ACS user authenticating through Windows Database

Please, i need a document/ guideline on how to configure ACS 4.2 user authenticating through Windows Database and the ACS server is running on an appliance.

Hi,
If you delete the user in AD, then it would not authenticate the user even if the dynamic mapped user exists in the ACS database, as the password would not be verified from the AD for the user.
The dynamically mapped user entry would still exist in ACS and would not get deleted if the user is deleted from AD.

Has anyone setup an ACS Server 3.2 for MAC authentication using Windows as the authentication. The documentation I found shows how to set it up using the CiscoSecure database. Any help would be appreciated.

Cisco Secure ACS 4.1 with Windows Database

I have ACS 4.1 integrated with Windows Database (check mark in allow Remote DialIn).
When we terminate a employee do I have to also delete their ACS User Profile?
If I delete the user in AD will they automatically delete the user in ACS?
Where can I read more about this?

SAP User Authentication via Windows Active Directory

The non-profit company I work for as an SAP Security Admin has been using SAP since 1999. We are currently running ECC 6.0, BI 7.0, and CRM 7.0. With fewer than 300 SAP users, we have not implemented CUA, so each of our multiple clients in these systems is managed independently.
The company recently licensed and implemented some non-SAP software to be used by all of our employees (~1200) in keeping track of & catagorizing their work time; a very handy feature of this software is that it depends upon Windows Active Directory for user authentication. Therefore, each employee logs into this time-keeping package by entering his/her standard PC userID & password. If you can log onto your PC, you can log into the time-keeping software.
That got me thinking & researching, because our SAP users - especially those who have access to three or more SAP clients - must maintain their passwords independently in each SAP client that they hope to access in the future. I'm certainly not the first person who has thought of how nice it would be to permit SAP users to log into all SAP clients across the landscape in which they have defined userIDs, using the same password that they are using to log into their PCs (i.e., the password that is stored & maintained in Windows Active Directory). My quest has led me to find presentations on this topic that typically involve modules we aren't using & very complicated configurations that we really lack the time & resources to employ; or, to third-party solution providers who claim to be certified SAP partners who would love to sell us more software to provide this convenience, usually irelated to single sign-on, LDAP, etc. The lowest pricing tier for such software usually would cover many times the number of SAP users we have to serve here - and it feels like trying to push in a tack using a sledgehammer. It is true that we have not used the same userID for our PCs that we have defined in SAP, so there would need to be some way to translate from one to the other, but our PC password rules are consistent with those we have configured in SAP clients, so it seems to me it should be very simple. Can anyone lead me to a more straightforward solution? If not, can you articulate why this has to be so complicated using SAP software when it seems so simple using relatively inexpensive timekeeping sotware?

Once installed, yes. This is all you need to maintain when users are added. You can even use LDAP if you like to sync all user info between SAP and MS AD domain, but this cannot sync the password, so using SNC authentication instead of using SAP passwords is ideal.

Yes, that is correct. The mapping is maintained using standard SAP user management, such as su01. The user in AD domain might have long account name, e.g. "firstname.verylonglastname" which is too big for use as a SAP username so you can map this long AD account name onto a SAP user called FIRSTLAST in one or more SAP clients.

How to do user authentication through manually access sql user database

I have a table of user accounnts in sql, by using tomcat jsp, how can I authenticate users by manually accessing user account in sql ??

What is there to do?
- Display page asking for username/password
- retrieve typed in user name password
- run query on database - something like "select userid from users where username = ? and password = ?"
- if a record is returned, you have got a user - forward control to the correct jsp. If not, then it is incorrect - go back to the login page with an error message.
- Normally on successful login you add something into the session (eg a user object) so you can tell if someone is logged in or not by looking for that object.
Whats hard about any of this?

User authentication through cx module

Hi,
I am using cx module in ASA for context aware security. I want to also enable authentication for Internet users who pass through cx module and that authentication must be from active directory.
Can anyone please guide or share any document which tells how to configure cx for it? Thanks a lot.

Bypass user authentication

We have setup Proxy 3.6 for user authentication through LDAP (using Directory Server 5.1). We need to bypass authentication for certain URLs. While we have achieved this using regular expressions, there are some sites using images, scripts etc from other external URLs and so we get prompted to enter username/password. Of course we can create new regex for these external URLs also, but the question is: if there is a more elegant way to avoid this i.e. when we visit such a URL to get all the content without bothering about external links etc.

