Ad-hoc QD Questions!!!

Hi,
I have a few questions about Ad-hoc Query Designer which I was asked during a training and I hope very much you can answer them:
1) During Query execution, Internet Explorer doesn't always open a new window. If the query is not saved, it is lost. How can I change this?
2) Why does it not always work to save the query under the same name?
3) In case of two exceptions overlap, which one has priority?
4) Why do I have to select "ALL" in all fields for the definition of the exception?
What is the meaning of that? If I don't select it, no values are hightlighted.
5) In AD HOC, when opening an existing query in order to modify it, data format are modified and prevent good working of the condition.
6) Is it possible to combine two single values in conditions ?
What is the result of such an operation?
7) What is the difference between the sign (egal, different..) at begining of the line and operator (include, exclude) at end of the line?
How to use them?
In which case to use the one or the other?
8) Is it possible to have the current month (variable) automatically displayed in the report in Ad-hoc QD?
9) When saving a BEX Web report in Excel, is it automatically updated according to new data in Infocube?

- queries are locked by transports in the production system and are referenced by 32 character strings called GUIDS - hence it is not possible to save under the same name - you would have to open the same object ( query) under a request and then change the same and push it forward.
4) Why do I have to select "ALL" in all fields for the definition of the exception?
What is the meaning of that? If I don't select it, no values are hightlighted. - if you do not select it -
only the totals are highlighted - enable totals on the report and you will see them highlighted.
5) In AD HOC, when opening an existing query in order to modify it, data format are modified and prevent good working of the condition.

    How can I set up a Bluetooth ad-hoc connection with my Windows 7 pc. My pc only sees the Touchpad as a Bluetooth headset. My pc also is using the default Windows driver for the Touchpad and I can't find a specific one online.   • Quick Ad Hoc UWL Question

    We are working with UWL in an EP6 SP11 environment, but we are not connecting with any backend systems, just using it by creating new tasks (This would be called Ad Hoc Correct?)
    Are we able to create any tasks under the Alerts or Notification categories? Or are these only used when it is connected to another backend system?

    If you are using the room discussion iViews every user will have the option of subscribing to one or more discussion topics. New entries within these will trigger a notification.
    The same applies to changes to documents within folders in KM iViews that users have asked to be notified of (from the relevant folder's hover meny choose details->settings->Subscription).
    When registering a task you can click the 'Show options' link to view notification possibilities. You for example have a choice of: 'Notify on Updates, Completion, and if Overdue'. I am not sure if these show up as alerts or notifications as well as being mailed (if mail server is configured)...

  • [iPhone] Ad Hoc provisioning question

    If I add a new device ID to a provisioning profile to let a new user test my app, do I need to re-download the profile and send it to all my testers? Or keep the same one downloaded (I'm not sure how the devices actually check, if it's over the network or not)?

    I used to be able to make a new provisioning file and anyone with the old provisioning files would still be able to use my new build. But now, the build settings have gotten messed up I believe, and I can't seem to build a new version of the project that anyone with any of my old provisioning files can use. Anyway know what's goin on?

      I have a  question in Ad hoc query report in HR.
    <b>How to:</b> Get a list of the total number of employees included in a particular report at the end of the report. Ex: If i create and run a report for salaried employees, sorted out by company codes, how can i get a sub-total and total no. of employees listed in the report.
    I tried Ranked format, but when you print the report it doesn't retain the report name on the top.

    This can be done using the security for the Infoprovider,  provide the users access to create queries only for that Infoprovider.

  • Ad-Hoc?  Brother Printer config questions

    I just got a Brother MFC-665CW printer. It's working fine through AEBS to print from my iBook and my wife's Wintel laptop. However, some of the cooler functions (like Scanning) won't work. I got them to work via plugging in an ethernet cable (I scan on the printer, the image shows up on my desktop) but it won't work through Airport's USB connection.
    First question: is there a port I can open up on AEBS that would fix this?
    Another option--this printer has WLAN built in. It found my Airport network, and when I put in the WEP key, it connected immediately, but neither my iBook nor my wife's HP notebook can find it.
    The instructions for the Brother say that I'm supposed to "briefly change my WLAN settings in my computer to configure the printer." I.e., I'm supposed to change the settings to an Ad-Hoc network, no WEP, and channel 11.
    Second question: When they say change these setting in my computer, wouldn't I have to change them in the AEBS as well?
    Third question: I can't find any reference in the AEBS control panel or in my Network System Preferences panel about making an "Ad-Hoc" network.
    Any thoughts? Thanks for reading!

    Another option--this printer has WLAN built in. It

    It may have not authenticated correctly.
    What happens if you turn off WEP temporarily, this will determine if it is a WEP issue or something else.
    One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
    In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
    The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
    One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
    Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • Question about building an app for a single ad hoc distribution

    Say I want to build and app and send the app, along with a provisioning profile, to somebody to install via iTunes for beta testing.
    The "Ad Hoc" panel says the following:
    Ad Hoc distribution allows you to share your application with up to 100 iPhone or iPod touch users, and to distribute your application through email or by posting it to a web site or server. To prepare your application, the following steps will need to be completed.
    Create and Download an iPhone Distribution Certificate
    Create and Download an Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile
    Build your application with Xcode
    Share your application file and the Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile with the owner of each device
    Recipients of the application will need to drag the application file and Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile into iTunes, then sync their iPhone to iTunes to install
    My question is, do I have to build the application in the extremely complicated way described in the "distribution" tab which says "only the team agent" can do? Or is that for a mass distribution?
    Can I build my app like I do for the simulator and just send that along with the provisioning profile to the other person by email?
    What is the absolute easiest way of doing this sort of ad hoc distribution?

    Another development device? I don't even have one yet.
    The person I'm developing with has one though.
    It turns out all that needed to be done was:
    (1) Build using the iPhone OS setting instead of the Simulator setting.
    (2) Set the provisioning profile.
    Then using the app and profile, just drop them on top of the apps section in iTune and synch.
    That's all there was too it. I didn't need to use all the 11 steps in the distribution section for just the ad hoc distribution, I'm happy to say!

  • PL/SQL Ad-hoc Reporting Implementation Questions

    Recently, I have been put on a development team that is developing a small reporting module for one of our applications.
    I'm trying to mask the underlying structure from the application by having the application run PL/SQL procedures which return REF CURSORS to the client with the requested data. Right now I'm struggling with how to implement the PL/SQL in the best fashion.
    Since this is a reporting tool the user has many combinations of selections. For example at a high level this application has a combination of multiple dropdowns (4-6), radio buttons, and check boxes. As you can see this results in a high amount of possible combinations that have to be sent to the database.
    Basically, the user chooses the following:
    1. Columns to receive (ie different SELECT lists in the PL/SQL)
    2. Specific conditions (ie different WHERE clauses in the PL/SQL)
    3. Aggregate functions (SUMS, TOTALS, AVERAGES based on #1 and #2)
    4. Trends based on #3.
    So... with that said I see two possibilities:
    1. Create a static query for each combination of parameters (in this case that would most likely result in at least 300 queries that would have to be written, possibly 600+).
    The problem I see with this is that I will have to write a significant amount of queries. This is a lot of front end work that, while is tedious, could result in a better performing system because it would be a parse once, execute many scenario which is scalable.
    The downside though is that if any of the underlying structure changes I have to go through and change tens of queries.
    2. Use DBMS_SQL and dynamically generate the queries based on input conditions.
    This approach (possibly) sacrifices performance (parse once, execute once situation), but has increased maintainability because it is more likely that I'll have to make one change vice a number of changes in scenario 1.
    A downside to this is that, it may be harder to debug (and hence maintain) because the SQL is generated on the fly.
    My questions to all is:
    1. Which is the approach that would best manage maintainability / performance?
    2. Is there any other approaches to using PL/SQL as a reporting tool that I am not thinking of?
    The database is 10.2.0.3, and the 'application' is PHP 5.1 running on IIS 6.

    Ref cursors are an ugly solution (different though in 11g).
    You build a dynamic SQL. It must/should have bind variables. But a ref cursor does not allow you to dynamically bind values to bind variables. You need to code the actual bind variables into the code as part of the open cursor command. And at coding time you have no idea how many bind variables there will be in that dynamic SQL for the ref cursor.
    The proper solution is DBMS_SQL as it allows exactly this. Also one of the reasons why APEX uses this for its report queries.
    The only sensible way to implement this type of thing in PL/SQL is by not trying to make it generic (as one could with DBMS_SQL). Instead use polymorphisms and have each procedure construct the appropriate ref cursor with bind variables.
    E.g.

    Both..
    It depends on when you hand off the device cert versus when your overall dev program status expires, since provisioning profiles for device use have 90 day expires, so the answer is which ever comes first
    But, again, typically, it is the device provisioning cert/profile at 90 days.

  • Question about Entitlements.plist for ad hoc distribution

    I still haven't gotten ad hoc distribution to work, and I don't know the difference or importance of doing an ad hoc distribution with an ad hoc distribution profile vs just providing a development distribution to the device with a development provisioning profile, but....
    In the instructions for the ad hoc distribution build there is one more set of tasks you have to do that you don't seem to have to do for any of the other kinds of builds:
    * Open the project, and select File -> New File -> iPhone OS -> Code Signing -> Entitlements.
    * Name the file “Entitlements.plist". and click ‘Finish’. This creates a copy of the default entitlements file within the project
    * Select the new Entitlments.plist file and uncheck the “get-task-allow” property. Save the Entitlements.plist file.
    * Select the Target, and open the Build settings inspector. In the ‘Code Signing Entitlements’ build setting, type in the filename of the new Entitlements.plist file including the extension.
    What is all that about? And can that be left in the distribution for app store as well? Is there any reason to even do an ad hoc distribution as opposed to just making a development distribution for specified devices?

    If you are only testing the application on your own iPhone (or an iPhone that will always be connected to your development Mac w/ xcode on it), you only need to create a development profile.
    The Ad Hoc profile is useful for:
    .. Beta testers
    .. Giving free copies of your app to friends (so they don't have to buy through the store)
    Basically, it's for distributing release versions of your application to specific iPhones (your friends or beta testers have to give you their iPhone identifier strings). You cannot do this effectively with a development profile.
    And yes, you can leave the entitlement.plist file in your project when you release to the apple store.

  • Ad-hoc query generation question

    I have a LTS which has 5 tables -
    Item,
    Purchase_Categories,
    Order_Management_Categories,
    Inventory_Categories,
    Costing_Categories
    Now each %_categories table is joined to Item table in physical layer. In the LTS however, each %_Categories table has an outer join with the Item table so that if a category does not exist, the item is still displayed.
    When I run a query where I select a column from Item and a column from Purchase_Categories, OBIEE still generates a query
    SELECT ITEM.COLUMN1,
    PURCHASE_CATEGORIES.COLUMN2
    FROM ITEM left outer join purchase_categories ON ...
    left outer join order_management_categories ON ...
    left outer join inventory_categories ON...
    left outer join costing_categories ON ....
    I was expecting that OBIEE would generate a query select only the tables which were need i.e. the expected query was -
    SELECT ITEM.COLUMN1,
    PURCHASE_CATEGORIES.COLUMN2
    FROM ITEM left outer join purchase_categories ON ...
    I have seen that in some cases, OBIEE selects only the table that is required to generate the join based on the column selected, even though there are multiple tables in the joined in the LTS i.e. if the query is selecting columns from only 1 table and there are 2 tables in the LTS, OBIEE generates a query with only one table which has the column being selected.
    Why this difference in behavior during query generation ? Why does OBIEE intelligently select a specific table from the LTS definition some case and in other cases does not ?

    In case of outer join oracle applied all the join conditions defined among LTes. In normal joins it is able to figure out the correct source for column and does the trimming.

    Ive been looking through them all but couldnt really find anything that solved my problem.
    I have an XP pro notebook connected to a WAP. I want to know if its possible to connect my Powermac WIRED through the notebook by using Connection sharing to get on the net? I DO NOT have the wireless option on my powermac and my last resort would be running a 50 ft cat5 to the router.

    Yes, you can do this. Enable connection sharing on the PC and hook up your Mac.

    I am very new to SAP Strategy Management (SSM). I already tried to find some information about it in the web, but unfortunately most documents only provide high level information (mostly marketing slides). Therefore I would be grateful if you could answer the following questions:
    1. SSM provides charts for data visualization. Is there an overview of supported chart types? Is there a source which gives further information about chart customization?
    2. SSM provides a collaboration functionality that enables user to add comments. Can comments only be maintained on query level, or also by navigation state (e.g. comment is only shown, when navigating to Calendar Year 2006 and Company Code 4711)?
    3. Is it possible to print comments / export comments combined with charts / reports to PDF
    4. Can users upload documents (e.g. MS Word docs)?
    5. A new version was just released which is supposed to have a better integration with SAP BI. What are the improvements in terms of integration? How can SAP BI data be accessed?
    6. What are the current system requirements for SSM?
    7. Where can a documentation on SSM be found (I could unfortunately only find an installation guide on service.sap.com)?

    Here is some information about SAP Strategy Management:

    Strategy Management provides out-of-the-box packaged reporting templates: Benchmarking, Trending, Percent Contributions within subtotals, Exceptions, Rankings, Ad-Hoc reporting of multiple dimensions & metrics.
    With Strategy Management, you can also provide links to reports or charts in other applications for further drill-down or exploration. 
    2. SSM provides a collaboration functionality that enables user to add comments. Can comments only be maintained on query level, or also by navigation state (e.g. comment is only shown, when navigating to Calendar Year 2006 and Company Code 4711)?
    Comments are added by users to specific areas and can be defined as to which user groups have access or visibility to these comments. These comments are directly associated with a specific area (i.e. objective, KPI, initiative, etc.) with a tagging icon to show individual users if there are new, unread, comments since their last access to system.
    Comments are added at the user interface level and would be stored in either the MaxDB or SQL database, depending on how the implementation was configured. 
    3. Is it possible to print comments / export comments combined with charts / reports to PDF
    Strategy Management has an Operational Review function that allows users to capture screenshots, annotate them and publish as a pdf report.
    4. Can users upload documents (e.g. MS Word docs)?
    Throughout Strategy Management is the ability to provide links to other reports, internal or external documentation, as well as other applications. Best practices would have an associated link to documents.
    5. A new version was just released which is supposed to have a better integration with SAP BI. What are the improvements in terms of integration? How can SAP BI data be accessed?
    The improvements are an administrator tool that provides a basic user interface to simplify the handling of BI connectivity: importing schemas, defining virtual measures, creating scorecard metrics, and importing data.
    6. What are the current system requirements for SSM?
    That information can be found in the installation guides.There is a Master Guide and a Sizing Guide which will both be helpful.
    7. Where can a documentation on SSM be found (I could unfortunately only find an installation guide on service.sap.com)?

  • Iwl3945/mac80211 (ad-hoc) malfunctions after latest update to 2.6.26?

    I have been using Arch on this specific laptop(intel pro wireless 3945 wifi ward) for around 10 months now,  and pretty much every time up to last update  ad-hoc networking *always* worked.The driver i used in past months was iwl3945 over mac80211.The same combo is now trying to work properly aswell.So lets get to the story:

    As you see here, for some reason wlan-ng** and ipw3945*(older driver) made it into my machine aswell, let alone ndiswrapper, that i never used.No matter what, my net after i booted the new kernel was broken. I couldnt connect using the "network" script (see below) as i used to.On boot kernel using just udev , was loading for some reason all ipw3945/iwl3945/ndiswrapper!So to minimize conflict possibilities, i removed wlan-ng26/wlan-ng26-utils , as well as ipw3945/ipw3945d and ndiswrapper. I blacklisted all the above aswell so to be sure that only the recommended iwl3945/mac80211 combo will run .

    Aha! somethng goes wrong at low level there. Only randomly the pings are echoed for 3 or 4 seconds, and then again my wifi card looses association and starts all over taking random time to reassociate.
    As a side note, the hardware *did* work properly since it was operating flawlessly before last update, *AND* *does* work properly , since i can boot from my FaunOS usb stick , and get it work properly.This all seem strange to me. In case any of you can recognize wthere this is some sort of configuration problem, upstream code problem, or package problem i would be glad to hear it , as i have been trying to figure out what is going wrong for 5 days now.I havent yet tried managed more, but it is not an option for me at the moment.

    Well after getting tired trying out little things here and there with iwl3945/mac80211 and rc.conf et al. i gave ndiswrapper 1.52 a shot and it worked. Now i have my network back. So this reduces i guess the possibility for a script error causing this issue? So it is a iwl3945/mac80211 error? Should i file a bug for this somewhere with all the data i have in this thread and my braincells regarding this issue,  since the suggested open source linux drivers dont work after upgrading to 2.26.6?

  • How to give planners read only access to Planning cube for ad-hoc analysis?

    Hi Everyone,
    I am trying to issue smartview reports to the planners. Most of the reports are coming off Essbase (reporting) application. However, we have to generate one report from planning server because of the text fields. Currently, on planning server, planners have access only to the forms. They dont have access to the planning cube. But to make them able to refresh this report, we need to give them access to the planning cube.
    But we dont want them to do ad-hoc data write on planning cube. So my question goes like this - Is there a way for planners to have write access on the web forms but only read access to the cube through samrtview ??

    The access permissions will match between planning and smart view if a planning connection is used.
