  • I would like to add a new card date field to my address Book Contacts. Is this possible? Thanks, Jeff

    Hi,
I would like to add a new card date field to my Address Book Contacts. Is there any way to do this? I have a lot of contacts and it helps me remember who I talked to, if I had a new card date field in my contacts.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
I found the applescript below from Michael Bach that works well.
(* Find recently modified entries in the Address Book
Input: a time interval (backwards from today) in the variable "daysBeforeToday"
Output: a string on the clipboard, format: YYYY-MM-DD (tab) Name (return)
    ©2009, Michael Bach, <www.michaelbach.de> *)
set daysBeforeToday to 7 -- <<<  change as desired or read from a dialog
    tell application "Address Book"
      copy (current date) - daysBeforeToday * 24 * minutes * 60 to referenceDate
copy (every person whose (modification date > referenceDate)) to modifiedPersons
      set s to ""
      repeat with aPerson in modifiedPersons
set d to ((modification date) of aPerson) -- now change to international format and forget the hours
        set dateString to (year of d as string) & "-" & (my twoDigits((month of d) as number)) & "-" & (my twoDigits(day of d) as string)
        set s to s & dateString & tab & (name of aPerson) & return
      end repeat
set the clipboard to s --for pasting into other applications
s -- to view immediately in the script editor
    end tell
on twoDigits(aNumber) -- trivial utility for formatting
if aNumber < 10 then return "0" & (aNumber as string)
      return (aNumber as string)
    end twoDigits
I changed the modification date to creation date.
    Thanks for the replies.

  • Since I moved to iCloud I can't Edit or Delete Address Book Contacts using my MacBook Pro

Is not funny at all, everything was fine using Mobile Me but since I switch to iCloud I can't Edit or Delete my Address Book Contacts using my MacBook Pro or my MacPro.
In my MacBook Pro, i open Address Book and on the left I have te list of all contacts, on the right the selected contact informations, below I only have "Add Contact" or "Share", my friend have "Edit" instead of "Add Contact".
If I click on "Add Contact" this is the result:
Are you sure you want to import 1 card? 1 card is a duplicate and will be updated.
Everything fine using my iPhone or the website.
    Apple, what's going on?

Here is some information and instructions from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3998
Please note that iCloud is geared towards being an instantaneous (and in some cases temporary) parking place for various things with iDevices; the access and useability from a computer is more difficult and, for most things, has to be done via the website icloud.com.

  • Cannot Delete Address Book Contacts

I can't seem to delete some address book contacts. When I open the address book all my contacts show. But, there is no "plus" or "minus" sign anywhere in the window so I can't use them to highlight a name and simply hit "minus" to delete a name. When I right click on the name the only options it gives me are "edit card" and "export vcard". Even if I choose "edit", nothing happens. When I hightlight a name and just hit the delete or backspace key, again, nothing happens. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm having what seems to be exactly the same problem. The only thing I've discovered, if it will help someone solve this for us, is that the problem only affects one user. I have another administrator user and a guest standard user; both of them can edit, add,etc in their own Address book. I've tried everything I can think of, except for reinstalling the OS.
    Thanks.

  • G-mail doesn't accept my 5.1.10 version of Safari. Will a newer version allow me to transfer my address book contacts to g-mail?

I recently forwarded my e-mail from my local provider to g-mail. How do I transfer my address book contacts to g-mail contacts. Or how do I use MacMail with a g-mail account?

Add the Gmail account to Mail/Preferences/Accounts. Click the + sign at the bottom left and add it.
Try another browser as a test.
    Firefox
If you want to upgrade the OS, the following applies.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

    Do a backup before installing.

  • IPhone syncs only SOME of my Address Book contacts...?

    Hi guys,
Just realized I'm having a bit of a syncing issue... For some reason my iPhone is not including all of my contacts from Address Book. I have a total of 63 Address Book contacts, but my iPhone is only at 53!? If I add a new contact in my iPhone, it will carry over to Address Book, but it doesn't seem to be adding a few contacts from my list... Any ideas? I can't find any similarities between the missing contacts either. Oh, and I'm on the most current iPhone version as well.
Thanks in advance for any input! I'm stumped!

