Error when adding a new node to RAC 10g

Hi all,
I have a RAC 10g environment test in Linux Red Hat Umbreakble 5 with two nodes. This RAC is fine on 2 nodes.
I want to add a new node (rac3) of the following way:
- The node 1 (rac1) is started and the instance ORCL1 is online.
- The node 2 (rac2) is offline. i.e the machine is off.
- The node 3 (rac3). The machine is on and already configured
So that when I execute the CRS_home\oui\bin\addnode.bat on node 1 and put the information of node 3 (Public node name, Private node name, Virtual host name) and press next I get the following message:
OUI-35000: Fatal cluster error encountered (PRKC-1071 Nodes rac2 did not respond to ping in 30 seconds) - Sure: The machine is off;
My question is: Can´t I add a new node on RAC if a node is off ?

Adding new node to the Clusterware fails with the root.sh script.

I had successfully added third node to the existing 2 node cluster. After adding new node I need to run the root.sh scripts, but it was faling with the below error.

The document references posted already are very good ones. However, I would say that on personal experience (on Solaris and 10gR2) that the addnode tools gave me nothing but problems. Luckily, I was able to build a parallel cluster (with three nodes) on other hardware and then move the databases across via DataGuard. It was quicker and cleaner (and easier!) that way...

Error adding new node to treetable automatically

We implemented a page with a treetable. We don't use a ViewObject/Query to build the tree but a pojo method, because we have a complex data model to display on the tree (dynamic tree level, multiple object types on one tree level, etc.). So we created a pojo method to build the tree -> created a data control for this method/class and dragged the method onto the tree component.
In a second step we impemented several buttons on the page to delete nodes, set values, change style, etc. which works fine.
We got stuck extending the page for a function to add a new node. When the tree is displayed for the first time we can add new nodes on every existing node. Adding a node to a new node only works if we decollapse the new node first. We get an error if we create a new node A and then try to add another node on the new node A without decollapsing node A in advance.
As follows the code and the error stack. Any ideas?

Oracle 11g rel 2 GI
on current 2 node cluster we have GI and RAC db configured

we shutdown vmorarac1 to clone it to vmorarac5
on new node I have changed the hostname to vmorarac5
In /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 change ip to new ip and same for /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1

On new node vmorarac5, there is alreay software for RAC DB and GUI cloned from vmorarac1
addnode.sh is used to add existing node, but as part of pre-requisite configuratoin is there any config step missing

The only thing you want "cloned" is the base OS install... The GI home directory, the oraInventory and a whole lot of other stuff is configured at addNode time or cluster install time. I would say that proceeding with your current plans will corrupt your clusterware. You really need to STOP LISTENING to the SA's and START reading the documentation on how to add a node to a cluster. Simply changing the hostname IS NOT a supported "feature".
Start with a CLEAN OS. Configure shared devices, networks, /etc/hosts, memory and packages.
Follow the instructions for addNode.
Doing this any other way has the potential to corrupt your entire cluster.

System architecture check failed while adding a New Node in RAC

Cluster Version:10.2.0.3
database Version:10.2.0.3.0
Due to H/W failure one of our RAC node(prod1) got formatted.
We have deleted the node(prod1) from RAC successfully.
But When i am again trying to add the node and checking prerequistes i am facing the below issue.
$ cd /software/oracle/product/crs/bin
$ ./cluvfy stage -pre crsinst -n prod1,prod2
Check: System architecture

prod1        64-bit                    64-bit                    passed
Result: System architecture check failed.But issue is that prod2 is my active(running node), so how to resolve this issue?

Error in installing Oracle Software while adding node in RAC

Oracle Version: 11.1.0.6.0
Linux
In the RAC environment, I am in the process of adding a node to the existing rac environment.
I have succssfully installed cluster software in the new node. all gsd, ons and vip services are running perfectly for new node in the existing and new nodes.
Next step, I started installing oracle software by executing the script $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/addNode.sh.
Here after specifying the the new node information (public host, private host and vip details) and when I pressed next,
OUI is giving following error - "Error occured while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured".
I ran olsnodes -n, it is giving proper node number.
Can somebody help me in identifying the problem and solution.

I am hitting the same issue, my problem was when I added the new node initially it fails because of the hint8-priv1. I followed the link below to remove and cleanup the last install. olsnode show only my existing nodes NOT including the new node.

1.Ensure that you have successfully installed Oracle Clusterware on at least one node in your cluster environment. To use these procedures as shown, your $CRS_HOME environment variable must identify your successfully installed Oracle Clusterware home.
2.Go to CRS_home/oui/bin and run the addNode.sh script.
3.The Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) displays the Node Selection Page on which you should select the node or nodes that you want to add and click Next.
4.Verify the entries that OUI displays on the Summary Page and click Next.
5.Run the rootaddNode.sh script from the CRS_home/install/ directory on the node from which you are running OUI.
6.Run the orainstRoot.sh script on the new node if OUI prompts you to do so.when i am doing the step 6 on the new node, i am facing the below error..

Say, I have a 3 nodes RAC, I want to add a new node to current cluster... while the new node's CPUs are slower than the others.. what will happen?
(my concern is : can I add this new node successfully? if yes, can it anyway improve the whole cluster performance or not?)

Problem when I extend an oracle rac 10g on new node

Hi everyone
I need to extend an oracle RAC but i have problems when I add a new node. My actual enviroment is:
1) Oracle Grid Infraestructure 11gR2 - 11.2.0.3 (Upgraded from Clusterware 10gR2 + ASM 10gR2)
2) Oracle Rac Database - 10.2.0.5
(all on one only node)
The first problem was when I executed the script "root.sh" on the new node because this script called the old Clusterware home (/oracle/product/10.2.0/crshome). I edited the file and I changed this path for /oracle/gridbase/product/11.2.0/gridhome (current home for GI). Finally, I execute the script.
Now, I tried to extend the rac through of DBCA, but when, I choose the new node and I clic on "next" button then appears the following error:
"The nodes "[rstatbdbpm02]" are not part of the cluster. Make sure clusterware is active on these nodes before proceeding"
However, when I execute the "crsctl" command to view the status of cluster the result is correct:

Hi,
Please check dbca trace logs for further checks, it will give an idea what command is being run to check status of cluster.
Generally first checks should be on inventory for rdbms home, grid home and making sure no ORACLE related parameter is set in environment.

Is it possible to specify the nodenum when adding a node to a RAC database

hi gurus
I have a 10.2 one-node cluster database,the olsnodes show that the current node has nodenum of 2(because I removed the nodenum 1 before because the machine needs to be replaced),now I want to add a new node to the cluster to replace the priviously removed node1,but finally I found that ORACLE will use nodenum 3 for the new node instead of nudenum1,
olsnodes command shows:
+[oracle@rac2 bin]$ ./olsnodes -n+
rac2 2
rac1 3
Is it possible to modify the nodenum or specify the nodenum when adding a new node?

I have found the way to do it. Moidy the rootaddnode.sh to the desired nodenum before running it.It worked.
