Acrobat replaces NTFS permissions of Temp folder

OS: Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1
Acrobat Pro v11.0.1
I have set location of my Temp folder to another drive F:.
This folder is pointed by both %TEMP% and %TMP% environment variables.
My user (ex. "SomeDomain\SomeUser") belongs to Adminstrators group and set as owner of this folder.
Acrobat is run under regular privileges of my account (UAC is default).
At random time intervals Acrobat would change the NTFS file permissions of the Temp folder and remove my user (i.e. "SomeDomain\SomeUser") from the permissions list.
Here is an audit event log entry (EventID 4670):
Permissions on an object were changed. Subject:    Security ID:        SomeDomain\SomeUser    Account Name:        SomeUser    Account Domain:        SomeDomain    Logon ID:        0xbf91d Object:    Object Server:    Security    Object Type:    File    Object Name:    F:\Temp    Handle ID:    0x424 Process:    Process ID:    0x69c    Process Name:    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe Permissions Change:    Original Security Descriptor:    D:PAI(A;OICI;0x1201ff;;;WD)(A;OICI;FA;;;S-1-5-21-1707761498-773545259-750896631-1000)(A;OICI;FA;;;BA)(A;OICI;FA;;;SY)    New Security Descriptor:    D:PARAI(A;;FA;;;BA)(A;OICIIO;GA;;;BA)(A;;0x1201df;;;WD)(A;OICIIO;DTGWGR;;;WD)
This causes various runtime errors when installing application.

Solution is simple
1. Create one small partition in your hard disk (1 GB or less)
2. Format that new partition with FAT32
3. Put your personal temp folder in that partition
4. Enjoy

  • Search and Replace NTFS permissions by SID

    About to pick up a file server out of an SBS domain and drop it into a new domain.
    When I drop the server into the new domain it will break all the permissions and they will just be SIDs
    Are there any tools or scripts (paid or not) that let me do something like a SID based search and replace within NTFS permissions?
    Cheers

    Try this:
    Turn on Show Invisibles in the View menu.
    Select (highlight) the double para breaks.
    Use Command-E  (Find using selected text).
    Open the Find dialogue box (Command-F) and select Find & Replace.The selected para breaks will be in the Find text entry box, but will not be visible!
    Click in the Replace text entry box.
    Select (highlight) a single para break.
    Go to the Edit menu / Find and select 'Use selection for replace' (it will not show in the Replace entry box).
    In the Find & Replace dialogue box, click on the Forward or Back arrows to highlight the selected items (e.g. double para break) where you wish to start replacing in the document.
    Use the Replace All / Replace & Find / Replace buttons as per usual.
    Not a nice solution, but I hope it gets you going until Apple restores the previous functionality!

  • Can't apply NTFS permissions - Access denied

    When I am trying to change NTFS permissions on shared folder I get the error:
    An error occurred while applying security information to:
    \\fileserver2\etc
    Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied.
    fileserver2 is Server 2012R2.
    Folder "etc" is shared with full control permissions to
    everyone.
    My user has "Full control" NTFS permissions on that folder.
    P.S. If I login to fileserver2 via Remote desktop, I am able to change permissions for that folder, but not when doing same action via share.

    Hi Aurimas,
    Based on my test , if you want to "everyone" to change NTFS permission of root file share  you need to change "everyone" to be the owner of the share folder .

    Hello,
    I do not want "everyone" to be able to change NTFS permissions, I want those with "Full Control" to be able to change NTFS permissions as currently they can't.

  • Acrobat Reader X stores PDFs in Temp-folder even when HTTP-headers say no-cache no-store

    After updating from Acrobat Reader 9 to 10 we have noticed that PDFs viewed in the browser are left behind in the Temp-folder even after the browser has been closed.
    Http-headers in the response from the server
    Cache-Controls: no-cache,no-store,max-age=0,post-check=0,pre-check=0
    Content-Type: application/pdf
    Content-Disposition: inline; filename="xxxxxxxx.pdf"
    Expires: 0
    Pragma: no-cache
    Folder: [User-folder]\AppData\Local\Temp
    Filename-format: PDFxxx.tmp
    Browsers: Firefox 3.6, Opera 11, Safari 5
    Plugin: Acrobat Reader 10
    Simply add a .pdf extension to the file and open again in Acrobat Reader. Since the server has set headers indicating that this PDF should not be stored locally, it is a severe security hole leaving traces of this PDF on the filesystem.
    Is this a problem Adobe is aware of? When can we expect this to be fixed?
    Regards,
    Gustav

