Acrobat Pro XI isn't detecting a scanner

I'm running Adobe Acrobat Pro XI on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 machine.  When I go to File, Create, PDF from Scanner and choose either Color Image or Custom Scan it's not showing any scanners available (custom scan shows "Please Select a Device") if I choose Color Image it gives an error message "Either scanner driver is not installed or scanner is not connected."
The scanner I'm trying to use is a Ricoh multifunction device on our company network, it's a Ricoh Aficio SP C240 SF.
The problem is an odd one, because on my old computer running Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, I had the same printer but not sure of the driver differences, and when I went to the similar option of Create scan from PDF it listed this printer/scanner as an option.
Anyone have any suggestions on getting Adobe to recognize this printer/scanner?   I have the option of downloading these drivers for the printer/scanner:
ICM files
Network TWAIN
USB TWAIN/WIA
Lan FaxDDST Printer driver (this is what I currently have installed and it looks like what the old computer had installed too)

Well I figured it out (hopefully this helps people in the future).  I had to run the TWAIN setup for this printer/scanner driver (which must just add this driver to the printer) because now when I go into Create Scan from PDF in Acrobat, it lists the scanner

Mac users (Lion) will discover that they cannot scan to Acrobat from their Photosmart Plus Scanner. This is because Adobe does yet have support drivers for Mac Lion. I'd like to know when Adobe will be providing an update to reslove this problem.

This was posted in March and still there is no update! Can Adobe please address this issue?

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 with an HP Officejet G85

For some reason Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 will not recognize the Document Feeder on the HP Officejet G85 All-in-One.  I put the Doc into the feeder tray, I open Acrobat Pro 9 and go to Create >> Scanner >> Color Scan.  It will only use the flatbed scanner,  I went through all the settings and cannot locate any where to tell it to use Doc feeder.  One caveat I tried a "free to try" scanning program and it recognized the feeder and worked fine.(Please don't suggest using the "free to try" program I see no reason to buy another program, after buying Acrobat Pro 9)
    I am using:
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 - ver 9.4.1
HP Officejet G85 All in One

Have you tried scanning using Scanner native interface once? If yes, were you able to scan using ADF from that route?
If not here's how you can do it:
1: go to Create > PDF from Scanner.
2: Click on the button [Options] next to Scanner name and set the User Interface as Show Scanner Native Interface.
Now when you click Scan button, you will see Scanner's Native Scan settings window. Hopefully, there will be a setting for selecting the source for scanning (flatbed or adf). Select ADF and scan.
Please give it a try and update.
    Thanks.

  • Scanning not working with Acrobat Pro X or Photoshop?

My Epson Perfection V350 scanner is listed as a supported scanner on Apple's site.
After installing the latest versions of Acrobat Pro X and Photoshop Extended, the scanner is not available to either app. After several useless exchanges with Adobe online support, I called phone support tonight. I was told that neither Acrobat nor Photoshop support scanning in Mountain Lion and I should use Apple's Image Capture. If that is true it should be considered a catastrophe by Apple, Adobe, and Mac users. I tried installing the latest Photoshop TWAIN driver with not luck. I updated to Mountain Lion because scanning wasn't working in Lion. Appalling.
I have Epson driver 8.0 installed. It is all I can find. If anyone knows of something more recent, or a workaround for this nasty problem, I'm all eyes.
Acrobat Pro X is 10.1.4 and Photoshop Extended is 13.0.1

Matt, you are right about the Epson Scan Utility. I didn't have it installed. I installed it before you posted, and the scanner appears and works in Acrobat, but Photoshop still can't see it. So, half way there. Thanks. The driver was the same as I had installed.
Is there any part of your version of Photoshop 64 bit?  The Epson TWAIN driver is only 32 bit, so that may be the difference.  You mentioned in your first post that you installed the latest Photoshop TWAIN driver.  I wonder if that is the problem.  Is there a way you can go back to an earlier version of that part of Photoshop?  I am not familiar with Photoshop.
If you visit the Drivers and Downloads for the Epson Perfection v350, you find no driver download but this message:
Description: The latest Mac OS X ICA scanner driver for your Epson product is available only via Apple's Software Update. Here's how to get it:
Connect the all-in-one or scanner to your Mac and power it on.
Select the menu, then Software Update.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the available updates.
Note: Software Updates may find multiple updates for your system. You may choose to install all or some of the updates by clicking onShow Details.
Compatible Systems: Mac OS X (v10.8.x)
That is a load of hooey: Software Update installs nothing for the scanner. And it doesn't supply the requisite Epson Scan Utility.
I am well aware of how Epson's pages are laid out.  That is why I gave you the direct download link.  The ICA drivers are for Image Capture.  They do not use the TWAIN technology.  When you are on EPSON's site, you have to override the browser sniffer and say that you are using OS X 10.6.  Then you will see the Epson Scan software.  Much easier just to give you a direct download link from their ftp server.
And yes, the ICA drivers probably were already installed with Mountain Lion.  I think a universal ICA driver is supplied as part of ML for Canon and EPSON scanners.  You can check by looking in the /Library/Image Capture/Devices folder for the EPSON ICA driver.  You will find the TWAIN driver you just installed at /Library/Image Capture TWAIN Data Sources.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - Form Wizard isn't detecting form fields?

