Adding another iPod - can I avoid upgrading to iTunes 6?

My wife has a Mini and we are using iTunes 4.90.17 + iPod Updater 2006-06-26 + QT 6.52 on a XP Pro/SP2 machine with NIS 2005. The Mini is set for manual control and everything works fine right now.
I just got a Nano and don't want to risk all the problems I've been reading about on this board (and elsewhere). How can I add the Nano to the system without upgrading to iTunes 6 and QT 7? Can I just plug in the Nano and have the 6-26-2005 version of iPod Updater set up the Nano, or do I need to use the Updater version that came with the Nano?
We just move music to the iPods manually and don't have time to fix any serious problems. Any ideas?
Thanks,

hi Sarah!
Can I just plug in the Nano and have the 6-26-2005 version of iPod Updater set up the Nano, or do I need to use the Updater version that came with the Nano?
I just checked my copy of 2005-06-26, and it doesn't contain iPod nano Software 1.0. probably best to download, install and run a copy of iPod Updater 2005-10-12 from Apple for the nano setup:

  • Ipod can not sync photos after iTunes upgrade

I upgraded to iTunes 10.0.1.22 a few days ago. I plugged in my ipod and get the message, "ipod can not be synced. required folder can not be found" and after this message another, "...device cannot be found" I have not deleted or moved any folders.
I have never had trouble with syncing my ipod before. What's different? any suggestions?

if you guys own Aperture, a new update just fixed my issues.
I didn't even think Aperture was an issue since I never selected to sync using aperture. But now my iPhoto options are not grayed out to select partial library options, and the full library sync finally shows my accurate 12.8 gigs of space in the colored device fill bar at the bottom of iTunes sync.
    Issue RESOLVED.

  • How can I sync my iPod with another iPod as I use the same iTunes account?

I currently have an iPod Nano and want to go for an iPod Touch soon. My iPod Nano has a lot of iTunes music that I’d rather not have to pay for a second time. How can I get that music on to my new iPod without having to pay for it again?

The best approach would be to register your new iPod to your current iTunes account then sync to the matching library much like your old one. You can learn more about BACKING UP and managing content simply by downloading and reading on your user guide.

  • Ipod can.t sync with new itunes

My itunes software got some problem so i remove it,then download a new one,but can't sync, screen show that one ipod just can sync with one itunes only,so what can i do;reset or what??HELP!

"Screen show that one ipod just can sync with one itunes only"
The message you are getting is due to your iPod being set to automatically update from iTunes (sync), an iPod can only sync with one library. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc. If your new iTunes has the same music as your iPod then pressing "Erase and Sync" will link your iPod to the library and update it with the songs you have on there.
However if your new library is empty choose "Cancel", your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Ipod not connecting after upgrade to itunes 8

After upgrading to itunes 8 my ipod (nano) will no longer connect to my computer and is not recognised by itunes. When I connect the ipod I get the windows 'install new hardware wizard' running but however I try to work through this I get nowhere. Looking at Device Manager in Windows says there are no drivers for the ipod - it has a little exclamation mark next to it.
My wifes brand new ipod will also not connect and its straight out of the box.
Not at all sure what to do next. The support pages don't seem to cover getting the install new hardware wizard. Any help or advice please!.

    Ben888
Having reported this to my dealer, and them agreeing to supply a new lead to try, I had one final attempt at resetting the iPod.
Having restored, reset and updated the iPod half a dozen times before without success, a reset as described here:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
worked and it is now merrily playing again in the car with the original lead.
It would seem that Apple have developed another piece of spectacularly temperamental equipment........and people slate Microsoft!
Hope it works for you as well!

  • 80 GB iPod Classic freezing with upgrade to iTunes 9.2

So, I finally got around to upgrading to iTunes 9.2 and when I plug my 80 GB iPod Classic into my computer (Windows Vista), iTunes freezes. My iPod says it is connected, but it doesn't show up in iTunes and when I plug it in to iTunes I can't listen to any music or do anything in iTunes.
Is there a way to rectify this problem?
    Thanks for reading.

Before you update your iPod, reboot it (hold down middle and top button until the apple logo shows up and then release the buttons) once the iPod menu screens come back then connect to iTunes.

Unless you have DRM still haunting your tunes ... Then you can only use those songs on 5 devices. Otherwise, connect as many as you like (as stated above).
No, you can sync your DRM tracks to an unlimited number of iPods (but only authorized to play on 5 different computers/user accounts)

So I can sync two iPods to my iTunes account and sync the same digital copy movies that come with some o' my DVDs to both ipods? Do movies make a difference really, DRM-Wise? Thanks in advance.

  • IPod Sync Error after Upgrading to iTunes 10 and ios5

    Some help please,
I've upgraded to iTunes 10 and installed ios5 on to my iPod Touch and I cant now sync as iTunes reports that the backup is corrupted or not compatable with the iPod
    Thanks
    Kris

    Dear Mr. Sawyer,
To my surprise, the version is shown as 10.0.1.22. I will uninstall itunes and try loading the same again. After uninstalling do we need to delete any registry entries for Windows XP.
Thanks for your response and concern.

  • IPOD can't be loaded on ITunes, say's that it's registered with another Itu

I just got a new IPOD, 30GB with Video and I sync'd with one of my computers that had some of my songs on it. When I went to sync it with my laptop it wouldn't load my ipod stating that it was registered with another Itunes.
    Any ideas?

You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply.

  • Is there any way to avoid upgrading to Itunes 7 with new generation Ipods?