    Hi Michael,
    Thank you for you quick response!
    In Acrobat 9, I cannot find the PDFs in the Temp-folder after the browser has been closed.
    In Acrobat 10, PDFs are left behind in the Temp-folder even after browser close.
    To me, this looks like a bug in Acrobat 10. Would you not agree?

  • Overwritten temp folder / drive permissions

    Hello,
    I have this annoying issue with windows 8.1, my temp folder permission is changed periodically (like once a month or so) and I have to change it back manually, but I don't know what and why is doing this.
    And right now this issue is grown, When I'm trying to copy or save a file to my secondary HDD a Windows allert pops up saying something like this: A required privilege is not held by the client (0X80070522)
    Than I looked up the permissions and the Authenticated User was blanked out none of the checkboxes were checked
    The funny thing is that Windows put the boot to that drive and haf of my softwares are also there and still something was able to change permissions (and or Ownership),
    I would think Windows protects the MBR more.
    So, I would like to know how can I resolve this and get my rights back to my HDD and find what is messing with my folder and drive permissions. Oh and is that right that the owner on that drive is TrustedInstaller because on my other drive Administrators
    are the owner?
    And please don't say to delete my user account because I use a lots of software which needs configuration (like IIS, MySQL, etc..) and right now I don't have a day or two to reconfigure everything.

    Hi,
    For this issue,please reset the  security settings on your system from the following article.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222
    Note:This article is for windows vista and let us test if it works Windows 8.1.
    Just run in a evalated prompt the following command.
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
    If the issue persists,please reset all permissions, run this command:
    icacls * /reset /t /c /q

  • Renaming folder resets NTFS permissions

    Hi
    I have installed a new file server, running Server 2012 R2. I have created a shared folder and set the NTFS permissions. I then renamed the folder and noticed that the NTFS permissions had ben removed and reset.
    I have never seen this behavior before, and I find it a bit worrying???
    Lasse
    /Lasse

    Hi Amy
    The steps I initially did:
    1. Create folder in the root of D:
    2. Disabled inheritance
    3. Added the necessary permissions (The user I use is a domain admin, and is also added)
    4. Shared the folder to Everyone with full control
    5. Right click on the shared folder and selected rename and gave the folder a different name
    6. Vupti dupti, the permissions has changed to the following:
    SYSTEM
    MY USERNAME
    Administrators (LocalServer\Administrators)
    I have just done the same thing on a different server, and it's the exact same behavior, both servers running Server 2012 R2.
    I have also tested it on a Server 2008 R2, and it gives me the same warning as you and if I press continue the folder is renamed and the permissions has NOT been changed.
    So it seems to be a Server 2012 R2 "issue".

