Add card reader to M82 Tower units

We have 20 new m82 3202 tower units here and were told by Lenov we could add card readers (of any kind) to them.  However, once the boxes were opened, we realized that the front bezel doesn't look finished with a card reader installed, and the provided card reader bracket doesn't line up with the holes in our generic card readers.
So far nobody at Lenovo has been able to tell us what the part # is for the finished bezel to make them look appropriate, or the part # of a compatible and correct card reader.
Now, I think I can work around the mounting, but the finished looking front is a must, and these generic readers just don't fill the space or look correct at all.
Update1:  Lenovo tech support just called back and says that these systems require the following parts:
03T8160 card reader, 03t9736 card reader bezel.
These parts don't seem to come up very often on google and mostly on NON US sites, so I'm afraid he's mistaken or these parts have cross #'s for other more available parts.  So, still stuck.
Update2:  I can tell that one issue is that shorter or "not as deep" generic card reader units.  A longer generic card reader from rosewill that has 3 holes, 2 closer at the rear and 1 further at the front, on the side, works as far as depth goes, but there still must be a bezel of some kind that needs to go on there.  I hope that it's the bezel part # listed above, but since I can't get a picture of it, and have no idea if it's even available, I'm still stuck on that part.
Update3:  Parts tells me they only have 6 of these " 03t9736 card reader bezel" available and the others will have to !!!manufactured!!! so there is no telling when they'll be available.  Furthermore they have no picture or any idea of what they are, so I wouldn't know if they were actually what I needed or not.  Lastly, they are $17/each plus outrageous shipping for a simple piece of plastic (presumably).  unbelievable.
Thanks in advance if you can help.
JC

Lenovo tech support gave me mis-information on 2 complex problems. Double check everything, searching Lenovo websites, Google, and Bing.

  • P2 Card Reader in G5 tower ?

    Hi Guys
Has anyone got a P2 card reader in a Mac Tower , say a G5, or even a way to get the P2 files in with any device USB , eSATA, Firewire ect, I know that the "Duel Adapter" is for the Laptops , but I'm curious if there's a way into the towers.
    Cheers

    Hi Al
An up date, on the P2 reader issue
I finally aquired and Fitted the Amtron P2 card reader to my Mac G4 Mirror door -
    http://www.amtron.com/reader/pcdtp110cs.htm
I installed the supplied PCI card and cables (2) and mounted the Reader in the Top optical space,
removed the top flip down door. I used two after market mount brackets to fill space to optical mounts , with the face recessed enough that the P2 card won't get caught accidently by anything thing.
Booted mac up, inserted card and about 2 secs later the Pana "No Name" came up on the desktop. No software ect needed, the G4 Mac recognised the reader.
It reads all my P2 cards (8gig & 32gig). No problems ingesting into FCP 5.1,
Ingest time example (DVCPro 50 file) a 2min10sec clip took 1min & 2secs to import.
All good , easy and fast.
Reader has an activity Light and Eject Button. Card must be inserted "Black label" Up.
Card shows up in System profiler as TXN.PCIXXXX.OO Type cardbus.
    Pic attached.
    Mac OS is 10.4.8.
Now I'm going to Get the G5 MacPro (PCIe) reader working, i'll post when that's operational. <Edited by Moderator>

  • M92p SFF: Possible to add a 2.5" SSD boot drive in the 3.5" external card reader bay?

I recently bought a M92p Small Form Factor with model number 2988-A5U.
Is it possible to to add an additional 2.5" SSD as a boot drive while retaining the 3.5" 1TB SATA as the data drive?
I have searched many posts and datasheets on the internet but could't find an answer.
    http://www.partnerinfo.lenovo.com/partners/us/products/downloads/thinkcentre-mseries/ThinkCentre-M92...
The above specs. states that it supports 2 HDDs but I can't find another 3.5" or 2.5" internal HDD bay.
My thought is to put a 2.5" SSD into the 3.5" card reader bay. Is it feasible?

