Acrobat X Pro Forms calculations

I'm trying to create a spreadsheet-like form for keeping track of volunteer hours for about 9 people - I want them to input their hours in five or six categories, with columns to the right, a row a the bottom that shows sums. 31 rows that add down, 6 columns that add across two ways.  When I try to click on fields in the calculate sum pick check boxes, only one, maybe two fields can be picked (select all and deselect all both work), either to select or deselect.  Is anyone having this problem and found a solution to it?

Yes, I'm using decimal hours (glad to hear that was the right choice).  So if I'm understanding your answer correctly, I need to click a box, wait for Acrobat to recalculate, then click the next box?   Ouch.
Six columns of 31 rows each to add, plus 31 rows to add across, two different ways, would take a long time to set up, if I can't just click down the list of fields in the Pick box. And I can't.0
Thank you for your time!  I've put some hours of frustration into this already, and I should probably stop, lol, and find a different solution.

  • Unable to select fields in Acrobat XI Pro forms tools/editor to calculate

First, in Acrobat XI Pro forms editor when attempting to calculate fields, I am unable to select the fields (click) to calculate.  I can only select all or deselect all.
Also, if my simple spreadsheet formula is:
    =IF(Value01>0,SUM(Value01*(Value02-Value03)),"")
Is there a straight forward way to translate that formula into a functioning calculating script in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro Forms tools (or FormsCentral)?
    Thanks for any input.

Regarding the calculation, it can be done with a script. This is a good place to start learning about such scripts in Acrobat:

  • How can I best analyze data that were collected in an Acrobat XI Pro form in a variety of ways?

I would like to analyze the data that I collect using an Acrobat XI Pro form using a variety of numerical and statistical methods.  I assume the first step would be to export the data to a program such as Microsoft Excel.  I am wondering if there are any free or inexpensive programs I can use to perform the analyses.  i have SPSS, but I am looking for something free or inexpensive that my colleagues can use.

Yes, you can export the data as a tab-delimited text file, which you can then process in Excel.
What you do after that point is not really related to the subject of this forum.

  • Acrobat 8 Pro Form Won't Save on a Mac

I created a form in Acrobat 8 Pro for Windows (version 8.2.5) and enabled Reader features. A user reports to me that she can complete and print but not save the form on her Macbook. What's up with this? What am I doing wrong??

No, she downloaded Adobe Reader X for Mac. I'm not familiar with macs at all, but one of our tech support people helped her install it and reboot.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - Form Toolbar

There has been a big change from Acrobat 8 Pro to 9 Pro regarding how the forms toolbar is displayed.  While the changes are a great improvement to make it easier to create forms...I am having trouble adjusting to editing forms.  Is there any way to have the forms toolbar display on the regular view so that you do not have to keep going to the button to click add/edit forms and then get a new screen.  I just want to work from the same view and not have to go back and forth when I am working on a form that is already created.  I thought maybe it would be a "right click" or some kind of preference but so far I cannot find any way to change this.  I would appreciate any help!

    Thank you for the response.
Do you know what the logic was to make such a dramatic change - since all the previous versions of Acrobat permitted the forms toolbar in the regular view?  They must have thought this format was better.  Any ideas?

  • Acrobat 9 Pro form problem

I've created a form in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and it works well. It's a survey form. The problem is when I set the form using "Extend Features with Acrobat Reader", the reader version of the form "remembers" past entries for fields which require free form entries. I've tried using "Clear Form" and then saving the document as another version, but when I open it up with Reader, and I click on the free form fields, I get a drop down of previous entries into those fields.
So, how do I clear this information out of the Acrobat file once and for all?

Is it tunred off for the Reader installation or in your Acrobat installation. It doesn't matter what your Acrobat settings are when it's used by someone else with Reader.
Recent versions of Acrobat/Reader do not cache form data in the way mentioned by GKaiseril. This used to happen when a form was viewed in a browser.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro form distribution problem (Enhanced Security?)

I am trying to distribute an Acrobat Pro form to several individuals who happen to be listed in my Outlook 2003 Address Book. When I type an email address into the "To" section of the form distribution pane, Acrobat automatically converts the email address to the recipient's name, which I can only assume is being accessed throughthe Outlook Address Book. Is there any way to isolate Acrobat Pro from my address book? Would changing the Acrobat preferences for "Security (Enhanced)" and un-checking "Automatically trust sites from my Win OS security zones" keep Acrobat from accessing my Outlook address book?

