Acrobat 6.0 as a printing option

In prior installations of Windows Acrobat professional 6.0 on a Windows 7 machine I could see it along with my laser printer as an option where a PDF could be created.  I can reinstall and hope but I would first ask if this has been encountered  by any other user and might this be something that one could troubleshoot before reinstalling.  Guidance sought.

You may be able to get AA6 to work in Win7, but you will have to deal with workarounds. The typical way to do this is to change the printer port to file, not the Adobe PDF port. Once printed, you will have a PS file that will have to be processed by Distiller. The main problem with the printing process is that AcroTray fails with Win7. AcroTray is the background tool that automates the conversion of the PS file to a PDF file with Distiller (something not seen by the user). This part is broken and so printing to file will create a PS file (typically having a prn extension) that can manually be processed by Distiller.
If such a work around is not acceptable, then you need to upgrade to AA X.

  • Why does Adobe keep releasing updates for Acrobat that make the PDF print option diasappear?

I am really disappointed that after installing an update to  Acrobat 9 my PDF printer has disappeared from my printer list.
This is the second time this has happened. The last time this happened Adobe were still supporting Acrobat 9 and they ended up having to remote in to my machine to fix it.
Now I have to pay if i want that level of support!!! It begs the question why they release these destructive updates. Is it to force people to upgrade to X or purchase support.
Can anybody give me some instructions on how to manually install the PDF printer?
    I am running windows 7

Launch the Devices and printers setup utility through the Control Panel.
    2Select the \"Add a Printer\" option.
3Click the \"Next\" button and select the \"Local Printer Attached to This Computer\" option.
4Deselect (uncheck the box) the  \"Automatically Detect and Install My Plug and Play Printer\" option and  click the \"Next\" button.
5Select \"My Documents\\*.pdf (Adobe PDF)\" in the port selection drop-down menu and click the \"Next\" button.
6Select the \"Have Disk\" option and click the \"Browse\" button to open a dialog box.
7Select the \"AdobePDF.inf\" file  located in the AdobePDF folder in your Program Files directory under  \"Adobe,\" \"Acrobat 9.0,\" \"Acrobat,\" \"Xtras.\"
8Select the first item (top item) on the list of Adobe PDF Converter options and click the \"Next\" button.
9Type \"Adobe PDF\" in the field for a printer name and click \"Next.\"

  • 9.3.3 Acrobat Reader: Slow to get printer options tab prior to printing

9.3.3 needs to be fixed.  It takes forever to get the Windows printer tab.  Went back to 8.2; no problems with that platform.  Running a Brother HL-2040 local printer.  Downloaded the latest XP driver.  It wasn't that.

You have a lot of good information in your post, but I am still unclear  what the issue is. Possibilities to check out:
    - Is your question regarding printing pdf files to ink printers? If so, have you tried selecting "Choose paper source by PDF page size" instead of manually choosing the page size? This work well for most print situations.
    - If your question was regarding printing to pdf from programs like Word or Excel, those programs' page setup settings would determine the paper size; you would not alter the setting during print. As long as you did not change the default page setup settings, the settings would be on a document-by-document basis.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended | Print Option | Enable Flash Object Issue

    Hi,
We are facing some problems with Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended Print Option.
We had a requirement to embed interactive Flash graphs in the PDF file, user will interact with these graphs and whatever graph he plotted, the data for it will be saved in PDF text field, so that on the next launch we can fetch the data to the flash from PDF text fields, so that user can see what changes he did last time. This works great, we are able to successfully comminicate from PDF to flash and then from Flash to PDF.
Please note that, PDF can have multiple graphs on different pages.
The issue we are facing is when we interact with the graphs and then try to print the PDF, in that case only the currently active graph or flash file (The page on which user is currently on) will be seen enabled in the print, the graphs on the other pages, which are not currently visible are seen in disabled state hence the data on it does not get printed.
We have also used the "RMA.activated = true;" command, still no success. Please refer to the screen shots below to understand the issue in more detail..
    Flash Embed Options:
In the Print Option, it looks disabled:
The required/desired output is as follows:
We want all Graphs to get printed in enabled state and with the data user had entered. Please do let me know, if there is any workaround to achive this functionality.

Which version. I think it is a minimum of AA9.2 that is needed for X64. Anyway, you should probably either open Acrobat and do the update (help menu) or download all of the updates from Adobe>downloads>updates and install them in order. The current version is AA9.3.4.

  • After installing an update to Acrobat on my Windows computer, the option to print to .pdf disappears from my printer options menu in all programs.  What can I do?

This is the second time I updated my Adobe Acrobat X Pro program and the option to "Print to .pdf" disappears from my word processing program and all other programs I am running.  Last time I uninstalled Acrobat and reinstalled and that fixed the problem, but that was a long process.  Is there any other way to restore the option?

Do you mean there is no Adobe PDF printer listed? You can check the Start>Devices & Printers list and be sure it appears there.

  • Duplex printing option no longer avaialble in Preview and TextEdit.

