Acrobat Reader X : Error using javascript with ProtectedMode on

Stumped with an issue.
I have a PDF with a mouseup event to trigger the PDF to SAVE to a network location and it works fine in v9 but with Reader X and enable Protected Mode turned on it throws the following error:
NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method.
Doc.saveAs
I get the above error even though the NETWORK PATH has been added in Reader preferences as a trusted PATH and the web site is listed as a trusted site.
What am I missing here?

According to the documentation, I am supposed to be able to setup a POLICY file "ProtectedModeWhitelistConfig.txt" and add parameters to it such as
FILES_ALLOW_DIR_ANY = c:\tempfiles\*
FILES_ALLOW_ANY = c:\tempfiles\*
I want the ability to save to a UNC network path...it worked fine in Acrobat 9 and now with sandbox security and protectedMode in "X" nothing works.
In Acrobat X, if "enable protected mode" is on, NOTHING works and an error is thrown.  If it is unchecked, the saveAs works fine.

  • Print Problem - PDF is OK on Windows 7, but OK on Windows XP with "Acrobat Reader An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem."

    I have received a PDF which prints fine in Windows 7 but with Windows XP I get "Acrobat Reader An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem." and a blank piece of paper passes through the printer. I appreciate that Windows XP is no longer supported but I would like to think that the solution to this problem is not too difficult!
    I have tried Acrobat 9, 10 and 11.
    Any advice (apart from use Windows 7! ) would be most welcome.
    Many thanks.

    If you use the same Adobe Reader versions with the same PDF on Windows 7 and XP, then I would expect the outcome to be the same.
    Is this a local or online PDF?
    If local, is the file really exactly the same?
    If online, in what browser?

  • Using Javascript With Acrobat Forms

    Hello,
    I have been attempting to use Javascript with forms made using Acrobat X Pro. Particularly, I am attempting to use the Font palette with Text fields as described in http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/tips/CalcScripts.pdf .
    One example of this is the Strikethrough property.  TextField1.caption.font.lineThrough = "linethrough" and TextField1.font.lineThrough = "linethrough". I see that "linethrough" is an enumeration (Having values of 0,1, and 2). But I have tried this numerous times, in various ways, and it does not work. I also tried other Font properties and could not get them to work. Is there more setup to this? I am still very much new to developing Forms, and it was frustrating for me to not find a resource that outlined all of the stuff you could do with Forms. My only prior experience with Javascript is for web pages. The pdf I mentioned above seemed promising, but I'm having trouble implementing it.
    I appreciate any help for this!

  • Using JavaScript with Acrobat XI Standard

    I am part of a transition team setting up a new correctional facility. I am working with our IT dept to purchase licenses for Acrobat XI. I need to get a definitive answer on using JavaScript with XI standard. The forms I am working with have a variety of scripts mostly button activated. Actions include saving and renaming files to a networked drive. Money is always an issue so if I can use XI standard that would be the better financial choice. The documents will not be created using XI standard just processed.

  • I am trying to drag and drop one page of a .pdf into another .pdf in Acrobat Reader.  I used to be able to drag and drop from one .pdf to another.

    I am trying to drag and drop one page of a .pdf into another .pdf in Acrobat Reader.  I used to be able to drag and drop from one .pdf to another.

    If you could drag and drop pages before, it wasn't in Reader. You no doubt had Adobe Acrobat (Pro or Standard) which shouldn't be confused with Adobe Acrobat Reader. They recently added Acrobat to the name of Adobe Reader so the confusion about which product you had and/or have is understandable.

  • Use Javascript with InDesign buttons?

    I haven't been able to find ANY info about this anywhere, but I'm wondering if it's possible to call a Javascript function from an InDesign button, instead of link to a web address. This can obviously be done in Flash, but the same syntax that works in Flash does not work in InDesign. I'm not referring to the Scripts panel here - I'm talking about using Javascript with a button created in InDesign. I tried calling a JS function with the GetURL action, to no avail.
    If anybody has ever done this, please post a sample of the correct syntax for a JS function call, as well as which action I should use. Many thanks in advance!

