Acrobat X1 crashing on Mac OS 10.10.2 and crashing...and crashing...
It's been bad (ever since my free trial was over and I actually bought the thing ) but now it's just crashing every 10 minutes or so, sometime ever 3. Anything I try to do besides just read (search, highlight, copy, really anything) will set it off. When I open it again the documents it offers me as "recent" are things I read 2 or 3 weeks ago--not sure what that means. Please someone help, I'm going crazy and I'm on a deadline! I know I'm not posting this to the right place, but the right place is oh so helpfully read only...so....Thanks!

Is it happening with all the PDF ' or any specific one ?
You face this challenge while trying to launch a PDF or while editing it as well?
What exact version of Acrobat version are you using?If it is not Acrobat 11.0.10 ,you can try updating it to the same and see if that helps.
Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help>Check for Updates.
You can try downloading this patch as well and see if this fixes the issue.

New problems with Acrobat 11.03 for Mac
I'm having new problems with my Adobe Acrobat 11.03 for Mac. These issues are relatively new and did not occur when I first bought the product about 9 months ago.
1) When scanning documents from an HP scanner into Adobe on my Mac, the scanning works fine, but a multi-page document (scanned as one) is saved as a separate PDF for each page. Bothersome to then have to combine all those separate files into one doc. I can do it, just don't think I should have to take the time.
2) Occasionally, when working in Adobe, the menu bar at the top will disappear when I click on the Adobe icon or a previously saved PDF. Very frustrating. Can't make a note or save the document without knowing the shortcuts, as the menu has disappeared. Once I click somewhere outside Adobe, the menu bar reappears for the other programs. This happens over and over.
Any ideas?

Acrobat X and XI crash on Mac cured by waiting
I just want to record this here in case it helps anyone else. I'm afraid that it is not well-structured or technically detailed but I hope that the bare bones might be useful to another user in the same situation. I know it sounds unlikely but it is what happened.
I had Acrobat X, installed with CS6, on my Mac. It worked fine till a couple of weeks ago when it abruptly stopped. This may have been after an OS upgrade or a product upgrade but unfortunately I am not sure.
The sympoms of the problem were that Acrobat, whether started on its own or through opening a PDF, would seem OK for a short period (~5-10s) then freeze. I would get the spinning beachball thing and there would be no recovering from it - I would eventually have to force-quit Acrobat. Once this behaviour started Acrobat no longer ran successfully at all - I had many attempts, and left it for a while (maybe 10 - 15 minutes) on several occasions but without effect. I looked for help online but didn't see anything which seemed to match my problem. I didn't yet consult Adobe TS but that was an intended step ...
I then saw Acrobat XI announced so I thought, great, I will just upgrade and leave the software crash behind. No such luck - the problem continued exactly as before. Annoying? Yes!
Then one day recently I attempted to start Acrobat and got the beachball as usual. I was then trying to download a very large video file and I left the machine running and never got round to forcing Acrobat to quit. By the time I returned to the Mac after work and a couple of evenings out, Acrobat had been running for about 36h. When then I moved (or maybe clicked?) the mouse Acrobat popped up a question about did I want to upgrade certificates or something to that effect? (Sorry, I was so flummoxed that I didn't note it down or screengrab it.) I said no (I didn't really understand the question and do not as far as I know use certificates with Acrobat so it seemed a safeish bet) and it disappeared, leaving Acrobat running flawlessly. This it has been doing ever since, with multiple restarts of the programme and the OS in between - it does not seem to have the problem at all any more, no matter what I do to it, and I seem to have absolutely normal running restored. I am very pleased and relieved.
I know that this is a pretty irritating and vague account - sorry but it's all I've got. I am not necessariy advocating a 36h soaktest for all software faults; I have no idea what was really going on here, whether the certificates business was exactly as it looked, or was perhaps masking (or a side-effect of) something else, or what ... I just know that the very long wait, implausible though it sounds, seems to have sorted out my software problem, permanently. I post it here on the remote off-chance that someone with the same problem might see it, try it, and find it useful.