I am no longer offered the option to select two-sided printing for .pdfs in Preview or for text documents in TextEdit when using my HP Officejet K550. The printing options no longer allow me to select Paper Type or Print Quality for these documents either. If I open a the same .pdf in Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro, the duplex, paper, and quality options are available. I have the latest driver and firmware updates from HP, and my Apple software is up to date. HP Support suggests it is an issue with the applications from which I'm printing (e.g. Preview).
Does anybody know why this has happened or how to restore these options when printing from Preview or TextEdit?
Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Since you are using an Intel Mac, the two applications you mention have been written in Universal Binary. For your HP printer driver, if it relies on print dialog extensions (pde's) to make these options available, and these same files have been written for the older Power PC processor, then this can make the options unavailable when printing from Universal applications. And that could explain why they are available when printing from Acrobat, as this is probably still the PPC version.
The solution would be to find a Universal version of the HP driver (I know you mentioned you have the latest but if its not Universal then it will have this issue).
To prove it is a Universal vs PPC issue, you can change Preview so that it opens using the Rosetta emulator. Control-click on the Preview icon and select Get Info. Select the check box "Open using Rosetta" and then close the window. Then open Preview and try to print two-sided.

  • Print PDF with special print options of Canon IR printer

    Hi,
We have a collection (db driven) of PDF documents that we want to send to our network printers. Some document need a hole punch of some other specific printeroptions of a Canon IR printer.
The ideal solutions is a windows application where i could define virtual printers with their print options (pdf and printer specific).
    Eg:
A user creates in a the windows app a virtual printer with name and print options
    - FastPunch: Printer IR5570 with hole punch
    - Fast: Printer IR5570
    - Color: IR C4080
    - ColorBooklet: IR C4080 with booklet options
When the app starts its batch it will look at de db and find rows with an PDF and the name of a virtual printer. The documents are printed with specific printer preferences.
Does someone has experience with such an solution? Tips?
Someone wants to make this in vb.net (or c#)? What cost?
    gtx, Pierre

I have downloaded the Acrobat SDK but I haven't really waded through the documentation or samples yet. I've only been working on this project for about 3 days now and not full time. This isn't the highest priority at work. I've worked a bit with the adobe reader control and that looks like it has some promise.
    I have two significant problems:
    1) I don't want the user to see any windows appear other than my console application. That way I have it working right now, Acrobat is required and appears minimized while the file is spooled and then is closed after spooling completes. Not so horrible but I'd like to get away from it if possible. To print the file right now I'm using the startprocess module or something (new version of shell I think). I'm starting the pdf with the verb "Printto" and that tells Acrobat to print to a printer that I specify.
2)Biggest problem. I have no reliable way to change the number of copies or any other print settings. I am not willing to write a program that spools a single copy multiple times just to get multiple copies. Currently my program uses rundll to open a printer preferences dialog, and SendKeys to modify the print settings. This means that the computer cannot be used while automated printing is occurring.
Right now the program's only saving grace is that it allows the user to be ignorant of the job settings so that all the user has to do is indicate an item number and quantity and walk away (hoping nothing changes the focus and derails SendKeys - but we know that kind of thing never happens in XP :P )

  • How to set up Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5 as printer in Mountain Lion

How do I set up Adobe Acrobat 9 as printer in Mountain Lion as I would with Windows?

Changes in OS X made it impossible for Acrobat Pro to install a "printer" for itself as it did before Snow Leopard. The PPD for Acrobat was always very buggy anyway, so no one really misses that part of it.
For any Adobe app (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), you instead go to the File menu and choose the PDF flyout, as show here:
For other apps, you hit Command+P as always and open the Adobe PDF options at the lower left of the print dialogue box:
Choose "Save as Adobe PDF" and continue on from there to choose your PDF settings.
Quark XPress has all of the pro PDF options built in to its output. You don't use access Acrobat Pro at all in the menus or standard print dialogue.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 will not print to printer in OS X 10.7

I have a new MacbookPro that came with Lion already installed. I installed a new copy of Acrobat 9 Pro from the OEM CD. All functions including printing to my Brother Laser printer and Canon inkjet worked. I installed the Lion 10.7.2 update and I can no longer print pdf on either printer. Other apps print fine. I get "Error" message under "Status" in printer dialogue box. I now have OS X 10.7.2 and Acrobat 9.4.6 installed. I cannot print pdf files to my printers. Latest drivers for both printers. Printers work fine with all other apps. I tried several combinations of Acrobat and Lion reinstalls. Nothing works. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

I've been having a similar problem with Acrobat Pro 9 and 10.6.8, using a Brother MFC 3240C inkjet. This has been going on about a week, since the last ink change. As a half-remedy, I can print pdf's using the "Print As Image" option, reached from the Acrobat print window under Advanced options. I can also print pdf's using Preview.
Are you able to Print As Image or print with Preview?
I had been thinking of upgrading to 10.7, but I don't want to make the situation worse.
In any case, with Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Reader 10, the 3240C print window and display shows everything normal and data moving to the printer, and it makes noises like it's printing, but it spits out blank sheets.
I had the same response you did out of AppleCare. They said they didn't think it was an Apple problem.