    (Edit: I'm talking about ID CS4/CS5 SWF export, naturally)
    I don't know why, but the following URL (using a global javascript function) seems to work, somehow;
    javascript:alert('testing');
    Arbitrary function names do not work - browser just says "function not defined" - although the same stuff works in Flash. For example;
    javascript:myFunction();
    Also, there seems to be very little info on which (button) properties are included in the SWF export.
    Additional information on the subject would be much appreciated here, too.

    We have a similar need. We have used Cold Fusion to display data from Our Oracle Database. We have a simple SElect Box in HTML populated with the oracle data. When someone selects say the State of Pennsylvania. then we have an On change event that runs a Javascript to go get all the cities in Pennsylvania.
    Proble we are having is that inorder for the Javascript to work , we currently have to send all the valid data.
    Do you know of any way to dynamically query the the Oracle database in Javascript

  • Acrobat read-only error message

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4117896
    Hello I am following on from a previously reported issue.
    We have a client who are using Adobe Acrobat 9 and have .PDF's saved in a Share Folder. Is the creator of the document but is still faced with the read only prompt when trying to save the document after making an edit (e.g rotating). Upgrading to Adobe Acrobat 9 isn't an option.
    Folder permissions in both Share and NTFS is okay.
    User's profile has full control of the folder it is being saved in. I've also ensured the reading pane is Windows Explorer is off when they're opening it.
    Have run a repair on Adobe Acrobat 9 and tried with other documents with the same result.
    Saving locally does not have the same issue.
    Please advise a solution for using .PDF for Adobe Acrobat 9 in a Share Folder environment.
    Server is SBS2008 and user's PC is Windows 7 Professional.
    Eagerly await a fix.

    I am having the same issue. Acrobat X was working fine for me for months, then out of the blue, it starts having this problem TODAY! (There must be something about the month of November when people have this problem with Acrobat! )
    Each time I open a PDF file in Acrobat and make an edit, (such as highlighting text or adding a link to a web page), I cannot save the file by the same name. I get the "read only" error message:
    "The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."
    I installed the latest updates for Acrobat after this problem occurred, but the "read only" error message persists. In a previous thread, one person suggested turning off Acrobat's Protected Mode by going to Edit/Preferences/General and unchecking the Enable Protected Mode At Startup. I do not see this option in Acrobat X.
    The only work-around I've found is to save the PDF file with a temporary name, then after making the edits in Acrobat, save the file as the original name that you wanted the file to be in the first place.
    I'd rather not have to mess with work-arounds. I just want to make this problem go away. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
    regards,

  • Extract data from the fields in Acrobat Reader 7.0 using VB

    I am looking for a way to extract fields values from the pdf file using VBA for Excel. I have Acrobat Reader 7.0. I have a script that would extract fields values from the PDF using Aformaut.fields.... But this script only works with Acrobat.Standard or PRO. When I am trying to instantiate/create Aformaut.app object I am getting an error message stating that ActiveX cannot create such object. Please advise.

    Five months have passed, so it's unlikely this reply will help the
    original poster. But should anyone be searching the archives, here's a
    reply anyway.
    Aformaut.app is part of Acrobat Professional. You have to buy that,
    you can't script this in the free Adobe Reader.

