Adautocfg updating wrong oracle home

We are doing a database upgrade from 8.1.7 to 9.2.0.6 per note 216550.1. The database upgrade is complete and we are now on step 21 - run autoconfig. We copied the appsutil directory from 8.1.7 home to 9.2 home and edited the xml file changing oradb (8.1.7) to ora92. I then edited adautocfg.cmd replacing oradb with ora92. Ran adautocfg.cmd and it failed after asking for a password - said I gave to many!! However, looks like it worked since it did create a new listener, tnsnames, etc. files.
Then I heard from users that another 8.1.7 database on this box was inaccessible. I rebooted server and the 8.1.7 listener would not
start!!! I looked at the registry and found that adautoconfig had changed the 817 registry information. I manually edited the entries and now okay.
Under oracle subkey:
all_homes: id0/home0 - is 8.1.7 - it now pointed to ora92 - I changed back to oradb (817)
id1/home1 - ias - okay
id2/home2 - n806 - okay
id3/home3 - 902 - okay
I edited the registry changing id0/home0 back to 8.1.7 and then could restart
the 8.1.7 listener and database. Ran adautocfg again and it changed the
id0/home0 entries. SHould be doing id3/home3.
Help
I even did a "set oracle_home=f:\oracle\ora92" before running adautocfg and it still updated the wrong database registry information.
What do I have to do to make it update the right home?????

I would suggest that it something in your setup as this does not normally happen. At least I haven't seen this in ages. Probably a different umask of the oracle user?

  • Wrong Oracle Home

    Hi, All.
    Solaris 8, 9iAS Rel.2
On our App Serv machine we have 2 installations of 9iAS in 2 separate homes. The first AS installation has a running j2ee app. I tried to deploy a .ear file on the second one and finished with this OEM error after specifying all settings:
Deployment failed: Nested exception Root Cause: Error initializing userManager '<domain_name>.security.CustomContactManager': <Old Home>/WEB-INF/webapp.conf (No such file or directory). Error initializing userManager
Why does it refer to the old ORACLE_HOME?
oc4j instance for this application was created for the new AS instance.

    Fixed it. No Worries

  • Guidelines regarding directory structure for multiple Oracle homes on Unix!

    Hi All,
Are there any guidelines published regarding directory structures that should be defined while using multiple Oracle homes on Unix/Linux box?
I am looking for guidelines regarding admin and oradata folders so that we dont accidentally mess up with the DB contents with a wrong Oracle home.
Its a development server with 8i and 10g. 11g might also get loaded on the same server in future.
    Thanks in advance...
    Regards

    Thanks Maran.
I have already checked many installation guides before posting here. All of them mention about creating folders like /admin or /oradata on various mount points but none of the naming conventions really indicate whether it is a 8i database or a 10g database.
This is required when you are having multiple Oracle installations under /opt and databases are running from different mount points.

What errors are you getting, I take it you have updated the Oracle home and JRE location to match your environment.

These questions show a certain lack of knowledge about Oracle - which immediately says that you also do not know what you are doing ito performance and scalability of a Oracle and that server platform by running multiple instances on it.
In most case, running multiple instances is the wrong thing to do. It degrades performance. It does not and cannot scale. It is an exception to the basic fundamentals of client-server. And not just for Oracle.
You need sound technical justification for running multiple instances on a server. What is yours?

  • Forms installation problem - how do I create a new default Oracle home?

I am new to Oracle so please forgive my utter ignorance. My impression of Oracle because of how an installation
has to be done is taking a nosedive. I thought Microsoft was bad with all the re-booting but the explanation that I
read in Anubhav Seth's post about installing Dev 6i before 8i and the suggestion (not a requirement) to format the
harddisk and reinstall Windows just leaves me with my jaw hanging open. I'm having a little trouble swallowing that
    one.
Here's my situation... I'm running 8i at home and I am using it for the Oracle courses that I am taking at a local
university. So 8i with its SQL*Plus has been all I have needed to date. Now we have a project to do that involves forms.
So I go to the OTN page for downloads and downloaded file 6irel2nt.exe which is 264 MB in size. This file, I assume,
has forms in it -- what else I don't know because things are not explained all that well on the web site or I don't know
where to look (which implies poor organization of the web pages).
I run the 6irel2nt.exe file and end up with 11,128 new files on my computer. That's nice. I run the setup file and a step or
two into it it complains that my 'Ora81' home is already being used and that I need to install it into another Oracle Home.
Now I'm trying to find out how I create another Oracle Home. I perform a search in GOOGLE on "creat default Oracle
home" and basically get nowhere. My $50+ "Oracle 8i A Beginner's Guide" from Oracle Press mentions Oracle Home
on one page (pg. 170) but is completely useless in this case. My $184 worth of Oracle University manuals (which
are really PowerPoint slides) is useless too. My next step will be to comb through the FAQs. All this because I cannot
believe that I have to totally uninstall one product to get another to install and then reinstall the first one. That is INSANE!
If I have gone way off track please feel free to blast me but if this is true then all I can say is that the folks at Oracle need
a lesson in KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)! Computers and computer software are supposed to make our lives simpler
not complicate the holy hell out of them. I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry about the whining.

