Acrobat 8 Professional: reinstalling PDF printer

I've been having trouble using "Save as PDF" in Framemaker 8 on my newly installed Windows 7/64 system.
Something somewhere told me to delete the Adobe PDF printer and run a rebuild.
I'm now unable to recreate a working instance of Adobe PDF printer, but I cannot set it up properly.
I'm able to Create a printer called "Adobe PDF"
In Printer Properties, Ports Tab, I can add a Port but only have 2 choices: Local Port and Standard TCP/IP.  If I select new Port Type, it asks for the printer INF information. This is where it is: "c:\apps\adobe\cs3 web premium\acrobat 8.0\acrobat\xtras\adobepdf\adobepdf.inf". However, the clicking OK produces 3 instances of "An error occurred installing port monitor 'Adobe PDF Port'. Please contact the manufacturer for assistance.
Any ideas how to reinstall the Adobe PDF printer?
Thanks in advance.

You will simply have to do the updates of AA8. I think it was version 8.1 for XP. I have no idea if it will work with Win7 X64 or not. The updates or under the help menu. If you cannot get there, go to the Adobe downloads>updates (upper right of screen) and find the Win Acrobat updates. You need to install them in order after the version you have. If you don't know about updates, then you likely have 8.0.

  • [Acrobat 8.x] PDF Printer not working

    Hi there,
I just migrated from Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7. After having installed Acrobat (as part of CS3), I quickly came across the following nasty problem. The PDF Printer worked about once. After that, it became defunct. When starting a print job with PDF Printer, the entire application hangs. For some reason, there is considerable hard drive activity after that, but the application that has issued the print command does not recover (I waited for several minutes).
I have tried the following solution:
    (1) Auto-Update updated my Acrobat version to 8.1.3
    (2) "Repair Acrobat Installation" from Acrobat Help Menu
    (3) Manually reinstalled PDF Printer
    (4) Removed all PDF Ports and recovered via "Repair Acrobat Installation"
=> no effect, the problem remains.
I would be very greatful for any suggestions. This problem is driving me nuts! The PDF printer is an important component that just has to work.

    Thanks for the input!
The upgrade to 8.1.6 did solve the problem. Acrobat still works poorly, but at least the PDF Maker works quite fine.
Nevertheless, it's really too bad that Adobe requires you to purchase a full (and considerably expensive) upgrade for Win7 support. Adobe 8 is not that old so that it would require updating.

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.4 - Printing in color won't work

    Hello,
So what I've done so far:
    Checked the printer's settings
Checked the Color management features of Adobe Acrobat and made sure they are set to color.
Every setting is set to color that I could find.
Adobe Acrobat Professional is not printing in color, other Windows applications are. I checked the printer's default options as well as prior to printing, the "current" settings.  The PDF has color.  Any ideas why the pdf won't print in color?
Thanks for all and any replies.

  • Acrobat 9's PDF Printer prints pages individually (W7x64)

    Hello,
I have a user that tries to print a document using Acrobat 9's PDF Printer. Despite specifying to print the whole document, the printer prompts a save location for each page of the document. This is done from Excel 2010 Pro Plus with the OS Windows 7 Enterprise x64 edition.
So basically, what happens is that the printer makes a file for each page of the document.

    What version of Acrobat 9?

  • Acrobat Help | Basic PDF printing tasks

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/basic-pdf-printing-tasks.html

The idea of re-sorting multiple pages so they appear in the correct order when printed on saddle-stitched or stapled pager is called imposition. Neither Adobe Reader nor Adobe Acrobat will do it for you automatically.
Often if your printer has double-sided capability the manufacturer's driver software will have an option that handles imposition for you. If so it can be accessed through the Advanced button on the print dialog and that would work in both Reader and Acrobat just the same.
Failing that, using Acrobat there are two options - either rearrange the pages by hand (drag and drop in the page navigation sidebar) or use a plugin such as Quite Imposing that will also handle things like margin adjustments and rotating pages to fit portrait<>landscape etc.

  • What is the Acrobat 7 Adobe PDF printer driver name?

I can no longer print to my "Adobe PDF" printer.
I have Acrobat 7.1.0 (as part of Creative Suite 2) on my small travel laptop system running Windows XP Professional, SP3.
Recently, if I try to print to a PDF file from Firefox, I get:
"an unexpected error has occurred" or "an unknown error has occurred while printing".
I went to the Adobe PDF printer itself and if I try to choose the properties, I get "The Adobe PDF Converter' is not installed on this computer. Then it asks me if I want to install the driver now.  If I say yes, it wants the driver name, which I don't know and don't see obvious candidates.   If I say no, and I see the properties for the PDF printer, it says the driver is "Adobe PDF Converter", but I guess the underlying driver file is missing.
I found a posting for how to manually reinstall the printer on Acrobat 10, but my directory structure is different and I don't have a file called pdf.inf, so I suspect the driver name is different in Acrobat 7.
I can still launch Acrobat 7 just fine, and have tried doing the repair from the help menu twice, and rebooted afterward.  No luck.
I didn't delete the Adobe PDF printer before the repair.  I was afraid to.
I could go back to the original CS2 disks, but then I'll lose all the updates I've downloaded and installed over the years.  I don't know if Adobe even has the updates for CS2 online anymore.
I suspect if I knew the name of the PDF printer driver in Acrobat 7, I may be able to fix it. Even if the file got deleted, I likely have it on an old backup.
Does anyone know the name of the ".inf" driver file for the Adobe PDF printer in Acrobat7 (CS2)?
If not, is there something else I can run from the setup files that will reinstall the PDF converter?
    Thanks.
    Cindy

I cannot confirm, but feel confident that Adobe has the updates available for CS2.
    Reinstall from the disks.
I just looked through my XP system running CS2; I cannot see an easy way to reinstall the Adobe PDF Printer, but it is already installed there.

