Adding track numbers to a custom mix

I created an album in iTunes, a collection of various songs from my library. If my album consists of 20 songs, is there any way to get iTunes to automatically assign track numbers based on the order of the songs? For example, the second song in the list I would like to say "Track 2 of 20." I don't want to have to edit each song's info and manually add the track number. I want iTunes to automatically make the third song in the list track 3, the fourth song track 4, etc.
Is there any way to do this?
Thank you.

You could check Doug's Scripts (just Google and you'll find it) and you might find a script to do this. Otherwise, the only way I know of is to manually input the information.

  • Manually Adding Track Numbers Doesn't Work!

    I would like to make a "custom album" for an artist, a greatest hits designed by me, if you will. The songs are all by a single artist, but come from various sources. Some were purchased from iTunes Music Store, some were imported directly from CDs, some were MP3 files from my old PC, etc. (you get the idea).
    Anyway, I select all of the tracks, press Command+I to open up the "Get Info" window. For all the tracks at once, I give the album a name ("Best Of Whomever") and manually enter the tracks (1 of 32, 2 of 32, 3 of 32, etc.) I check everything else to make sure there are no inconsistencies between the tracks, as I want all things to be equal. When I'm done, however, there is inevitably a stubborn track (or two or three) that insists on ignoring its assigned track number and placing itself somewhere else in the list. This happens most often with IMS tracks. It's very frustrating and annoying.
    The way around it, of course, is to make a playlist. But without folder support for the iPod, playlists quickly become unmanageable.
    So my point is, if I manually assign a track a track number, it should go where it belongs and not wherever it chooses to. (And remember, before I assigned track numbers, I gave all of the tracks the same album name and info as a group, so there are no inconsistencies from track to track, like wierd spaces or misspellings.) I've tried everything and can't seem to solve this problem.

  • ITunes wipes away track numbers :-S

    Hi,
    I had recently organized all my music with iTunes, and using info tab via Get Info i had added track numbers basically Cold Play - Clocks track number 5 of 11
    Now when i play certain songs, the total number of tracks is wiped away (for example the Cold Play i used above, just displays Track 5 and the 11 is wiped away)
    This is VERY upsetting since i went through a VERY long process organizing all my songs! I would appreciate any help, thanks!
    P.s. I have iTunes 7.5

    Look at the file in Windows Explorer.
    Right-cilck > Get properties
    Sounds like it is set to read-only.

  • Organizing Music Folder is adding multiple track numbers

    When "Keep Music Folder Organized" is checked in Preferences, file names are prefixed with track number. I think there used to be a way to prevent that but I can't find it in the current version (8.2). I could live with the track number prefix, but I now have several cases of the track number being repeated. Here's an example: "1-02 1-02 1-02 Where Did Our Love G". Note that the song name was truncated when the prefixes were added. It hasn't happen to all my tracks, but seems to have happened mostly to those that were imported from .WAV files that I copied from vinyl. Is there a way to prevent this? Is it an iTunes bug? Is there an easy way to remove the prefixes in bulk?

    Success! From this thread...

    see turingtest2's note.
    The part missing that I know works on Macs and may work on Windows, is AFTER you perform that hack, open preferences click on the Advanced tab and then UN-check "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized", then click OK which dumps you out of preferences. Now open preferences again, and reselect (check) the box for "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" and click OK to get out of preferences. On a Mac, at this point iTunes will go through your whole library and fix all the file names to remove the track numbers in front of the song titles in the media files themselves.

  • Adding files and using coverflow changed mp3 track numbers to 49, 50, ect.

    I imported my MP3 library into iTunes 7 and originally everything was fine. After using coverflow to update the album art, all of my track numbers changed. Now the ID3 information for my tracks is labeled as track numbers ranging from the late 40's (48, 49) to the 50's or 60's (58, 59, 60). See the following image. http://www.twofields.com/wrongtrack.JPG
    It's also changed the information in Windows. This image shows that http://www.twofields.com/wrongtrack2.JPG
    Please help; I have over 4000 MP3s and they've all been affected. This has only affected my MP3s, the iTunes music is fine. I originally used musicmatch to label and tag my files.

