Acrobat Pro not opening PDF files when I double click on them- It only works if I bring up the program-.

I've installed a trial version of Acrobat XI Pro. It will open the file if I hit control->open with->Acrobat Pro Luis: but if I double click on the document it only brings up the Acrobat XI Pro window with the "Open a Recent File", I've changed the "Open With" option on "Get Info" and still can't open the PDF files with a double click. Can anyone help me out? Thanks! LAGA

When I double click the file after Acrobat is opened nothing happens...
The PDF file only opens if I start the acrobat program then look for the PDF file or any PDF Files and then I am able to open them.

Thanks for answering ... Long answer sorry ... recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7. With XP I could create PDFs with/for any document I created ... I think the XP App was Acrobate Complete as well as I could print directly to a PDF file. In any case, I was always able to creat PDFs. Since upgrading to Windows 7, I lost my ability to create PDF files by conversion or by printing directly to PDF format. Therefore, I purchased the Adobe CreatePDF application from Adobe for about $100. However all Adobe CreatePDF files have a different screen icon and my Acrobate XI supplied with my new Windows 7 intsall does nor recognize the Adobe CreatePDF created files. I am guessing but I suspect the Adobe CreatePDF app is creating Postscript print files and not Windows compatible print files. I would like to tell Adobe about this Bug or failure, but it seems I am unable to contact Adobe directly and talk/chat with a human.

Bridge won't open NEF files, when you double click them, using PS CC

I have installed the latest version of PS CC and the Bridge, but when I go to my Nikon NEF files and double click to open them, they open up in some weird Window Photo Gallery, then I went to the preferences for bridge and reset the settings, and now when you double click on them nothing happens and they don't open at all. If you go to the Bridge Preferences>File Type Associations what does it list as the default?
If it doesn't list Adobe Photoshop CC you can use the Browse button to set it to
the Photoshop.exe in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC

Ai and eps will not open in Ai when you double click the file icon or drag onto to app icon

I get the following error messages when I double click the files icon or drag the file to the Ai app icon in the dock. The only way to open the files is via File > Open with in the app.
Photoshop and InDesign files open fine, it's just Illustrator.
The document “xyz.ai” could not be opened. Illustrator cannot open files in the “Adobe Illustrator Document” format.
The document “xyz.eps” could not be opened. Illustrator cannot open files in the “EPS File” format.
Running CS5.5 on Mavericks then Yosemite.

I believe the right order/way is to update the OS, then reinstall the applications. Was that how you did it?

Opening multiple file when just double clicking one

I have an issue with my OS, I think, lately when I double click to open a file it opens files that have been worked on in the past along with the file I'm opening, I have had to force quite or wait until I get an error that too many files are opening. It has been happening with acrobat Reader 8, so I'm not sure if this is an Adobe thing or and OS thing.

Try using [Onyx|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20070] to clear out your caches, and repair permissions as well. Also, reset your PRAM.

I am a student and teachers send files on a website and every time I try to open them, they download and then a bunch of jumbled letters appear. No one else in my class has this problem and I need the notes for tomorrow, what do I do?

Do you have this problem with all PDF's, or only some? If only some, can you link to an example?

Photoshop smart object layer will not open in ACR when I double click

I have a raw file opened up in photoshop, duplicated it, made them smart objects, when I click the smart object icon on the file, i get another copy of the file in photoshop, the file doesn't open up in acr, is there a setting i'm missing?

If you dupe that smart object layer you still have one smart object change one the other also changes. If you want two smart object for the save image so you cab have two versions of raw conversions you need to use menu Layers>smart Object>New smart object via copy..

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Did you try using Preview. If you control click on the PDF on your desktop you can use the "open with" option.

Safari not opening PDF files

I had Acrobat Pro on Windows laptop. Last weekend switched to MacBook Pro and upgraded to Acrobat X with help from Adobe Tech Personnel (and $215). Now, I can open and create PDFs from Acrobat, but my Safari browser doesn't open PDF files when I click on them the way my Firefox did. In fact, Safari just goes to black screen with little pinwheel in the middle spinning forever. How do I tell my browser to use the Adobe Acrobat X app? Thanks.

What is the version of your Mac OS? Is Safari running in 64 bit (check from Safari->Get Info)? If yes, change it to 32-bit and try again.

please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.

I have checked the internet plug in folder and there is no Adobe Acrobat Reader in it.
I have Adobe Acrobat reader in my Application folder.
