Add-ons webpage keeps opening

Since I upgraded to Firefox 4 last weekend, the add-ons page keeps opening in a new tab - usually when I first launch Firefox but also when I visit other websites.

It's possible that the page is included in the home page setting.
Have a look at the illustration here and compare it with your own configuration:

• Add ons does not open

Have problems with flash sites, after following the complete uninstall and delete instructions for flash, re-starting computer and re-installing, problems were still there, then tried to uninstall realplayer plugin, and noticed add-ons didn't open. It Does open in safe mode though, managed to uninstall rp plugin, but problems still exist. Re-installed firefox, didn't help either.

Nevermind, found the culprit: Tab Mix plus! Everything is fine again!

• Add-ons won't open

I'm really hoping someone can help me. It started yesterday when i first came onto the internet i noticed the add-on (Band Thunder) was blank at the top of my screen where there should be a personalised banner. I tried accessing my add-ons to disable it but all i keep getting is "Warning: unresponsive script" which i clicked "Stop script" but nothing happens, i still can't open my add-ons and i can't remove the warning box either, nothing else is affected just this. Can anyone help? Thanks

Do you have the Persona Plus add-on? version 1.6 of that add-on is causing havoc with add-ons.
Try starting Firefox in safe mode, you should then be able to access the add-ons manager, if you have Personas Plus you can disable or uninstall it whilst in safe mode. If you do not have Persona Plus, you can try disabling the other add-ons to identify what one is causing the problem. For more details see Troubleshooting extensions and themes.

• I just updated to Firefox 4.0 and how do I change the Add-ons window from opening in a tab (I prefer the old window style)?

After updating to Firefox 4.0, I am unable to get the Add-ons tab (ctrl-shift-A) to open in a separate window like it did in 3.6. Where may I find the option/plugin/addon to be able to do this?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

• Were do suspicous add-ons Download Keeper come from?

Today, I noticed an advertisement on a page I visited. This advertisement was labelled "Download Keeper" and showed a few pictures with products and prices in dollars. I didn't expect such advertisements on the site in question and so I looked more closely at it.
In the mark-up, I find a lot of elements containing classes starting with SF_ like SF_IIAD_EXPL and url's starting with http://www.superfish.com. Also, some javascript files are loaded from http://rvzr-a.akamaihd.net.
Then, I looked at my add-ons and found 4 suspicious ones:
DDoowload keeper 1.6
DoWnlOad KeeEper 1.6
Download keeper 1.6
DownnlOadd KeepEr 1.6
How could these have come here? I certainly didn't add them intentionally. Will they have come in with some software installer? Is there some way I can prevent these types of add-ons to be installed?

Sometimes when you download and install software it includes a bundle of undisclosed programs...
I suggest disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized add-ons on these two tabs:
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category<br>Set unimportant plugins to "Never Activate"
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category<br>Click Disable for unimportant or unwanted extensions
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Although you may be tempted to remove some of them immediately, before doing that, I suggest seeing whether some more general malware scans will clean them up so they don't get re-injected into Firefox. This article has a range of free tools you can use for that: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

• Flash update messed up FF Add-ons and the Open New Tab button.

FF told me that I needed to update Flash, so I said OK. Whereupon all of my FF Add-ons disappeared. Seems that FF needed to check with the mother ship to find out if everything were compatible with this new Flash update--but the mother ship was not available (this has happened several times).
Why didn't FF check on the compatibility issues BEFORE getting the Flash update?!
I will remove Flash (did this in the past, and the lost functionalities were no big deal). I will also change the settings on FF so that the program won't do this again. (I periodically go see about FF updates myself and try to sit on FF while the updates are being done.)
BTW ... I had FF set to NO DOWNLOAD/UPDATE anything until/unless I have the OK. The past few weeks, I've gotten constant notes from FF telling me to get FF6.0. I was almost ready--but not quite ready--and yesterday FF updated itself. NO OK from me.
As I type this, I've finally gotten all of my FF Add-ons and other mods back. And it looks like my bookmark tabs are all squared-away again, too. (The AddNewTab button completely disappeared.)
So, this is no longer a question for you that could use an answer. Instead, I'd like you to pass my frustrations along to the development crew. I HATE the uncertainty/instability of my Firefox Add-ons and Stylish mods. (I'd rather just skip them.)
I understand that the Add-ons are not the work of Mozilla (not like the browser program itself, anyway) and that the job of getting everything to work together must be insanely difficult. So I'm not wanting to complain about the compatibility hassles here--I'm complaining about the need to watch FF carefully to make sure FF doesn't jump up and do something that I don't want. That and the fact that I have to remember that FF will change my system BEFORE checking to see if it's going to make a mess for me.
I only recently returned to Firefox and started using some of the Add-ons again. I love them. But I don't think I'll ever use more than 6 or so Add-ons because of the constant problems with updates like this mess today with Macropedia's Flash. The one thing I don't want in a browser is problems.
Thanks for your attention here ...
Jack