    "This question is not answered. "Helpful" answers available: 2. "Solved" answers available: 1."
    at the top. How do I find those answers?
    This isn't even there anymore. I don't know what happened to it, but it's gone. I'm not really worried about it though.
    The MP3 Tagger will work good enough, but I really think Apple should release a patch or some way to fix it. This is going to be very time consuming.

  • Accidently deleted track numbers. How do i get them back without manually doing it one by one?

    I was going thru my itunes to try and get it all in order.
    I highlighted an album, get info, checked a few boxes, and i thought all was looking good.
    Then i discovered a heap of songs did not have track numbers.
    I eventually worked out that one of those few boxes i checked was the track number box.
    So now i am missing quite a lot of track numbers.
    Is it possible to to get them back? Or do i need to sit here for days to manually put the track nubers in?
    Please give me good news because its about 20G of music missing track numbers :-(
    Thankyou

    MusicBrainz often isn't that successful, and then there is the problem of getting iTunes to recognize the external update.
    Start with this method to restore your most recent library file that had the correct information.
    Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn off the option to Keep iTunes media folder organized.
    In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. iTunes should now have the correct track numbers, but the files won't be where iTunes expects to find them.
    To fix this new problem use my script FindTracks.
    When that is done use iTunes Folder Watch to catch up with any files that have been added or removed since the backup file was created. Any files added at this stage will probably need their track numbers fixing by hand.
    You can now reenable the keep organized option.
    When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Can't remove track numbers from Music app even though they're deleted in iTunes

    So I've been having an incredibly annoying issue for a while now, and I can't seem to figure it out or why it happens. I have a large amount of singles and misc. songs in iTunes and I decided to file them under one single Artist and Album, both called iTunes. I then have the track name, artist name, and album name all listed in the track name slot. I have removed all sort by info, album artist info, track numbers, disc numbers, and unchecked the Compilation option on every single of these tracks. In iTunes, the songs are listed under the proper artist and album, and the songs are all alphabetical from A to Z.
    Here's where the the problem comes in. When I select the entire list of songs and send them to my iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.4, they sync fine. However, upon browsing the songs, the first half (about 100 songs) are listed as being track 1. The next 20 or so tracks are listed as track 2. The next 20 or so tracks are listed as track 3. This continues until the bottom of the list, where the last 8 songs are listed as 13, 13, 15, 16, 16, 18, 19, 22. Within each set of shared track numbers (for example, track 1, so 100 songs), the tracks are listed alphabetically. Then when I hit the set of songs listed as track 2, the alphabetizing resets again, and so on and so forth. I can't figure out why this is, other than that some sort of data is still contained within the song files that the Music app picks up and interprets. I shouldn't have to manually assign each of the 212 tracks its own listing, such as 1/212, 2/212, etc. because that would take forever and I'd need to re-edit half the tracks when I added new music to the iTunes album. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?; because I'm totally bamboozled as to where these faux track numbers are coming from.

    Ok, I "sorta" figured it out. I was having trouble even sorting the songs into separate albums like iTunes A B C, iTunes D E F, etc. because Music still placed random track numbers onto the songs. So, I went back to my original plan which was to have one album and artist called iTunes, and I forced all tracks to be track 1 of 1, and disc 1 of 1. That seems to have fixed the issue and forced Music to put them in alphabetical order. I'm still unsure as to why Music won't just alphabetize the tracks as they are in iTunes.

  • Need FedEx Tracking Numbers for Testing...

    Hi Folks,
    I'm debugging a FedEx tracking utility, but I need a number
    of tracking numbers (preferably a mix of shipping methods, etc) to
    debug. Unfortunately, FedEx support can't provide any, and our
    company has a very limited number (we're tracking inbound orders,
    not outbound).
    If anybody has any FedEx tracking numbers they would be
    willing to share, I would greatly appreciate it! FedEx keeps the
    tracking numbers live for 12 months, so age should not be an issue.
    If you'd prefer an anonomous posting, please just send me

