Add a 2nd HD to a dv7 3160us?

I want to install a second hard drive in my dv7 3160us. Will the hardware kit shown for the primary HD work for the second HD too?
When I get the 2nd HD installed is there anything that has to be changed in the BIOS so it is recognized?
Is there a size limitation on the second HD?

If you add a new account dimension hiearchy, just name it PARENTH3, and add a FORMULAH3 to the property sheet.  Each hierachy is stored in a seperate table in SQL. But the FORMULA property must exist in the Properties input.  You DO NOT NEED in PROPERTIES to have PARENTHX or FORMULAHX added at all.  These are just added to the MEMBERS SHEET.
Hope this helps.

  • How to add a 2nd hard drive to DV7-3080US

The hard drive died on my dv7-3080us. It was a 500GB drive.
I would like to nreplace it with a 1TB drive and in addition
add a second drive. Specifically I would add a
    SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s
TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD).
Will the system support a 1TB drive and 250GB solid state drive?

Yes no problem. Use the SSD as the primary/OS/boot drive in slot 1. You will need a caddy for the 1 TB drive in Slot 2. Visit newmodeus.com to buy the caddy and for video tutorials.

    (1) Order HDD, hard drive, hardware kit. HDD hardware kit includes mounting rails, static shield, screws, rubber isolators, and SATA to motherboard cable. Check your model & Product # for compatibility.

    (2) Consult Drives - Windows 7 PDF, table of contents, 7 Replacing a drive in the secondary hard drive bay. This will show you how to install a 2nd HDD in a HP DV7.
          Drives - Windows 7 PDF
    (3) In Windows 7 select Computer, Select the HDD installed, Format (if not already formatted).
    (4) If HDD does not show up in Windows 7 under Computer, go to Start (Menu), Search Programs and Files, enter "Computer Management", select Storage, Disk Management (Local), look for the Bay 2 HDD (should show up as Disc 1, Bay 1 HDD should show as Disc 0), Format the 2nd HDD (The one you just installed).
Update: I have the 2nd HDD (WD 1TB) installed, Windows now recognises it after completing the steps I mentioned in step 4, Format with default allocation NTFS 931.51GB free, 118MB used for formatting. Format with default allocation exFAT 931.51GB free, 1MB used for formatting. I selected NTFS format to reduce file fragmenting.

When i added my 2nd HDD I was ready to get it ordered and shipped, so it would arrive before I arrived home. I also was not sure if it would be offered anywhere else and be 100% compatible. The quality of the factory HP part is good. Since then I found a cheeper source. Newmodeus DV7-3xxx Hard Drive Caddy $27.95 +tax +shipping. Not sure if the quality is the same. If this helps you, post your results and kudos.

  • Dv7-3160us - Mounting kit for 2nd Hard Drive

    Hello,
Sorry if the answer is posted elsewhere. I have looked and cannot find one specifically for my model.
I have a dv7-3160us, which has the secondary drive bay.
I have a second WD 500GB SATA bare drive.
Where can I find information on obtaining both a mounting bracket and the appropriate cable to mount this bare drive in the secondary drive bay?
I was on the phone with HP tech supp, and even after almost 30 minutes of trying to explain what I needed he still didn't have a clue and kept telling me it ALREADY had a 500GB hard drive in it...... :-) Enough of that.
    Any help appreciated.

Can I add a 2nd iCloud account on my Mac?

You could use one at once and keep switching between the two, but it would be rather messy. You can also add more than one @me mail address to mail. You could also use seperate user accounts for each iCloud account. If you tell us why you would want to have two iCloud accounts on one mac we might be able to give better advice.

You could put your install disc on a USB Flash drive with Disk Utility. Also, here is the USB optical drive enclosure I bought. He raised the price a few bucks. Mine ran $10.00 with the shipping.

  • Can I add a 2nd HDD on my Satellite A300-02C?

