Address book data but missing Address Book application

This is strange but after upgrading to Snow Leopard, I seem to be missing my Address Book application. I can see my address book data but I cannot launch the Address Book application.
I have my contacts synced with Mobile Me & I'm not sure where the app went. I can still sync but just can't open up the Address Book app (obviously)
I am not sure how to get my Address Book app back....any suggestions?

you don't need Pacifists for this one. insert the snow leopard DVD, open it in finder and double-click on optional installs->optional installs.mpkg. follow the instructions and choose to install Address Book. then reinstall 10.6.2 combo update to bring AB to its current version.

  • ADDRESS BOOK-- DATA/ CONTENTS MISSING---HELP!!!!!!! ???/

I tried the .sarseimage file thing that I read about on another post--and can not find that either. My address book is gone!!!!.. The application is sill there and working, but no previous DATA !!!! I looked in the trash and it's not there and the trash has not been emptied in a while so I don't think another co-worker messed up and trashed it. That data HAS TO BE IN THER SOMEWHERE !!!--If the Feds were looking they find it some how!!!!
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

OK, I put this in another post, but here goes again, since maybe you won't find it. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook and duplicate the file AddressBook.data.previous. Dump the AddressBook.data file, rename the copy to that, and you should have everything back.

  • Adobe PS E3 classroom in a book support CD missing from book

Hi, I purchased the above text in very good 'used' condition from Fishpond.com.au.  Unfortunately when received the support CD was missing from the back of the book.  I have contacted Fishpond who don't seem to be having any luck in finding the CD.  I was wondering if I am able to download the support files required to complete the lessons from Adobe.  Failing that I will need to send the book back and request a refund unfortunately.  The ISBN of the book is 0-321-27080-0.  If someone has the same book and is willing to send me the files that wold also be greatly appreciated.  I have my payment receipt to show purchase if required.
Your assistance and comments would be appreciated.
    Regards

Here are the instructions: It is the second to last part of lesson 8.
Adding a vector mask to a Smart Object
The hole in each O of the title gets a star cut out of it and you can see the background.
    1.  Select title layer and click the Add Layer Mask button
    2.  Select the Polygon tool.  The options used earlier should still be in effect (not true - the create new shape layer is now selected)
It says to refer back to an earlier part of the lesson where the settings were entered for a different part of the picture (subtracting shapes from a
shape layer) But my settings match except for the create new shape layer option that won't change.
    3.  Set Black as the foreground color
    4.  Click in the center of the 'O' in Toyz and drag the cursor outward.
    5.  Repeat on the small 'O'.

  • IPhone is "Up-to-date" but missing key new 3.1 features

    Sooo wth?
iTunes and my iPhone says that its up to date with the latest 3.1 software but there's none of the key new features, like MMS. iTunes is most up to date and when i click "check for update" on my iphone, it says its up-to-date.
does anyone know what the problem is?

Depending on your provider, MMS might not be supported at this time.
    see this page: http://www.apple.com/iphone/how-to/#messages.sending-and-receiving-messages
Turn MMS messaging on or off:
In Settings, tap Messages, then tap MMS Messaging to turn it on or off. You may want to turn MMS >Messaging off, for example, to prevent sending or receiving attachments when fees apply.
NOTE: The MMS Messaging setting doesn’t appear if MMS isn’t supported by your carrier.

On iMessage on the Mac, I'm able to see the latest messages sent to any contacts listed. However, all of my contacts are not listed. What I also noticed is that they're all contacts I added recently.

  • How do I Export Address Book data?

Is there anyway to insert Address Book data into other (non-Apple) applications, e.g. Word?
I want to send out some letters and I would like each letter to have the recipiants address at the top of the letter. Even if I could export the data to Excel first would be OK but I only seem to be able to export vCards from Address Book and Excel (nor Word) can read them?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Yink,
you can use some third-party applications to export Address Book data as plain text files (e.g., csv) which you should then be able to import without any problems in Excel and the like.
    Some options are:
    • Export Addresses from Mail Scripts

    • Address Book Exporter

  • Missing apps in Applications Folder

I recently installed Yosemite on a clean hard drive.  I reinstalled all my purchased apps from the app store.  All the apps appear in Launchpad but several don't show up in the Finder applications folder.  Aperture, iPhoto, Numbers, Pages and Photoshop Elements are present in Launchpad but missing from the applications folder. Since they are not in the applications folder I can't include them in stacks of similar programs and launch them from the dock.  I have to launch from Launchpad and they all launch just fine.  This isn't a real big deal but it's inconvenient.  Any ideas why the apps aren't listed in the applications folder?
I am running a 2.8 GHz eight core 2008 Mac Pro with 6 GB memory and 8 TB storage.

    Hi paranomasian
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the programs are install but are not in the Application folder. I would recommend that you read this article, you may be able to find the programs this way and add them to the dock.