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Forms - Limited Document Editing Features

    Hi
I am unable to delete pages from a pre existing pdf document.  Using the pull down menu in Document Design mode all sub menu  features are disabled (greyed out). I haved changed Edit-Preferences to 'View docs in PDF/A mode to Never. But this does not solve the problem.  File-Properties-Security shows there are NO restrictions.  All features are 'Allowed'.  It is possible to edit the document by adding form objects.
    Hope somebody can help.
    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi
Many thanks for your response. However, it appears by way of trial and error the features which I referred in my post are not available in 'Form Editing' mode in Acrobat 9 pro.Once this application environment is closed the full rage of Document-Sub menu features become available.  So my post this was down to lack of experience using the new application - but wasnt clear in the'How To' book I purchased!  Nevertheless, thanks for your help.  I am now self learning Life Cycle Designer as a way of creating 'E-Worksheets' for my learners (I am in the education sector).  The original problem related to an examination paper (in PDF format) I was converting for similar use but needed to delete superflous pages.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Forms Not Calculating on any MAC platform?

Neither basic calculations (multipying the value of two fields) or javascripted fields function on any MAC platform (so far tested MAC 10x and IPad).  Everything runs flawlessly on every PC tested.  Form is accurate, no javascript errors.  Replicating fields does work on the MAC (typing "NAME" into the field on page 1 correctly replicates the NAME field on page 2 & 3.)  Only the math seems to be an issue.  Help!!!

Wow, you are indeed correct.  Here is what we just discovered:
    Snow Leopard (10.6.8)
If you open the file in READER it works fine.
If you open the file in PREVIEW nothing happens when you enter values in any QTY field.  When you close the file in PREVIEW you are presented with the option to save.  If you save the file it gets corrupted and will not display in READER.  If you do not save the file you can open it in READER and it works fine.
    Lion (10.7.2)
If you open the file in READER it works fine.
If you open the file in PREVIEW nothing happens when you enter values in the QTY field.  When you close the file in PREVIEW you are NOT presented with the option to save.  The file somehow gets corrupted and will not display in READER.
I guess the bottom line is that interactive PDF forms are real challenges for MAC users.  At this point the only way to assure MAC users get a working file is to point them to a non-interactive form that they must print, manually fill out then scan or fax back to us.
Thank you so much for your help George.  This has been by far the quickest and smoothest problem resolution process I have experienced with literally any software manufacturer!  I'm less than pleased about the outcome, but your part worked beautifully and we all now know exactly what the problem is.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - Form Wizard isn't detecting form fields?

    Hi there,
I've been scouring various forums, blogs, etc. to find an answer to my problem, and have yet to be successful.  Here it is:
I've created a form in Illustrator CS5 using the rectangle shape tool to indicate form fields.  I need users to be able to enter information in each of the specified fields.  I've saved the file as a .PDF and have opened it into Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  I then select "Start Form Wizard" from the Forms menu, and after making the appropriate selections it tells me: "No new form field annotations were detected." and then prompts me to the form editing page.  I've also tried simply selecting "Add or Edit Fields" from the Forms menu and the same thing happens - it isn't detecting any form fields.
The only time the Form Wizard or Add or Edit Fields options work is if I use underlines instead of boxes as the form fields, but I'd really prefer to use the boxes since they lend themselves to the aesthetics of the document much better.
I'm new to converting Illustrator files into interactive .PDFs, so I'm not sure what I should be doing.  The background color of the document is grey and the boxes are white with no outline (I tried it with an outline around the boxes and it still didn't work).  Any advice would be much appreciated!  Thanks.
    Beth

    Hi Beth
How big are  these fields? Are they for entering text or just check boxes?
I have found that sometimes FormWizard is not compatible with some Quark files.
Sounds like it might be easier for you to do the fields manually.
First draw the field like you want it and set that as the default then you can choose to paste multiple fields.
Also if you want to use a line for FormWizard you can make the background of the field white and cover the line with it.

