I download the Alpha Transitions that Apple made free for download to their website, now I need help getting them into Final Cut Pro 7 so I can use them... How do I do that?

Cross dissolve is the default transition. It's applied with Cmd-T.

How do you type on a text transition on Final Cut Pro X?

I am having trouble figuring out how to type on the ink splats title. Please give instructions that include where the buttons are, as I am just starting to use Final Cut Pro X.

Move the playhead to where the text appears. Double click on each word to edit the Title and Subtitle separately. You can also click on the words and drag them on the screen to reposition them if necessary. When you double click on the words, you can also alter their respective text properties by going into the Text inspector and changing the available aspects for each text element (like font, size, etc...)

How to Install Alpha Transitions into Final Cut Studio?

I downloaded the Alpha Transitions and now have a folder on the desktop named Alpha Transitions that has sub-folders. How do I install them in Final Cut Studio? I couldn't find any instructions.

Since the transitions are just media, I keep them with the rest of my media used for editing; in a folder on my media drive.

Alpha Channel issue Final Cut Pro 7 to Premiere Pro & FCP X

I have an Apple Pro Res 4444 file that is not read in Premiere Pro as having an Alpha Channel.
The file was not was not automatically detected. But it was read in FCP 7 as having an Alpha Channel after I changed the preferences in to Alpha Type 'Straight'.
After I sent the XML data to FCP X and Premiere Pro they would not recogise the alpha channel even though I changed the preferences.

I agree - it is just that currently Premiere Pro does not display the transparency of the file in the viewer by showing checkerboard where the file is transparent, like FCP can do. It always shows the clip over black. If you are used to seeing the transparency this might throw you off.
Next version of Premiere fixes this, and displays checkerboard where the file is transparent.

Creating Closed Captions in Final Cut Pro

Does anyone have any reference information on adding Caption Files to Final Cut Pro?

The caption file gets imported to the track.
The file must be in the correct format - see the section in the manual.
The timecode of the track or mpeg asset must match the timecode of the master used for the captioning.

Fade Out to White in Final Cut Pro (FCP)

Could someone please show me how to do add a fade-to-white transition in Final Cut Pro (FCP)? (Instead of black, which is default.) I want to be able to do both: 1) fade to white; 2) and white to the picture. An example clip:

Effects > Video Transitions > Dissolve> Dip to Color Dissolve ... add it at the start and end
Double click the transition at the start (the Fade In) to open it in the Viewer and change the Color property to White. For extra credit you can change the Start value to 50%. Then double click the transition at the end (the Fade Out) to open it in the Viewer and again change the Color property to White. For extra credit change the End value to 50%.
Or another way would be to use Effects > Video Generators > Matte > Color Solid to create a "White" clip and then use that to dissolve into and out of your edit using a regular Cross Dissolve transition or by placing the Color Solid on another layer and the keyframing the opacity.

Encore CS3 and Final Cut Pro

Is there any way to import chapter markers into Encore from FCP, or do I have to recreate them all from scratch in Encore?
I have a feature-length movie I added chapters to in Final Cut Pro. I then exported it as QuickTime with DVD Studio Pro chapter markers included, then transcoded it using Compressor.
Importing the resulting audio and video files into DSP results in the expected Chapters in the timeline, but bringing the assets into Encore does not. I also tried exporting the QuickTime movie from FCP with the "All Markers" option, but that didn't work either.
I want to give Encore a chance over DSP due to the better integration with Photoshop and AE CS3 for motion menus and menu animation... but I'm currently using a Final Cut Studio-based workflow, and there doesn't seem to be support for that in Encore. I don't even see any mention of Final Cut in the Encore manual.
Note that I'm using Encore CS3 on Windows. FCP... is of course on my Mac.

Final Cut Pro X crashes when adding transitions, throughout the entire program.

I've had FCP X installed for a few weeks now, and I decided to hold back asking my question and see if anybody else is experiencing the same problems.
I did find one matching problem on the discussions forum, but the user found a solution which I tried, and did it did not work.
Everytime I try to add a very simple transition to my video in Final Cut Pro X, it gives me the spinning colorwheel, hesitates for a few seconds and then crashes.
It only does it with transitions, I can add effects, adjust color, etc. but only when adding transitions does it crash.
I've tried deleting events and original media, I've reimported using optimized media, I've tried both ways of keeping files in original locations and also copying to final cut events folder.
The video I'm using is full 1080p mov files from a Canon 5D Mark II.
It does it in the timeline as well as the secondary timeline.
I've tried the solution that the previous asker did, which was copying the content to another FCP event, and it didn't work for me. Still crashes whether I try to drag the transition to my timeline, use the keyboard shortcut, or double click.
I have a Early 2010 15 inch MBP i5 with 8gb of RAM running newest version of Snow Leopard.

Same Issue: Added a transition and then beach ball from **** and crash. Also lost two hours of work when it restarted and reverted to the last planned quit.
FCPX is benched until Lion and updates. Don't have time to be a beta tester on what might end up being a hobbyists toy.

How do I create or export a logo in Illustrator CS5 with an alpha channel to use in Final Cut Pro 6?

To anyone who can help:
I have created a logo using Illustrator CS5 and need to import it into a video sequence in Final Cut Pro 6. The logo has a transparent background. It seems FCP 6 will import both native .ai files as well as .tiff files, but when I open them in FCP 6, the alpha channel (transparent background) is no longer there; there is just the logo over a white background. Is there a setting or step I am missing?

I have to insert AI images into Final Cut Pro and Motion quite frequently.
The most effective way I've found to get an AI image into Final Cut is to:
1. Select/copy all the objects in the AI doc.
2. Create a new file with a transparent background in Photoshop and paste.
3. Merge the layers and make sure the mode is RGB.
4. Save out as a .PNG or .PSD.
5. Drag the result into Final Cut (or Motion).
6. Resize and position the result to taste.
Attempting to export directly from AI to .PSD or .PNG is a wasted effort and the results may not even be recognized by Final Cut.
Yes, it requires Photoshop and it is a few extra steps...but it works like a charm.
Additionally, when creating a new file in Photoshop, you may want to initially set its size to match the aspect ratio of your video. For example, if you're making an HD video, you might set the size to 1280x720 and position the AI elements where they are supposed to be in frame. You can set the AI elements in accurately by cutting and pasting a frame from your video into Photoshop and positioning the AI elements in place on another layer above the video layer. Delete the video layer before saving out as a .PNG or .PSD and it will appear in Final Cut exactly where it should be.

Chapter 7. Page 269. Exploring Audio Transitions. Selecting two audio clips, then control-clicking the clips. The dropdown menu to Create Storyline or (Command G) is greyed out. The function no longer seems to be available. I've found other functions that no longer apply with the latest version in relation to the book, and I assume that this is another one. But I'm trying to follow the book the best I can. I know there's a workaround. I can simply select an edit point and add the cross dissolve (Command T), but I wonder if this accomplishes the requested exercise from the book.

Final Cut Pro transitions edit window problem

I am totally new to Final Cut Pro and when I click on the transition from the timeline the transition window appears in the canvas window but the bottom half of the transition edit window does not appear. Any ideas? It shows the transition down the the bar with start and end and then bellow that it's all gray.

Transition issues in trial version of Final Cut Pro

Help...I have a trial version of Final Cut Pro and all the transitions stop at a maximum of 20 frames - I cannot seem to expand them to longer. I tried different transitions and all stop at 20 frames...is this just a trial restriction or is there a setting that I need to change. I already tried adjusting the default transition setting but that made no difference