  • How to reinstall PDF Printer in Print & Scan window on OSX 10.8.2

    Hello,
I was having issues where PDF's were not saving when I was printing them, so I thought that if I deleted the PDF printer from my list of printers and reinstalled it, my problem would be solved.  Now I can't figure out how to reinstall (add) the PDF printer back into this window.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat, and I have been searching the web for about an hour.
    I am running OSX 10.8.2
I have Adobe Creative Cloud installed
I am on an iMac 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7
    32 GB of RAM
Thanks for any help you have.

  • Acrobat X pro pdf printer missing/ puzzle re forum fixes

Licensed Acrobat X pro installed; but no pdf printer.
    Attempted workaround
    <http://blogs.adobe.com/dmcmahon/2012/06/04/acrobat-pdf-printer-missing-after-installation- on-windows-64-bit/>
Solution 1 repair --did not work
Solution 2 --Uninstall and reinstall: I installed as part of CS5.5...do I have to unistall entire or just Acrobat?
Solution 3:  I am copying below with notes as to what didn't show up
    Manually install the PDF Printer
Click Start >  Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    Select Add a printer
    Select Add a local printer
Check Use an existing port and select Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF) from the drop down.  Click Next
[No such file on 'existing port.' attempted using NITRO pdf which came with this new lenovo machine [but never availbale and not installed --jst recommended, although this file exists  < NitroPDF Port: (local port) > which I attempt]
    Click the Have Disk… button
    Click the Browse… button
    Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF
Select AdobePDF.inf from the list if using Acrobat Pro, or AdobePDFstd.inf if using Acrobat Std, then click the OK button
    [this files exists]
You will see many Adobe PDF Converters in the list, however count six down from the top and click Next (you may need to try this numerous times to find the correct Converter from the list that works with your version of Windows)
    [Attempted six down--no dice].
Name your printer, e.g. Adobe PDF
Follow the rest of the prompts and your PDF printer should now be installed correctly
If you are later prompted for the ADPDF9.PPD file, it can be found in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\<OS version> folders.
[Once I hit 'test' print it states  < Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrotray.exe'.
BUT i'm not using Acrobat 11.0!
    Any ideas, o wise ones?
    best,
    skylar1

    Hello All,
    I just figured this out--
I installed updates in the Help tab, and the files required, including pdf printer were installed.
    Works!
I realize that this is a gen behind in software but I am running legacy large format printers and the newest is not the best in this application.
    Hope this helps....

  • Acrobat X Pro - pdf printer

    hi
I install on my mac (leopard 10.5.8) Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
but i haven't any pdf printer in Preferences->Printer
how I print with acrobat pdf printer as the same on Acrobat 9 Professional?

The proper method to set up is in the original Document.
I've just tested this out. It use to be that you could use page setup with Acrobat.
Since Acrobat 9 the setup menu has been rendered useless, then in Acrobat X it was totally removed.
I created a test Pdf in Word 2011. I  setup for a 4by6"  Card (like you print Recipes on).
Then I went to Print Menu and choose PDF > Adobe PDF. Then when I chose location and saved file. Acrobat opened up and the PDF was 4by6" Card format.
Whatever  WordProcessor you use set page set up there for A4 create your Document choose adobe PDF, under the PDF button in the Print menu. save your PDF document.
When you open your PDF it will be in the proper format.

  • Reinstall PDF Print Driver in Mac OS X 10.6.2

I just noticed that my PDF print function no longer works. I believe it happened after I installed Snow Leopard. I reset all my printers and now I need to reinstall it. How do I go about doing that? I have Adobe CS4 which includes Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.
    Thanks,
    Grant

I am also having the same problem here.  We recently upgraded from CS 3 to CS 5.5 and now we cannot print to pdf anymore.  We are a small printshop and exporting to PDF is fine when we are creating PDF proofs for customers, however, when printing the jobs on our press you need a PDF with separations and the only way to print color separations is through the "Print to PDF" option.  You do not have the separations option when exporting to PDF.  Is there a different way of selecting separations now or are we just screwed?  Seems like Adobe really dropped the ball on this one and I hope they come up with a fix for this VERY SOON!  Right now this problem is costing us lots of money.

  • Acrobat 8 - Adobe PDF Printer hanging when printing

    Hi
I have an installation of Adobe CS3 Design Standard on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. When attempting to use the 'Adobe PDF' printer from an Adobe application, i.e. Illustrator, Photoshop, the application freezes and the PDF printer does not proceed to convert the document. The job is in the print spooler, however this either sits there with 'error', or 'spooling'.
This behaviour does not occur when using another application such as Microsoft Word.
When looking at the printer preferences of the printer, the tab appears to be malformed and incomplete.  (see screenshot)
There are no options under the 'Adobe PDF Folder' dropdown, apart from LPT1.
I have tried reinstalling Acrobat from the CS3 DVD, after deleting the printer and driver, however this does not appear to solve the problem.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
    Thanks, Luke.

Thanks for this, it solved the problem!
It appears that despite the updater saying there weren't any updates, there clearly were. I'm guessing they've turned off the update servers as it's such an old product.
For the record, I installed 8.1 and 8.1.1 all the way to 8.1.7 individually.
    Thanks again.
    Luke.

  • Acrobat X update - .pdf printer missing afterwards

I get notified of an update but every time I try to install the .pdf printer is missing afterwards. The only way I can get it back is to uninstall Acrobat and reinstall from original CD, but then I cannot update it

Version 10.0.0 – I can’t update it because the .pdf printer (which I use a lot) gets removed so I have to go back to the CD which is version 10.0.0. I wonder if I can download a newer version if Acrobat X that already has the updates included – maybe that would help.