  • Unexpected NTFS permissions behavior

    I am administering a home server running Windows 2008 R2 (accessed by several Windows 8.1 clients) and have run into an NTFS permissions issue I do not understand.
    On this server there is a S drive that contains all the online storage for our network.
    The structure of the S drive looks like this:
    Files
      Public
        VariousPublicFolders
      Private
        Person1
          Person1sStuff
        Person2
          Person1sStuff
    Temp
    Before any security modifications were made, the root of the S drive had the following permissions:
    SYSTEM : Full Control
    Administrators : Full Control
    Users : Read and Execute
    Also, all the above folders on this drive are owned by the Administrators group.
    Then I started changing permissions in order to satisfy my security requirements.
    For example, I disinherited permissions on Temp and allowed "Everyone" Full Control there.
    That works fine.
    What doesn't work fine is the permissions I am trying to set on the personal folders under the Private tree.
    I want to make sure no one else (other than administrators) has access to anyone's personal data  (the data in the Person1, Person2, etc folders).
    So I disinherted permissions on each of those folders and then explicity set the following:
    SYSTEM : Full Control
    Administrators : Full Control
    PersonX : Full Control
    This, I thought should work beautifully.
    I thought it should give each person full control of what happens in their personal folder, and also allow administrators and the system to get in there.
    But it is giving people in the Administrators group problems.
    I have a user called Custodian which is part of the Administrators group, and I use this user to do administrative tasks.
    As Custodian, when I try to access someone's personal folder in Explorer I am greeted with a message that says "You don't currently have permission to access this folder."
    Whaaaaat?
    I am offered "Click continue to permanently get access to this folder."
    If I say YES then Custodian is explicitly added to the folder ACL, and I can proceed to access the files there.
    But I don't want this.
    Custodian is already an Administrator, and Administrators already have full control of the folder.  Why should I even be prompted, and even worse, have my user unnecessarily added to the ACL?
    This is bad bad bad.
    I think what is going on is that UAC is coming into play.  I read somewhere that Administrators normally do not use their administrative token until they hit something that requires it, then UAC kicks in and asks to elevate them.  This would be
    fine if it happened.  I guess I wouldn't mind having to click OK to enter a folder that requires admin access.  But this is not what is happening.  I am just blanket denied until I explicitly add the Custodian account to the ACL.
    Can someone explain why an admin user is denied access to a folder having full control given to admins?  What is going on here?
    Can someone suggest a way to rig permissions so that my admin user doesn't have to be added explicity?
    I just want to be able to browse and alter the entire drive with ANY administrative user without being bothered to alter permissions.  I don't even mind being prompted for elevation, although honestly I'd prefer not to have that happen either.

    Thank you, Milos, for taking the time to look at this.
    RE: Making the post shorter, I'm not sure I could.  It's not an easy problem to state, and I tried to do so in as few words as possible, any less and I would be leaving out critical info.
    Here are your questions, answered.
    (2) Yes, I am using a workgroup.
    (3) An example calcs output
    S:\Files\Private\Scott DATABANK\Scott:(OI)(CI)F
                           BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)F
                           NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)F
    (4) The share permissions are full, yes, but this is immaterial.  I suffer the problem accessing the files locally/directly on the server.  I probably shouldn't have mentioned anything about the share.  It's just that the problem came to light
    while I WAS accessing the files through the share, but then I tried locally and still had the problem.
    I am unsure of what you mean in (5) (6) (7).  Could you elaborate?

  • Defining NTFS Permissions for High Volume Security

    The default NTFS file permissions for the boot volume in Windows 8.1 appear to give Modify access to "Authenticated Users".   That is really permissive.   I have a lot of folders I do not want anyone not authenticated as Administrator
    to touch.   Of course I could change every folder manually and test for side effects, but I am hoping someone has already tested this and has published a document.   I am looking for a detailed description of how to secure the volume so that ordinary
    users cannot modify attributes, filenames, or data for most files on the volume.
    Will

    Ronald, thanks for your reply.  Now we are talking the right topic.
    1) How did you modify the root permissions?  One way to do that might be to remove Modify and Create authority for the "Authenticated Users" entity and replace that with just Read & Execute.
    2) I understand that Microsoft tightened things to prevent normal users from having modify access inside subfolders.   This works fine for well behaved applications that use things like the "Program Files" subfolder.   Unfortunately, many
    applications are badly behaved and put themselves directly under the root of the boot volume.  AMD for example puts its video drivers in c:\amd by default.     Since that folder inherits from the root, and the root gives permissive access to
    users to create and modify files, now many sensitive DLLs in this install folder could be easily modified by any user.
    One of the worst viruses I ever had was a denial of service virus that acted simply by hiding every single file on your file system.   We had locked down NTFS permissions but had forgotten to lock down file attributes.   It took forever to recover
    from that.
    So, bottom line, I like to run as tight a file security as possible, and I like to stay logged in as a normal user and greatly restrict what normal users can change.
    Microsoft definitely tightened things up in Windows 8 and that's great.

