Acrobat error when opening pdf email attachments

I have a user who has the latest version of Adobe Acrobat and Reader installed on his PC running Windows 7 Pro SP1 which is up to date on patches.
He was unable to open any pdf documents attached to email and was getting an error from Acrobat saying it couldn't open them. I changed the default file association for .pdf file from Acrobat to Reader and now he can open most pdf attachments. The only ones he is having a problem with are ones that come from his bank in what he was told by his banker are secure emails.
What happens when he clicks on the pdf attachment in the emails from his bank is that he gets a popup with Adobe Acrobat in the title bar of the popup and the message that says "Cannot use Adobe Reader to view PDF in your web browser. Reader will now exit. Please exit your browser and try again." The buttons to click on are OK and Cancel. If he clicks OK, the popup goes away and the pdf then opens in Reader.
So while he can view the pdf, he gets the annoying popup that he has to click through. Is there any way to get rid of that error message popup so when he clicks on the pdf in the secure emails, that it just opens without error like the pdf's do from non-secure emails?

  • Can't open PDF email attachments from mail app. (iOS7, iPad2)

Since upgrading to iOS7 I cannot open PDF email attachments from the "Mail" app. The attachment appears as a "tap to download" icon, after downloading it appears as an image of the first page of the PDF. An extended press of the PDF image results in "save image" and "copy" options, but no "open in" option.
I have tried closing and re-opening mail, restarting the iPad, several different attachments. Still no "Open in" option.
    Any help with this?

I work in a support organization and we've seen variations of this issue develop on various iphones and ipads with ios7.  Oddly, not everyone is experiencing this, just some people.
In my own case, I simply downloaded Acrobat Reader for free and can read the things fine.
We use an exchange activesync email server and when each email comes in it indicates at the very bottom that it has been downloaded as plain text and to click to download the entire message.  I've tried clicking to download and not clicking and I can read the PDF either way.
In my own case I can view PDF files and/or also save them by pressing and holding the icon of the PDF in the email.
The other thing one of our end users noticed: if she emailed the PDF directly to her iPhone5 and iPad it would not be readable but if she forwarded it to her offsite Yahoo account and then forward to her corporate email it would open.
I think there's definetely something going on with the formatting of the PDF (was it created by a true Adobe PDF distiller or one of the many clones?), what email application attached it? (Outlook, Eudora, IOS Mail, etc) and how many PDF reading apps are on your IOS devices?
For instance I have the default PDF reader, iBooks, Kindle, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and there may be others that I don't even know has PDF capability.   Only Apple probably has a good idea of how many apps utilize this.

  • Adobe Acrobat hangs when opening PDFs even after reinstall

    Hello,
I have 2 new Dell systems that are having issues with Adobe Acrobat.  When opening PDFs, either from an email attachement or file from our server, there is a brief hang that lasts 10-15 seconds, during which Acrobat is unresponsive however the workstation continues to respond.  I've since uninstalled/reinstalled, still no luck.  I've also run updates. Problem unresolved.
    Any ideas

One of our users is having a similar issue with Adobe Reader 9.2 hanging.  Adobe Reader will eventually open after about 5 seconds.  I've found a work around where if I leave a .pdf document open, any other .pdf I click will open up fine (but a .pdf needs to be left open in Adobe Reader).  This is happening only with one user.  Some of the things I've tried that have not worked: repairing, uninstalling/reinstalling, deleting temp files, opening the file with a different account/profile, downgrading to Adobe Reader 8.1.3.  Anyone have any ideas?  This is only happening to one user at my company.  I've searched the forums here and it looks like other people are having similar issues but there's really not a solution to this.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

  • Opening PDF Email Attachments

My PDF email attachments open in Microsoft Word and can't be read. How can I open PDF attachments in Adobe without first having to do a 'Save As'? I have Adobe on my laptop.

The problem is a file association.
If you are using Verizon's webmail then you need to fix the file association in your web browser.
If you are using an email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc.) you need to fix the file association in your computer (varies as to how based on OS and client).