I ended up uninstalling 8i and then I installed Dev 6i (Forms) and then I reinstalled 8i. I had some problems
installing Dev 6i because of this error "path.vrf(86): Unbound variable 'path_too_long_prompt'". Right after this error
appears I get a dialog that states, "The Oracle Installer cannot update the system path variable to %new_path%
because it is too long. Please restrict your system path to 127 characters and make sure D:\Oracle\OraWin95\bin
    is included in your path."
The path D:\Oracle\OraWin95 was what I set up for this installation.
What I did to work around this problem was this...
    (1) Go to Start - Accessories - System Tools - System Information.
    (2) Click on the Tools menu
    (3) Select System Configuration Utility
    (4) Select the Autoexec.bat tab
    (5) I added D:\Oracle\OraWin95\bin to my PATH variable and unchecked the checkbox next to one of the several
lines that I have that build my PATH variable. (I have several PATH lines that simply add a path to the system
variable %path%). After the installation is complete you can go back and turn back on the paths that you had disabled.
After installing 8i I did have a problem connecting to the database. I got this error:
    Error: ORA-01034 Oracle not available
I believe this happened because I had forgotten to turn back on some of my PATH information that I mentioned
earlier. After checking one of my PATH variables and rebooting, this problem disappeared.
When reinstalling 8i and when the installation asks for an SID and you enter the SID you had used in the original
installation you may get a notice that says the SID already exists. I think this happens because the uninstall does not
clean up the registry totally, so I entered a different one. Later on, after the installation has been completed and you
are connecting to your database, you will be prompted to select an SID -- just make sure that you select the SID from
    the latest installation.
I should've mentioned first that in preparing for this whole ridiculous exercise I created a directory under my Oracle
directory that I was going to use as the new 'Oracle home.' So I guess that's all one has to do to create a new Oracle
home -- just have another directory ready to install 'stuff' into.
All in all, this a pretty asinine exercise. Oracle really needs to fix this mess. I honestly thought Microsoft was bad but
this takes the cake. I wonder if SQL Server is this screwed up.

    Hi All,
I am facing the same issue again after installed the oracle linux 4.5.
My Source database is 9i it is running in oracle linux 4.4, So i couldn't register my oracle home in the ORACLE Linux 4.5.I have to downgrade my Oracle linux from 4.5 to 4.4.
I sourced the below steps from google,
Hello everybody! I have a problem with my server and I want to check that it isn't a software problem. So, firstly I want to downgrade from 4.5b6 to 4.4. Just to point out, I have a Plus license. So, to do the downgrade, Do I just have to change the following files? : bzimage
bzroot Nothing else? Thank you so much.
    It is that easy.
You can rename the existing two files so you can put them back into place as bzroot and bzimage if the experiment does not result in an improvement.  I do that on my system.  bzroot would become bzroot.456 and bzimage woud be re-named as bzimage.456
As an alternative, you could add the 4.4.2 files as bzroot.442 and bzimage.442 and then add three lines to your syslinux.cfg file.  They would result in additional menu choices when you next boot to allow you to choose to boot on either the older or the current version.
A copy of my syslinux.cfg file is below.  You can see I can elect to boot on on almost any of the recent releases, as I've kept re-named copies of each release in turn on my flash drive.
(All the lines I added are in "blue", the three lines for 4.4.2 you would need to add are in "bold blue.".  It would require you to put the 4.4.2 files in place renamed as bzroot.442 and bzimage.442)
The only thing you need to be aware of if you re-name the files as I've done is the names must be legal names under DOS on a FAT file-system.  Therefore, the names must be at most 8 characters long with a three character "extension"
bzimage.456 is legal, bzimage.45b6 is not. (because it has a 4 character extension)

  • Oracle reading binary files from other oracle home.