I'm sorry to hear that you have so many issues. What version of Firefox were you using before?
The double title bar issue has been identified as an issue with the Tax Mix Plus extension but it doesn't affect everyone, it's an interaction with something else (not exactly clear what, although Norton Toolbar was mentioned in one thread).
There is a new version available that you could try. If Firefox is stable enough to do it...
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > "gear" icon > Check for Updates
If your beta version won't update, you could try installing from the add-ons site.
More generally, could I suggest disabling as many extensions as you can live without for 24 hours, and re-enable them gradually? This should help isolate interactions between them. As you know, you can do that here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Finally, regarding your old session, if you haven't closed Firefox, you might find a sessionstore.bak file in your profile folder that contains your old session. To easily access that folder, try
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Grab a copy of that file and save it somewhere outside the folder because it is overwritten when you close Firefox. Got to run, but if you find one with an appropriate date, someone can help you restore it.

• After a recent update, everytime I open Firefox, the Add-ons dialogue box opens on top of the home page. How can I stop it from opening each time?

The question contains all the information I can provide

Ok I found a solution that worked for me, I simply dragged the user.js and the user.js.BAK to the desktop, before that I had done the same with the prefs.js and prefs.js.BAK, but that didn't help, so it's apparently the user file that was an error with.
It was the link from cor-el that helped me on the way http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved It's at the bottom titled User.js file locks certain preferences. This article can also help https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Preferences%20are%20not%20saved
It have still not made a new user.js file, but everything runs fine, hope this can help others to.

• Firefox 36.0.1 on Mac running Yosemite 10.10.2 hangs when trying to open Add-ons Manager

I am running Firefox 36.0.1 on an iMac with Yosemite 10.10.2. Firefox is working fine except that it hangs and forces me to Force Quit the application every time I try to choose Add-ons from the Tools menu. I have never had this problem before. This problem has happened for three straight days with my iMac being restarted several times. The same problem happens when trying to access Add-ons from the Open menu icon. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks!

If you put this into the url bar: about:addons
does this also happen? If not, add the icon back and remove it to reset it.

Does it also happen in Safe Mode?

• Foxfire 6.0 add-ons manager not working, says "loading", get nothing, now what?

Just received an update and some add-ons were disabled. Clicked on "Tools", "add-ons". Tab opens and says "Loading" but nothing loads and I can't do anything with add-ons manager. Is there a fix?

Thanks for the suggestions. When you click on Tools and then Add-ons, theAdd-on Manager launches, and by default "Get Add Ons" is selected. Although I was not getting any response other than "Loading", if I then click on Extensions or Appearance or Plugins, I was getting a proper response from those three. After doing that and closing out Add-ons Manager and then relaunching it, my original problem disappeared. Now everything works fine. I tested it multiple times and is still OK. Can't explain it but OK for now. Maybe the Get Add-ons portion of the Web site was down at the times I was testing it? I'll keep a watch on it. Thanks for your speedy reply.

• Firefox keeps freezing when I try to open the add-ons menu.

When ever I try to open the Add-ons menu under Tools on my firefox, it keeps freezing. I also noticed that my time clock that is normally on the bottom right of my firefox window is no longer there either.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
You can also try to delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.
See "Corrupt extension files": http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
If you see disabled extensions that are not compatible on the next start in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button to do a compatibility check.

</blockquote>
Solved it shortly afterwards thanks as I realised it must have happened when I refreshed Firefox, so went through the process again and found the boxes for tabs already pre-ticked so cancelled them. Would have been a lot easier though had it been left as an option to tick as I assumed it was another safeguard leaving me with no idea what had happened....
Anyway thanks :-)

• Firefox keeps opening the Add-ons page

Whenever I launch Firefox or open a new tab, the add-ons page opens. This has been happening since I updated to Firefox 4 a few days ago. I've tried disabling all the add-ons I have but it makes no difference. I've also turned off updates for add-ons, that didn't help either.
I'm running Windows XP.
Thanks.