I ordered a 2.5" General 2.5" SSD to 3.5" SATA Hard Disk Drive HDD caddy from Amazon that fit perfectly! General 2.5" SSD to 3.5" SATA HDD caddy It came with screws that fit the new SSD, and the caddy fit the blue plastic carrier that slides into the 3.5" bay. This caddy properly aligns the connectors off to the left side, supports up to 6GBs SATA, and is even hot swappable.

  • T450s -- Display, NGFF SSD, Smart Card Reader, and m.2 SSD slots

I'm looking to order a T450s and have a few questions about options when configuring the order:
1080 Display -- Does anyone know if the 1080 display (non-touch) is made by LG or AUO or someone else? There was extensive discussion about the T440s, and people got different brands and the AUO was the preferred brand.
16GB m.2 NGFF SSD -- If I remove this option, and want to add a 3rd party compatible NGFF SSD later, can I do this?
3rd m.2 SSD Slot -- The options are None, 3rd m.2 SSD slot, or Smart Card Reader. If I select the Smart Card Reader option, can I later remove the Smart Card Reader and use it as a 3rd m.2 SSD slot? Or, if I select 3rd m.2 SSD slot and later want to use it for a Smart Card Reader, can I buy a Smart Card Reader and plug it into the slot?

Lenovo uses different FHD diplays for the T450s: one by AU Optronics and the other by LG Display.
However, the T450s uses a different LG display than the T440s. The LG screen of the T450s ("
LP140WF3-SPD1") seems to be much better than the LG screen of the T440s.
If you remove the 16GB M.2 SSD option, you can add a M.2 SSD later.
If you have a device with two M.2 slots, you can't use a M.2 SSD and WWAN at the same time.
If you have a device with three M.2 slots, you can only use single-sided M.2 SSDs in the third M.2 slot.
Both the SmartCard reader and the third M.2 slot are attached to the mainboard via a flexible flat cable.
If you choose the SmartCard reader, the warranty might be lost if you want to use the third M.2 slot, because you have to replace some parts that aren't so-called CRUs (consumer replaceable units).

  • USB Hub / External Card Reader recommendations?

    Afternoon,
I have recently purchased a late 2012 27" iMac and would like to add some peripherals.
I am looking for a USB 3.0 hub and a multi card reader.
I have seen lots of posts about USB hubs (the joys of a google search) that either arent recognised as 3.0 or are on American sites. (Am based in the UK).
I know there is a card reader on the back of the iMac, but only for SD and I would prefer to not have to keep turning the monitor round to reach it.  (I still have xD cards that I use).
Without being too picky, I dont want 'ugly' units. Dont want to make a beautiful machine look ugly when surrounded by lots of horrible looking external add-ons.
Does anyone have any recomendations of hubs / readers, or even ones to steer clear of?
    Thanks very much.
    Karen

    Thanks for trying but ...
No, I can't see the drive when booted up with Cmd R.
I don't have a USB hub to test on.
I'm just tried resetting the PRAM as you suggested.
    No change.
Any other ideas gratefully accepted, otherwise, I can book into the genius bar thingy - no idea if that will be of use.  I work in IT so I'm fairly handy though there are many mac specific commands & tricks I'm not aware of.

  • CS2 won't open files from card reader

Suddenly CS2 on my eMac will not open files imported from CF card reader. I have tried two different card readers and three different CF cards with the same result:
"Could not complete your request because of on unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found."
Tried to open JPEG's and Raw files with same error message.
Elements 4.0 gives same message. Bridge will display icon only (JPEG or NEF) but will not display image. Both CS2 and Elements 4.0 will open old stored files without problem.
Replaced the Adobe/Unit Types file, but no help. There is no CD/DVD in the drive.
The images on the CF cards are not damaged. I know this since they will open in CS2/Elements on my lap top (Mac Book).
The files will open in Preview if I try Preview first. However, if I try to open them in Photoshop first and then in Preview, I get an error message from Preview also.
    What have I done now?!?
    TJ

    >
    "It's a eMac 17 inch with 1.7 Ghz."
There were no eMacs made with 1.7GHz processors.
That may seem like I'm just being picky for the heck of it, but when it comes to computing and troubleshooting and asking questions, the details
    matter
. In this case, probably not so much. But being sloppy about details is a bad habit to get into.