Try resetting the sync history on your Mac.
Applications > iSync > iSync Preferences > Reset Sync History
After resetting the sync history, restart your Mac and then try syncing again

  • Syncing Address Book contacts with iPod

I know some people will think this post should be in the iPod forum but I have realised that it is not my iPod beccasue I tried using a different iPod and the same problem happened. Anyway...the problem is that when I choose to sync Address Book contacts with iPod it comes up with this message:
    No contacts available
Contact syncinig cannot be enabled because there are no contacts available. Do you want to open Address Book and create contacts now?
And gives me the options: Cancel and Open Address Book
I have tried deleting several different preferences for iTunes, Address Book and iSync (just incase).
I don't know what else to do, I know I can manually add my contacts by exporting them all as a vCard but it would be so much easier if iTunes could do it. Please help if you know anything!

I've got Calenders syncing again, not sure how I did it. I deleted the one of the folders in /Users/Alex/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/
I found that in each folder there is a clientname.txt file with the name of what data is in the folder e.g. iCal, Safari, Keychain, Mail.
I deleted the iCal one and iTunes seems to be syncing it now. So I looked for a folder with Address Book in the clientname.txt file but there wasn't one. I am wondering whether that's the reason!

  • Address Book contacts completely missing

I don't know what may have triggered this, but it happened in the last week or so.
I have been using Address Book to store and sync my contacts for over a year now.  Just a few days ago I wanted to make some changes, but when I opened Address Book it was totally empty! When I look in the Users/~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata folder, all of the contact cards are still listed there, and using quicklook I can see that the info is still in tact.
I tried selecting all of those cards and drag/dropping them onto the Address Book and that didn't import anything. I tried going to File>Import, but Import is greyed out so I couldn't add them back in there that way either.  I can't really think of anything else to try.
When I type a contact into Mail, however, it sees all of  the contacts just fine, so I'm guessing there's a problem with Address  Book not referencing the Metadata folder (only a guess). I'm attaching a picture of what I see, if that will help.
    Can anyone please help?

Exported addresses from Address Book to desktop and then deleted all addresses from Address Book.
    Deleted file AddressBook-v22.ab** from Library>Application Support>AddressBook.
Exited Address Book and iTunes, restarted Address Book and imported addresses from desktop.
Restarted iTunes and all of the groups were visible in the "Synch Address Book Contacts" window.

  • Trouble synching address book contacts to phone

    here goes:
i recently updated to the newest iOS and newest itunes software. since the update, i have not been able to tranfer all of the contacts from my address book(on my mac) to my phone!  When I plug my iphone in to the computer and go to the info tab, ""Sync Address Book Contacts" isn't even an option. It only says "Sync Contacts". I've even tried the "replace info on this phone" and I still don't get all my contacts from my address book!

    Welcome to discussions Rick,
I don't know of a Bluetooth icon in address book. Are you using iSync? The way I sync only contacts of my choosing is to create a new group in address book called some thing like 'Nokia' add the contacts I want then use iSync to sync the phone using only 'Nokia' group.

  • IPad Address Book (Contacts.app) crash on launch

my iPad address book (Contacts.app) crashes on launch
this problem also affects me when trying to send emails: the email app works fine for reading emails, but as soon as I write a new email and go to the "To" or "cc" or "bcc" boxes to input a recipient address, mail crashes, presumably because the Address book is being accessed at this stage.
I can see that the above can be an Address book (Contacts.app) problem.
Am running pre iOS 4.2 version of the iOS (likely the most up to date pre recent update), i.e. I don't have folders or multi-tasking yet.