  • Missing Address Book Folder in Application Support

I've been having problems with my Address Book for a long time, now. Ever since my friend accidentally synced his iPhone with my computer and merged all our contacts. I had gone in and deleted the contacts, but the program has been buggy. As it stands, there are 0 Cards in my Address Book.
I loaded the BETA for Face Time for Mac to see how it worked, knowing that I had nothing in my Address Book. Or so I thought. The BETA application pulled names from way back when my friend had all his contacts on my computer, and my old ones, but they aren't around!!
I started looking around for what could be wrong, and realised the folder for Address Book in the Application Support folder is missing (i.e. ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book/)... What do I do?
    Please help.

Thanks for the "helpful" star feedback.

Is there an option for us non-Time Machine users?
I am getting an external hard-drive this winter, but I don't have one yet. So a solution other than that is ideal.
    (1) Instead of Time Machine, you could restore your contacts from other backups you use. Moreover, there is no requirement for the backup files to be on a hard drive.
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
Even if you do not backup your entire startup disk, you will want backups of any important, expensive, or irreplaceable files plus those shown in this Apple article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8771.html
    (2) If you have no backup, the only way I know to get your Address Book contact info back is to recreate it.
As soon as you re-enter your Address Book info, use the Address Book > File > Export... > Address Book Archive... menu command to create an archive.
The archive can be used to restore your data should the problem occur again. Rather than recreating the entire Address Book database, you can restore the archive and will then need to recreate only the changes since the archive was created.
Typical Address Book archives are only a few megabytes, so, in addition to keeping a copy in your Documents folder, you can save an extra copy on another computer, writable CD or DVD, or even Flash (jump) drive. To safeguard against loss due to hard disk crash, it is vital that you keep your principal backup/archive somewhere other than your startup disk. I think you can see that more than one copy on more than one media is a good idea.
I am slow on the keyboard, so I recreate my archive monthly in addition to Time Machine and the other backups I keep.

  • Address book data in application support folder

I need to use two sets of addresses/phones in my address book to sync with two different mobile phones.
When using tiger I used to copy the contents of the (user folder)/library/application support/AddressBook folder and kept it as a backup of each set.
I now upgraded to leopard and deleted the contents of the folder and replaced it with the other set, however the address book appears completely blank. I then replaced the contents of the folder with the original set of files, but the address book appears black again.
I tried to delete the preferences of the address book application, but had no success with that either.
Any ideas on how to recover my "lost" data?

Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
    Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.

  • How can I access Address Book data from an older version of the application to transfer it to a newer version of Mac OS running on a second hard drive on the same MDD G4?

I installed a hard drive from one PowerPC Dual 1.25 GHz MDD into another one with an older version of the OS X.  all my Address Book data are on the older hard drive, from which I now boot the computer.  When I launch Address Book as an app on the hard drive with the newer version of the OS, I get an error message that says I cannot run the version of Address Book from the older hard drive on the newer OS.  How can I access the data on the older hard drive version of the Address Book app so that I can transfer it to the newer version of the app on the boot drive?  The "Import" functionality will not work. I will be grateful for any help I can get.  I would also like to uninstall the older version of OS X from the older hard drive.

Boot from the older version of OSX, then in AB use the File>Export>Export vCard after selecting all in AB.
Then boot from the new OSx & use the new AB to import that VCF file.

  • How can I delete my address book data

Running Lion. I've read in several post that the data file is in home folder/library/application support/AddressBook.
To test this I set up a temporary user account, added a few contacts to the address book, quit the application, deleted the entire AddressBook folder and contents in home folder/library/application support/AddressBook, re-launched Address Book and the new contacts I just created are still there.
I quit address book, deleted this same folder and contents again, this time also deleted all address book preference files in library/preferences, re-launched address book and the new contacts are still there.
Anyone know where the data file is really kept? In a brand new user account there aren't many files in home folder/library so it shouldn't be too hard to find but I sure can't seem to.
    Any help would be appreciated.
PS. For those who want to know "why". I believe my daughter's Mac has a corrupt address book data file so I want to start over "fresh" but can't seem to locate where the true data file is.
    Thanks,

"Perhaps for recovery or  sync, don't know"
This was just a possible but the sync part of it really isn't possible in this case. In setting up a new temporary account on my Mac it would be an account without an iCloud or MobilMe account so there would be no syncing involved.
Address Book data for each user's account will be stored only within that users account. The fake contacts I've created in the temporary user account certainly don't show up in any other account.
Your behaviour "if I delete the files mentioned, there is absolutely nothing left." is exactly what I would expect. Just can't figure out (yet) what's going on, on my Mac because this expected behaviour is not happening.

  • How can I get my address book data back?

After upgrading to OS6, my address book has gone from almost a thousand entries to being totally empty.
This is a *very* big deal for me bc I have no address book application on my PC.
I had always assumed that if iTunes were backing up my iPod, that I would be able to restore from those backups, but now I cannot figure out how to tell iTunes to restore from a backup.   I've got a backup... just cannot restore from it.
There's got to be a way.... and I'm probably looking right at it and not seeing it.

It has been a very long time since I used 10.1.5 but Address Book data is not stored in a .plist file.
The Address Book data should be located in an Addresses folder at Home > Library > Addresses.
Locate this folder and with the Address Book application quit, move it back to the proper location.