  • My mid 2010 Macbook pro running OSX 10.8.4 sd card reader will not work

I have a Macbook Pro 13" mid 2010 model running OSX 10.8.4.  I don't use the card reader very often so I can't tell you the last time it worked, but I have used it a few times without issue.  (probably not for at least a year though)
I searched the forums and it seems this was an older problem with lots of suggested fixes.  I tried blowing air through the slot and I also went looking for XQuartz but cannot find it under my utilities.  (I assume it must be in the X11 category that is no longer supported under 10.8.4?)
I have tried putting it in all the way and pulling it out slightly as one person suggested and that also did not work.
Any ideas?  For the first time in a long time I need the card slot and it doesn't feel like cooperating.  LOL
edited to add that I am trying to access a Sony SDHC 32GB card model SF-32NX
    Thanks in advance,
    Wayne

If you haven't already done so, eject the card by dragging its icon to the Eject icon in the Dock (where the Trash icon usually is.) Make sure the write-lock switch on the card is in the unlocked position. Then reinsert the card and test.
If there's no change, and the same happens with more than one card, the card reader is stuck in write-locked mode. I don't generally advise do-it-yourself hardware repair, but one ASC member managed to fix this problem. I haven't tried the fix myself and I can't offer any guidance beyond what's in that discussion. If you cause damage, don't expect your warranty to cover it. I suggest you instead make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • CAC Card Reader not working on 1 of 2 computers

I have an iMac 20-inch early 2009 and a MacBook Pro early 2011. I have installed OSX 10.8.5 on both. I followed the instructions to the letter from http://militarycac.com/ on both computers. I am able to use my SCR331 reader successfully on my MacBook Pro but am not able to use it on my iMac.
    On the iMac:
I am able to see the SCR331 is conencted and recognized via System Information. The SCR331 version is 5.25 (updated firmward as suggested at ttp://militarycac.com/)
I attempted to install Centrify (which did not work) so I chose CaCKey instead, which installed just fine
When I plug the reader in, the light lights up steady. When I insert my CAC it does not blink like it should. The CAC certificates do not show up in Keychain either.
When I unplug the reader from my iMac and plug it into my MacBook Pro, it works just fine... I'm missing something somewhere........
Any help wold be greatly apprecitated! Thank you!

    I forgot to add:
On my previous version of OSX (unfortunately I can't remember which I upgraded from) I was able to use my CAC Card reader on my iMac. So, after upgrading to 10.8.5 I was no longer able to use it with the OSX native software. I wonder if some of the settings I had to tweak (when using the old OSX) are affecting this problem now...
I had never tried using my reader on my MBP previously.

  • [SOLVED]Laptop Internal SD card reader no longer working

Two weeks ago I purchased a Raspberry Pi and set up my own SD card with Arch Linux ARM using the directions at http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi with the internal SD card reader on my laptop and had no issues.  Today I decided to load up a XBMC distro to a new SD card, but my internal card reader doesn't seem to autodetect or mount my new card.  I tried inserting my other card with Arch ARM that I know is a good card, but it no longer works with that card either.  Here are all my logs that I could think of to post for any advice:

It seems I have all the necessary information, but I am not sure where to go from here.  It's obvious my laptop is detecting the card being inserted and removed, but the card reader is never listed in /dev so I can't mount it.  It's listed under lspci but not under lsusb.  I'm assuming that it was two weeks ago and that's why it worked, but I'm not sure how to get lsusb to detect it so it will work again.  Thanks for any help you guys have.

