Acrobat 8.1.2 no longer prints to PDF

When a normal user logs in and tries to print anything to pdf we get an error message that says "Acrobat PDF: Access is Denied" and the PDF does not get created. But when an administrator logs in it will print to PDF with no problems. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution other than making users administrators on the PC.
Also note that this problem only occurs on computers that have Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 AND Adobe Illustrator CS3. Computers without Illustrator operate properly.

In doing some more research I think I figured out the problem.
It looks like they changed the registry location for the "Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\8.0\PrinterJobControl" key from the User to the Local Machine. But, the installer doesn't create the key under HKLM, so the "Adobe PDF" printer doesn't work at all for a normal user. Once an Administrator uses the printer, the key is created, and then the user gets the "Access Denied" error, because they don't have permission to make changes in that key. If you grant users "Full Access" to that key in HKLM, it starts working for normal users.
In previous version of Acrobat (version 7) this key was located in HKCU, and there were no problems.
I'm doing final testing now, but I am pretty sure this will solve the problem for me. I hope it helps others.

  • Acrobat X and XI will not print many pdf documents.

Acrobat X and XI will not print many pdf documents. When I click Print, the document fades and I get a dialog box that says "Adobe Acrobat has Stopped Working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I was experiencing this with Acrobat X so I upgraded to XI, but the problem is exactly the same. I am using Windows 7 Professional operating system.

Thank you for your reply. I have several printers available on our network,
the program doesn't even go as far as allowing me to select a printer. I am
trying to print to an HP 1320n or a LANIER MP C5502 PCL 6. I have changed
the default printer, but the result is still the same. In does the same
thing with Adobe (Standard XI) PDF set as the default printer.

  • Acrobat Pro XI Mac won't print a .pdf file, but Apple Preview will print correctly

    Hello,
I have Acrobat Pro XI for Mac.  recently I've run into pdf files that will show the document on screen ok, show up on print preview screen ok, but when I send it to a printer I either get:
    1.  no printout... the document passes through the printer queue ok, but nothing comes out (no blank paper, nothing).  no data seems to even reach the printer/print server.  no error.  the print job basically vanishes into thin air like the job was never sent
    2.  prints out with all the characters of a text substituted with squares (again, no error. just prints squares instead of text)
But when I print the same document using Apple's Preview program on the same machine, the file prints out fine.
I experience this problem with two different Macs, with two different OS versions.  Again both machines will print the .pdf file fine using Apple Preview, but not with Acrobat Pro XI.
I've searched for this problem, but no one seems to have this problem. I've tried just printing one page, etc., and no difference (won't print, or print wrong using Acrobat, but prints fine using Preview)
the files are typically sent via e-mail from a vendor, or a web downloaded form (invoice, forms filled out.  some are secure, some are not).  and these are from multiple sources.
Any ideas what might be the problem, and how to fix this?
    system:
Mac Pro (early 2008) and MacBook Pro (mid-2011)
MacOS 10.8.4 and 10.6.8 (multiple computers have this same problem)
    Acrobat Pro XI, 11.0.04
printer: HP LaserJet 5MP (yes.. old.. but it works) via HP JetDirect + print server on  LAN

I just found this solution on another board, I tried it  (I removed the same file listed below) and it worked for me....
Safari won’t save or print PDFs: how to fix

    :: Tags: Computers
If Safari won’t save or print PDFs (but views them without any problems), you probably have an Adobe PDF plug-in installed. In Safari, go to Help->Installed Plug-ins and do a search for “PDF.” If you have anything with “PDF” in it other than “WebKit built-in PDF,” that is probably the culprit.
On my computer, the problem was “AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin”. To remove it, I quit Safari, did a Spotlight search (Command-Option space) for that file name, and then dragged it to the trash. When I restarted Safari, I could print and save PDFs again. You can also manually find the plugins by going to the system “Library”  folder (the one at the root of your hard disk, not in your user folder) and looking in the “Internet Plug-Ins” folder.
    I’m on OS X 10.8.2, running Safari 6.0.2 (8536.26.17).

  • Acrobat Pro 9.51 Hangs When Printing to PDF from WordPerfect.

Seems Adobe Acrobat 9.51 is hanging when attempting to do a conversion to PDF by printing to PDF from WordPerfect (using X3/X5).  Problem is it also hangs the rest of the PC.  Have to attempt to kill the process (though it is so slow I end up having to restart the PC).  Anybody have any thoughts on this.  Attempted to do a repair (no help), removed the program and reinstalled (also no help).  Thought maybe another process was killing this but turned off all startup items.  Maybe I missed some uninstall items I need to manually remove?  Any help would be appreciated.

