Adding html to an iWeb site published on .Mac

I run my music blog entirely through iWeb and .mac, but unfortunately, in order to get my site onto a listing of music blogs, I need to post some .html on it. I tried opening the files on my iDisk but I don't think I was doing it correctly; if anyone could either explain how to do this, or point me towards a thread that does, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks!

I use the iWebMore tool which basically post-processes the iWeb produced html to insert your own specific html. Read the manual page, at first it seems a little confusing but in reality it couldnt be simpler.
Hope this helps!

  • Moving my iweb site to another mac

Is it possible to move my iweb site from one mac to another? If so how do I do it?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Lucy,
iWebSites is a beta application capable of merging separate Domain files. It gets good reviews in this forum.
You will not overwrite one Domain file with another unless you intentionally replace a Domain file with another, just like any like-named file. Keep your Domain files in their own folders, folders that are named for the sites the respective Domain files contain. Open the Domain file/Site of your choice by first opening it's folder and then double-clicking on the Domain file inside.

  • Hosting Your iWeb Site From Your Mac

If you don't have a .Mac account or you don't want to pay a monthly fee to host your new website you created with iWeb, you can use OS X's built-in Apache Web server. To accomplish this, follow the steps in the link below.

I was able to get this to work, using the same configuration you mention. The way I did it was to set up the IP address on my LAN using fixed static addresses, and to have the router "forward" the http packets to the Mac running Apache. In Network system preferences panel, you also need to set the DNS servers address to the address of the router on the LAN. In order to reduce hackers trying to break in, I don't use the standard port 80 for my address, but use some other 4-digit port (e.g., 8182), so my website address ends up looking like www.whatever:8182. Instead of "no-IP.com" I used the free dynamic name service from http://www.dyndns.com/. I also put the web content on a firewire disk, which requires a little editing of the httpd.conf file. This was another security precaution. Anyhow, its been working great -- not a single problem. Also, Weblock is great shareware that lets you assign login IDs on the web folders.

How to export an iweb site to another mac?

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ as the path, and move iWeb's domain package as desired.

  • IWeb site publishing....

Can someone please help me! I am kinda new to iWeb but, have successfully published sites in the past. I made a couple of changes to one of my sites and tried to publish it but, it is trying to launch it to an existing domain name that I own but, is being hosted by yahoo. Why will it not just publish it as and iWeb site. It is very important that I correct this problem ASAP! I am out of work and a potential job rest on me getting my site launched. Can anyone please help me?

Where do you want to publish your site? To a MobileMe account or to your Yahoo hosting account? If it's the latter you need to give the new site a different name so that it will not overwrite your existing site.
If you're publishing the new site to MMe, click on the site icon in iWeb and change the location of the hosting server in the resulting window.

  • Does iweb only publish to .mac?

can i use iweb to publish to a different host or is it .mac account only?

You can publish your web sites to a folder on your computer and then transfer the files to another web hosting service.
    Apple provide details here :-

  • IWeb site not in .Mac start page

My site used to be in the .Mac home page but I changed the name (just took out 2 underscores) and my site is no longer there. I tried to look on "homepage" but it isn't there either. I "Published to .Mac" and I can log into the site but it isn't visible from .Mac home.

I see. Well, I guess give it some time to show up again in the .Mac homepage. I'm sure it will.
If you are really into counting hits and would like to see the wealth of information that can be gathered on your visitors (and also be able to visit your own page without getting counted), you might like to check out http://www.statcounter.com and add the free counter code to all of your pages.
This takes a little bit of HTML editing, but you can automate this process with a program called iComment or MassReplaceIt.

  • Transfer iweb site to another mac

My hard drive broke and now I have a new one installed. I would like to download/manage my iweb-mobileme site from this new hard drive. How can I sync the new disc with my mobileme?

    tragicoptimist wrote:
How can I sync the new disc with my mobileme?
You can't sync your published iWeb site from MobileMe back to a new disk. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
See also this Apple doc: _iWeb: Backing up your Domain file_
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • IWeb site from second Mac

I have been messing about building another IWeb site on my old G4. If I rename the domain can I just transfer the second domain onto my iMac and run both sites from there. If so how will I be able to open them individually
    Mike

    Mike:
First, if you want to manage the sites from two computers without having to move the domain file(s) manually back and forth between Macs every time you make a change see Toad's Tutorial #20- Managing an iWeb Site From Two or More Macs with Dropbox-.
As long as you down try to work on the site from both computers at the same time (those with split or multiple personalities ) there's no problem.
Now for publishing each individually I use iWebSites to manage over 40 individual sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • How to transfer iWeb site to another Mac in Lion

Does anyone know how I can move my iWeb site from my Macbook Pro to my iMac.  I've transfered the files, but iWeb doesn't see the data.  I've copied the data to the iWeb folder in my User Library thinking that would help as I've read others have done in Snow Leopard.  This doesn't seem to work in Lion.  thanks for the help.  I'm using iLife 11

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Move my Iweb site in two Macs

    Hi,
I've two Macs, i would copy my Sites in both Macs.
    It's Possible ?
    And in which way ?
    Thanks Fabio

Are you looking in the correct Library folder? The one you want is:
If you still don't have an iWeb folder then you've never run iiWeb on that computer.
Another method you can use is to download  Find Any File and use it to search for "domain.site".  FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't, even invisible folders.
In Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