I I just ant to record this II have to update this for the sake of completeness and to avoid misleading people.
I thought that the above had sorted it out: however, the problem came back and was then completely intractable - I could no longer do anything with it at all.
In the end after trying quite a few other solutions I backed up, removed and recreated my user account. This fixed this problem, and a couple of other software issues besides. It was not without pain, and I would advocate great care and/or expert help in doing this, but it is nice to have my programs working properly again.

Acrobat Pro XI for Mac crashed and now says trial is over
Earlier today I downloaded and installed Acrobat Pro XI for Mac on my MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch early 2013 running OS X 10.9.4. I compared two documents. While skimming the comparison document, Acrobat seemed unstable, e.g. when I tried to select text to copy Acrobat would freeze and show the spinning pinwheel for a minute or two. When I finished skimming the comparison, I closed the file, and clicked "don't save," it crashed. When I restarted Acrobat, it told me the evaluation period was over.

It is unlikely for an application crash to eliminate the trial days usage.

The Adobe Forums do not offer file attachments. But there are sites you can use to upload and share your files. One such site is Adobe's Workspaces. Here are instructions for uploading a file to Workspaces and adding a link to the document to your message:
1. Go to https://workspaces.acrobat.com/ and sign-in with your Adobe ID to the Workspaces service.
2. Create an account if you don't have one.
3. Then login to the website.
4. In top left corner you will see a button called Upload.
5. Click on browse and select the file you want to upload.
6. After Uploading, mouse over on the uploaded file. Click the down arrow button and choose Share document.
7. Then you will be prompted a popup window at the lower left corner. Choose "Publish it" option.
8. In the next pop up window choose "Copy Link" option.
9. You can paste the link in the forum thread. -

I have a Big Problem with Adobe Photoshop CS 2 under Mac Os 10.4.11.
When i click the Photoshop CS2 Icon then Adobe Photoshop crashes.
I delete all file in Preferences and Library and reinstall Adobe Photoshop CS2 - its the same Problem.
I don´t can Use Adobe Photoshop CS2.
Note: Indesign CS2 has no Problems - its running well.
Who can Help me????I'm having the EXACT same problem. I don't know what to do as I use this in my business daily. None of my other programs....GoLive, Illustraor, InDesign are all fine. Surely we can't be the only 2 people that this has happened too.
THEN tried calling Adobe... worthless. They only help if someone upgrades to cs4 or 5. That means spending MORE money to upgrade your version of the computer this all after spendin $250 on their Creative Suites package. Bunch of BULL CRAP. -
I am using the Adobe Acrobat Reader on a mac and I followed all the directions to copy an image but when I press paste only half of the image appears or it appears as an empty square. What can I do to fix this?

I would like to inform you that not all the browsers and online PDF readers support copying text from a PDF. If you have opened the PDF online, please download PDF file to your computer and then open the file in Adobe Reader.

My Mail program is suddenly crashing and giving me the report-problem window. It did work great before this. I'm running 10.9 on a 13 inch Mac Airbook with 8 gb of ram and 1.8 Ghz chip. Any ideas what to do to get my mail program working again?

My old mac was requested to upgrade Firefox to 14.0.1. After the sucessfully installation, I received a message saying my old Mac couldn't use the new Firefox and Safari crashes. I have NO browser now! Any help would be appreciated.
Hmmm... So you upgraded Firefox and now neither Firefox or Safari will work? Very weird. I have no idea what might have gone wrong. That said, when things start acting wierd, I always try a bit of maintenance first. About 95% of the time, I luck out and it works.
I use the free program Onyx. I run all the clean up routines. Then I boot to the recovery partition (Lion) or the OS X Install Disc and repair permissions and verify/repair the hard disk.