  • I can no longer see my card reader

I can no loger see my card reader in finder or iphoto in the last month. Everything was working fine and then nothing. Its no the reader as it works on other macs and in windows mode on my mac so that rules out any usb fault.
    Any ideas.

The exclamation point occurs when iPhoto breaks/loses the file path to the original file.  So try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot AND
the option to rebuild the small thumbnails.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • SOLVED: 1030NR - SD Card Reader launches Found New Hardware Wizard when media is inserted

I purchased the HP Mini 1000 1030NR a few days ago and have been very happy with it so far.  Last night I attempted to use the integrated SD card reader to view some photos from my digital cameras SD card.  When I inserted the card into the drive, Windows did its normal hardware initializations.  It should have detected and installed the SD Card Reader automatically, but instead I was presented with the "Found New Hardware" wizard.  Every attempt to install the driver automatically via the Wizard failed.  Every SD card I tried in the reader produced the same results.
After spending 2 and a half hours online with HP support, their eventual resolution was to do a full System Restore.  As owners of the HP Mini 1000 will know, this process is made difficult due to the units lack of a DVD-ROM drive.  Furthermore, the problem here is clearly a missing driver.  Doing a System Restore as suggested would be like swatting at a fly with a cinderblock.  It may resolve the problem, but there is a much more straightforward way.
The problem is that due to the nature of the XP installation on the 1030NR,(scaled down for performance/size reasons), the linkage between recognized hardware and the internal Windows driver respository has been broken, at least as far as USB devices are concerned.  I found this out after the same HP support technician suggested I uninstall all of my USB Root Hubs from Device Manager and reboot.  Those never came back either.  Fortunately I had created an XP restore point beforehand and quickly got my USB ports back.  Of course, my SD card reader still didn't work.
The solution is to restore that linkage between recognized hardware and the internal Windows driver repository so that the operating system can "find" the USB drivers and in turn, install the necessary software components for the SD card reader.  Instructions for doing this are as follows:
    1.  Insert an SD card into the SD card reader.  The "Found New Hardware" Wizard will appear.
    2.  Check the radio button to not allow Windows Update to search for software.  Click Next.
    3.  Check the radio button to "Install from a list or specific Location (Advanced).  Click Next.
    4.  Check the radio button to "Search For the Best Driver In These Locations.  Then click the checkbox "Include this location in the search."
    5.  Click the Browse button and navigate to "C:\Windows\inf"  If you cannot navigate to this folder you may type it in the box manually.  Click Next.
    6.  Follow the remaining on-screen prompts to complete the software driver installation.  You may receive an error code at the end indicating that the device could not start.  Disregard this for now.  Once driver installation has been completed, reboot the computer.
    7.  Once the system is back up, the "Found New Hardware" wizard will probably reappear.  If it doesn't, make sure the SD Card Reader has a card inserted in it.  Cancel the Found New Hardware wizard and click Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware tab - Device Manager and look for entries with either an exclamation point or a question mark.  You'll probably see the SD Card Reader with an exclamation point and an "Unknown Device" with a question mark.
    8.  For the SD card reader, right click on it and select "Update Driver..." from the list of options.  Follow steps 2 through 6 above to complete installation.  At the end, the card reader should be functional (you can see it in Windows Explorer, etc.) but you'll still have an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.
    9.  To resolve the "Unknown Device", once again go to Device Manager, right click on the Unknown Device entry, click Update Driver and follow steps 2 through 6 above.
    10.  One final reboot and the SD card reader should be functional and no ? or ! warnings/errors should be present in Device Manager.
The reason for this issue in the first place is most certainly due to the way Windows XP is configured on the HP Mini 1000.  Although this solution works for the 1030NR, it should also work for models in the same family that contain the 2-in-1 SD card reader.  HP really needs to provide an official fix for this issue, preferably a "patch" that re-establishes the linkage between recognized hardware devices and the internal Windows XP driver repository.  Their official support suggestion of doing a complete System Restore to solve the problem is impractical, heavy handed, and may in fact not solve the issue.
It took me nearly 5 hours total to resolve this problem.  I hope this post saves somebody both time and trouble.