    Hi there,
I've been scouring various forums, blogs, etc. to find an answer to my problem, and have yet to be successful.  Here it is:
I've created a form in Illustrator CS5 using the rectangle shape tool to indicate form fields.  I need users to be able to enter information in each of the specified fields.  I've saved the file as a .PDF and have opened it into Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  I then select "Start Form Wizard" from the Forms menu, and after making the appropriate selections it tells me: "No new form field annotations were detected." and then prompts me to the form editing page.  I've also tried simply selecting "Add or Edit Fields" from the Forms menu and the same thing happens - it isn't detecting any form fields.
The only time the Form Wizard or Add or Edit Fields options work is if I use underlines instead of boxes as the form fields, but I'd really prefer to use the boxes since they lend themselves to the aesthetics of the document much better.
I'm new to converting Illustrator files into interactive .PDFs, so I'm not sure what I should be doing.  The background color of the document is grey and the boxes are white with no outline (I tried it with an outline around the boxes and it still didn't work).  Any advice would be much appreciated!  Thanks.
    Beth

    Hi Beth
How big are  these fields? Are they for entering text or just check boxes?
I have found that sometimes FormWizard is not compatible with some Quark files.
Sounds like it might be easier for you to do the fields manually.
First draw the field like you want it and set that as the default then you can choose to paste multiple fields.
Also if you want to use a line for FormWizard you can make the background of the field white and cover the line with it.

"I am buying an Epson scanner. I am told it is compatible with an Apple Computer, is that correct?"
We have no idea, and it isn't really our thing.
"I have been told to get Acrobat XI Pro as the software for the scanner. Is that correct?"
Acrobat XI Pro is available for Mac and is an excellent tool for making PDFs. We can't say whether it will work with the scanner. It depends what drivers Epson provide.
"Will this also scan handwritten documents into a Word document?"
That's not what Acrobat is for. It is for making PDFs. To make handwritten documents into Word documents, you'd just scan as graphics, and insert each graphic on a new page of the Word document. They will remain pictures of text, not something you can edit or copy/paste.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 and Leopard Won't Recognize Scanner

Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I am running OS 10.5.5 on an iMac (intel core duo processor), and using Acrobat Pro 9.0.0. I have an Epson 1640SU scanner, and it has worked fine through all of OS X including Tiger 10.4.11 and Acrobat Pro 9 on my PowerPC (G4 PowerMac). However, I cannot get it to recognize a scanner in Acrobat Pro. When I go to File, Create PDF, From Scanner I get the Acrobat Scan window but there are no scanners available (under Tiger with Acrobat Pro on the PowerMac G4 this window would then allow me to select my scanner). I downloaded the latest Epson drivers, and the scanner works fine with Adobe Photoshop CS3 (IN ROSETTA MODE). Epson had a note regarding CS3 which indicated to set it to operate in Rosetta mode (whatever that is) and the instructions to do so by checking a box in the Get Info command from the Application Finder window. Acrobat Pro does not have any option like that.
Anyhow, am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else run across this? Is there a solution which allows scanning direct from the Acrobat Pro application?
My current work around is to scan in CS3 or the Epson Scan application then to save the document and then to open in with Acrobat Pro and then to work on it.
Thanks for any ideas, information or assistance.
    Barry

the check mark by the scanner in the system preferences indicates That the driver is active. you wan to uncheck all the scanner drivers except any associated with Epson.
what you do once you get into acrobat, is choose the scan device. which should show (choosing SANE). Now go to File menu and choose make PDF from Scanner. If everything is set you get a menu of whether you want front page only Both and so on there will also in acrobat 9 be some setting for Optical Character recognition and so on.
Then choose to start scan after setting everything. Now you will have to wait for the SANE Scanner menu to come up. choose whether color Greyscale or line art and set the slider for the desired DPI. now hit preview. let scanner scan item them you can click anywhere in the bounding box to make it disappear and you can choose the desired portion of document you wan to scan.
Ok and make sure you down only the versions of the components for the OSX version your using. each is written different according to the OS.