  • Acrobat 7 Pro - form won't submit via email, and data won't submit either

Hi. I am trying to create a form for end users at my website to be able to open the form in Reader, enter their data in the form, and click on the "Submit" button to email it back to me (or any other way it can come back would be okay... as long as I can get the data).
In doing some research on program software needed to do this, I came to the conclusion I needed to have the Adobe suite (Acrobat Pro 7, Distiller 7, and Designer 7), and so I spent a lot of money obtaining this software. I also have just downloaded Reader 9.0 (the most recent).
    Here are some particulars:
    1. Following directions Ive found on Adobe online, and the Help files as well as in this forum, in the form (in Designer), I have the Submit button going to a URL of mailto:[email protected].
    2. I've saved the form as a Static PDF Form File in Designer. Things are going well.
    3. The form works great in PDF Preview all form fields are setup and act correctly. Super!
    4. I FTP my file to the appropriate website, where once the link to the form is clicked the form opens (in Reader) for my users. Perfect!
    5. The user then opens the form, and before they start to fill it out, a popup shows this:
Sending Data Fields By Email. Please note: This form contains an email submit button. Clicking this button will email a data file containing data you type into this form. However, the form itself will not be sent. Remember, you cannot save a completed copy of this form with Adobe Reader 9
Then you have the option to Dont show again and a button to Close.
    6. After clicking Close, the user is then able to fill in the fields. These fields are standard fields, nothing exceptional, nothing fancy, just text.
    7. At the end of the form is the Submit button. When a user clicks this, NOTHING happens. Even when you try to do the File/Send thing, the form will send, but none of the data. Im not so happy right now L
    8. In this forum, I now see directions to Reader Enable in Adobe Pro (I do have Adobe Pro). The directions say Advanced/Enable Reader (as in one of the above posts is stated, 'Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader'). However, I do not have an Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader under my Advanced tab. So, continuing to read in other similar posts, I find others dont have this option either so, one question is, where is it??? ;-)
    9. Now I see what appears to be another piece of Adobe software that I need, that is LiveCycle? I think Im getting in over my head, as I dont understand
I am new to all this, and am doing my best, but now Im totally confused. All I want to do is have my measly little form open up and have people fill it in and email it back to me so that I can take that data and work with it.
I run (or am trying to run) a non-profit (i.e., Im paying 100% of the bill) website for local Humane Societies who can facilitate offering online Adoption Applications (this is the form Im trying to make happen). I got the form made, and its fillable its just not being able to be submitted online; and when it DID get submitted (first try or so), it came through with no data, and the .xml file data wouldnt populate.
Bottom line question: Is this, what Im trying to do, feasible or not? Im just a simple soul trying to help out some animals. Im not a programmer, so if thats what it takes I guess Im gonna have to give up and forget it. I only wanted to help make things easer for folks to adopt a pet.
Any help by anyone would be totally and gratefully appreciated. Thank you.
keywords: empty form, form not submitting, can't email form, data not transferring, no data in form, can't submit form, can't submit data

Hi, and thank you for the reply.
I've already spent several hundred dollars on getting Adobe Acrobat software, and was hoping there was some work-around on this? What did people do before LiveCycle for instance when they needed to get data from submitted forms via email?
Please don't misunderstand, but as in my example described above, what can a 3rd party do for me (to enable more 'robust rights') that I can't do myself? I'm trying to figure out if I have the software to do it, paid for the software that is "supposed" to do it, why then I need to pay more money to someone else to make the software do what it's supposed to? I sure don't want to have to pay someone to fix it each time I need to make a change in my form for instance...
I'm confused I guess - I suppose the purpose of my asking on the forum here was to hopefully gain some know-how as how to go about doing this myself vs. paying someone else to do it for me. I want to learn, but just don't know where to start. Or, maybe the software I have just doesn't do what I believed it was capable of doing?
Guidance and/or suggestions from all on this point would be very appreciated. Thank you.

  • Acrobat X Pro Form Edit option greyed out

    Acrobat X Professional running on Win7 32bit.
We are converting a word document into PDF with Acrobat, however after the file is converted the option to Edit Form is greyed out.
The same word document can be converted on other PCs with Adobe X Pro, where the Form Editing tools are available to use.

Do you see other Editing options like Distribute Forms, create etc? Are they all greyed out?
If that is the case- Look for Form (AcroForm.api) under Help->Adobe Acrobat Plug-ins. Is that available?
Check the conversion settings under Preferences-> Convert to PDF-> Select MS word from the list. Look if there is any security set.

  • Acrobat 9 PRO - Forms Tracker Question

    1. When distributing a form via acrobat.com to multiple targets, can I keep email addresses confidential from individual members on the distribution list?
    2. When distributing a form to multiple email addresses simultaneously, is it possible to create a distribution file for each email address on distribution (vs. just 1 file)?
    3. Is there a way to create a more meaningful distribution file name than simply file + "0001"? For example, can I use information about the distribution targets (e.g. email address) to name the file?
    4. Is there any tickler functionality (e.g. If I haven't heard from this person in 7 days, remind me)?

I would also love answers to these questions.
Livecycle and acrobate seem pretty useless whenit comes to tracking and creating unique IDS for form distribution - they expect you to buy Livecycle ES and runa server!
Also there seems to be no documentation about the Javascript(?) that is added when you use the distribution wizard, such as the askuseridentity and askemailclient methods - You would have thought that this would be the basis for at least a tutorial! see below.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Forms

    Hello
I have created some very nice forms using the trial version of Acrobat 9 but before I purchase the full version I need to know the following.
The forms look very good but when information is entered on them on another PC the user only get the option to print the form.  I want them to save the document and then send as an attachment. Why can't they do this?
1, I have saved the form as a pdf should i be doing something else
2, is it because it is a trial version
3, Can all versions of Acrobat Reader view and enter the required information on a form ( we use version 7).
I did ask Adobe Support these questions before purching a site licence for upto 3000 people but they will not support the trial version.  That responce make me think I should now look else where for a similar cheaper product.
    Thank you
    Ken

    Ken
One thing to keep in mind is that there are strict usage limits to these type of enabled forms. The basics are, you can send each form to 500 people and they submit it to you an indefinite amount of times OR, you can send it to an indefinite amount of people but can only collect the data 500 times. I mention this because it sounds like you have quite the large staff and it would be easy to exceed the limits.