Why can't I download trial for Acrobat Pro on my Mac?
Why can't I download trial for Acrobat Pro on my Mac? I get an error message. I click the download: "Install Adobe Download Assistant", then click on it, see Adobe AIR application instaler, then get "Sorry, and error has occurred. This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance." If I knew who the application author was, I'd contact him! Experience Scanning with Acrobat 9 on a Mac
Friends asked for a copy of a 4-page document we'd used in a study group. I'll just scan it in with Acrobat! Then we have the benefits of its being electronic. Plus it'll give me a chance to try out Acrobat 9, which I just got, and scanning on my Mac (on Windows until recently).
Why it took me an hour to scan the document:
Acrobat can assemble a PDF file from scanned pages and OCR it. I'll just scan in this four page doc and send it out as PDF. Simple, right?
Bring up the Acrobat panel to Create PDF From Scanner, and it says to select a scanner. There are none on the list. Hmm.
When I set up my Mac a few weeks ago I tested and was able to scan. Maybe it's because my printer/scanner is now plugged in via TimeCapsule rather than directly as before. Can my Mac see it? How do I know? Can it see the printer device--perhaps both printer and scanner don't come online at the same time. Bring up Sys Prefs, it shows a green light by the TimeCapsule-connected printer. Ah, but it did that yesterday even though it could NOT print to it. Bring up the Print Queue for that printer and click Utility. ...scanning for printers...found none. Do I believe that? Try printing to it. It works. Finding none doesn't mean it isn't working.
Try plugging the printer/scanner directly into the Mac. No difference.
Follow the "maybe scan is different from printing" thought. Where is the System Prefs for Scan/Fax? Doesn't seem to be one. Maybe it's just TWAIN drivers. How was it I tested scanning initially? Search [Finder] for scanner. Nothing obvious. Futz around a bit. Ah, it was Image Capture.
Image Capture CAN see the scanner. So I could scan in by hand to separate files and assemble in Acrobat. Sure would be easier if Acrobat had control of the scanner as it [presumably] knows more about what it needs re scan settings. Search Internet for problem. Aha, found it on the third hit. The Epson TWAIN (scan) driver must not be Universal binary. Acrobat sees only Mac Universal binaries.
Check Adobe documentation to see if there's a way around this. None found. They don't even acknowledge the Universal binary requirement when talking about Mac.
So, scan separate pages using Image Capture. Ahh. The document's printed on really thin paper so type from the back side is bleeding through, badly. How can I adjust the contrast on the scanner to compensate? Nothing obvious. What if I tell Image Capture it's Text? No, that just seems to change Bit Depth to 1. Changing it back to 8 causes the Document type to be Photo. Well, at least there's a setting for B&W Photo.
Scan to TIFF files (the default). Go into Acrobat and create a PDF from the four TIFFs. Run OCR. Hmm. Still looks awful because of bleed through in image--OCR just adds invisible (selectable, searchable) text on top, without discarding image--and file size is rather large. It's good enough, but now I'm curious as I've had better results with this in the past with Acrobat 8 on Windows, though it's been so long I can't remember exactly how.