  • Right click print option not now available for pdfs

I have just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and am running Acrobat 9 Pro.  On a daily basis I get a batch of pdf files that I need to print.  In XP I would have right clicked and chosen Print, however this option is not available now I am on Windows 7.  It doesn't matter how many files I choose, even just picking one pdf the print option is not available.
    Any ideas?  Thanks very much

You are can  use batch processing to print a folder worth of files if you like.

  • PDF as a print option to my PC

You need to install software which acts as a virtual printer - in the case of Adobe software that will normally be Acrobat, or the cloud-driven CreatePDF printer app.

  • Right-click PRINT option not available in explorer WIN7

On 1 Win7 machine, in explorer, right-click has Print available, when selecting a PDF. On another machine, it does not.
What provides that command in the context menu? How to add it?
    Both 64-bit.
    I have Reader X 10.1.0 installed.
There is also another difference. On status bar on pc with working printing option I see Adobe Acrobat document, On another machine: PDF-file. Different icons.

I forgot to write that I do not have map C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat Elements with ContextMenu64.dll, only C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10.0 on both pc's.

  • Acrobat X: Lost default duplex print

When I upgraded, I lost the ability to duplex print by default and would like to know if I can restore it. I'm working on a mac and there is no duplex option in Acrobat's print command. My printer settings are set on duplex and it operates just fine in other programs. In Acrobat, I have to go into its printer settings via Properties to select duplex. I just want Acrobat to not override my printer settings and default to single-sided when I want 2-sided. Is there way to at least change the default print settings in Acrobat without having to change the Properties setting for each and every file? What an odd feature for Adobe to put into this software and I hope a fix is imminent if there is no simple solution in the current version. One expects an upgrade to be an improvement only in areas where it improves the workflow, not detracts from it, yes?

The changes in Acrobat & Reader 10.1.2 associated with printing were clearly a big problem. As far as we know,  no one actually lost the capability of controlling simplex versus duplex printing, but rather, a very ill-conceived mechanism was introduced that assumed that if your printer has duplex capabilities of any type, you would or should use them.
The plans of record are to provide a fix for this issue in the next quarterly update to Acrobat and Reader due next month. There will be a control for duplex in the print dialog, but it will only reflect what you have already set in the printer properties (either on Windows or Macintosh). The dialog will allow you to change that setting while in Acrobat, but it will not make assumptions as to what you could or should do vis-a-vis duplex printing. In this respect, it will be similar to print dialogs in applications such as Microsoft Office in terms of allowing access to duplex printing, but not forcing it.
However, there is something peculiar in your particular situation. Normally, with Acrobat & Reader 10.1.2, if the printer supports duplex as determined by the printer's PPD file (for PostScript devices) or from the driver otherwise, you would see a duplex control in the print dialog itself. The fact that your printer supports duplex (correct?) and that you aren't seeing the duplex control in the print dialog is a problem we aren't currently aware of. You are seeing the forcing of duplex without the ability to control it from the print dialog? Correct? I'll send the report of this to the appropriate group within Acrobat engineering.

    Hello Dov.
Thank you for your input. Can you confirm that these strange printing issues would also cause my PDF files to print in color and 1-sided even when the default in Control panel for my printer is 2-sided and B&W?
    Thanks!

  • Why can't Adobe do something as simple as giving us a desktop shortcut?  Or even better allow us to access direct from print option as we could do if we had the software installed?

Why can't Adobe do something as simple as giving us a desktop shortcut?  Or even better allow us to access direct from print option as we could do if we had the software installed?

Now that I know you are talking about Cloud (not the focus of this forum -- a forum on Acrobat that does provide the icons and the reason for wondering what you were talking about). The Creative Cloud that I have does include the icons on the desktop. However, I am not familiar with the cloud service other than CC. If it is some other product, then exactly what is the product name. As far as CC, I get the icons on my desktop, so I am not sure what your problem might be.
If you did not like the tone, I am sorry, But I honestly had no clue what you were talking about because you only said that Adobe icons were not coming up. You provided no information on the product or operating system that are fundamental to providing help. Adobe (the company name) has about 150 forums dealing with different products probably numbering close to 100. So saying no Adobe icons was meaningless to me and thus the question. I was trying to get information to help you. If you took it as an insult, I am sorry.

  • Print options open slowly when choosing "printer" icon or using CTRL+P.

This has been an ongoing problem where I work. Basically we view Purchase orders through Acrobat Pro or Reader and print them to wherever they may need to go. The Problem we have, on only certain computers, is that the print options screen is very slow to open (sometimes takes about 10 seconds to show up). On other computers; it works immediatly upon clicking the printer icon or CTRL+P. This problem is slowly progressing on almost all of our computers, once it opens slowly the first time. It is never fixed. Our I.T. department has been looking into it for a long time. They have tried everything I can imagine and more to fix this. Any ideas as to what causes this or how it can be fixed? I am asking personally because it slows down my production majorly and we have a certain quota to reach. Any advise it appreciated. Thank you.

This is probably obvious but you didn't say.  Is this only happening on PDFs, or does it also happen out of other programs?  Large or small or does it matter?  And is it always the same PDFs?
