Address book contacts on iPhone , not changing???

Please help! On the new iphone it is difficult to get people's phone numbers, so I rearranged all of my contact information into nice, streamlined groups. The problem is the contacts on my iphone (and I've restored it), stay the same as before. I want the new contact groups to be displayed and nothing more.
Any tips would be appreciated.

If you want your address book from your computer to update your iPhone's address book after initial download from activation you have to go into the iTunes with the iPhone connected. Click on the iPhone in the left hand menu and go to the tab that about the contacts. Go to the advanced settings. There should be a box to check that says something about using the computer's address book for update. I think that the default otherwise is to use changes to your phone's address book to update the computer's address book. I hope that helps.

  • Address Book Contact Photos will not sync over to iPhone 2G

So here is the deal. I just bought a new 21.5" iMac w/ Snow Leopard. I had a iMac G5 with Leopard previously and rather than using migration assistant, i just copied over the applicable folders and files (per my research) so that my contacts would be present on the new computer. Everything seems fine except the contact photos will not sync over to my iPhone. Has anyone run across this? Help is greatly appreciated!
    Cheers

  • Address Book/Contacts/Google/iPhone Sync = Tons of Duplicates?

Hi, folks - I'm syncing my contacts with Google, using the following:
    1. iPhone: Google Sync for Calendars & Contacts using Microsoft Exchange
    2. Macbook: Address Book also syncing to Google under Preferences.
This setup is creating tons of duplicate contacts each day. It's usually the same handful of contacts that get duplicated dozens and dozens of times throughout the day, bloating my few hundred contacts into thousands of entries.
I'm guessing that the set-up below is creating some kind of infinite loop for certain items, and doubles them every time it tries to sync. But I can't find any common characteristics for the items that keep duplicating.
I'm sure the easiest fix would be to turn off option 2, and stop trying to keep my Macbook's local contact list in sync. But that's my way of "backing up" incase my Google account ever gets hosed for any reason.
    Does anybody know:
    1. How I can fix my set-up above to stop the dupe-loop, OR
    2. How to troubleshoot each contact that's duping, fix fields/data etc OR
    3. A better way to auto-backup Google so I don't have to use Option 2 at all?
    Thanks!
    Michael

    Have the same problem.
Today, as usual did a sync and was very pleased to find that almost all my contacts on IPhone were duplicated. Weird, not all of them.
The problem is that I have to double check every contact, because the duplication was a bit...weird also. Not all duplicates are the same. One might contain all info about a contact and another one might have only one phone number.
So, this is a BIG problem.
I tried deleting all contacts from my Outlook database and sync.
Oh, the joy of having all your IPhone contacts DELETED without even a warning.
Restored a backup and got all my Contacts back, duplicated of course.
Believe me, I am DEAD AFRAID of using ITunes again. Maybe for the ones that did the programing of it might have some logic, but for me, as well as for many Apple customers with the same problem (and more) I think NOT.
This piece of software must have been written on some crazy after party weekend, because I cannot understand how such a big name like Apple can release such a badly written application.
Do we have an alternative to ITunes?
I am using it for backing up my contacts, because I tend to loose my phone all the time
I would use it for purchasing some interesting software from the store, but, most of the software I like...are not in my country's store :)) (Google Earth, The Discovery software, etc). Way to go!
I do remember Nokia and their little application. So easy to do anything. Apple, weak up!!!

  • Sync Subset of Address Book Contacts with iPhone?

Is there a way to limit the contacts in Address Book which are sync'd with the iPhone? My copy of Address Book has many contacts which are from long ago. I like to keep them around for the occasion I need to reach someone. But, I don't need them cluttering up the list of people I need to reach promptly in my iPhone.
    Thanks!

The simplest way to do that would be to create a group in Contacts that has just the ones you want and only sync that group to your iPhone.

  • Address Book Contacts on Nano not fully synching

iTunes 7.6.2 and Address Book 4.1 on 10.5.3
No matter what I do, when I try to sync my Contacts from a stable Address Book to my 4 GB (plenty of space) Nano, it seems to skip certain contacts.
I've taken them out of AB and re-entered. But they will not synch.
    Any ideas, please?

Just discovered something - I think.
It appears as though the most recent contact entered always gets dropped off and missed at synch time.
    Is this a know issue?

  • Address book contacts lost & will not re-sync after recent update

I updated my iphone to the latest software version , in doing so i lost all my contacts on the phone ( I use Entourage) & now when I sync the contacts are not sync'ing to the iphone. I have followed the instructed measures of checking the appropriate boxes in sync/re-sync preferences but no results. I have restored phone in i-tunes, even in the advanced setting tried to "replace information on phone" by checking contacts, with no results.

  • Can iPhone 4 contacts overwrite MacBook Address Book contacts?