Knowing the OS would be helpful as it may be a factor.
If the OS is Windows 7 Acrobat 9.x will not provide full functionality.
Regardless, WP file format(s) are not compatible / supported by Acrobat PDFMaker.
Corel uses its own publish to PDF process rather than anything Adobe.
With Acrobat installed you can print to the Adobe PDF virtual printer.
If you are not doing a File - Print and selecting the Adobe PDF printer then you are using a WP rather than an Adobe process provided by Acrobat.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard v 8 works, but print-to-PDF does not

I've been trying to migrate my main computer usage from an XP desktop to a Windows 7 laptop. I've had Acrobat Standard v 8 on both computers for years but have rarely used the laptop. (I mostly used the laptop as a dumb terminal to reach through the internet to my desktop.) Now I'm determined to make the laptop into my daily WORKING computer.
I see that Acrobat Standard works on the laptop (opens files, deletes pages, etc.) but I cannot print anything to PDF. When I try to print (from Notepad, Word, or anything) the "Adobe PDF" printer shows as my default printer. But nothing happens. It doesn't ask for a filename and the printer window (?) shows error on printing.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat Standard 8 in January 2013 when it had stopped working altogether (opening a PDF would flash open then close/crash) which was probably caused by "a friend" installing an unlicensed (or wrongly licensed) version of Microsoft Office 2010. I uninstalled all of that mush and put a new version of Office on (2013, licensed). I don't recall if the print-to-PDF has worked since; but I suspect not.
Does anyone know how to fix it?
I'm afraid to uninstall and reinstall the whole Acrobat again. Someone once told me that you can only re-activate your license so many times and then one day it won't reactivate. And since my version is so old and has been reinstalled after virus cleanups (reformatting system disks), I don't know if Tech Support will fix that sort of activation problem. That last thing I want to do is use new software, or have to go to a non-Adobe PDF editor when I already have software paid for. And yes, I have the original Acrobat Standard v 8 CDs.

    1. I don't care about the button in Word; just trying to get a PRINT-TO-PDF function going.
    2. The CD installed 8.0.0 even though I have 8.1.4 on my other computer (the XP desktop I'm trying to make obsolete). I will try to find upgrade downloads somewhere.
    3. I tried to use the original CD and do a "Repair" option (not remove nor install). It went through the motions and would come up with an error. So I googled and found the article titled "Error "The file AdobePDF.dll is needed" | CS3 | 64-bit Windows" (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-file-adobepdf-dll-needed.html) and applied the directions for Windows 7 64-bit version (which my laptop is), but the fix didn't work.
Still researching, and #2 above looks like the best next course of action.

  • HP LaserJet 4MV no longer prints from PDF on MacBook Air

Yes, I still use my Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4MV and with my MacBook Air with which I have been printing from Preview, Safari screen, email, AND from PDF's since I downloaded a patch from online 1-1/2 years ago.  Inexplicably the HP LaserJet 4MV no longer prints from any Adobe PDF in any program.  I can print any other document except PDF still.  I can print PDF's on my other printers including a Brother.  I have uninstalled and redownloaded Adobe Reader.  It is a mystery.
Any suggestions?  Did I accidentally download some update (I try to never download Adobe updates) possibly that 'cancelled out' my ability to print on my HP Laserjet 4 MV?   Any ideas would help. Thank you so much.

  • Can No Longer Print to PDF: No File Created

    Greetings, All,
(I had this problem months ago too, but it went awayApple Update?)
Recently I did something stupid on my Mac (still new to Mac from Windows) and I had to reinstall OS X (Install and Archive). After Installing OS X 10.5.3, I updated back to 10.5.6. Then I reinstalled CS4 Master Collection and installed the updates for that. This was a couple weeks ago.
I seldom need to print anything, but when I do, I print them to PDF. Now, when I do a command-P in any application (Safari, TextEdit, Mail.app, etc), nothing happens. Acrobat creates no file. I am using the Adobe PDF 9.0 driver. There is a work around: In the lower-left hand corner of the print dialog box, I can click on PDF > Save as PDF. I get prompted to name the file twice and then it does print. However, trying to research this issue, someone else mentioned the same thing and was told that's Apple's PDF printer. I want to print using Acrobat 9.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you for any help!
    Keith

Wow! At least it's not just me!
I've been trying to do various tests, and now my results are a bit different:
    Going off Candace's notes:
    1) Doesn't work for me. This is what I used to do and want to do again: create a PDF from any application by clicking Print (eg, the Print link on web page) or pressing command-P. No file is created now.
    2) I didn't even know this option existed. It worked for me, but I don't want to print my documents there. I want to be prompted for a name and folder of my choosing in the dialog box.
    3) Oddly, this morning after reading Candace's response, I now only get prompted with one dialog box, not two. Again, I don't want to do this. I want it to work as before where after invoking Print I would be offered a dialog box asking me what to name the file and in which folder to create it.
Thanks, Candace! I appreciate your post!