Back to the Internet to read about OCR in Acrobat 9. Ahh. I think they phased out the previous method I used and replaced it with "ClearScan", a new technology which creates Type 3 approximation fonts on the fly and places those visible on top with the scanned image, greatly compressed (and de-skewed) underneath. They recommend scanning at 300 dpi (I'd used whatever the default was, 150 I think).
OK. Try scanning again. Set to 300 dpi. Hmm. Must be SOME way to change the contrast to correct the bleed through. Ahh. It's set to "Image Correction: None". I'd missed that before--my bad. Try "Manual". I get a control panel. No contrast but I can affect brightness separately in Dark, Midtones, and Light. Turning up Light does it. Scan all the pages again. Bleed through is gone (as seen in Preview windows that pop up).
Go into Acrobat and recreate the PDF from the TIFFs. Well, it won't let me see the files. I scanned them into /tmp. (I've set up a symlink of /tmp to /FinderVisibleRoot/tmp (along with other hidden / dirs).) tmp is greyed out though not others in that dir. Futz around a bit trying other operations which open a file panel, come back, and now tmp's not greyed out. Sigh.
Create the PDF from the TIFFs. Looks exactly like before, bleed through and all. WTF? Check the TIFFs in Preview--as expected; no bleed through. Perhaps something got cached. Close and restart Acrobat and try again. Same result.
The Image Capture adjustment to Brightness must not have changed the actual scan but some meta data stored in the TIFF. ??
Where can I tell Acrobat to honor that? There are no options when I open files to be combined to create the PDF. "Try again, Luke." Nope.
Let's try just one file at a time with Create PDF From File. Same problem. The files panel for opening those files DOES have a Settings... button, but it's greyed out. It's set to "All Types", which includes TIFF. What if I change it to just TIFF? AHA!! Now the Settings... button is active. Not obvious to me (I get why, given multiple types could be selected, but my gosh).
Now I can control how Acrobat changes the incoming TIFFs (I'm guessing PDF doesn't support TIFF directly so converts to JPEG, CCITT, etc.). Not exactly sure how conversion works so futz with a few of what I imagine are the obvious options. No effect. Hmm.
Ah. Maybe Image Capture (or the driver) is actually creating a color profile to affect the image adjustments I made, and embedding that in the TIFF. Can color profiles be put in TIFFs? I didn't think so. Turns out they can. And retaining embedded profiles was turned on in the conversion settings by default for all image types EXCEPT greyscale. :-) Turn it on for greyscale and try again. Voila!
OK. Go back to Merge Files Into Single PDF to do all the pages. Oops. There's no Settings... option where I can tell it to keep the embedded profiles. Sigh. Use Create PDF From File for each page then merge those.
Now run OCR with ClearScan on the resulting PDF, and keep only very low resolution of original scan. Result is a small (196K for 4 pg), clean looking, fully searchable document!
The on-the-fly Type 3 fonts it created aren't great (flaws visible when zoomed). I think an older technology we had at Adobe of trying to match scanned chars to available fonts stands a better chance for high fidelity (and this may still be avail in a non-ClearScan option). However, I still like the new ClearScan technology for some uses like this, where fidelity isn't such an issue.
Hopefully, the Universal binary problem on Mac with Acrobat will go away at some point (when I get a new printer? ) so I'll just be able to scan directly into PDF. And Adobe will need to add Settings for Merge Files Into A Single PDF to control color profile handling, etc.