This is not a security leak but a configuration issue. If the client utility and the ACS, ADS database is correctly configured then you will not see any issues.

Machine authentication with Windows 7

I'm doing user and machine authentication with ISE.
I use a first authorization rule to authenticate the machine against the AD. If it's part computers of the domain.
Then I use an authorization rule to check if the user's group in AD with the credential he used to open the session + "Network Access:WasMachineAuthenticated = True"
Things seems to be working and I see my switch port is "Authz Success" but shortly after the Windows 7 machine is behaving like 802.1X authentication fails. The little computer on the bottom right has a cross on it.
If I disable and enable again the network card of that windows machine it works.
Does any one of you have an idea about this problem ? something to tweak on Windows 7 like timers...

Hi Mika. My comments below:
a) You told me that MAR ("Network Access:WasMachineAuthenticated = True") has some drawbacks. When hibernation is used it can cause problems since the MAC address could have been removed from the cache when the user un-hibernate its computer. Then why not increasing the MAR cache to a value of 7 days then ? Regarding the roaming between wire and wireless it's a problem indeed.
NS: I don't believe that the MAR cache would be affected by a machine hibernating or going to sleep. There are some dot1x related bug fixes that Massimo outlined in his first pos that you should look into. But yes, you can increase the MAR timer to a value that fits your environent
b) You suggest to use one authorization rule for the device which should be part of the AD and one authorization rule for the user with the extra result "IdentityAccessRestricted = False". By the was, are we really talking about authorization rules here ? I will try this but it's difficult for me to imagine how it would really work.
NS: Perhaps there is some confusion here but let me try to explain this again. The "IdentityAccessRestricted" is a check that can be done against a machine or a user account in AD. It is an optional attribute and you don't have to have it. I use it so I can prevent terminated users from gaining access to the network by simply disabling their AD account. Again, that account can be either for a "user" or for a "machine"
z) One question I was asking myself for a long time. All of us want to do machine+user authentication but Windows write Machine OR User Authentication. This "OR" is very confusing.
NS: At the moment, the only way you can accomplish a true machine+user authentication is to use the Cisco AnyConnect supplicant. The process is also known as "EAP-Chaining" and/or "EAP-TEAP." In fact there is an official RFC (RFC 7170 - See link below). Now the question is when and if Microsoft, Apple, Linux, etc will start supporting it:

User authentication in Cisco ACS by adding external RADIUS database

I would like to configure the below setup:
End user client (Cisco Any connect/VPN client) -> ASA 5500 (AAA client) -> ACS server -> External RADIUS database.
Here ACS server would send the authentication requests to External RADIUS server.So, i have added the external user database (RADIUS token server) in
ACS under External databases.I have added AAA client in Network configuration (selected authenticate using RADIUS(VPN 3000/ASA/PIX 7.0) from the drop down.
Here how do i make ASA recognize that it has to send the request to ACS server. Normally when you use ACS as RADIUS server you can add an AAA server in ASA and test it.But here we are using an external RADIUS server which has been configured in ACS, so how do i make ASA to send the requests to ACS server?
Any help on this would be really grateful to me.

As you said nothing needs to be done on ASA side, if we are using an external user database for authentication.
Im a newbie to ACS and this is the first time i'm trying to perform a two factor authenticaton in Cisco ACS using external user database.
By two factor authentication i mean, username + password serves as first factor (validated by RADIUS server), username + security code (validated by RADIUS server) serves as second factor.So, during user authentication i enter only username in username field and in "password" field i enter both "password + security code". Our RADIUS server has already been configured with AD as user store, so we dont have to specify AD details in ACS. I have done the following in ACS to perform this two factor authentication.
-> In external user databases, i have added a external RADIUS token server.
-> In unknown user policy , i have added the external data base that i configured in ACS into the selected databases list.
-> under network configuration, i have added the Cisco ASA as AAA client (authenticate using RADIUS (Cisco VPN 3000/ASA/PIX 7.x+)).
Just to check whether user authentication is successful, i launched the ACS webVPN using https://IP:2002, it asked me to enter username and password. So, i entered username and in password field i entered "password + security code". But, the page throws an error saying "login failed...Try again".I cant find any logs in external RADIUS server.
Here is what i found in "Failed attempts" logs under Reports and activities.