C:\Windows is the default folder for the Windows XP installation on the 1030nr.  Unless changed during installation, all PC's (not just mini's) that have XP installed will have this folder present.  As for the inf folder specifically, this is hidden from view in Windows Explorer unless you tick the option to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" from Tools - Folder Options - View tab.
Still, you shouldn't need to "see" this folder for the above instructions to work.  When running the "Found New Hardware" wizard, you can just type the path in manually at the appropriate spot.  If you truly do not have a C:\Windows\inf folder, then it sounds like something is wrong with your Windows installation and a full System Recovery may be the best option.  It might be a good idea to contact HP support first before donig that though.
Does your Mini run Windows?  If not, unfortunately the instructions I laid out above will not help you.  I believe the "other" Mini's run some HP customized version of Ubuntu Linux.  For that OS, you'll need to obtain a driver specifically for it to get the card reader working.  Try the HP site for a download for the SD card reader or contact support.

I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre, purchased only four weeks ago.  It product family is IdeaCentre k410, machine type 10089.  Anyhow, the problem is: I inserted a microSD / microSDHC, both of which seem to fit into the slot fine, though neither registers under anywhere in windows explorer, neither in the root of C://, nor in any of the subdirectories, or on the main listing of mounted file systems.  I used the Lenovo Driver Updater and re-installed the SD Card Reader driver, to no avail.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.  As well, the computer runs Windows 8, which has some features I'm unhappy with, and although this is not a windows forum and I don't mean to create a thread that deviates from lenovo-specific topics, I was wondering if there is anything in either the machine architecture or the software of Windows 8 that could hinder m in installing a dual-boot system so that I might have the option of running a variant of linux as a sub-operating system, as I did with windows XP.?????  OK any help at all would be so greatly appreciated, thank in advance.  I really want to be able to retrieve some writing files I have stored in that micro SDHC card.  As another aside, does anyone know the max limit of RAM this computer can take and if it is DDR or some other type?

    hi BrokenHalo,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    Regarding your questions:
    1. When you inserted the SD card, do you hear a sound that a device is inserted and under Device Manger, do you see a Card Reader?
    If not, try to:
    a. boot intto the BIOS by pressing F1, load defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
    b. Reseat the front panel connectors (see page 23 of the hardware maintenance manual)
    2. To install linux (i.e. Ubuntu), see if you can install Ubuntu via UEFI. If you're unable to do so or if you want to install other OS, try to:
    a. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 and set the following settings below
    UEFI Boot Mode = Legacy
Secure Boot = Disabled  (if applicable)
CSM = Disabled /  Legacy or Other OS (if applicable)
OS Optimized Default = Disabled or Legacy (if applicable)
    b. When finished, press F10 to save and exit BIOS then try to install Ubuntu via Wubi or insert your Windows installation disc to install a different OS.
    3. As per this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo K410 has a max RAM of 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3  but Crucial reports that this unit can take up to 16GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 - check this site.
    Hope this helps

  • Archlinux installed on SD card not booting w/o external card reader

Hello, this is my first time here, so hopefully I don't sound too much like an idiot.
I've been trying to install Archlinux to an 8GB SDHC cards (Tried on two different ones, Kingston and Polaroid).  I'm doing this via an Archlinux live CD on my Desktop (HP m9040n with Windows 7) through it's built-in SD Card reader.  The install goes nicely, and I can boot from the SD card alright on my desktop.  However, when I put the card into my ASUS eeePC 900's SD card slot, it won't boot, showing:
Buffer I/O error, dev sda, sector 16015344
Root device '/dev/disk/by-uuid/[UUID]' doesn't exist. Attempting to create it.
ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor nubmer of root device '/dev/disk/by-uuid/[UUID]'
You are being dropped to a recovery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
    sda is the SD card.
Now for the fun part, when I put the SD card into a USB all-in-one card reader, and hook that up to the eeePC, it boots fine.  I followed the USB guide on the wiki site, and it boots alright on anything but the eeePC built-in card reader.  Please help   Let me know what other information you need.  Thanks in advanced.