I read there are Acrobat app-wide conversion settings for importing different file types. If I set Preferences/Convert To PDF/TIFF settings, it affects files specified to Merge Files Into A Single PDF. It's still inconsistent that I specify it one way for Create PDF From File and another for Merge Files Into A Single PDF, but at least it can be done. -
Flash 8 Pro Keeps Crashing My Mac
Almost every day I have a total freeze crash of my eMac (OS
10.3.9) while working in Flash 8 Pro. (Sometimes mouse will
continue to move, though uselessly, sometimes not even that.) Can't
even do a keyboard force quit of Flash. Only recourse is to power
down.
I have recently done Disk Utility repairs, Disk Warrior
re-directory repairs, and ran TechTool, which could find no fault
with Mac. Problem still kept occuring. So I did an Archive and
Install on the Mac. But the problem keeps reoccuring.
Has anyone on Mac had similar similar problems? (I did
searches--here and generally on web with Google--nuthin'.)

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful. -
Crashes on Mac side when running Win7 64 bit in bootcamp as VM in Parallels
I got my MacBookPro mid April 2010. Microsoft store partitioned & set up bootcamp with Win7 64 bit. I then Purchased Parallels 5 & set it up using the bootcamp partition as the Virtual machine. Not knowing what I was doing at 1st, I accidentally created a 2nd VM the 1st time I tried to use it & didn't know how to get rid of it until a couple weeks ago.
It was all working pretty well until about Feb 19 when I was at the office trying to take notes in Pages. I had just started when it started alternating between Pages, desktop & blue screen then pages quit. Same when I reopened pages so just shut down & an hr or so later was ok. Over a period of about a wk rapidly increasing # of crashes of Safari & Pages to where it was becoming hard to use. Went to Genius bar who told me to do archive & install after back up. Had to go research & buy back up HD & before I could back up it got so bad it wouldn't even boot. Apple care helped me do Archive & install over the phone. Much better but still problems. Fri he checked back & had me reset Safari & empty Safari & other caches. Then Parallels crashed. So shut down & booted into bootcamp. It was also messed up.
Then remembered the old, if all else fails trick of shutting it down & leaving it for a bit to clear out the volatile memory. Came back & booted into bootcamp & opened Outlook etc. Ok. Then booted into Mac & then parallels & it was ok.
But problems continued. Repaired preferences, etc. I also found out that i didn't have the latest build of Parallels 5 (from the Parallels user forums) even though the update process said I did. They seemed rather techie. I finally did figure out how to download & install the latest build of Parallels. Not sure if that helped or why the check update from the pull down menu acted like it was checking & then told me I had the latest one but mine was several builds older than the current 1.
Along the way, I finally learned how to delete the duplicate VM & it worked better for awhile, but then was getting bad. I verified the disk in Disk utility & it stopped almost immediately & said it needed to be repaired. Genius bar did that.Erase & install was mentioned. then more crashes, more problems so again verified disk & it ran longer but again stopped & said repair needed. Went into Genius bar on 3-25 for erase & install. Got it back next day but I think maybe the genius (who I had asked to help set up bootcamp partition) restored more than just the users which is what the head genius had said was the only thing to restore. Not sure, but it appears my new settings are showing. & it appears that whatever was corrupted may have been restored as well, not sure. Made another appt for genius bar to help get things right.
The tests that were run showed that the hardware was ok. Several people told me while this was going on that it was likely related to running Windows on a mac & especially as a VM, & then someone or 2 also mentioned that running in coherence mode could be an issue.
This whole thing has been very frustrating & isn't what I expected after coming back to mac, but still needing to run windows for business software. My old macs never had problems. My brother said his macs are reliable & don't have problems.
When it got so that I couldn't even boot on the mac side the 1st time, I was able to boot into bootcamp & had to do drag & drop backup of mac files to my windows external HD. But before & after that when Safari was crashing so much it wasn't very useful, I did better in IE running in Parallels.
What I'm wondering is what might have caused this & more specifically, what can I do to avoid it happening again? A major reason that I use Parallels all the time is that I sync a windows mobile 6,5 phone with Outlook so its not very convenient to have to boot into bootcamp to check email.
The fingers have been pointed at maybe the partition getting messed up but no real answers so far. So while I assume we will get it working ok again, I'm afraid the same thing could happen again. It was suggested that it may have been doing little things kind of behind the scenes where it was getting corrupted a little bit by little bit which didn't show up until the rapidly cascading events that lead to the erase & install. So I don't know if that was the case or if something happened around Feb 19 when I first really noticed the problems (although there may have been some unexpected quits before then, but not bad or repeated). Thanks for the info/suggestions. I had already done the "clean install" without knowing it. I also had uninstalled Firefox and Chrome and was looking at dumping Safari, but I found the culprit file "_Flash Player.plugin" (version10.2.151.49) on a search for "Flash Player" under Spotlight.
Strange thing was the file did not appear when just browsing through the various directories or searching with finder. Removed it and all is good.

After installing new iLife, the folder containing all photos in "2007" disappeared, leaving 2004-2006 OK. Also, cannot access or attach iPhoto photos from desktop as before. Am rebuilding now to see if that makes a difference. Any suggestions?
