Acrobat Reader or other PDF reader

I have a very simple question and think that anyone of you could help. I am resided in HK and is likely to buy an iPad once on market. My question, whether I can install acrobat reader or any one of those PDF reader into a iPad and read PDF file? By the way, I am new to Apple products so your help will be rated high by me. Many thanks in advance.

Safari can read PDF files off the internet and the tons of free and for pay apps that can store PDFs for off-line viewing.

  • Acrobat Pro as Default PDF Reader

How can I make Acrobat Pro my default PDF reader, I am using a Mac and whenever I open a pdf it opens it in the Mac OS's 'Preview' software instead of Acrobat Pro

Select any PDF, Ctrl + click on "Mac", and select Adobe Reader under "Open With" option. Once the PDF opens with Reader, you will see an option to set it as default application to open PDF.

    Hi wellsfar,
Which version of Adobe Reader you are using?
Is it showing any error message?
A screenshot of the error would be more helpful.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 & iPad pdf reader issues

When I create/edit a pdf in Acrobat 5 and then send to my iPad, the pdf will be complete and correct.  When I create/edit the same pdf in Acrobat 9 Pro and send it to my iPad the pdf will be missing any data that I edited and the other text will be garbled.  This occurs when using both iBooks and Pdf Pro Reader by iTech Development to view the pdf file.  Is this an issue with Acrobat or with the pdf readers?  What is done differently in Acrobat 9 that might cause these readers to have issues?

So, it is definitely an embedded fonts issue.  But I'm still rather
confused with solving the issue.  When I use Acrobat 5 on this pdf, it
embeds a substitute font of Times New Roman for the Times Roman font, but when I use Acrobat 9 it is using some substitute font that is getting garbled in the iPad.  I am still playing and testing, but any additional ideas would be greatful.
I also talked to the developer of the PDF Pro Reader and they opened an issue with Apple regarding the fonts being garbled and also let me know that if I open the pdf on a Mac and save it it will look fine on the iPad.  This did work, but is not something I can use as a solution, since we do not have a Mac and are not looking to purchase one just to solve this issue.

  • Acrobat 8--Making a pdf Read-Only

My little pamphlet included with acrobat says I can make a pdf read-only. It never says another word about that. I tried security with passwords. What I got was some a document that wanted me to enter the password(s) each time I tried to access it. That's not what I wanted. There are hundreds of pdfs floating around on the web who seem to be read-only. I want to allow people to save, print and view it, but not modify it. How does one do that?

OK, I finally figured out how to remove password/permission (change), and then get just a change permissions password. I'm using the pop-up menu Documents Properties dialog to do this. When I look at the summary, it shows Changing the doc allowed, Commenting allowed, ..., Content copy allowed. However, when I go to Change Settings (via button), the story is different. The Changes Allowed pulldown selection shows None. If I pull it down, I see no way to make individual choices shown on the summary. Ah, got it. Good enough. Thanks.

  • ID CS4 URLs not read live in PDF read by Acrobat 6

    Dear All,
I would sure like to find a nice list of what the different versions of Acrobat and Reader can do and not do.
I sent up a PDF (version Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)) made in InDesign CS4 (see system config. below) and my seniors had trouble with it. One had Acrobat 6 and couldn't read URLs yet the Interactive Elements did work. I made sure I specified the 'Export Include - Hyperlinks and Interactive Elements' when I made the PDF file. What to do? So I found the site called OldApps.com and downloaded Acrobat Reader 6.0 for Windows. Sure enough, the URLs did not work but the interactive one did. Going on the idea that having to manually insert a hyperlink in InDesign seemed to have worked and letting ID/Acrobat to create the links didn't work, I made all the links manually in ID. This worked and now all links are live.
If I had some sort of list I'd look up what wasn't and what was supported in past versions of Acrobat/PDF and I could then make adjustments to my INDDs and PDFs accordingly. Does such a beast exist? Do I have to create one?
    System:
    Windows XP Home SP 2
    Creative Suite 4
    Pentium 4 CPU 3GHz
    1.74GB RAM

    Peter,
I think I am getting it through my thick skull.
I opened a PDF made in ID CS4 with no hyperlinks created in InDesign and not turning on the 'Hyperlink' checkbox in the Export window and the links were not 'live' in Reader 6. This was regardless of the option being checked or not in the Pregerences|General section. When I made a PDF with hyperlinks named in the Hyperlinks panel and had the checkbox selected in the Export window, then Reader 6 recognized the links as 'live' regardless of the enabling in the Pregerences|General section of Reader 6.
So now I control the horizontal, I control the vertical...

Assuming that you are on Windows, that's how it works: a program is installed, and assumes ownership of the file association for the files it handles.
There is an easy way to correct that after the installation: open Adobe Reader or Acrobat | Edit | Preferences | General: click on the Select Default PDF Handler button to select between Acrobat and Reader.

  • Foxit reader is default PDF reader and presents a blank page when asked to show a PDF document.

I use Mozilla Firefox and Foxit Reader as my default PDF reader. I go to a web site that has a click-on to a PDF document. Mozilla opens a new tab and presents a blank page with the word "done" in the bottom left corner. The address bar shows the called up document, but no document shows.
    How do I correct this?
If I go to IE which calls on Adobe, the document comes up fine.