    Hi all,
I'm wondering if it's possible to add a 2nd hard drive in my A300-02C?
There is a 2nd HDD slot, but no sata connector on the PCB (see picture link).
    http://www.notebookreview.com/picture.asp?f=36752
I'm wondering if it's possible to add the connector (by myself or by the toshiba customer service).
If someone knows if it's possible and where can i buy the sata connector... Please leave a comment :)
    Adrien.

I think there is nothing you can do about it.
Satellite A300 is delivered with several different hardware configurations and several different mainboards. I really don't believe you can add it additionally.
For exact info contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and ask for help.
If someone has experience with this stuff then Toshiba service technicians.

  • Is it possible to install a 250GB SSD in a DV7-3160us?

    Hello,
After struggling to install a Samsung 840 250GB SSD in my DV7-3160us, it has dawned on me that this may not be possible. Is there a known issue with SSD's as the primary drive in this model? Is the 250GB size a problem?
If this size SSD is allowable as a primary drive, perhaps someone could suggest a straightforward procedure to replace the original HDD with this SSD. I tried using the secondary drive bay to migrate the contents, but that didn't work because the SSD wasn't recognized by the BIOS or Windows. This may be due to the peculiar nature of the second bay on this model. Then I tried cloning the HDD onto the SSD in a desktop machine. The cloned SSD wouldn't boot when installed in the notebook's primary bay.
So what's the best approach to installing an SSD in this model? Thanks for your help.

    Hello torgy,
If you look at your Hard Drive & SSD manual (it is at the very bottom of the list), it should help answer your questions.
Please let me know if this helps.
    Good luck!

Why hard drive conection support SATA 3 but optical drive support SATA2??As i know the other notebook like asus or dell support SATA 3 both conection(hard drive and optical drive)
It appears that you did not understand the post that I made.
If you purchase a high end notebook that has a chipset with sata controllers that support SATA3 then SATA3 devices will run at SATA3 bandwidth. Your notebook is not one that does.
It would not matter which brand you chose.
If you decided to economize and purchase a mainstream notebook, then the issue would still be the same.
Notebooks are not created equally. It is the same with desktop PCs.
That is why each manufacturer has a tiered structure to accomodate the economic means of the target market.
    1) Entry level (basic chipset and CPU)  $
    2) Mainstream (mid level chipset and mainstream CPU)  $$
    3) High end.  (high end chipset and high performance CPU, wifi adapter and even SSD hard disks)  $$$

Yes. As long as the second iDevice has a unique name iTunes will deal with it separately.

How can you add a 2nd i Tunes account to the same computer?

I had an application where I spawned (= ran with Start Asynchronous Call) multiple (reentrant) copies of VIs, and would occasionally "lose control" of them.  I needed a way to find all VIs that were running "Top Level" and stop them (so I didn't have to log off from Windows).
I used the Application Property "All VIs in Memory" to get an array of (wait for it ...) All VIs in Memory.  I took each name, opened a VI reference to it (simply wire the name string in, as the VI is, by definition, "in memory"), looked at its VI Execution State, and if it was Run Top Level, Invoked the FP.Close and Abort VI Methods.  [To prevent the VI that did all this from "committing Suicide", I compared the name string with the current Call Chain, and did nothing if there was a match].
I think you could adopt this idea to do what you need.

Unfortunately, most of my advice is in the "hindsight is 20-20" category.
First off, I would never have purchased the peripheral accessories until the 14 day return period had expired. Second, you learned the hard way what the "14 days" really means.
Too bad you didn't do any homework, reading this and other forums and tech sites. Even word of mouth from others. That, more than anything could have steered you towards different phone choices from the get-go and I will leave that there with no further comment other than to say most of the issues you described have been discussed in this forum, ad nauseam.
Once you got into the refurbished phone exchanges, that is where things really went haywire. What someone tells you over the phone is a sketchy proposition, and when it comes down to it, it's your word against theirs.
I think Verizon tried to make it right, though. Remember, they don't make the phones. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
You stated yourself you were a satisfied Verizon customer before this. Had the first two phones performed as they should, you would still be a satisfied Verizon customer.
Doubt any of that will make you any happier, but after you went through the effort of writing such a long post, I thought I'd try.