  • Acrobat Pro on Mac OS X 10.6.2 doesn't recognize scanner

I recently installed Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.2.0 on my MacBook running OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard). I can't scan from within Acrobat because it doesn't recognize my HP OfficeJet 4315 scanner. I can scan from the Apple Image Capture software just fine. I can edit documents just fine in Acrobat; I just can't scan from within Acrobat.
When I select "Create > PDF from Scanner" I get the following dialog box and no device is in the "Scanner:" dropdown list.
    Please help! Thanks.

Well, I had no idea what I was doing with the whole SANE/Twain thing (although I did read about the SANE project) but I did go ahead and install the Snow Leopard components for SANE as you suggested. This did not help. Now in Acrobat a scanner named "SANE" shows up in the list, but when I select it and try to scan I get the following error message:
I did not see my HP scanner in the list of supported scanners on the SANE site, but thought I'd try anyway.
I have not yet tried the other suggestion you made.
    Thanks for trying.
Sorry won't work unless you machine is listed, or type similar to yours is listed. in one of the components is installed in the system preferences go through that list and turn off all items except for your brand of scanner. And try again.
Also restart computer, and unplug and plug back in your scanners usb connection.
If that doesn't work. Then you have to go to Silverfast and see if they have a package for your Scanner. If so. You will have to pay for it. But is well worth it.
I never have understood which despite having Scanner in Acrobat praticaly since day one. They have never been good about scanner support in Mac anyway.

  • Epson 1670 Scanner & Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.3.3

I'm having trouble using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.3.3 in OS 10.6.4 with an Epson Perfection 1670 scanner. The scanner works fine when I'm using the EPSON Scan software, but the Acrobat application doesn't see or can't communicate with the Epson. Anyone know anything about this?

    Anyone know anything about this?
If anyone does, you'll probably find them on the Adobe forums, as it's their software you're having issues with.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 won't recognize scanner

When I try to scan into Acrobat Pro 9, I can't get the program to recognize my Lexmark x7170 scanner/printer. The scanner scans and prints fine in other programs.
I've looked for driver updates, but the Lexmark page doesn't have any for Mac.
I'd like to use the scanner feeder for multipage documents, so I'm open to suggestions for other programs that can create a multipage document to be turned into a pdf.

the Lexmark page doesn't have any for Mac.
Then you're probably out of luck.
Better post your question on Adobe's forums as Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products:

Adobe Acrobat NI Pro doesn't recognize my wireless scanner, a Canon MG5520, but it prints from the same MG5520. This is ridiculous!

I just used the "Quick Menu" in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro after wasting hours several days when the SSID and Network key/password were already activated and the Adobe software claimed no scanner was available. . These Adobe user manuals are next to useless. Now I'm still dealing with this problem: "Save As was unable to find tables in the document No file was created." (i.e., from the pdf file I created using NI). Well it's obvious there are tables in the pdf, but so far I haven't been able to get a result to determine the intrinsic accuracy of Adobe's pdf to Excel capability.

  • I get prompted to select a scanner and a scan profile/preset each time I try to scan a document to PDF using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

    Hello,
I have a fujitsu scanner (fi-6140) connected to my computer and have the "Scan" button on the scanner associated with Adobe Acrobat.  And so when I press the "Scan" button on the scanner to scan a document, it launches Adobe Acrobat Pro automatically.   Then I get prompted to select a scanner/device and a scan profile.  It seems to remember the last-used scanner/device, however; it still prompts me each time to confirm the scanner/device selected and select a scan profile to use.  Is there a way to save both the scanner & scan profile information and so when I click the "Scan" button, it doesn't prompt me to select but starts scanning using the last-used settings automatically?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Are you facing the issue with any pdf file?
Please try updating Acrobat to 11.0.7 and check.
You might also want to repair Acrobat and see.