Things are still not right online with Wells Fargo/Adobe pdf's. I have uninstalled all versions of Adobe Reader, AIR, and Flash Player, and have downloaded the new versions. I did the flash player a few minutes ago when trying to watch a YouTube video sent via email and I received a prompt telling me I needed to upgrade Adobe Flash Player. When I access the list of Bank statements for what I call my main account ( I have two checking, two savings, and one Visa accounts with this bank) the list of ten or so monthly accounts for this "main account" appears. I can click on any one of them, get a blank pdf, click on the refresh button, then the pdf appears; one of the savings accounts is on this same statement.
If I bring up the other checking account or the other savings account, the only entry on the monthly list that pertains to that account is the second one on the list. All the other months are still from the "main account". I can bring up any of those monthly pdf's via the refresh button route.
The Visa account monthly list is good, but I have to click on refresh to view the pdf.
The pdf statements from US Bank work fine.

  • Embedding Acrobat Reader (or other PDF Display) in OA Page

Hi, I have a scenario where I want the user to view a PDF in part of the page while they are keying in information on form fields in the rest of the page. Is something like this possible? I thought it might be possible to embed the Acrobat reader in an iFrame but I'm not sure what kind of support OA pages offer for that.
Also, if this is not possible, what about rendering the first page of the PDF to an image (TIFF or JPG) using PDF libraries and displaying that? Has anyone played with this?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
You can embed the PDF document inside the HTML o use and Inner Frame to render the PDF. Please check some examples (and explanation) in the following address:

  • How do I do to register Adobe acrobat as the default pdf-reader in Firefox

I musthave that when I need do download documents

When you download a PDF, Firefox should hand the question of how to open it off to the Android OS. If you are having a problem using Adobe when you access the download (either from Firefox's Downloads list, or the system Downloads folder, or the notifications on the top bar), you may need to clear the defaults from the application that is opening the PDF. This should give you back your choice the next time.

  • How do I make Adobe Reader my default PDF reader ?

Hi im trying to open PDF  a file from a website , but unable as it has to be adobe viewer how can I make adobe my default reader ?
    Thanks Davie

    Davie,
My question would be why would you want to have Acrobat as the default view? Preview comes with OS X and opens PDF documents just fine. However if you must then select any pdf on the computer then type Command I (I as in Ivan) to get the information window on the document. Next chose Adobe View under Open With and click Change All.

  • E70 PDF Reader : Unable to open. File type not sup...

This morning I have bought an E70, among others due to its highscreen resolution and the possibility to run a PDF reader on it.
    I have now tried ...
      - the pre-installed Adobe PDF Reader
      - the Adobe PDF Reader supplied with the PC Suite CD-ROM
      - the Adobe PDF Reader available on europe.nokia.com
I am fascinated by a software which presents itself in the About box as '1.5', prompts during installation for '1.0.5' and has filenames '1_5_0'.
Apart from minor variations in the SIS filenames they all share the same annoying feature: They refuse to display any of my PDF files but display a message 'Unable to open. File type not supported. 5. !' instead.
It doesn't seem to be a problem of the PDF files, since a collegue of mine was able to open them on his E61 or E70 (forgot to ask).
Any idea what this problem could be caused by?

I am speechless -- but happy.
The complaint about the file type only appears if you try to open a PDF stored in the phone memory but not if you try to open a PDF stored on the memory card.
    Problem solved.

  • Reading non English pdf in Ipad2

I just bough my ipad2 last week, when I start loading my ibook with my pdfs the problem started.
First all these PDF are none english herbew pdfs.
all of them are displayed perfectly in PC,
all of them apear as Blank pages.
I send them through google email to myself then open them in iBook
I read so many suggestions that my not be worked in my case
1- Open and Save the pdf: I do not have Mac to do that
2- use other pdfs reader like GoodReader: although I did not try this but why this might work, can't see any difference from ibook
One method that worked for few of them is copy paste the text in MS-Word then create new PDF from MS-Word. but the method failed with many of them and did not work at all if there are images.
Any tips, suggestions are really appreciated, will Galaxy be the solution?

As for why GoodReader or something other than iBooks (which probably has the worst of all pdf readers in general), might work, when iBooks does not, there are various reasons, none of which you could ever "see" without trying it.
Is there another way you could try transferring them, either via iTunes or a different email provider or downloading directly via an app like Goodreader?

  • Safari keeps trying to use Adobe Reader to view PDFs

I had to download adobe reader because my banks electronic statements can only be read by it. Even tho it is not my default reader Safari always tried to use it to read a pdf. I can't find any way to tell Safari to use Preview again without uninstalling Adobe Reader.
    Thanks

I had the same problem with bank and some government (FAA) sites.
Without Adobe Reader installed, they either would not download or would download a blank pdf page.
With Aobe Reader installed, you can download to view in Safari, but cannot save on your Mac as a .pdf.
[When Adobe Reader is default .pdf reader it hijacks the Export PDF option, including using printer driver to print to file as .pdf]
Deleting AdobePDFVewer.plugin from /Library/Internet will work, but there are a couple of easier fixes than deleting and reinstalling the plugins:
You can switch the default viewer back and forth (including Safari's default viewer) by:
Right click on a .pdf file and from the context menu select Get Info > Open With: (select Adobe Reader or Preview) > Change All and close the popup to set selected app as default.
If you have to use Adobe Reader to view a .pdf on the picky site and decide to save it - don't try to use Adobe Reader to do so (via Safari).
      Instead either:
    1. Option click on the site's link to the .pdf to download to your default download folder.
    - or-
    2. Right click on the site's link to the .pdf and select either "download linked file..." or "Save linked file as.." and save to desired folder.
I am not sure if this will work in all cases, but so far it has worked OK for those I normally use.