Can someone please help me, perhaps Allan Sampson? My problem is that I somehow have >2,000 duplicate contacts in my MacBook's Address Book. Though I do backups, I've added dozens of new contacts to my iPhone where, so far, I do not have any duplicates. Basically, I need to somehow, if possible, overwrite all of my desktop contacts with the contacts from my iPhone. I've searched in the Apple Discussions for 2 hours and can't find an answer to this. The closest Google hit I found was http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2111565 but it did not work for me.
    Some background:
    - OS X 10.6.6
    - iTunes ver 10.1.2
    - iPhone OS 4.2.1
    - I am syncing iPhone with MobileMe account
    - iTunes is also syncing contacts with MobileMe
    - Under iPhone "Info" tab in iTunes, it is NOT set to Sync Address Book Contacts
    - This is not the first time I am syncing.
    - I called Apple Support. Zero help.
    - I can't use the Address Book "Look for Duplicates..." feature because I have a few dozen contacts that it will combine that I need to keep separate.
Could anyone possibly help me with this? My only other option is to manually delete >2,000 duplicate contacts...that would take me several months.
    Thank you!

I tried this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1472736 , specifically Allan Sampson's suggestion (below), but it did not work either.
"The sync process for contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks with an iPhone is bidirectional with the supported application on your computer.
Enter at least one contact in the Address Book application and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac before syncing. Pay attention to any message provided when syncing such as merging data. If you are unsure about any such message provided, cancel the sync until you are sure."

  • Syncing Mac Address Book to multiple iPhone users?

After updating my iMac to Mavericks I'm unable to sync my Address Book contacts to iPhones via USB sync.
Our usage model is that we have one set of Address Book contacts on a Mac for everyone at home (easier to maintain) and then we create unique Address Groups for each family member. In the past we used the Info tab in iTunes to specify which address group should sync with which iPhone. It worked well.
With the update to Mavericks the Info tab is gone. Apple wants users to sync their contacts via iCloud.
Security concerns notwithstanding, I don't know how to do it. How can a family of iPhone users, each with a different Apple and iCloud ID, sync to the same Address Book?
    Thanks

Thank you to Gemariah for the suggestion that I should seek to import Contact details via Yahoo but to be honest whilst that may be indeed a valid work-around it is nothing if not clunky.
I have discovered that the PocketMac software is nothing to do with RIM although it is directly linked off their web-page: PocketMac do not appear to offer any real support and conversation with my network provider [ Vodaphone ] suggests that they regard the PocketMac software as little short of useless and a major source of problems.
Certainly in my experience, it is useless: it has duplicated some entries and will not allow the additional entries to be deleted. Clearly one can only hope that the RIM software which they are advertising for release in September will solve the problem but given that there is no way in which one can talk directly to RIM other than via a chargeable conversation I wonder whatb the chances are of their version being any better. I just wish that I could treat my clients in such an arrogant manner and still make money!
I would suggest that unless you want to spend time beating your head against a brick wall, do not use PocketMac software. It is a rubbish product, with support to match.

Relax. Your address book database is corrupted.
If you are syncing your Contacts with MobileMe or something else, disable it for now.
Backup your address book by going to File>Export>Address Book Archive.
    Quit Address Book.
Open your Library by holding down the Option (alt) key while selecting the Go menu in Finder. Select Library. Navigate into your Application Support/AddressBook folder and delete the addressbook-v22.abcddb file.
Open Address Book. It will recreate the database from the raw data.
See how that works. If it is ok, then reenable syncing and see how that works.

  • Iphone sync and 300 lost address book contacts

Help. I'm sick about this. Everything has been going fine with my iphone until tonight. After I synced tonight, all 300 of my address book contacts disappeared on my phone AND on my computer. Even my backup hard drive doesn't show any contact information, only an address book icon which has no information when opened. Apple iphone tech support was unable to help me. Please I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight because of this. Can anyone out there help me get my contact information back?
    Thank you.
    Alden Burlington

    Joel,
The Backup application they are referring to is the Backup application that comes with .Mac.
It does incremental backups. It doesn't replace the previous days backup. You can go to your backup location, and choose the day you want to restore from.
There is even a preconfigured plan for personal data and settings daily to iDisk that backs up iCal, Address Book, etc.
I would also recomend going into iSync's preferences and setting it to prompt you if more than 5% of your contacts or data will be changed. This is the default for iSync, but can be changed to not warn, or only warn when 25%, 50%, etc will be changed. If it is on the default you will get a message if information will be lost.
Also in some situations, reseting sync history before another sync, and then syncing again, may bring back some of the contacts.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Is it possible to keep Contact List and Address Book seperate on iPhone?