  • Acrobat Reader installed detection via JavaScript

    I am curious whether or not Adobe plans on using AcroPDF.PDF.1 as an indicator of the most current version of Adobe Reader (for activeXObjects in Internet Explorer). I know that this will work for detecting whether Reader 7 is installed but now that I think about it, when Reader 8 comes out, if a user already has Reader 7 installed, obviously AcroPDF.PDF.1 will be defined in their registry so eval("new ActiveXObject('AcroPDF.PDF.1')") will return true. Does anyone know, Adobe specifically, how the next version of Reader will be classified in the ActiveX list (or registry key). Will it be AcroPDF.PDF.2?
    The reason why I am asking is because I need to detect whether or not our clients have the latest version of Acrobat Reader installed for printing documents from our site. I apologize in advance if the following code looks really messy. This is my first post and I just pasted my code directly into the textarea box. Here's what my detection code looks like and works fine for now (but when Reader 8 comes out....hmmmm):
    if(window.ActiveXObject) { // Internet Explorer  var tryReader7 = true;  for (var iVer = 20; iVer >= 0; iVer--) {   try {    if(tryReader7) {     /*********************************************      Check to see if Reader 7 is installed first.     TRUE: Break out of loop     FALSE: Set flag to false so that this check       isn't executed each pass through       by the loop     *********************************************/     tryReader7   = false; // We only want to check ONCE          var Reader7Exists = eval("new ActiveXObject('AcroPDF.PDF.1'); ");     if(Reader7Exists) {      // User met Adobe Reader Version Requirements      oReader.installed = "True";      oReader.version  = max_ReaderVerReq +".0";      oReader.message  = aMessageStatus[4]; //"Adobe® Reader® installed"      oReader.needsUpdate = 0;      break;      }    }        var ReaderExists  = eval("new ActiveXObject('PDF.PdfCtrl." +iVer+ "'); ");    if(ReaderExists) {     // User met Adobe Reader Existence Requirements     oReader.installed = "True";     oReader.version  = iVer + ".0";     oReader.message  = aMessageStatus[4]; //"Adobe® Reader® installed"     break;     }   } catch(e) { // (minimum|maximum) version not detected    oReader.message  = aMessageStatus[7]; //"You do not have the latest Adobe® Reader® installed or enabled.   }   }

    I am trying with Reader 9.
    I am not trying to print from the server. The printing will happen on the client computers that is why I am trying to print using javascript from an html page. My clients do have different versions of Reader from 6 to latest
    Is there any way to achieve it with out installing anything else on the computers?
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Reader Submit Button using JavaScript

    We have a form that when submitted it needs to use javascript to update the Subject Line of the email message for our workflow process. This process works absolutely great when using Acrobat. However, when sent to someone using Reader (even with JavaScript enabled through preferences) nothing happens when the button is clicked. The form was designed in Acrobat 10 Professional.
    Here is the JavaScript we are using...
    var wsuid = this.getField ("mywsuid");
    var d = new Date();
    var month = d.getMonth()+1;
    var day = d.getDate();
    var year = d.getFullYear();
    var today = ((''+month).length<2 ? '0' : '') + month + '/' + ((''+day).length<2 ? '0' : '') + '/' + day +  year;
    var name = this.getField("name");
    var subject = "subject: " + (wsuid.valueAsString) + ":" + (name.valueAsString) + ":" + (today);
    this.mailDoc({
        bUI: true,
        cTo: "[email protected]",
        cCc: "",
        cSubject: subject,
    Suggestions on getting this to work with Acrobat Reader is much appreciated.

    I was able to open the JavaScript debugger in Acrobat Pro. When the document is Reader Enabled, I get the following message:
    Acrobat EScript Built-in Functions Version 10.0
    Acrobat SOAP 10.0
    NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method.
    Doc.subject:15:Field Submit:Mouse Up
    And in Acrobat Pro - I now see Protected View is set to Off.

I've insatlled also Acrobat Reader XI, but the problem persists. It seems it is very slow to process the file. Hi Robert,
    I am so sorry for the inconvenience caused & will try my best to get this issue resolved.
    I will recommend you to upgrade your Adobe reader to Adobe Acrobat Reader DC on your Samsung Note 3 mobile phone and then try to view the pdf files. You can download it for free from the Google app. store or you can refer to this link Acrobat Reader DC Learn & Support.

  • Acrobat reader not viewing the PDF with dotted lines

    Hi,  We are using Acrobat Reader Version 10. In that version, if we open the PDF which has figures with dotted lines. It is showing as solid lines. We checked the other versions of Acrobat Reader and the same problem persists in the versions 8, 9  and 11.  But the dotted lines are visible only in the Acrobat Reader Version 7.  The PDF was created by client in "powerpoint" using "Acrobat PDFMaker". There is no provision to attached the PDF in this forum. Any body who came across the issues, please advice.  Shaji
