Acrobat Pro DC PDF Portfolio Edit

Have upgraded to Pro DC from 10X - some great new features and some remind me of Windows 8 type going backwards functionality. Having trouble editing the sequence of documents in a Portfolio. Seems there is a rather elaborate ordering systems were you select size, name etc and then you select the method you want.In 10X you would just click "edit" and you could select and drag the files into any order you wanted. I cannot find this in Pro DC - it seems to want to just offer you a preset ordering system all of which do not seem to allow you to take say 10 files and put them in any random order you want. Anyone know how to manage this?

Have been testing this and it is proving to be a very convoluted design. I really appreciate your help so I am merely advising what it happening - though I suspect you well know. To create a sequence using numbers you need to go 1 1.1 1.2, 2 2.1, 3.1 etc 1 - 20 no good. In addition to that you have to  remember to select sort by the field you have created as well as sort order and then make sure only it is selected. Adobe seem to have taken something a five year old could understand in 10x and turned it into a series of totally unnecessary and complicated steps and procedures.

  • Change order in Acrobat Pro XI pdf portfolio

I can't seem to change the order of my portfolio in Acrobat Pro XI.  My portfolio layout is Click-Through.  When I drag an item on the mini-navigator bar at the bottom and move to a new spot and let go when I have the vertical insertion line, the item doesn't move and bounces back to original spot.  Can anyone help me, please!

I'm having the same issue. Once files are in the portfolio, Acrobat XI will not allow me to click and drag them to a different order. I despise Acrobat XI.

  • Problems with opening Acrobat Pro 9 PDF files

Hi. We use Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 to convert our product documentation Word files into PDFs. During the last weeks our customers report more and more problems with opening these files. We usually deliver those on a DVD with Acrobat Reader 5 or another older version. (Please don't ask me why we're still on these old versions!) Did anyone experience similar problems with Acrobat Pro 9 PDF files and older versions of the Acrobat Reader? Does Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 work smoothly with the newest Acrobat Reader 9.1 download?
Please post your comments. Thx a lot - Kay

I would recommend distributing higher version of Reader as version 5 is just too old but looks like you can't go there.
Acrobat 9 PDFMaker and Adobe PDF printers by default create PDF 1.5 compaible files. PDF 1.5 compatible files can be opened only in Acrobat 6 and above. That's probably the reason why your customers can't see the contents.
What you can do is to change your conversion settings to produce PDF 1.4 compatible files:
    - In Word, select Acrobat tab or Adobe PDF menu (depending on your version of Word), select Settings
    - Select "advanced settings" in the dialog that comes up
    - Choose compatibility as "Acrobat 5", PDF 1.4
IF you print to Adobe PDF printer, you'll find a similar setting in the print dialog.

    Hi Bruno ,
Could you please verify the Acrobat version you are using is the latest Acrobat DC or some older version ?
Does this happen with any particular PDF file or all the documents ?
If you haven' tried repairing your Acrobat ,please try the same and see if that helps .
For repairing Acrobat Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help> Repair Acrobat Installation .
If that does not work you could probably uninstall the software and try downloading it again and see if that fixes the issue .
Let us know how it goes .
    Regards

  • Acrobat Pro: Create PDF Form Export so it's not editable User fills out and info is emailed back to me

I have zero experience with PDF forms. A client needs to have the email addresses changed in an older PDF form, so I've opened it in Acrobat Pro, changed the existing email addresses and am now stuck. How do I save it so it's not editable by the end-user? Everything I've tried (Distribution via email, flattening, security) have not worked; either the form fields get stripped out or I receive nothing via email and I can still open the distributed form and edit the fields.
I need it so the end-user will view the form in their browser
    Fill out the fields
Click submit and the info is sent back to me via email.
If they download the PDF they can NOT edit it.
    Thanks!
    Tim

Open the PDF and do the following:  File> Save As> Reader Extended PDF> Enable Additional Features

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro: Create PDF Portfolio not previewing Word docs

    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement:
Word documents won't preview on an Adobe PDF Portfolio, while other Office documents (Excel, PowerPoint, etc) will. It only shows a Word icon on the preview and you have to double-click the file to open it on actual word. This is not the way Acrobat is supposed to behave.
NOTE: Adobe Acrobat 10.1.2 (latest version) and Office 2010 Suite w/ SP1 installed.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Create a PDF Portfolio
    2. Add Word (.doc, .docx) files to the Portfolio
    3. Click on Preview and you will see a Word icon instead of a thumbnail preview.
    Results:
You will see a word icon
    Expected results:
A thumbnail preview of the document like it happens with Excel, PowerPoint, etc...
Can you guys reproduce this error? What do you think?

Here is what I am talking about...
Those files should be previewed and not just display a thumbnail with a Word icon.

  • Why does my Acrobat Pro 9 PDF print driver either lock up or become confused as to where it should store a file when printing a document from within the Firefox browser?

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 pdf optimizer failure..