    Hi all,
I have two oracle db installed on the same server but on different oracle home.
It seems to me that the second oracle is reading the binaries from the other installation.
I can start this database and the sap instance and it starts on the correct oracle home but I see that it is reading files on the first oracle home.
for example, it saves the spfile under the first oracle_home\database directory. I started it using pfile=<the_correct_ora-home>\database\initSID.ora and set on this  init.ora file the correct path for  spfile.
But even after this if i change any parameter, it stills change the spfile on the wrong <oracle_home>\database.
Is there a way to fix this ? I mean to make the second oracle to see files under its own oracle home ?
It is oracle 11g under windows 2008.
Remember that all the environment variables is pointing to the correct oracle home and I can start SAP and Oracle as well on this oracle_home.
    Thanks in advance,
    Joao.

    Hi Orkun,
No, we don't have anything else installed yet.
Please see what I found out:
Checking those binary errors I found out that the oracle service
OracleServiceDPC (the second instance on this server) is being started from the wrong oracle_home path. Please
see the path to the executables on that service properties:
    g:\oracle\dnc\11202\bin\ORACLE.EXE DPC
It is pointing to the other oracle home DNC but starting instance DPC. How can I change that ?
Please see that the oracle home, the listener, etc is correct pointing
    to oracle home G:\oracle\DPC\11202.
I would like to disable this service and create the correct one.
    Is that possible ?
    thanks and regards,
    Joao

  • ODI installation out of Oracle home

    Hi,
I have to install Oracle Data Integrator on a development server where EPM 11.1.2 is already installed. I encounter the following error after setting the install folder (I leave it to default: D:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1):
OUI-10044: The selected Oracle Home location already contains an Oracle Home
or APPL_TOP created while running a different OS
I've done some research and found [ that post|http://gerardnico.com/wiki/database/oracle/oui-10044], which didn't help much.
Basically my ODI file shiphomeproperties.xml shows an OS id 233, which is good.
The problem might be that I have two Oracle folders under C:/. One under "Program Files(x86)" that shows an OS id of 912 and another under "Program Files" which shows an OS id 233. Now I'm guessing that the Oracle installer looks into the wrong file...
Now I might have a workaround, if I change the default install folder, for example to Oracle1, I can access the next step.
My question is to know if it's ok to installl ODI in another Oracle home, is it ok to have two oracle home ?
    thanks for your help.

  • Clean up Oracle Home (11.1.0.6)

    Hi,
One of my Oracle Home (11.1.0.6) on HPUnix IA64, is 10GB.
As far as I understand, an Oracle Home should not be more than 5-6GB isnt it? Correct me if I am wrong.
And also please let me know how to free up the space in the Oracle Home. Which directory should I search for cleaning up the space in the Oracle Home?
    Thanks!

  • DEV 6i and oracle home

    Please can anybody help?
Perhaps a minor problem but when i try to install dev6i release 2 (just downloaded)i have to specify a oracle home. When a choose the one where i have installed the 9i database (orahome90)
then i get the following error:
The location specified E:\oracle\ora90 is already used as an Oracle home for Oracle 82 Beta. It cannot be used as an Oracle home for NT
What do or have i done wrong?

Forms/Reports6 must be installed in a seperate Oracle Home, you cannot put them in the same home as the database. Ensure that the new home that you create is the default Oracle home.

  • How to install 2 oracle homes on singl windows host

    Hi Experts,
I am planning to install two sap R/3 4.7 ext200 SR1 instances on windows 2003. I already installed DEV instance & planning for QAS.
I am confused about how to install two ORACLE softwares on single windows host.
I search on internet there for windows they are pointing to the registry value
    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Software\Oracle\inst_loc.
I am not able to understand what I have to do with this ?
Can you please help me to understand & execute this.
    Thanks,
    Sachin

    Sachin,
Go throuth this link to understand more about Oracle Inventory and Oracle Homes software update.
    http://cs.ifmo.ru/~ad/Documentation/oracle-10g-lib-doc/em.101/b12140/3_oui_oracle_homes.htm#i1005634
The current entry is picked from the PATH vairable of the system and user that you have logged on. This is because you have already done 1 Oracle Installation on the host.
Keep in mind that you choose the correct oracle home while installing and in future updating Oracle software (patchset, Interim Pactches...)
You can give a seperate path for Oracle Inventory. Just go thru to the existing folder of OraInventory in Program files you will understand it better.
It is used to install and update the Oracle software in the oracle home that you will choose in your next step.
    All the Best,
    Nilesh