My Ipod was stolen last week and I need to buy a new one today. To frustrate matters in my grief over Ipod loss, I have tried unsuccessfully many times to download Itunes 7 from Itunes and Software update. It downloads but then when I go to launch it it says it will check to see if it is okay for this computer and decides it is not, and stops. I have downloaded new version of Quicktime and seem to have all the other pre-requisites for installation. After reading a lot of these postings about lost music after upgrading, I'm happy to stay where I am, but assume I will not be able to sync new Ipod with version 6??
Does anyone have any advice on what else to do? Also, do you know if I should be able to download my library (over 2000 songs) on to new Ipod and if there is anything I should know about doing this that you have already learned?
Thanks. I don't know a lot about computers and software but I do love my Mac and Itunes and I'd love to not spend all weekend on this.

From this page http://www.apple.com/ipod/specs.html it indicates that you will need iTunes 7 or higher.

  • EEM/SSH onto another device: Can I avoid password in cleartext?

    Hi All
I would like to create an EEM script on Switch A which ssh's onto Switch B to run a second EEM script.
After looking on the Cisco site and forums, I believe the following would allow me to do this:
    Switch A
    event manager applet Script1
action 1.0 cli command "ssh -l <SwitchB_User> <SwitchB_IPAddress> "event man run Script2"" pattern "word:"
    action 2.0 cli command "<password>" pattern "#"
action 3.0 cli command "exit" pattern "#"
    Switch B
    event manager applet Script2
    action 1.0 mail server "<mailserver>" to "<toaddress>" from "<fromaddress>" subject "<subject>" body "<body>"
Would you be able to help with the following queries:
    a) is the configuration correct?
    b) Is there any way of encrypting the password so that it doesn't appear as clear text in the running/start up configurations?
    Many Thanks!
    John

The configuration looks good as far as EEM is concerned, but you will run into trouble with the SSH password. SSH uses a keyboard-interactive process by default, which is unfriendly to scripting/pasting, so it's most likely that your script will hang after executing the SSH command, never receiving the password prompt.
SSH supports establishing connections without passwords using pre-defined RSA private and public key pairs, but only the server side of IOS SSH supports this. It would be workable if you were running the requests from the Unix/Linux box, but not from IOS.
If you want to be able to quickly execute commands on other routers without transmitting or storing passwords in the configuration, falling back to the older RSH technology might be applicable here. RSH works by establishing trusted connections without authentication, so you need to be careful about how you allow it to connect and what you allow it to do, but it might be just what you need.
Have a look at this link for further information and don't worry about the RCP portion.

  • Music downloaded on my iPod can't be read in iTunes anymore

    Hello,
I've a certain number of songs on my iPod (30Gb Photo) that were downloaded from iTunes - I still have the Music Store Receipts -, that can't be played now on iTunes ... by the side of the song in iTunes there is an exclamation point.
Is there a way to synchronize, or whatever else to get those songs from the iPod back in iTunes ?
    Thank you very much.

The exclamation point means iTunes can't find those songs on your hard drive. Did you move the iTunes folder or the location of songs? Unless you have "Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library" in the Advanced preference panel of iTunes checked, you music will stay wherever it originally was.
So for example, if a song was on your desktop and you put it in your iTunes library, the song stays on the desktop. If you then delete or move the song from the desktop, iTunes won't know where it is, and then show the exclamation icon.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can't I upgrade to iTunes 10.6.3?

I currently run iTunes 10.5.2 on an older Macbook (version 10.5.8).
The other day I connected my iPhone for the iOS 6 update, but was subsequently alerted that it "requires iTunes 10.6.3. Would you like to download iTunes 10.6.3 now?" So I click "Download iTunes," and it brings me to my software updates, but then informs me that my computer is up-to-date and that there is no new software available. Strange contradiction.
Here online, it appears that iTunes 10.7 is now available, but it requires a newer OS X version than the one I'm running. So what does this mean? Am I just screwed now? Has iTunes evolved past me and left me in the dust? Am I no longer allowed to update my software, or my phone?
    What is my work-around?

    iTunes 10.6.3 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
I don't know the details of this (owning an even older computer than you but I don't run any iOS device so I don't really have firsthand experience with what Apple does with them).  In another topic they were saying in order to use iOS 6 you have to be running iTunes 10.7 which in turn requires OSX 10.6.8 or greater.  In your case with a Macbook the solution is simple.  Upgrade your OS. You need to call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775 (telephone numbers for other countries - http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57) and order a Snow Leopard disc.  After you have installed it you do the online update to 10.6.8.
Yes, Apple has left a lot of older Mac users in the dust with the new iOS and new iTunes, but they are all people who run PPC Macs who cannot upgrade beyond OSX 10.5.  Your have to realize that basically any Mac older than 5 years is no longer supported by Apple.  This is not a new policy and yes, likely in the next year or two you too will be left in the dust.  I bet you already cannot upgrade to Mountain Lion with your older computer (can't say for sure not knowing the details).

  • Ipod not recognised after upgrading to iTunes 11.2.2

I upgraded ITunes to version 11.2.2 yesterday afternoon and have tried to update my ipod classic this morning. The ipod is not recognised in ITunes nor does it appear in My Computer. My partner has plugged in her Ipod nano and this is not recognised either. Have done all the recommended troubleshooting, which doesn't work. What's happening? I am using Windows 8 on a brand new laptop.

    Hi 22Archie,
If you are having issues with your iPods not being recognized by iTunes on your Windows machines, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful (apologies if you have already seen it):