We have a problem optimizing files in Acrobat Pro 9.
When we try to optimize (Advance > PDF Optimize) the file(s) Acrobat either chrashes, or just say "an error was encountered while processing images".
It is rather large files we have, from 50Mb to 112Mb and up to 17000 pages.
We cant split them into smaller files.
I can´t find anythin in the error log.
This happends on at least 4 computers, whit diffrent settings and hardware.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

You've likely exceeded your computers' capacity to process the necessary commands specified in the Optimizer settings chosen.
During optimization, a temp file will be created that is approximately the same size as the file being processed. The computer must be able to handle the additional load of each page being analyzed and processed. Text is not so bad, but layered images can be murder on memory.
There are some cases when an optimized pdf might actually end up being a larger file size than the original. Sometimes a simple Save As can dramatically reduce file size.
What is the goal of the optimization? How are you planning to distribute the document? Is there a reason for not providing multiple files instead of one large file? If you can give a few more details, some of the folks here might be able to give some helpful ideas.
FYI: A good article: "Understanding Acrobat's Optimizer" http://www.appligent.com/talkingpdf-understandingacrobatsoptimizer
It doesn't answer your question, but does provide good information about making optimizer choices

  • How to Embed Fonts and make Grayscale in Acrobat Pro 9 PDF

I supplied my printer with a PDF but he says that I need to "Embed The Fonts" in the PDF.
I made the original document in MS WORD and then I created the PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 but nowhere
along the way did I see anything that asked me to Embed The Fonts.
He also says that the type is in RGB but it needs to be in Grayscale.
When I created the PDF I didn't see any option along the way that gave me a choice between
    RGB and Grayscale.
Any ideas how to achieve these two effects while going from an MS WORD document to a PDF using
    Acrobat Pro 9 please?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry to bother you with my problem but I wondered if you could explain a little bit more about things I didn't understand.
1 - you said > On a Mac there is no advantage to using the Word plug-in.
Do you mean that I can type directly into Acrobat?
I thought that a document needed to be created in a word processor first before I could turn it into a PDF.
    Is that incorrect then?
2 - > Create the pdf file a print file menu gives you greater control.
I do apologize but I did not understand this statement either, could you please expand on it a little (to a non-techie.)
3 - > If you use the Press job option setting, the fonts will be embedded.
I can't find Press job option setting anywhere - I am using Acrobat pro 9 but there doesn't seem to be a menu with Press
anywhere, could you please expand on this a little bit too please.
4 - > If the pdf file has already been created it can be converted to greyscale using the Preflight or Convert Colors
    under Advanced -> Print Production.
I understood this part and I executed it according to your instructions so thank you for that.
Unfortunately I couldn't find out how to embed my fonts and my printer charged me $75 to do that
so I was pretty upset about not being able to understand that part of your explanation.
Since the printer was able to embed the fonts in a document that was already a PDF then it must be possible
to embed fonts after a PDF has been created, is that correct?
If that is correct then i don't know how I could not find how to do it because I looked everywhere for that
ability but I could not find how to do it.
I'd be very grateful for any further help you could give, thank you.

  • Missing data in Acrobat Pro XI PDF created from Microsoft Word (2010) doc

When I create an "Adobe PDF" from a Microsoft 2010 Word doc that contains mainly images and text boxes, about 50% of the text boxes do not appear in the PDF.  Also, some of the images (layered on top of each other) appear in a different order - the one on the bottom moves to the top.
How can I address this problem so that the PDF accurately reflects the Word document?
(I am using Acrobat Pro XI and Microsoft Office 2010)

Finally figured it out -- if I view the form directly in Adobe Reader (over our network), I see the confusing message about "Click 'Sign' to fill out..."
BUT, if I open the form within a web browser (IE, Firefox, etc.), I see the usual message: "Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form. Please print..."
It is doing what I expected; I just wasn't viewing it in the usual manner.  Users will be seeing this form via a web browser, so problem solved.

  • Annotation/tag numbers on fillable fields in Acrobat Pro 9.pdf

I would like to know how I can prevent the annotation or tag number from displaying and printing when I create editable fields on my document using Acrobat Pro 9.  This ruins my documents because these numerical annotations/tags display on top of any editable or fillable fields in my document.  I cannot seem to find an option or setting that will make sure that they never display on the document.

I think this is due to some sort of bug. A number of people have reported this but I've never been able to dupplicate it, even when I've had access to the same document. All I can suggest is trying (in this order):
    1. Apply the latest updates to Acrobat 9
    2. Repair Acrobat (Help > Repair Acrobat Installation
    3. If there's no difference, deactivate, uninstall, and reinstall Acrobat

  • Acrobat Pro X PDF previewing not working in Windows 7 64-bit

    Greetings, all,
The organization I work for recently purchased a volume license for Acrobat Pro X.  We uninstalled Adobe Reader from all of our machines and installed Acrobat Pro X on them.  After the move, the PDF preview handler stopped working.  People commonly link to the URL below, but it has not worked for us.  It appears it only works for the PDF preview handler packaged with Adobe Reader, not the one packaged with Acrobat Pro.
    http://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/index.html
Users are unable to preview PDFs in Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.  When attempting to preview in Windows Explorer, the following appears:
       This file can't be previewed.
What can we do to get the preview handler working in Windows Explorer (Windows 7 64-bit) and Office Outlook 2007?
    Thanks in advance!

OK. Then do you mean the thumbnails in Windows Explorer? I don't have a solution for that, but there have been several posts about the issue.
Well, thumbnails in Explorer don't work either, but we're not concerned about it.  The preview pane is what we're worried about.  There is a button in the top-right that turns the pane on.  Previewing in Outlook does not work either.