  • Making NTFS permissions read/write without ability to create/delete folders

    Out at one of our job sites we have a server running Windows Server 2012 R2 that's got a file share accessible to our onsite people. Our project managers have devised a very strict folder structure for this file share, and for auditing purposes they want
    to stick as close to this structure as possible.
    Therefore, although people onsite must have read/write access to create, modify and delete files, they do not want them to be able to create or delete folders. They want them to use the existing folders and not tuck stuff away into folders that no one knows
    exists except the person who created them.
    The closest way I've found to do this is to deselect the advanced permissions 'Create folders / append data' and 'Delete subfolders and files.' This has a few side effects however, the most noticeable being that due to not being able to append data to files,
    certain files (such as CAD drawings) can't be edited by anyone except the person who created them.
    Is there a way using just NTFS permissions to accomplish what the project managers want? And if not, are there any useful third-party utilities that will help us do this?
    Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi,
    I'm not much familiar with AutoCAD- what's the exact behavior which is stopped by the restricted folder permission?
    For example, if AutoCAD will create a folder in editing, we will not have a solution as users needed to create folders so that AutoCAD could run properly.
    And if AutoCAD works like Office files, that create a temp file for editing, this will be the solution:
    1. Give Domain Admins - Full Control - This folder, subfolders and files.
    This is to allow all admin could access and edit all data.
    2. Give SpecificUsers group (a group contain all normal users) - Full Control without "Change permissions" and "Take Ownership" -
    Files Only.
    This is to give that group most permissions to create, edit and delete files but not Folders.
    3. Give SpecificUsers group another permission:
    Traverse folder
    List FOlder
    Read Attributes
    Read extended attributes
    Create files - this is important. Without this permission you will not able to save Office files.
    Read permissions.
    Give above permissions to "This Folder, subfolders and files".
    This is to allow users to access all subfolders.

  • Multiple plugtmp-1 plugtmp-2 etc. in local\temp folder stay , crossdomain.xml and other files containing visited websitenames created while private browsing