ok... so im in the exact same boat.. trying to get Archlinux on an SD card with xbmc.  had some trouble in the installer but figured it out after looking at this board and the various wikis.  however i am having the exact same issue.  i now have usb hook enabled and detecting and mounting the SD card.  however it just hangs shortly after this and after about 5 minutes will just start to work and boot normally.
this is unacceptable for a media system, and not sure what the cause is... casual.formality, did you find a solution?
    thanks.
just wanted to add that im using the latest netboot installer and using UUID, system is an acer aspire revo.

  • HP GS60 - SD Card Reader Not functioning or visible in My Computer

    HP GS60 Product Number FS184UA
    Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (32 bit)
    Serial number (S/N):     2CE835J6V5
I'm an avid photographer.  I have run Windows 7 since shortly after it came out.   I have been using the reader regularly since Nov 2009.    (actually, I was using it earlier under Vista as well). In December 2011 the internal SD Card Reader on the HP G60-120US ceased to function.  I insert a SDHC card and it does not show up in my computer.
Right or wrong I've taken the following actions to try and resolve this issue:
    1) Reinstalled Realtek USB 2.0 drivers from the HP site.
2.) Reflashed the BIOS.  It was already at the current version F.54 A - I reflashed it anyway.
3). Deleted all devices under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and allowed them to readd automatically.
The re-add of the USB controllers went well enough although it did not solve the problem.
Confirmed that my SDHC cards are good by both using multiple cards in the slot and, when that didn't work, I inserted the cards back into the camera and connected the cards to the computer via a USB cable to the camera.  That worked fine (not desirable as it's so much slower).
Confirmed that all my standard USB ports worked fine by attaching other devices to it.  They work fine.
What might be relevant is that I do not see anything under disk drives that would look similar to this:
    Generic SD/MMC
Should there be? I'm not certain.
If there should be, how can I get it readded back in?
Currently, the only item under disk drives is the ATA drive where the o/s resides.
What is the proper device related entry for the SD card reader for the HP GS60-120US that should be present in the Device Manager?
I cannot tie the failure to any particular software change.  While I used the card reader often I do not use it daily.  A windows update could have come in, disturbed things but I might not have become aware of the impact to the card reader even if it was an update that did it.

    Hi @rlstockwell
I understand that you are looking for some help in how to use the SD reader on your notebook. I am happy to help with this.
I would recommend taking a look at this page from windows.microsoft.com. If gives an overview of how to do things.
    Using flash memory cards
Let me know if that works for you, or if you need more.

  • Is it possible to install a 3G SIM card reader to Satellite M645-S4070

    Hi there!
I have Satellite M645-S4070 laptop with serial no. YA153766K.
It is WiMAX ready and also has a SIM card slot but does not have a SIM card reader.
I took a slight look inside and it does have something that has "3G" written on it.
Would it be possible to install a SIM card reader to my laptop?
I know, that I could also use a 3G USB modem but it would be a lot more convenient to get connection without additional devices around my laptop.
    Thanks!
    Taros

    Hi
As far as I know there are models which supports 3G or Intel 4G WiMAX
    Your unit supports 4G (WiMAX)
Im not quite sure if its possible to upgrade this unit with an 3G module but if it would be possible, this needs to be done by Toshiba authorized service technician.
By the way: your notebook belongs to the Toshiba US series and was released for the US market therefore I recommend checking the Toshiba US forum:
