or anything like that. I don't write code and my eyes start to glaze over when you start talking about Kerbos and the like...
Question: I'd like to use Leopard server for a few things on my local network - with some vpn access to the same services:
    - iCal server (the most important feature) for 3 users
    - File server services for Time Machine (yes, base Leopard can do this)
    - vpn access into the iCal server for one user
Do I have to go through the headache of switching over from a dynamic IP to a static IP, setting up DNS mapping, etc? Or is there a simpler way?
    Any help appreciated. Thanks

  • Problems with ViaVoice under Leopard, especially key mapping problems

ViaVoice's behavior has changed considerably under Leopard. First I will discuss the key mapping problem, since I'm eagerly looking for an answer to this problem. At the end of this post, I will voice some of the other problems I've experienced for those who may be interested. The key mapping problem may be specific to the fact that I use a foreign keyboard with a US version of ViaVoice.
    INTRO:
I have used ViaVoice on my Mac for years, more or less without problems (ViaVoice's bugginess is notorious).
Those who know ViaVoice will know that one has two general options for dictation. One can dictate into ViaVoice's so-called SpeakPad, which allows special formatting, editing and dictation error correction within the dictated text, or one can dictate into "external" software such as Microsoft Word, in which case ViaVoice just sends a string of characters to that software. SpeakPad appears to make strong use of the operating system's built-in functionality for character formatting, document formatting, etc.
    *MY PROBLEM*
I have a German keyboard on my PowerBook, yet dictate in US English. When I dictated into SpeakPad under Tiger, all characters appeared correctly. However, when I dictated into Microsoft Word using Tiger, I had to switch the keyboard mapping from German to US to get all characters (that means including the characters that are located at different positions on a German keyboard than they are on a US keyboard such as y, z, apostrophes and parentheses) to appear correctly.
Under Leopard, things have changed. Now it doesn't matter whether I dictate into SpeakPad or Word; the results are the same and many characters do not appear correctly.
If set to a German keyboard, y and z appear as expected. To name a few irregularities:
    "(" appears as ")"
    ")" appears as "="
    apostrophes appear as "#" and
    ";" appears as ","
If set to a US keyboard, y and z are interchanged. "(" and ")" appear as expected. Apostrophes appear as "\" and ";" appears as ","
By comparison, if typed (as opposed to dictated, as in the examples above) "correctly" (i.e. based on the letters printed on the keyboard) on a German keyboard set to imitate a US keyboard:
    y and z are interchanged
    apostrophes appear as "|"
    "(" appears as "*"
    ")" appears as "(" and
";" appears as the symbol for "less than"
Since I don't have a US keyboard, I can't say how it would behave if set to imitate a German keyboard, i.e. if there's a correlation to the results I get when I dictate.
Since I was previously able to dictate correctly into SpeakPad by setting the keyboard to "German" and into Word by setting the keyboard to "US," I presume that this is a problem in Leopard, not ViaVoice.
*OTHER PROBLEMS WITH VIAVOICE UNDER LEOPARD*
In addition to the aforementioned key mapping problems (that may be specific to those of us with foreign keyboards), ViaVoice appears to have lost considerable functionality in Leopard. I cannot access SpeakPad's Preferences and the correction window. Moreover, the traffic-light like window buttons have disappeared from the VoiceCenter (although they work if you click where they should be). SetupAssistent appears to function.
I've written to Nuance about these problems, but have little hope that they will invest the time in producing a patch since they haven't released any updates since 2003.

    Thrums1,
I've never had to "register" ViaVoice after updating the system. I thus suspect you haven't fully followed my above, three-step advice (particularly step 3).
    1) Reinstall ViaVoice from CD.
    2) Update to the latest version (using the patch downloadable from Nuance's website).
    3) Replace the “temp” and “users” folders (in the "ViaVoice" folder at the upper level of your home directory) by a previous copy thereof. When I say previous copy, I mean a copy from when ViaVoice was still working properly, e.g. a copy from when it was running under Tiger.
As I said, I've gotten ViaVoice to survive several system updates by following the above steps. To my knowledge, the last step is critical since it saves you from having to reconfigure ViaVoice under the new operating system (in this case Leopard). I suspect that ViaVoice is crashing on your system because it's trying to start some module of the SetUpAssistant that is incompatible with Leopard (as many are). If you instead use old copies of the "temp" and "users" folders (from the previous system), then ViaVoice doesn't have to go through the initial "registration" process; ViaVoice doesn't need the SetUpAssistant; and all is (more or less) fine.
    Good luck!
BTW, to my knowledge, Dictate only runs on Intel Macs. It thus won't run on a G4 iBook, just as it won't run on my PowerBook G4.

  • Can I Boot an iMAC i7 Mt Lion using Leopard?

My 2009 iMAC 2.8 Intel Core Duo 24" 10.5.8 (Leopard) lost it's Fire Wire. (Long Story-my fault)  Shop told me it needs a logic board.  ($1400.-1500.00) Apple care is well over.  Otherwise the unit works well.  No wireless, no mobile devices.  Well as luck would have it, a while back, my wife had asked me to transfer all our home VHS tapes to Digital. (DVD)  About 12 of them. I finished 4, using iMovie 6, and added titles and other FX as well, before the FW died.  The camera that I use to transfer the analog to digital is FW 400.  So when I told her I couldn't finish the transfers, she told me to buy a new computer.
I want an to buy an iMAC 27" i7.  But I've been told by Apple and another vendor that the i7 (or i5 for that matter) won't boot using Leopard.  The reason why I want to stay with Leopard for this project and a few others I'm working on is: I'm used to iMovie 6 and other apps that won't run on the i7.  (I also spent a lot of money for iMovie 6 FX)  Of course I will eventually learn to use the newer iMovie and other apps and services that come with the i7, but I don't want to spend time learning them now.  I want to finish the VHS transfers and be done with them. I'm also working on 2 novels using Apple Works (both for 10 years - will I ever get them done?)  I've tried transferring the Apple Works stories into other various word processors, but the formatting doesn't hold. I have hundreds of pages finished on each novel so far.  I'm on disability and I'm pretty much home bound.  I was floored when my wife gave be carte blanch to buy a new Mac. I don't want to give up this windfall.
One thing I thought of was that I should be able to capture the VHS in the i7 into Quicktime.  Then save it on an ext. HD or flash drive and transfer it to my 24" iMac. (or network the two through the ethernet, which I'm not familiar with)  I'm running QT Pro 7.6.4.  Would this work?  I'm not sure what version of QT the i7 will come with.  But hopefully it won't matter?
Any suggestions or comments will be well appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.