    OS = Windows 7
    When I visit a site like youtube whith private browsing enabled and with the add-on named "shockwave flash" in firefox add-on list installed and activate the flashplayer by going to a video the following files are created in the folder C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Temp\plugtmp-1
    plugin-crossdomain.xml
    plugin-strings-nl_NL-vflLqJ7vu.xlb
    The contents of plugin-crossdomain contain both the "youtube.com" adress as "s.ytimg.com" and is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
    -<cross-domain-policy> <allow-access-from domain="s.ytimg.com"/> <allow-access-from domain="*.youtube.com"/> </cross-domain-policy>
    The contents of the other file I will spare you cause I think those are less common when I visit other sites but I certainly don't trust the file. The crossdomain.xml I see when I visit most other flashpayer sites as well.
    I've also noticed multiple plugin-crossdomain-1.xml and onwards in numbers, I just clicked a youtube video to test, got 6 of them in my temp plus a file named "plugin-read2" (no more NL file cause I changed my country, don't know how youtube knows where I'm from, but that's another subject, don't like that either). I just noticed one with a different code:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    -<cross-domain-policy> <allow-access-from domain="*"/> </cross-domain-policy>
    So I guess this one comprimises my browsing history a bit less since it doesn't contain a webadress. If these files are even meant to be deposited in my local\temp folder. The bigger problem occurs when they stay there even after using private browsing, after clearing history, after clearing internet temporary files, cache, whatever you can think of. Which they do in my case, got more than 50 plugtmp-# folders in the previous mentioned local\temp folder containing all website names I visited in the last months. There are a variety of files in them, mostly ASP and XML, some just say file. I have yet to witness such a duplicate folder creation since I started checking my temp (perhaps when firefox crashes? I'd say I've had about 50 crashes in recent months).
    I started checking my temp because of the following Microsoft Security Essential warnings I received on 23-4-12:
    Exploit:Java/CVE-2010-0840.HE
    containerfile:C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache2196625541034777730.tmp
    file:C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache2196625541034777730.tmp->pong/reversi.class
    and...
    Exploit:Java/CVE-2008-5353.ZT
    containerfile:C:\Users\Noname\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache1028270176376464057.tmp
    file:C:\Users\Noname\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache1028270176376464057.tmp->Testability.class
    Microsoft Security Essentials informed me that these files were quarantained and deleted but when going to my temp file they were still there, I deleted them manually and began the great quest of finding out what the multiple gigabytes of other files and folders were doing in that temp folder and not being deleted with the usual clearing options within firefox (and IE).
    Note that I have set my adobe flasplayer settings to the most private intense I could think of while doing these tests (don't allow data storage for all websites, disable peer-to peer stuff, don't remember exactly anymore, etc.). I found it highly suspicious that i needed to change these settings online on an adobe website, is that correct? When right-clicking a video only limited privacy options are available which is why I tried the website thing.
    After the inital discovery of the java exploit (which was discovered by MSE shortly after I installed and started my first scan with Malwarebytes, which in turn made me suspicious whether I had even downloaded the right malwarebytes, but no indication in the filename if I google it). Malwarebytes found nothing, MSE found nothing after it said it removed the files, yet it didn't remove them, manually scanning these jar_cache files with both malwarevytes and MSE resulted in nothing. Just to be sure, I deleted them anyways like I said earlier. No new jar_cache files have been created, no exploits detected since then. CCleaner has cleaned most of my temp folder, I did the rest, am blocking all cookies (except for now shortly), noscript add-on has been running a while on my firefox (V 3.6.26) to block most javascripts except from sites like youtube. I've had almost the same problem using similar manual solutions a couple of months ago, and a couple of months before that (clearing all the multiple tmp folders, removing or renaming jar_cache manually, running various antmalware software, full scan not finding a thing afterwards, installing extra add-ons to increase my security, this time it's BetterPrivacy which I found through a mozilla firefox https connection, I hope, which showed me nicely how adobe flash was still storing LSO's even after setting all storage settings to 0 kb and such on the adobe website, enabling private browsing in firefox crushed those little trolls, but still plugtmp trolls are being created, help me crush them please, they confuse me when I'm looking for a real threat but I still want to use flash, IE doesn't need those folders and files, or does it store them somewhere else?).
    I'm sorry for the long story and many questions, hope it doesn't scare you away from helping me fight this. I suspect it's people wanting to belong to the hackergroup Anonymous who are doing this to my system and repeating their tricks (or the virus is still there, but I've done many antivirus scans with different programs so no need to suggest that option to me, they don't find it or I run into it after a while again, so far, have not seen jar_cache show up). Obviously, you may focus on the questions pertaining firefox and plugtmp folders, but if you can help me with any information regarding those exploits I would be extremely grateful, I've read alot but there isn't much specific information for checking where it comes from when all the anti-virus scanners don't detect anything anymore and don't block it incoming. I also have downloaded and installed process monitor but it crashes when I try to run it. The first time I tried to run it it lasted the longest, now it crashes after a few seconds, I just saw the number of events run up to almost a million and lots of cpu usage. When it crashed everything returned back to normal, or at least that's what I'm supposed to think I guess. I'll follow up on that one on their forum, but you can tell me if the program is ligit or not (it has a microsoft digital signature, or the name micosoft is used in that signature).

