Add a Custom Site Search Box

Hi Folks,
What is the best way to add a custom site search only box to Muse?
ciao
Cathy

Hi Cathy,
Muse does not currently offer a site search feature. Others have discussed this here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4748543 and I would recommend adding your vote to the following idea topic: http://forums.adobe.com/ideas/159

• How Do I Add A Site Search Box?

I just upgraded my BC subscription to webMarketing and I am wanting to add a site search box to my site but I am having troubles with the directions found on the Adobe Website: Business Catalyst Help | Add a site search box.
My first issue is a simple clarification with item #4 under "Create a page to display the search results"
4. In the editor, enter {module_searchresults} where you want the results to appear on the page. What exactly is the editor? LOL is that just the Adobe Muse page and I use the text tool and create a box with "{module_searchresults}" in it?
My next, more critical issue is:
Add a search box to a template
Open the template in editing mode by selecting Site Manager > Page Templates, and choosing the template from the list of templates. My BC Admin page has "Site Manager" on the left - but when I click it - it only shows "Web Forms" and "System E-mails" I have no option for "Page Templates".
So how do I get "Page Templates" to show up. I'm pretty sure my "webMarketing" subscription allows for a site search box...maybe I am mistaken.
Thanks for any help!

The editor is that of the WYSIWYG editor in the BC admin itself.
The important thing to know is Muse is NOT BC, it is not the only thing you use to make a BC site, far from it. IT is a really basic tool to build basic sites. The instructions you will find on the BC docs will never reference the way to do it for Muse, just BC, or you can use your own code editor.
So you need to go login to your website admin and then you will find the pages, templates etc.

I am new to using Muse, and would like to add a site search box to my main master page to allow quick search of my site. Does anyone know if/how this can be done?

• Customizing Advanced Search Box

We have a SharePoint 2010 farm. Some users complain that they have difficulty in finding documents. They get many results back and so have a hard time in searching for what they are looking for. Users search documents using Advanced Search box.
I am thinking of adding scopes so that users users will only see relevant information i.e. documents specific to their site. Is there anything else I can do to make their search experience more effective and rewarding? Thanks a lot.

Hi Mayank,
I blogged about making modifications to the advanced search webpart (to make it a little more user friendly), here: http://matthewyarlett.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/customising-sharepoint-advanced-search.html

• Financial password showed up in an unrelated sites Search box

I was searching the Uniden phone site for a user manual for a phone. The first 2 letters of the phone's model number are, coincidentally, the same as a password that I use for a bank account. After I typed the two letters, my password was filled in in the Search box. How do I stop this behavior?
XP SP3, FF14.0.1

Sounds that the password got saved as form data, maybe because you've once typed it by accident in an input field.
Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop down list:
#Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
#Highlight an entry in the drop down list
#Press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.

• Can I add a site search box to my iWeb site?

A newspaper site that I am developing needs to have search capabilities as I am posting an archive of articles. Does anyone know how to add this without having ads run on your site?
If iWeb is not capable, does anyone have a software program to suggest? I'm purely a software user--no idea about code, but can edit code when I'm directed to replace something, etc., etc.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi,
I use freefind:
http://www.freefind.com/
You do have to use code as Max says and post publish.
You can get their paid version that doesn't have ads.
I have the free version on my site.....here on my front page:

• Simple Site Search

Anyone figured out how to add a simple site search to your web site using Google, Yahoo, or Bing. The options out there using html coding do not seem to format correctly when added to an inserted object.

Thanks I did look at it but found out that Google will give you an embedded search widget for free that links you in to their search results. Thanks.

• Site Search Module Re-Direct

Hi guys,
Wondering if there is a way of adding a 're-direct' code to the Site Search Module HTML code, so that people can enter info in the site search box, and rather than keeping them on the same page, it takes them to a new page.
Thanks,
Aaron

Nicole, You was right in the first place but you you said &PageID= for the url when in actual fact it is just ID.
So, Aaron you do as Nicole said first (because it is easier) but use ID instead of PageID so..
/Default.aspx?SiteSearchID=3510&ID=/yoursubfolder/custompage
& is the HTML entitity for & and is better valid markup

• Tagging Text for Site Search

Hi, I'm a novice web developer, and a "theologian!" (I write Bible comentaries). I'm creating a site which show cases my free Bible commentaries, you can view it at http://www.biblestudiesonline.co.uk . You'll see how I have Bible verses listed, followed by an explanatory comment. What I need is a way to retrieve the Bible verse and its comments instantly when a user searches for the verse e.g. enters Luke 1:1 in the site search box, and gets that verse & comment. It would be especially useful for mobile ipad users etc. Is Dreamweaver the product I need, or is there another solution? Any ideas from you experts out there? Thanks.
Mathew

I'm a novice too and coincidentally just got finished reading Galatians 3:9-11.
Anyway I think it might be something to look at the "meta" tag which houses keywords that search engines in the past once used (I'm not sure if the meta tag still plays a role in SEO). However, regardless of whether the meta and keywords are still used by search engines on the internet, it could be possible to code the search engine on your site to look for tags that are contained on the pages of each Biblical verse. This is only postulating but I'm thinking it could be done this way. There must be other more efficient means of using scripting to achieve what you're after.

• How to add a dropdown menu to the search box (the 'search this site' box that appears on all subsites)

Hello there,
I know that in the search center you can add search verticals. Then you can configure the search box so it has a drop down menu so you can specify the result source you want to search.
But my question is about the 'search this site' box which appears on all subsites, so not the one in the search center. Is it possible to add the same dropdown menu to this box as in the search center?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to add a dropdown menu to the search box.
You need to look at the Search Settings page that is located under the Site Collection Administration of the Site Settings.

• I can't get rid of iMesh search box - got rid of toolbar but not search box - it is not included in add-ons

I downloaded iMesh thinking it was just a normal music-streaming site. However, it downloads a toolbar and search box. I seemed to have deleted the toolbar with no problem. However, the search box is still there, to the right of the navigation box, and if I go to Tools - manage Add-ons, it is not listed there at all. Is there a way to remove the search box without uninstalling the program or is it better to uninstall it? My virus/anti-malware programs do not report any risks associated with the program and it is handy to find audio streams on the Internet, so I would keep it if it is not harmful. The search box is not causing any problems, I'm just concerned because it was put there without my agreement and does not seem to be removable from the Tools menu. I use Google or Norton Safesearch and would not use iMesh for general searches.

Hi Gnib, First go to start>control panel>add/remove Programs. In add/remove
programs there will be "Media Bar" once you click on it to remove it,then it says
remove "media bar 2.0". Get rid of that also. Now go into your "add-ons
and extensions". There will be something about the imesh toolbar. Uninstall
that. Go into start>programs. If imesh is there, delete that too.
If this doesn't work for you. Tell me what you first did to remove imesh.