  • Acrobat 9.5.1 Crashing when printing secure pdf files

Had this problem with all versions of 9.0 or later, updated in hopes of it fixing the problem. Acrobat just stops working when I try to print secure files. They work fine on machines with older versions of acrobat or reader though. I've tried going to Preferences/General to turn of Certified mode but it's enabled Yes is greyed out and does not allow me to change it.

It will start to send pages to the printer, showing the Progress bar but then it will Stop Working.

  • Can no longer print a PDF on Macbook Air - latest OS version

I had a message recently stating that I the HDD on the Mac was getting close to full, so moved some programs (including Acrobat Professional 11.0.10) and since then, I can't print any files using Acrobat. MS Office files print fine, so don't think it's a computer wide issue. Was there some other files that needed to be transferred to the external drive? Acrobat seems to open happily from the external drive. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Kaye

  • Acrobat crashed when try to a print the PDF opened through browser

    Hi,
I have Acobat pro and reader installed on my machine.
I have set the properties - Open pdf in browser. So, all the PDFs are opening in browser uses Acrobat not the reader.
And this is way I want. It was woking fine on Windows XP.
After Windows 7 upgrade, Print option on acrobat (pdf opened in browser), makes browser crashed. Printing window (pop up) appears but looks it is hanged. No OK, cancel buttons appears.
If I uncheck the acrobat properties - Open pdf in browser, then it works fine. But my other applications which need acrobat in the browser start crashing.
Is there any property/setting which is restricting print dialog box/ making browser not to respond?
    Please advise.

Yes, I updated Acrobat through update option last week.
    Acrobat 9.5.2
    Windows 7 64 bit OS
    Adobe Reader XI
    Browser IE 10
In print window couple of fields which get drop down automatically have blank values.
Please let me know if you need more information.
Arcobat shows proper print window (pop up) if I uncheck the checkbox - Open pdf in browser. And then I open pdf in acrobat and try to print it.

  • I downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro, but now can't print any .pdf.

Have Window 8. I downloaded Acrobat Pro from Kivuto, deleted it at suggestion of Adobe help chat, and downloaded it again last night. I have tried multiple .pdf documents on both printers. My wife logged into her work computer through Citrix and used Acrobat Pro from the high school where she works, and still can't print. Any ideas?

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 and IE7 - inability to print to PDF

Anyone know why I can no longer use Print to Adobe PDF from a webpage using IE7?

What OS are you running? Do you see the PDFMaker toolbar?

  • As of yesterday, I can no longer print ANY pdf's.

Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit. Have had adobe reader on for almost a year. Can print everything else. Nothing shows up in the que (tried 2 diff printers and a bullzip pdf printer), R&R adobe XI, performed update. No windows updates were performed. Scanned for viruses ? parasites - system clean, even looked for root kit -none. Just stopped working today (tried rebooting too)

First of all, there is no need to put the entire text of your post into the title of your thread.
Next, does your daughter have an iPhone? Do her friends have iPhones? If the answer to both questions is "yes", then it is possible she is not texting them, but using iMessage to communicate with them. iMessages will not show up in the texting traffic on a line as they are not texts, but messages sent thru Apple's servers.
For all "texts" to show up in the texting activity of an iPhone, you must disable iMessage on the device. Any messages sent as iMessages(blue bubbles around the text) on an iPhone will not show up in any texting activity.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 not printing to PDF

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard. It is no longer printing to PDF. It was working for about 4 months and suddenly stopped. I have tried all the updates that they recommend on the website but they are not working. Can anyone help?

    Good day astryian,
Acrobat 9's development was completed while IE8 was still in beta.  The PDFMaker Add-in from Acrobat 9 was never designed for use with IE9.  You may want to try printing to the Adobe PDF printer from IE9 instead.  If the results you receive contain either missing or garbled text, please refer to the following knowledgebase document: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/896/cpsid_89623.html

    Dear user,
I would like you to first check your Print Quality parameter from 'Properties'->'Layout'->'Advanced'->'Graphic'->'Print Quality'. You must have more dpis to get better output. Also check the resolution of Transparency Flattener preset from 'Advanced'->'Output'->'Transparency Flattener'.
If possible, Can you please forward us the original and output  PDF at [email protected]
Looking forward to resolve your issue.
