Adding new playlist
I have imported a cd into my itunes, I select all the song, but when I try to make a new playlist from the selection I can not. What is the problem?
What exactly are you doing? Are you selecting all the songs and then from the File menu selecting New Playlist from Selection? What error message are you getting? When you say you can't make a playlist, what is happening? The more detail you can provide, the better the answer you're likely to get.

Duplicate songs when adding new playlists
Ok heres the problem and its been going on far too long for me....
Every **** time I want to create a playlist on itunes and then drag it to my ipod I get duplicate songs that show up on my ipod. I know exactly why its happening. Because there are tiny differences from some of the files in the playlist then from when I first added them to my ipod (for example, lets say I added "Purple Haze" to my ipod then later discovered Purple Haze had a space at the end of the title, so I removed it on the file in itunes but NOT on the ipod, and now if Purple Haze is one of the songs in this new hypothetical playlist i've created it will show up on the ipod twice). I get that. Problem is, I have created a playlist now and 10 out of the 50 songs that were on it were I guess changed in some way shape or form since I last added them to the ipod. I tried cancelling it but a few got thru ..and I have no idea which of the 50 songs were the ones that got duplicated. This REALLY infuriates me man because it happens all the time. How can it be 2011 and an ipod cant just recognize these files are the same? Or better yet, just UPDATE the old song automatically with whatever changed about the old file (for instance, if it was Purple Haze with the space on the ipod before, if I throw a playlist from itunes with Purple Haze without the space on it, why cant the ipod just UPDATE the previous file with the space and take the **** space out rather then adding another file). It would also be nice if I could just go to the ipod (when its connected to itunes) and sort by Date Modified or something and see which ones were the ones that were duplicated. But i cant, it just keeps the last modified date of the song on itunes not on the ipod ..i dont know if im making sense here but I really hope someone can "show me the way" because I just refuse to believe that this is just the way it is ..its gota be something im doing wrong here. So please someone, school me!You are just making work for yourself by dragging songs to your iPod manually.
I have manually manage music and videos turned off. I sync my iPods using selected playlists. Whenever I make a change in a selected playlist, it is automatically synced the next time I connect my iPod. If I decide I don't want a particular playlist on my iPod any more, I just deselect it. If I change anything about a song in one of my playlist, the change is automatically synced.

Duplicate Songs On iPod When Adding New Playlist?
Hi All-
I'm experiencing a new problem that is driving me crazy. It seems to have started after the last iPod updater but that could just be coincendence. Now, whenever I copy a playlist from iTunes to my video iPod, it will copy most of the song files as well (not all of them but a good portion) - making many duplicate song entries on my iPod that I then have to go in and delete?
Any ideas?For Authorization issue see:

I'm adding new playlists to my iTunes library but when I connect my iPod it will not update to reflect my new playlists.
Right in front of my face. Thanks I don't know how many times I looked right over that.

iPod 5 was not adding new playlists when synching (plenty of space remained in memory for it). This happened around the time of the new update. I removed all music from the iPod and when I went to resync the selected playlists, my OTHER portion of memory jumped up to 34GB and now there is not enough space on the iPod to put all my music back on.
I've checked the usage of all the apps and photos, etc, it is pretty clear this is because of the music portion only.
Is there anyway of removing this information? Without doing a restore? It is not jailbroken either. An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

I have the IPod Classic. In the past, whenever I connected the IPod to my computer, ITunes automatically added new playlists to my IPod. It no longer does this. How do I copy new "Playlists" to my IPod?

Adding new albums to smart playlist PLEASE HELP
Having a little trouble adding new albums to smart playlist that already exist. Can this be done?
Having a little trouble adding new albums to smart
playlist that already exist. Can this be done?
I am trying to edit smart playlist but songs dont show up, they are in the library. -
Also, I can no longer find my "Recently Added" playlist. I have searched every title in my playlists and its no longer there. It's really frustrating because now if I want to listen to a new playlist that I've added new music to I have to really search for it. Please help! Thank you!
This worked. Yesterday after I logged out - I continued to try to figure it out, and came up with the same solution. I made a smart playlist with both types.
However, I had tried to drop those into the green purchased file yesterday and it would not accept them. Today it works.
Guess it is like a car. It makes a noise, and when you take it to the dealer, it stops making that noise.
I went and looked at all of the songs I had purchased. Some of the more recent songs say Protected. The first five I purchased just say "AAC audio file" but if you look at them in their file, they have the little lock icon on them, as the purchased and protected ones do.. So I dunno... ??
Thanks for the help. -
Trouble Creating New Playlists and Adding Music to iPhone 3GS
Just bought an iPhone 3GS and was manually adding songs to it the way I have with other iPods. No problems. Then, suddenly it wouldn't let me manually add any more songs. It's not a space issue since it's a 16 GB and I only put on about 1 GB of music.
Now, I can create new Playlists in iTunes, but I can't add any songs to them. I also tried adding songs to my old iPod, but that was a no-go as well. Every song I try to add just bounces back into iTunes. Any idea on what may have caused this?Just re-installed the software and restarted my computer. It appears to be working again, for now.

QUESTION: On MacBook 10.6.7, in iTunes 10.3.1, music downloaded from CD, copied from Recently Added, pasted to named New Playlist Folder, is displayed as a list but can later disappear. What am I doing wrong?
Hi, Mylenium,
Thanks for your prompt reply, I'm afraid it hasn't helped. I don't see anything wrong in my device manager.
I have also gone and updated every driver, especially the motherboard chipset and the Sata Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.
Unfortunately, this hasn't made any difference.
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks in advance!

I recently uploaded a live recording to match and it appears (and plays) under "recently added" on the left menu. When I create a new playlist for this music it won't play and has the "ineligible" cloud symbol with slash through it. It must be in the cloud as it's playing now, but the content will not play if moved from "recently added" into a playlist. I'm puzzled. Any help?
Bit rate is 192 kbps
it is an mpeg file
Thanks in advance!I just went back and used Tunesify to convert from mp3 to aac format and it's working now. I've added over 20K to my match library and this is the 1st time something like thas has happened.

I thought as a consumer, Apple works for us. Had I known what I'd lose by upgrading, I would have thought twice!!! I want Front Row BACK!!! also what is this new playlist that was auto added when I upgraded? It's called iTunes Artwork screen?
Think the iTunes artwork playlist is for a new screensave they put in where if you click the album artwork it plays the song.

I created a new playlist and added some songs to another existing one. When I synched with my PC, it loaded the new playlist heading but 0 songs, but did add the new songs to the existing playlist. Repeated the process several times without success.
This earlier post may help.

For me, (long winded way) I drag the playlist from the bottom tree to the iPod branch.
Then select iPod.
Click the music tab on the right window.
click sync tick music
go down to the playlist section and tick the playlist.
Apply.
Good Luck. -
After creating a new playlist, song is added to the playlist multiple times
I have an iPhone 5, and created a new playlist. When I start the playlist, no matter what song I click on, it defaults to the first song in the playlist, and adds about 20 "ghost" copies of the song. I'm running iOS 6.1.4.
Well I fixed it. Opened the playlist, shuffled the song, played a song, unshuffled the playlist, and now it's normal. Weird