OK FIRST , DID U SET UP THE EMAIL CAL AND CONTACTS CORRECTLY? AS FOR IT CRASHING IT SHOULDNT EVEN IF IT IS BLANK! NOW FOR THE PART ABOUT EMAIL NOT WORKING......I RECOMMEND U JUST RESTORE IT AND "YES" begin as a new device!!!! I HAD SAME PROBLEM EXCEPT MINE WAS : backup successful, restore successful, update to 4.2 successful, sync of backup back to iPad successful, ha ha then when I turn iPad on BLANK!!!!! OH THE CAPACITY BAR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE COMPUTER SCREEN IN ITUNES WAS 10.7 gb of music 9.2 of movies, and 5.7 gb of games..... WELL IPAD WAS EMPTY!
Sync 3 times same result..... RESTORED IT AND SYNCED BACKUP DATA AGAIN, still nothing! SO I RESTORED AND STARTED NEW! PERFECT?!
So I had to select the apps and other media that I wanted to put back on it! AND YES I LOST ALL THE PHOTOS (maybe I haven't found it on pc, so for now I assume lost) but PRIOR TO UPDATE I EMAILED ALL MY NOTES TO MYSELF SO THEY WERE JUST A COPY AND PASTE BACK TO MY NOTES APP ON THE IPAD!
Same with photos! Yeah tedious but I like to SEE INFO SAVED prior to any apple updates! So yeah there is something wrong with the sync portion of the update! So I suggest u just swallow loss and forget the data! AS FOR CONTACTS: just hop on computer and email a GROUP EMAIL OF CONTACTS TO IPAD THEN SET UP EMAIL ON IPAD AND THEN GO TO THAT EMAIL AND ADD THEM TO CONTACTS MANUALLY (or u can use your email server and sync via iTunes (see last tab on the iTunes menu for your device and there u can choose to sync calendars too)

  • "create or select an existing address book contact to represent your data"

After upgrading the firmware on my Storm, everything seems to be back to the "stupidphone" state, like it just came out of the box.
I had no idea that would happen; no warning, etc. Trying to send a Blackberry Messenger text to a contact, I now discover I have to scroll through a bunch of EULAs ... probably for every little thing on the phone, from the looks of it.
I'm trying to get back the Blackberry Messenger contacts I had.
I have no screen name anymore ... reset that ... OK [grumble grumble].
No Blackberry contacts. The backup in Blackberry Desktop Manger adds ... nothing.
So, obviously, the Desktop software is useless, as I did back up everything before I did the update.
There is some babbling on the screen about some other undefined backup option. When I try to enable that, it says:
"create or select an existing address book contact to represent your data."
"Represent"? What in the world do you mean by "represent"?
And what kind of contact should I be selecting? Some random fool? Myself? Can't Blackberry figure out I want this backed up to something I control?
Please explain EXACTLY what this "dance around the concept" babbling means. I propose we try the English language.
Also, how do I get my Blackberry Messenger contacts back?

    1. You only have to accept the EULA once.

    2. That's of no help to anyone who might want to assist you. "Nothing" is correct.
What does happen? You go to Backup/Restore > Advanced... and what? You do nothing?
Try over the left hand pane > File > Open > Select your most recent BlackBerry Messenger contact database and restoring it.
Did you ever backup your BBM contacts OTA or to your Media Card?

  • Problems with outlook and address book contacts: my outlook contacts had around 3,000 entries. Outlook duplicated by itself and now outlook and address book have each over 340,000. What should I do?

Problems with outlook and address book contacts: my outlook contacts had around 3,000 entries. Outlook duplicated entries and have now 340,000. I reinstalled microsoft office and, thus, outlook, and reinstalled mac OS X system and applications. While I managed to delete outlook contacts so that I can re-sync with my blackberry, the contacts at Mac Address Book were not deleted and still have over 340,000 entries. I do not mind deleting all contacts since I have back up, but I have not been able to delete them. Also, when I go at Address Book and try to delete or merge duplicated entries, the system takes forever and never ends because of such large amount of entries. Worse, when I do so I run out of RAM memory.
My Macbook pro is just 2 months old.
What should I do? Is there a way to delete my Mac Address Book without having the problem above?
    Many thanks

  • How do I sync my address book contacts on my iphone and clear all other contacts on my phone (issue with icloud?)

When I purchased my iphone 4S, I had all my old phone's information transfer over to my new phone.
I organized my address book on my mac powerbook and then hoped to sync my computer's address book to my phone - in hopes of erasing all the junky contacts on my iphone and only having the my address book contacts on my phone.
I did all I could trying to make this happen (through iTunes) but it hasn't erased/replaced all of the contacts on my phone - I believe since my phone is synced to icloud.  So I'm stuck with a very unorgaized contacts list on my phone...
How can I make it so I only have the contacts from my address book on my phone?
    Thanks in advance,
    Suzanne

Also, I just noticed that syncing my phone effected my calendar in that all my events now repeat.  So instead of having one event schedule on a day, I have two of the same events scheduled for the same time.
It seems as if I can't sync my phone to my computer through iTunes and iCloud.
    Help???