    Tracking number is specified on delivery_detail_id. You can use following API to update the tracking number. Define a cursor that will fetch the tracking number from staging or intermediate table and pass the following details:
    FOR cur_rec IN cur LOOP
    l_changed_attributes (l_rec_count).delivery_detail_id := cur_rec.delivery_detail_id;
    l_changed_attributes (l_rec_count).shipped_quantity := cur_rec.picked_quantity;
    l_changed_attributes (l_rec_count).tracking_number :=
    cur_rec.tracking_number;
    l_rec_count := l_rec_count + 1;
    END LOOP;

  • CD only lists as track numbers

    Why do the cd's I make with an eclectic playlist show up as track numbers on other computers (and mine as well) and when i receive other people's cds they show up as track numbers also?   Is there a way to make sure your song lists stay with the cd?  I have had occasional cds show the original song lists.
    I collect movie quotes.  I title the quotes and genre them, etc, put them on a back up cd, but if i go to import them again, just comes out as track numbers....why doesn't the original info stay with them.....i realize they will not be in iTunes database when it reads them, but isn't there a backup set up to read those which are not in the iTunes system?

    If these are the equivalent of 'mix tapes' (i.e. one-offs) then the Gracenote Database won't have the track information. It's never been held as part of an audio CD - an oversight when the things were first invented? Perhaps in 1982 no-one foresaw the rise of the digital era!
    You could manually put in the data yourself, which not only would be remembered by iTunes in future, but you could also upload it to the Gracenote Database which would mean if anyone else got a copy of that exact mix, they could get the track names.

  • ITunes dropping the 'of' part of track numbers

    I have been experiencing this issue with iTunes since day dot.
    I always format my track numbers so they are displayed as track number 'XX of XX' when adding albums to help keep track of the number of tracks contained within each album.
    However occasionally, iTunes will completely drop the 'of XX' part of the track number causing me to have to fill it in again. What causes this and how do I avoid it?

    Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the corrupt tracks from your iTunes library, close and then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
    While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked.
    If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Trouble with Track Numbers

    Hey all! First off, I am running a Windows XP machine.
    I think iTunes is a great music organization tool, but the biggest gripe that I've always had with it is editing track numbers.
    What I like to do is import customized music folders and assign each file a track number. Now, let's say I skip a number by mistake (i.e. 11, 13, 14), or I want to add another track later into the middle of the album. The only way I know how to fix this is to change each track number manually, which can get really tedious with albums consisting of over 100 songs.
    So, is there an easier way to do this? For instance, is there a way to change one track number and have the others below it increase/decrease by one?

    This was a very useful tool, so thanks for the link!
    The Auto-Numbering wizard does work, but not exactly in the way I want. From what I could tell, you can only sort your tracks by Title, Artist, Filename, etc., and then using the wizard as opposed to clicking and dragging your files to the order that you want and using it that way.
    I tried looking around for other tools that would do a click-and-drag option like that after you gave me that link, but no such luck.
    Any other easy solutions?

  • Anyone in Midwest receive tracking numbers?

    I live in Kansas, ordered by 2:30am local time after all the same trouble getting through as everyone else.  My delivery date was Sept 19th and then went to unavailable just like everyone else.  It seems like a lot of people on both coasts are getting tracking numbers.  Has anyone with a "M" location number get a tracking number or card charged?

    I'm in Michigan with a N location code. I ordered at 3:04 am EST, but I didn't get my confirmation email until 5:56 am EST. My email had a deliver by date of 9/19. I have no tracking status or document  update since I received the original confirmation. I'm really hopeful, but I still haven't heard anything. I've talked to several reps, but they're just as clueless. I was considering switching providers after this ordeal; but from what I've heard all of the major carriers are having similar issues. I've read horror stories from AT&T customers that have waited hours and haven't even been able to get a live person on the phone. I agree with all of you this has been a terrible experience but at least I have been able to talk to real people. I even had a customer service rep that stayed on the phone with me for as long as 3 hours while my call was bounced around. My point is, it could be worse.

  • I used the disc and track numbers, but it won't show on my iPod as separate CDs?

    Hi,
    I used the disc and track numbers of get info in iTunes, and I would like to have my CDs separate like if they are 3 CDs on my iPod Classic rather then having a big long list of songs, but after using the disc and track numbers, I still don't see on my iPod which one is CD1, and etc. I took a screenshot of my iTunes. How could I have my CDs separate just like the originals?