  • Adobe 2.0 Can't Open PDF Email Attachments

Hi. I am using WM5 on an HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125). I installed Adobe 2.0 for viewing PDF's and it works great. The only problem I have is that I get an error every time I try to view a pdf that is an email attachment.
When I open an email with a pdf attachment, I tap the attachment and Adobe 2.0 starts up. I then get the following errors:
"The file is damaged, but is being repaired"
"There was an errror opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."
If I try to save the pdf attachment and then view it I get the same two errors listed above.
If I copy the pfd attachment from my PC to the device I can open it, but I suspect that is because some type of file conversion has taken place.
Should I be able to view pdf attachments on my device using adobe 2.0 or will the pdf attachments always need some type of coverting before I can view them on my device?
Adobe 2.0 works great, but so far I am unable to view pfd email attachments.
    Thanks for the help.

    >>> The .pdf must be transferred from a PC into the mobile device folder and conversion must take place in order to view the file on the mobile device. <<
    There are likely a number of ways which will render pdf's non viewable on ppcs... some thoughts on this specific issue;
The activesync "plugin" is a "tagger" subject to failure... if the file can't be directly opened from the file menu of ppc reader, it is likely another problem.
ppc reader is acrobat 5... most pdf's are created with "backward compatibility" but it's also possible that the original generator specified acrobat 6 or 7
The "file associations" are often wrong with respect to pdf files... attachments apparently have another level of file association, so, before making any conclusion, save the file to the "My Documents" folder, start reader and open the file using the ppc reader's file menu.
    >>> it would be nice if Adobe and Microsoft could put their heads together to straighten this out. <<
Remember something said long ago about "when pigs fly" ;-) ...we are on our own as there is zero evidence that anyone from adobe even reads these posts, and then you have to couple that with the fact that reader users are not adobe's customers... they have almost zero incentive to address ppc reader problems... wanna do something about it... get a major full acrobat user to complain to adobe that their pdfs are not really ppc readable.

  • Can't Open PDF Email Attachments

I have a Treo 650 with ATT/Cingular service. I am unable to open PDF attachments to email (use Versamail and a POP3 server). I can see the attachments, when I click on the message "Do you want to accept (file name)... I reply "Yes" and receive an error message "Failed to receive beamed document." When I hit choice "OK" I get this error message "Error: Database: corrupt database 0x0209". I have unistalled and re-installed Adobe Reader 3.05 for Palm OS from both my Treo 650 and my laptop several times and I still get the message.
What is really weird is that if I Hot Sync an Acrobat Reader PDF file from my laptop to my Treo 650 I CAN view the PDF - it is only getting them from email to open that is the issue. I can open other types of file attachments from email (WORD, Excel, ...) Any ideas? ATT could not help.

The files aren't corrupt. The problem is that Adobe Reader for Palm is a two part system. The actual Palm Reader is a relatively small program that is designed to work on versions of the Palm that don't have memory cards, and therefore can only handle files in the special Palm database format.
The general philosophy is that, the small screen and possibly the small memory (on some Palms) is not appropriate to the presentation of print images, therefore the documents are reflowed and displayed using the Palm's native fonts.
Reflowing requires that the PDF file be marked up with the logical structure of the document, not just the layout. That is a recent feature (tagging), done to allow reading by devices like screen readers for the blind, and most documents don't have it done at source, so the part of the reader than runs on Windows usually has to attempt to do this. Doing it is complex, because it involves making inferences about the intent of the layout.
Also, to reduce the load on the Palm part of the code, all images are converted to bitmaps.
Finally, as noted above, many Palms at the time the software was written, many Palms did not have memory cards and therefore could only handle files in PDB format, so the Windows part of the code wraps the file up as a PDB when you properly hot synch it. That involves adding to the file, it is not just a renaming operation.
It could be argued that processing power, memory, and the ubiquity of memory cards, now mean that vector graphics could be used directly and the files no longer need a PDB wrapper. The arguments for tagging still hold, though, although some people might prefer to scroll a 150x150 window. Adobe do not seem to have worked on this software for many years.
I believe it is possible to use third party tools to recover the .PDF.PDB and then successfully email that, but on receiving it, you must put it in a Palm applications directory, not in a directory for normal files.

  • Acrobat can not open pdf email attachment

Acrobat 8 Professional.<br /><br />A user gets this error message when he tries to open up a pdf email attachment:<br /><br />"Acrobat could not open <File Name> because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."<br /><br />I can open up the attachment without any issues.<br /><br />Anybody else have this issue?