Now My boss want users to be authenticated through an external database (windows AD). I tried achieving this but kept getting different errors.(like EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake) or (Authen session timed out: Challenge not provided by client).

User in a windows group - mapping to acs group appears not be working

I have a user in a windows group, this windows group is mapped to an ACS group but when the user logs in it appears as default group in ACS.
Any suggestion?

Hello, I recently implemented this very thing, actually integrated it with Authentication Proxy. Here are some settings to check:
1. External User Databases - Database Configuration - Windows Database - Configure
Make sure your domain is listed on moved to the Domain List section
2. External User Databases - Database Group Mappings - Windows Database - - Add Manual Mapping
Make sure you have the right AD group mapped to the internal ACS group, you can even set users* if you want to include all users.
3. External User Databses - Unknown User Policy
Check the "Check the following external user databases" radio dial and move Windows Database to Selected Databases
Check âThe database in which the user profile is heldâ radio dial in the Configure Enable Password Behaviour section

Hi,
802.1x can authenticate hosts either through the username/password or either via the MAC address of the clients (PC's, Printers etc.). This process is called Agentless Network Access which can be done through Mac Auth Bypass.
In this process the 802.1x switchport would send the MAC address of the connected PC to the radius server for authentication. If the radius server has the MAC address in it's database, the authentication would be successful and the PC would be granted network access.

ACS SE multiple windows databases

is it possible to have multiple windows databases on an ACS SE? The problem is, that we need access to two differen domains, that are not trusted and have no super domain.

Hi,
We would require two way external/transitive trust between the two domains.
There are 2 ways to work around our problem:
1. Install another ACS at the remote site/domain and forward all the
requests for the users of remote domain to that ACS.
2. Configure partner domain as LDAP on the ACS (at corp site), this should not require domain trust. The only problem we will have certain authentication methods will not be supported when using ldap.

Machine Authentication and User Authentication with ACS v5.1... how?

I'm having trouble setting up Machine Authentication and User Authentication on ACS v5.1 using WinXP SP3 (or SP2) as supplicant.
This is the goal:
On wireless (preferably on wired too) networks, get the WinXP to machine authenticate against AD using certificates so the machine is possible to reach via for example ping, and it can also get GPO Updates.
Then, when the user actually logs in, I need User Authentication, so we can run startup scripts, map the Home Directory and so on.
I have set up a Windows Sertificate server, and the client (WinXP) are recieving both machine and user certificates just fine.
I have also managed to set up so Machine Authenticaton works, by setting up a policy rule that checks on certificate only:
"Certificate Dictionary:Common Name contains .admin.testdomain.lan"
But to achieve that, I had to set EAP Type in WinXP to Smart Card or other Certificate, and then no PEAP authentication occurs, which I assume I need for User Authentication? Or is that possible by using Certificates too?
I just don't know how to do this, so is there a detailed guide out there for this? I would assume that this is something that all administrators using wireless and WinXP would like to achieve.

I found out how to do this now..
What I needed to do was to add a new Certificate Authentication Profile that checks against Subject Alternative Name, because that was the only thing I could find that was the same in both user certificate and machine certificate.
After adding that profile to the Identity Store Sequences, and making tthe appropriate rule in the policy, it works.
You must also remember to change the AuthMode option in Windows XP Registry to "1".
What I really wanted to do was to use the "Was Machine Authenticated" condition in the policies, but I have never gotten that conditon to work, unfortunately.
That would have plugged a few security holes for me.

Machine +User Auth for windows endpoint autheticating through ISE

Is there any way to use machine + user auth at same time when authenticating Windows machine through ISE. In Windows native supplicant there is option as
1) Machine OR user Auth
2) User Authentication
3) Machine Authentication
4) Guest authentication
I want to give more priveledge access to endpoints where they are joined to AD domain AND the user is logged in using AD credentials.
Is there any way to achieve this functionality ...

With windows you do not have the option, however with ISE 1.1.1 and the latest cisco anyconnect nam supplicant (which is free) has a feature called eap chaining, it uses eap-fast to send the authentication sequence just as you want.