    update:
    I haven't upgraded my firefox yet because of a "TVU Web Player" plugin that isn't supported in the new firefox and I'm using it occasionally, couldn't find an upgrade for it. Most of my other plugins are upgraded in the green (according to mozilla websitechecker):
    Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31 (green)
    Shockwave for Director (green - from Adobe I think)
    Shockwave Flash (green - why do I even need 2 of these adobe add-ons? can I remove one? I removed everything else i could find except the reader i think, I found AdobeARM and Adobe Acrobat several versions, very confusing with names constantly switching around)
    Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.310.5 (green, grrr, again a second java, why do they do this stuff, to annoy people who are plagued with java and flash exploits? make it more complicating?)
    Adobe Acrobat (green, great, it's still there, well I guess this is the reader then)
    TVU Web Player for FireFox (grey - mentioned it already)
    Silverlight Plug-In (yellow - hardly use it, I think, unless it's automatic without my knowing, perhaps I watched one stream with it once, I'd like to remove it, but just in case I need it, don't remember why I didn't update, perhaps a conflict, perhaps because I don't use it, or it didn't report a threat like java and doesn't create unwantend and history compromising temp files)
    Google Update (grey - can I remove? what will i lose? don't remember installing it, and if I didn't, why didn't firefox block it?)
    Veetle TV Core (grey)
    Veetle TV Player (grey - using this for watching streams on veetle.com, probably needs the Core, deleted the broadcaster that was there earlier, never chose to install that, can't firefox regulate that when installing different components? or did i just miss that option and assumed I needed when I was installing veetle add-on?)
    Well, that's the list i get when checking on your site, when i use my own browseroptions to check add-ons I get a slightly different and longer list including a few I have already turned off (which also doesn't seem very secure to me, what's the point in using your site then for anything other than updates?), here are the differences in MY list:
    I can see 2 versions of Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31, (thanks firefox for not being able to copy-paste this)
    one "Classic Java plug-in for Netscape and Mozilla"
    the other is "next generation plug-in for Mozilla browsers".
    I think I'll just turn off the Netscape and Mozilla one, don't trust it, why would I need 2? There I did it, no crashes, screw java :P
    There's also a Mozilla Default plugin listed there, why does firefox list it there without any further information whether I need it or not or whether it really originates from Mozilla firefox? It doesn't even show up when I use your website plugin checker, so is there no easy way by watching this list for me to determin I can skip worrying about it?
    There's also some old ones that I recently deactivated still listed like windows live photo gallery, never remember adding that one either or needing it for anything and as usual, right-clicking and "visit homepage" is greyed out, just as it is for the many java crap add-ons I encountered so far.
    Doing a quick check, the only homepage I can visit is the veetle one. The rest are greyed out. I also have several "Java Console" in my extentions tab, I deactivated all but the one with the highest number. Still no Java Console visible though, even after going to start/search "java", clicking java file and changing the settings there to "show" console instead of "hide" (can't remember exact details).
    There's some other extentions from noscript, TVU webplayer again, ADblock Plus and now also BetterPrivacy (sidenote, a default.LSO remains after cleanup correct? How do I know that one isn't doing anything nasty if it's code has been changed or is being changed? To prevent other LSO's I need to use both private browsing and change all kinds of restrictions online for adobe flashplayer, can anyone say absurd!!! if you think you're infected and want to improve your security? Sorry that rant was against Adobe, but it's really against Anonymous, no offense).

    Win7 32bit with Outlook 2010 32bit -> Works on this setup
    Win7 64bit with Outlook 2010 32bit -> Does not work on this set up
    Problem:
    Sending many emails with the same attachment fills the outlook secure temp folder
    C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\ZT7WMFGK\
    (with a temp copy of the attachment) these files are not removed on Win7 64bit so at about 200 emails the exception is thrown:
    "Cannot create file [file name]. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder."
    On Win7 32bit i can see the files getting automatically deleted from the secure temp folder so there is no problem
    Im not sure where to start with this.

    Seems that you have to release the objects explicitly. According to articles (http://www.bing.com/search?q=c%23%20release%20com%20objects), try this:
    Application outlookApplication =
    new
    Application();
    _MailItem oMailItem = (_MailItem)outlookApplication.CreateItem(
    OlItemType.olMailItem );
    var recipients = oMailItem.Recipients;
    var recipient = recipients.Add(
    recipient.Type =
    1;
    oMailItem.Subject =
    "test email";
    oMailItem.BodyFormat =
    OlBodyFormat.olFormatHTML;
    oMailItem.Save();
    var attachments = oMailItem.Attachments;
    var attachment1 = attachments.Add(
    @". . . .", (int)OlAttachmentType.olByValue,
    Type.Missing,
    Type.Missing );
    var attachment2 = attachments.Add(
    @". . . .", (int)OlAttachmentType.olByValue,
    Type.Missing,
    Type.Missing );
    oMailItem.Send();
    Marshal.ReleaseComObject( attachment2
    Marshal.ReleaseComObject( attachment1
    Marshal.ReleaseComObject( attachments
    Marshal.ReleaseComObject( recipient );
    Marshal.ReleaseComObject( recipients
    Marshal.ReleaseComObject( oMailItem );
    Marshal.ReleaseComObject( outlookApplication
    Check (with Debugger) that the files are removed at the end of this fragment.
    Also consider creating a single outlookApplication before the loop.