Yes, Ron Green here at the NYS Insurance Department. I now have two clients and counting that have somewhat of an identical problem.
Client #1 has Adobe 8 Professional installed on his pc which is running Widnows XP Professsional. Files are scanned using a XEROX MFP network scanner and client is able to open those scanned documents within adobe and then saves them to a network share. Problem arises whenever he attempts to attach the saved document to another application. Once he attempts viewing the scanned document at that point Adobe blows up with the same error message stating the file is corrupt.
Client #2 has Adobe 9 Reader but is still able to follow the same network scanning scenario aforementioned but encounters the exact same problem when attempting to attach the scanned PDF documents.
Is there any type of fix out there for this???

  • Scanning causes error when opening PDF

Every time I scan or print with my HP Officejet 5610v, I can then no longer open a pdf by finding a file in the finder.
When I try I get the following error:
The document “iPhone intro.pdf” could not be opened. Acrobat cannot open files in the “Adobe PDF document” format.
I can still open pdf doc by opening Acrobat and clicking open and then find the file but that is a pain.
I have deleted my printer/scanner software and re-installed a new driver and tried updating my acrobat but to no avail.
    Anyone have any other thoughts?
    Thanks for the help.

  • Why can I not open PDF email attachments?

Normally on my iPhone I'm able to simply click on the PDF attachment at the bottom of an email and it opens for me to read but I just got an iPad and it doesn't seem to do that. When I click attachments in my email nothing happens.  But for instance when I try to open attachments I have saved in Dropbox they open perfectly fine.

Well something has changed since IOS came out. I can't open email attachments anymore in all apps.
Up until say 3 weeks ago I would tap on an email attachment (a PDF) and a menu of apps would appear. Normally I would choose Goodreader or iBooks to open the PDF. No problems. My iPad2 would switch to the app and open the PDF.
Now that IOS 6 is out when you touch the email attachment icons appear. Goodreader and iBook show up. But when i touch either one of these icons nothing happens. It won't switch to the app and open the PDF anymore.
Two other things. I do have other apps that appear such as PDFSplicer. If i choose it the iPad2 switches to that app and opens the PDF. It's only Goodreader and iBook that won't work anymore.
second, I went to my local Apple store and talked to the guys at the genius bar. I demonstrated the problem to them. They said it looks like a bug and suggested I send a bug report to apple. Never heard back from them.
    Any ideas?

  • Error when opening PDF files from SAP.

    Hi Gurus
I have posted this question in ABAP Development section also. Please read the below text.
We are having a strange intermittent problem with Adobe Reader. When we try to open PDF files from SAP Frontend we get an error pop-up. The pop-up does not have any text. The title of the pop-up has "Adobe Reader". There is a blue question mark and an OK button.
This issue occurs few times a day in Windows Vista.
This issue does not occur in Windows XP.
Since past few weeks, we have been trying to find some error/warning/atleast some text in log files of SAP, OS, Adobe Reader, Registry entries, Event Viewer. So far, we have not found anything.
SAP is not able to help as this issue occurs intermittently and said when they tried, the issue did not occur. They made two attempts and in each attempt they tried 10 times to reproduce the issue. This issue occurs intermittently.
    Environment
    SAP R/3 4.7 EE SAP_Basis 620 Support Package 61
    Windows Vista Enterprise
Adobe Reader 9.0 and Adobe Reader 9.1 (tried with both versions)
SAPGUI 710 Patch 12 (latest patch). It also occured in Patch 11.
    Please suggest
    Thank you
    Pavan

Now I got to capture the screenshot, however not able to attach/upload here but it says:
    'Reading Untagged Documents'
lets say i tried to open 6 page document then it said:
'This 6-page document is untagged and must be prepared for reading. While the document is being
analyzed, your assistive technology will not be able to interact with this application. '
then it asked for Reading options
then a checkbox for to confirm 'Always use the settings from the Reading Preferences (Do not show this dialog again)
    then 'OK/START' and 'cancel' buttons
It seems, this is the problem with Adobe w.r.t Vista.
    thanks

Can you open that PDF in a text editor, then copy and paste the first two or three lines here in the forum?