I just made the switch today- big time – from Motorola to iPhone, and from PC to iMac, plus a Macbook Air as well for travel. Thanks to iphone and Mac forums I have been able to resolve most newbie issues and have exported my data, files and contacts without problem.
However there is one issue I have not been able to resolve or clarify:
    - My old phone contact list has now been transferred my new iPhone, consisting of about 100 phone numbers which I use regularly.
    - Address Book in my new iMac contains about 800 contacts including phone numbers, clients, etc, as well as personal bank account numbers, and other confidential data in the “Notes” field, which I need to refer to only occasionally.
But I understand that if I sync my iPhone with my Mac, it will merge my Address Book contacts on Mac, with the phone contacts on my iPhone Contact list, into one list. Is this true? Is it not possible to maintain 2 separate Apps on my iPhone, i.e
    1. The iPhone Contact list for frequently used telephone contacts, and
    2. The Mac Address Book with more detailed notes and account numbers, which I only need to refer to occasionally?
    3. If this is possible, can I configure it so that a password is required each time the Address Book on iPhone is accessed? (I realise I can configure the iphone to require a pin when turned on), but I would like a password to access the Address App because of the confidential data. Previously I had all this data contained on a Palm Zire 72 handheld and its PC Desktop counterpart, where a password was required to access.
From what I’ve read on the forums, it will be very cumbersome to have a phone contact list with 1000 names on it, so I want to keep phone contacts simple with phone numbers only. (I realise I can set up Group folders in Address Book, but this is not what I need). I'm also concerned about having confidential information on my iPhone which can be accessed without a password for that particular application. I intend to get MobileMe but that also does not address the issue of keeping Telephone Contacts seperate from Address Book on iPhone.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Speculating:
if, as already suggested, you use the Groups function to sync only the 100 contact list numbers, then how to get the expanded Address Book?
I've not used it myself, but Bento might be worth looking into--Bento on the Mac pulls your Address Book data (I'm pretty sure) and syncs to Bento iPhone.
I don't recall hearing about any alternate phone books, but since pretty much any program on the Mac can hook into the Address Book, you might look at the more powerful note organizers to see if any of them pull that data?
You might have a problem getting notes added on the phone back into Address Book on the Mac, though.
I actually right now keep my main address book in MS Entourage (similar to Outlook), and only use the Mac Address Book to sync to the iPhone. I could sync Entourage to Address Book, but I don't--haven't sorted out the data yet, and I don't really need all the same numbers in both places.
If that sounds possible, you might look at Mark/Space and Missing Sync for iPhone---something like keeping all 800 contacts in Entourage, and syncing them all, but moving the confidential portion of each contact into Entourage Notes and syncing those via Missing Sync, perhaps might work. (I think you can link a contact to a note in Entourage)
An interesting problem. You might also send feedback to Apple:
    http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
as this is really not a usage scenario they've planned for. They probably don't care, though--doesn't seem all that common.

  • Address Book contacts not showing up in Mail

I'm unable to access my address book contacts from Mail.  The wheel on the right side of the recipient box spins but never finds the contact or group I'm searching.  Can anyone help?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Once Mac address book synched from iphone and contacts deleted they won't resynch back

I have a problem and have spent hours researching but to no avail
    1. I got a new iphone 4S and put in my mail info from yahoo, gmail and low and behold I had a contact list now in my phone. I thought, "I just love Apple!"
    2. I spent all afternoon on my iphone updating my contact list with contact photos, birthdays and all the stuff I never put in on my email program or my MacPro Leopard mac addressbook.
    3. With trepidation, I synched via usb with itunes my contacts and suddenly I had 3 (or more versions of my contacts on every site or device).  To see what was going on (as I wasn't sure if my mac would erase iphone contacts or add to them etc) I tried putting a test contact "iphone test" on my phone, yahoo test on my yahoo account, and mac test contact on my laptop address book, and gmail test in my gmail's contacts, and synched again.... For the most part every test contact showed up everywhere (not yahoo test in gmail's account mind you)
    4. GREAT I thought. I will just DELETE the contacts in the mac address book, yahoo, gmail accounts, fix my iphone duplicate contacts so I have one perfect set on the iphone and resynch and I should have my iphone contacts filling in all the right places (yahoo, gmail, and mac address book from the iphone) and they will all now be identical... SO WRONG!
    5. None of the prior contacts would sync. Only new contacts will synch (ones that were never before synched, ie, a new iphone test contact WILL show up in my Mac address book but the other 100 won't (apparently the computer knows they were already synced or something.)
I am now left with all my contacts on my phone and none in my computer! I have synched in itunes about 10 times with "contacts" checked trying different settings for yahoo, gmail but no source will retake my iphone contacts now that it was synced and the mac address book deleted...
    Can anyone help???

Thanks for your timely response. I really appreciate the heads up on the My Contacts Backup App since when you have gone from 4 copies of contacts to one you are starting to feel insecure...
Unfortunately, after following this to a "T" (2x) no luck... The mac address book was empty to begin with so I added three new contacts, synched  and then started from there...
I unchecked the sync box and synched. Deleted 2 of the 3 contacts and checked the "sync contacts"--all contacts (I have no groups). It synched without prompting me for a merge and the new single contact did not show up in the iphone... bummer. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
SORRY, I ACCIDENTALLY GAVE MYSELF HELPFUL POINTS AND THEY WERE FOR RANDERS4....

  • I have an iPhone 3g and it won't sync address book contacts.

I have an iPhone 3g and it won't sync address book contacts. My iPad does it via the cloud but now my iPhone won't do it. Please help.

Have you tried a "hard reset"? If so, I would take the phone to an Apple store. If not,
    1. Make sure the phone is OFF
    2. Hold the HOME button and then press the power button and HOLD IT.
    3. Hold both buttons until the phone comes ON, goes OFF and come ON again (about 45 seconds)
    4. Re-sync with iTunes.
    Hope this helps.