  • Can't rename a single file to autorun.inf even all ntfs permissions are correct

    I have this odd problem:
    Logged in as Domin Administrator I couldn't  rename or open for editing an existing file "autorun.inf" even though all the ntfs permissions were correct. Every other files in the same directory (mainly .swf, .docx, .js and .htm files)
    are both editable and can be renamed.
    When I deleted the file "autorun.inf" from the folder and tried to create a new one with the same name, OS (Windows Server 2008 R2) notifies me that I "need permission to perform this action". Furthermore OS notifies me that "You
    require special permission from Administrators to make changes to this file". Neither can I copy a file named "autorun.inf" from another location to this folder. This is in spite of being logged in as Domain Admin.
    In short: I can't create a file called autorun.inf in a folder!
    Could  there be some kind of extra locking concerning files named autorun.inf i.e. some protective mechanism in this particular folder's permissions or SRV2008R2 itself that I've missed. All the other folders allow me to create whatever files i like
    into them.
    I would very much appreciate if anybody can help me with this.

    Yes, by default that will block any access to autorun.ini files. We use the same, so the issue sounded familiar, and of that I asked specificly to that :)

  • BPC Detail error/reject log not created in the PrivatePub/user/temp folder

    Hi,
    We have a custom import package that imports data from a comma seperated txt file in to BPC. If all the data members in the data file are valid dimension members the package is successful and the package log file is created in the PrivatePub/user/Temp folder. But if there are any rejects the reject log is not getting created under the temp folder and moreover the package status is "Error". The package log is created but the reject log is not. The Webfolders has the full share permissions.
    The same package runs fine in our Test environment and creates the package log and reject log.
    We are on BPC 5.1 SP3.
    Is there a configuration that is missing.
    Thanks in advance.
    Swaroop

    I'm pretty sure that when you do not explicitly indicate a transformation file, a default file (import.xls I think?) is used.
    Also, there are a number of temp files & variables that must be created in the MODIFYSCRIPT variable, and certain conversion tasks that are part of the standard import process. You can see the proper syntax in the sample import pacakges.
    If you've created a new package of your own, you may be missing some key pieces. If you don't understand what all the pieces are in the sample packages (and why you don't need them), you should start by debugging with one of them, and then see what you need to add back into your package.
    I'd normally recommend to start with the sample import package, and only modify it if necessary, and as little as possible.
    Last thought - file permission... does the user running the package (not the end user logged into BPC, but the BPC data manager user, which I believe is the "USER" (not admin or sysadmin) set up during the server install) have appropriate access rights to that network share where the data file is located? Try changing it to a local path, and copy the test.txt to that location.

  • NTFS permissions - Only access to folders created by the user himself

    Hi,
    I once came by an TechNet article explaining how to set up the NTFS permission on a shared folder, so the users would have rights to create a subfolder, and then only have access to this folder, and none of the co-existing folders on the same level, created
    by similiar users.
    So in details, I have shared a folder called backup$, where the users needs access to create their own subfolder (will be done automatically by a script). And in case they would need to browse their way to the full path, I need to make sure, they won't be
    able to access folders created by other users.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi,
    I am not clear what are the rights you will set through the script for each sub-folder. You can verify, your settings using
    Effective Permission tool.
    You can more about Effective Permissions from the below URLs.

    I'm sorry if my question is not clear. I'm looking for the correct NTFS permissions to set on the shared folder. No permissions are being set in the script.

  • Adobelm_Cleanup.001.dir.* folders in Temp folder?

    I was checking in my Temp folder at C:\Documents and Settings\My User Name\Local Settings and there are 83 folders named Adobelm_Cleanup.001.dir.*, with the * representing a 4-digit number starting with 0000 up to 0082, and Date Modified from 3/3/2008 up to 2/23/2009. There are no files in these folders, so I'm guessing they are not currently being used.
    I'm running Acrobat Standard 7.1.0 on XP SP3. I'm not having any problems with Acrobat, just curious if those 83 folders are okay to delete or should I just leave them there?
    Thanks,
    Cyndi
    PS - The only Adobe program I have installed is Acrobat. I don't even have Adobe Reader installed.

    It should be safe to delete any files within your Temp directory. If they are not open and in use, they will be deleted. If they are in use, they won't be deleted, since they will be busy.
